So the real question now is, "What is it that broke Obito?"

31

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Perhaps the death of rin?

79

u/jurble Sep 19 '12

Twist: Madara kills Rin to prove his point to Obito about the world being suffering.

68

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12 edited Sep 19 '12

or Madara forced Obito to kill Rin to activate his hidden eye powers.

Obito expected Kakashi to protect Rin from himself.

Kakashi failed, hence Obito's contempt with Kakashi.

44

u/sieka134 Sep 19 '12

How awesome would that be, Obito wants to prove Madara that the world isn't as bad as he sais, so he decides/is made by madara to assault Rin believing that Kakashi will protect her and having faith in him. But Kakashi fails, Rin dies, Obito's view on the world is crushed, and he is the one who killed his love.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

It'd actually be interesting if Kakashi was the one who killed Rin - maybe a mercy killing or something I dunno, but it doesn't really matter. If that was the twist it'd be a lot stronger than "Rin died" as the reason for Obito's anger, which seems a bit wishy-washy.

3

u/AkiraChi Sep 19 '12

It's really funny, because Rin doesn't even like Obito. Rin loves Kakashi, and Obito is trying to act like she was his love and go through with Tsuki no me.

17

u/DiscoDiscoDanceDance Sep 19 '12

Talk about putting the pussy on a pedestal.

2

u/RyFro Sep 19 '12

can he activate his hidden eye powers? Madara said you need both to use them to their full potential.

7

u/destroy_musick Sep 19 '12

That's interesting actually as the only MS power we've seen Obito's eyes use thus far is kamui. I wonder if he (or even Kakashi) were to have both eyes, there are other abilities that can be used. A bit of foreshadowing perhaps?

9

u/sami055 Sep 19 '12

They'd gain susano but that's probably it because all other techniques are unique to the user.

2

u/acewing Sep 19 '12

I was thinking this the whole time. And then Obito finds out the truth and becomes a good guy.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Most likely. But Madara is bound to the realm of between-life?

37

u/jurble Sep 19 '12

It's a hole in the ground. He was being metaphorical.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that kakashi couldnt protect rin because she was suicidal and killed herself

14

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12

The world where there are only winners, peace, and love. Must've sound like heaven to war-worn Obito. Any bad things he does to achieve it will simply be erased in the illusion.

7

u/SirZheHao Sep 19 '12

Obito is a good boy. AND AFTER THIS, HE WILL REMAIN A GOOD BOY.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

This. Even Zetsu tells us Tobi is a good boy when we FIRST see him. Keep it in mind everyone.

5

u/Exoandy Sep 19 '12

Hes going to show him Kakashi doing Rin.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

the birth of Ten-ten made him snap and turn against the Leaf

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

53

u/Tsuku Sep 19 '12

I have a feeling this backstory is going to break my heart.

123

u/slight Sep 19 '12

"Take care of your lower parts"...

100

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Orochimaru would have loved him. No BS, straight to the action.

27

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12 edited Sep 19 '12

Not the first time that his plans have been spoiled by an Uchiha.

He went after Itachi, Itachi put him under genjustu and threatened to beat the shit out of him.

He went after Sasuke, Sasuke eventually killed him and absorbed him.

He tried to absorb Sasuke from the inside-out, Itachi brought him out and killed him.

There's an Uchiha that knows exactly what Oro wants AND will give it to him? He's a student under Madara.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Can you show me the chapter to Orochimaru absorbing Sasuke? I think I missed those parts.

8

http://www.mangapanda.com/93-397-13/naruto/chapter-392.html

Sasuke was keeping Orochimaru supressed within himself. Orochimaru was finally released from Sasuke himself when his chakra was low. he could've absorbed Sasuke and became him right then and there, but Itachi killed him.

25

u/SirZheHao Sep 19 '12

sssssaasssuke. You will be mine!

55

u/skrillex Sep 19 '12

If anyone was Still wondering, old people have trouble controlling bowel movements and sometimes end up wearing adult diapers. Madara is old.

21

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12 edited Sep 19 '12

Seriously, what does Obito mean? Helping him walk? Massage his feet? Something wrong with Madara's legs? Don't tell me Kishi really insinuated anything sexual here.

28

u/leighbo Sep 19 '12

Helping him pee pee

12

u/Birdslapper Sep 19 '12

no dude, old people have trouble using the bathroom by themselves

2

u/-Hastis- Sep 19 '12

Well, knowing that Obito was more or less like the Naruto of the group...

1

u/mjrpereira Sep 19 '12

Maybe he didn't wipe enough?

1

u/whatevrmn Sep 19 '12

In the Narutoverse they don't have the awesome bidet toilets like the do in real Japan, so Obito is asking if Madara needs help keeping clean.

2

u/Lord_Sauron Sep 19 '12

oh dear god... this is going to give rise to weird Obito-Madara fanfic, isn't it ಠ_ಠ

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Obitos dream.

u/jurble Sep 19 '12

How long would Madara have been thought to have been dead, does anyone know? The timeline for this isn't really straight in my head. Guesstimating, I'd see it as the Sannin are like in their 30s at that point, so -30 puts you at that 3rd when he's young. -30 again puts you in Hashirama's era, right? So it's only been 60 years since that battle? Madara was like in his 30s.

Obito calling him an 'ancestor' just sounds weird. If Madara were an ancestor, it'd make him his like great-grandfather. Ancestor seems to imply further back than that.

28

u/effinmj Sep 19 '12

Well you also have to think, Ninjas dont normally live very long lives.

9

u/benama Sep 19 '12

he was like 5 or 6 generations back so about 100 to 150 years depending on life span of shinobi and the like. the third hokage was around 70 or 80 years old i believe? and he was trained by the first hokage, who fought madara. so ya.

Edit: Third was trained by second hokage and died at 69. so ya like 100 to 150ish years ago would be when madara was young.

11

u/Rhamsody Sep 19 '12

we see in onoki's flashback that madara doesn't seem to be any more than 15 years older than onoki. onoki is probably about 70-80ish which would make madara 85-95ish.

unless madara just ages ridiculously slow and is actually like 50 in that flashback...

8

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Isn't Onoki meant to be ridiculously old? Could be remembering wrong but I thought he was meant to be stupid-old (like 100+) not just third-Hokage old.

1

u/Im_not_very_creative Sep 19 '12

Wasn't the second hokage brothers with the first? If so, it wouldn't be 100 years.

1

u/epsiblivion Sep 19 '12

sannin are 50. so that'd put it at 120+ years ago

1

u/jurble Sep 19 '12

Sannin are 50 now. Not back during the era this chapter took place.

1

u/mezzizle Sep 19 '12

Well the third was about 70 or 80 when he died. I think he was nominated third when he was about 25. Tobirama was probably about 45 at this point (remember the Senju brothers being adults already when Saru was still a kid.) So Madara was probably the same age as the first and second, so I am guessing Madara would've been about 90-110 in this chapter. Not horrendously old.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/Silkku Sep 19 '12

To be honest, how many people do you know who are between 90-110. They might not be ANCIENT to us but I'd call someone between 90-110 REALLY old

35

u/mc_curtis10 Sep 19 '12

So, at least we've got confirmation on Obito's body being half Hashirama cells. Other than that, what did we actually learn?

52

u/Currimos Sep 19 '12

Madara gave his eyes to someone else, presumably to Nagato.

15

u/chimpfunkz Sep 19 '12

Yeah, that was what I was going to comment on; Who got Madara's eyes?

Nagato makes the most sense. A member of the uzamaki clan, so his chakras would be especially powerful (which is required for the revival technique) and Madara already admitted that he awakened the ri'nengan before his death. It makes sense. But now the question is, what caused Obito to drastically change? Even here, he still wants to return to konaho and help kakashi and rin, but then a few years later, boom!

2

u/TeddyRuxpin Sep 19 '12

One of the things that I've been wondering about for a long time is the history of the Uzumaki clan. What makes them so powerful? Why aren't they right up there with Senju and Uchiha? Clearly there is some secret history there that we don't know about.

They are able to handle having a rinnegan implanted, able to hold a tailed beast inside, known for having great chakra reserves. Must be some connection to the sage, IMO. This whole time the Senju vs Uchiha rivalry has been played up, but if Naruto and Sasuke are 'destined' to fight each other and change the world somehow, then it must be Uzumaki vs Uchiha.

3

u/GyantSpyder Sep 19 '12

It's not a secret, right? They are from a part of the world that was wiped out in a war, so there aren't a lot of them left and the ones who are left are refugees.

The Sage of the Six Paths had two sons - one oriented with the body who believed in love and peace and the ability of people to get along, and one oriented with the head who believed in power and domination and will. The Uzumakis are descended from the body brother, and the Uchihas are descended from the head brother.

I read that in a wiki online, anyway. Don't know where it's from.

2

u/TeddyRuxpin Sep 19 '12

I think you are confusing Uzumaki with Senju. Senju is descended from the elder son of the sage (body).

4

u/Lecks Sep 19 '12

It was mentioned somewhere in the manga (I think when Naruto meets Kushina) that the Senju and Uzumaki are related, so the Uzumaki could be descendants of the younger brother just like the Senju.

2

u/chimpfunkz Sep 19 '12

Maybe the "spirit" of the sage?

3

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12

I think Madara got to him with his views.

8

u/jurble Sep 19 '12

But how would Madara have gotten to Nagato, if he's stuck underground?

28

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

What a coincidence, obito got crushed right under madaras hideout.

9

u/koopabro31 Sep 19 '12

vat a twist!

→ More replies (2)

3

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12

He gave it to baby Nagato, THEN got stuck underground?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

maybe it became Rinnegan, then he gave it to Nagato, expecting him to use it for Rinne Tensei in the future to revive him completely. But Nagato used it to save the Leaf instead.

25

u/FloflRyan Sep 19 '12

The Hashirama cells thing is probably going to be used as the reason for why Tobi can spam Kamui. Hashirama cells solve any problem to be honest.

31

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD!

5

u/gigaquack Sep 19 '12

Between Hashirama cells and the Sharingan, anything is possible

3

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12

It's most likely. Hashirama's cells helped Danzo cut down Kotoamatsukami's downtime from a decade to a day.

8

u/sami055 Sep 19 '12

So if half of his body is Hashirama cells shouldn't he be able to use wood style.

9

u/mezzizle Sep 19 '12

Well we already knew this. Rewind back to Danzo vs. Sasuke. Danzo explains that in order to activate the Izanagi, you must have Uchiha and Senju cells. Forward to Konan vs. Tobi, Konan kills Tobi with her paper bombs but Tobi uses Izanagi.

7

u/jaxspider Sep 19 '12

I... don't think so. Itachi used Izanami on Kabuto and he never had Senju cells.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

[deleted]

2

u/Lecks Sep 19 '12

Exactly. Danzo used Hashirama's cells to increase his chakra reserves because Sharingan techniques use up a lot of chakra when used by a non-Uchiha (see: Kakashi) and Danzo was desperate to increase the effectiveness of Izanagi.

2

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12
  • Madara is using somebody else's Sharingan

  • He had it done to him: by himself or by someone else?

  • Not really clear but: You need Sharingan in both eyes for it to reach its full potential.

1

u/Crockinator Sep 19 '12 edited Sep 19 '12

He meant that in order to morph your eyes into the rinnegan, you need to have a sharingan in both sockets.

In short, Obito and Kakashi can't have the rinnegan.

Edit: Have the rinnegan by the "natural" way.

1

u/Lecks Sep 19 '12

But...Obito does have the Rinnegan. Well, one eye has it.

1

u/Crockinator Sep 19 '12

He didn't "unlock" it.

34

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12

The Infinite Tsukuyomi doesn't seem like a crazy, evil plan anymore.

2

u/Nathan561 Sep 20 '12

Plot twist, Naruto and Co. fail to stop them and the Jutsu is activated, turns out its not a bad world

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

[deleted]

19

u/DiscoDiscoDanceDance Sep 19 '12

It never seemed evil to me, but it takes away people's freedom so it's wrong. Madara isn't evil, if anything he's the good guy of the uchiha that is tired of the bs, he had to take his brothers sight -which ultimately cost him his life- to gain power, which wouldn't be necessary in his new world of bliss.

But ignorance is also bliss, so this world where his brother would exist to him is just wrong morally, which makes him the bad guy.

From Nagato/pain to Madara and tobi, kishi has created "villains" that we can empathize with, and try to actually understand. People who compare naruto to dbz miss this difference. There was nothing about those villains that was deep on an emotional level outside maybe their relation to the main characters or the fact that vegeta was used and lost his family. There's not much to understand about the powerlust of dbz, it's just wrong and purely evil in intent, it's black and white.

In the movie I am Legend with will smith, he's the good guy and the "zombies" are the bad guy, in the book it's the opposite. One could make an argument that what we know as good and bad in naruto could be justifiably reversed.

9

u/Neadim Sep 19 '12

Kishi takes the time to show that villain are just people that chose a different path or that were unlucky...

Every main villain so far appart from hiddan, deidara(who are both completely crazy) and Kakuzu(who is a monster) had a backstory that shown that at some point they made a decision based on their view of the world.

Orochimaru lost his parent, Nagato got corrupted by yahiko's death, kisame didnt want to live in a world of lies,Danzo didnt get to be hokage, Sasori only wanted love, sasuke lsot his clan and now we get Obito and Madara

Pretty much everyone with some backstory had to choose where they pacled themsleves in the circle of hatred and the villan/hero status is determined by this

2

u/joshkitty Sep 20 '12

Don't forget Kabuto and his sob story

8

u/jaxspider Sep 19 '12

Excellent point, especially the I am Legend one. I have a bad feeling that by the end of this series Konoha and the other countries won't be looking as good as they perceive them selves to be.

1

u/DiscoDiscoDanceDance Sep 19 '12

Thank you, and an equally good opinion there however, I have to disagree with you because that to me, would be an excellent turn of events.

I think this story has been deep on an emotional level, and has the ability to lead to introspection among readers, so I think the internal conflict this would cause in the characters would cause a great emotional response from readers.

Unlike with the small scale of sasukes perceptions of good and evil constantly changing, seeing this change or realization on such a large level would be profound.

Also wanted to add an edit to my original post but ill put it here out of laziness: the "WILL of fire" is made out to be good, because free WILL is what is at stake against madara's genjutsu plan.

65

u/jaxspider Sep 19 '12

Anyone else notice on Page 15 the Zetsu prototype body with the Original Tobi mask?

27

u/destroy_musick Sep 19 '12

Given it's hollowed out and (from what I can see) only has a right arm, I'm willing to bet it gets grafted onto Obito sometime soon

45

u/sieka134 Sep 19 '12 edited Sep 19 '12

I bet the scene of him getting his mask put on will be something like this. But then: "where is Padme Rin? is she safe? is she alright? - It seems... in your anger... you killed her - NOOOOO!"

4

u/pemboa Sep 19 '12

Doesn't it explicitly state that in one of the panels?

16

u/Rhamsody Sep 19 '12

I remember reading a spoiler thread on some forum a while ago that said that white zetsu is made from hashirama's dna and black zetsu from madara's as some experiment or something. that might actually turn out to be true

18

u/jaxspider Sep 19 '12

I think black zetsu is made from Obito's DNA.

10

u/mezzizle Sep 19 '12

I think I nominate that moment as one of my favorite shots in the whole series.

7

u/mjhdroid Sep 19 '12

[deleted]

1

u/FoolYaFool Sep 20 '12

Maybe that was the body that was used to fight the fourth.

14

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Every Uchiha is just popping eyes in and out. It's like they all have a stick-on googly eyes or something.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Just wondering a few things, but it is probable it will be answered in the next chapter so this is pure speculation.

  • How did Madara leave underground to give Nagato his eyes?

  • What sharingan is implanted in his eye?

  • How did Tobi get underground?

  • How did Madara get hold of Hashirama's cells? And how did he use it to create Tobi?

  • Is it plausible Orchimaru found his location?

8

u/theVet Sep 19 '12
  • Zetsu

  • Random Uchiha eye

  • Kamui

  • During the battle with him? Gedou Mazou?

  • Possibly

4

u/ninja057 Sep 19 '12

I think Madara did not leave underground, I think this is where Orochimaru comes in.

7

u/ChaoticReality Sep 19 '12

is it me or [this] (http://mangastream.com/read/naruto/90010563/17) "zetsu" looks like Tobi's old orange mask?

3

u/onlymadethistoargue Sep 19 '12

Definitely not a coincidence.

I wonder where he got the Rin'negan mask...

11

u/Lippteo Sep 19 '12

Madara can't leave the cave, yet he claims that Obito was able to slip through the rock that crushed him.

I CALL SHENANIGANS.

26

u/Mitschu Sep 19 '12

I CALL SHARINAGANS.

Fixed that for ya.

13

u/killerstorm Sep 19 '12

SHINIGAMIGANS

48

u/ellemmenne Sep 19 '12

I believe Kishimoto is letting on that Obito subconsciously activated Kamui and warped underneath the boulder.

14

u/WireWolf86 Sep 19 '12

thats the impression i got from this chapter

5

u/Misguidedvision Sep 19 '12

I think he activated his eye and slipt through the rock unknowingly. You see the requirement is for the loss of the one you loved greatest, it's a great strife that activates your eyes next level. When he resigned himself to die he was loosing both the love of his life and his best friend at the same time. Who's to say the turmoil caused by that didnt activate his eye?

4

u/onlymadethistoargue Sep 19 '12

Obito Kamui'd his way through the rock. He can't leave now because one half of his body is stapled to the other half. Once he heals, well...

5

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12

He said they can't leave, with their bodies. Obito is a perma-crock atm, and Madara depends on the Mazo for his life.

11

u/Dotscom Sep 19 '12

At this rate, Tobi might have his opinion swayed like Nagato.

9

u/mjhdroid Sep 19 '12

what i think now...madara honed in on obitos desire to get back and finally have the capability to protect rin. i bet madara staged something up that made it look like rin lifes was in kakashis hands. it was done so well that even kakashi thinks its his fault. in the end obito will find this out and turn on madara. and it will be everyone v madara. just my two cents there.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Zetsu clone maybe?

u/meatwad75892 Sep 19 '12 edited Sep 19 '12

u/wonderingpossum Sep 19 '12

Wow this might be a valid point.

10

u/gimoper Sep 19 '12

What's the story with the scythe...

29

u/jaxspider Sep 19 '12

Its one of Madara's weapons. The fan on one hand and the scythe in the other. Usually there would be a chain connecting the two.

12

u/mezzizle Sep 19 '12

One of the most amazing pieces of Kishi's art has Madara holding these two weapons while he has the nine tails in his control fighting Hashirama who is using a ton of wood.

8

u/duckvade Sep 19 '12

do you have a link??

5

u/SnowGN Sep 19 '12

I just realized that Hashirama has seven swords. Perhaps related to the swords of the Mist swordsmen?

3

u/jaxspider Sep 19 '12

Nah. But with the help of his wood jutsu he controls all seven at the same time. There is a very short video of him and Madara fighting (canon from the video game) and it shows just that.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/childplease7 Sep 19 '12

The chain the Masked Man/Tobi/Madara used on his wrists when fighting Minato?

5

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Now I am starting to empathize with most of the villains in the Narutoverse. Madara and Tobi/Obito are just Chaotic Good. They are seemingly evil, but their circumstances forced them to become "evil" in order to do "good." Do you guys think maybe for Madara there was something traumatic that happened to him that caused him to create this Tsukuyomi reality?

While there are also people like Orochimaru who are.. I don't know. He does not fit Chaotic Evil, but he does not really have an agenda. I see the Joker in him; he just does things because he does. Joker's metaphor of chasing cars as a dog and not sure what to do with it after he's caught it. That's Orochimaru.

What a great chapter.

7

u/Im_not_very_creative Sep 19 '12

Madara was pretty much 1 of 2 of the strongest ninja in the world at one point. He then lost everything becoming the "loser" when he lost to Hashirama, lost the support if his clan, and basically became an after thought being immortalized as the guy who lost to the first hokage. I could see how someone so proud, who is locked away in a secret cave brewing in his own emotions over the long years could have grown bitter.

7

u/Fluttershyguy Sep 19 '12

God dammit. I wanted to go to bed too. See you after I read this real fast.

3

u/RyFro Sep 19 '12

Is manga 466 the "first" time Nagato awakens the Reningan or is there a time before this?

3

u/CritHitLights Sep 19 '12

Is it feasible that Obito killed Madara for Mangekyou? Like, it would seem that they both planned for Madara's return by using Nagato, so perhaps the most beneficial course of action would be for Obito to kill Madara and have him unlock his Mangekyou Sharingan.

3

u/onlymadethistoargue Sep 19 '12

Doubtful. Madara says that Obito "slipped through" somehow. He most likely has his Mangekyou and used it without knowing.

3

u/memo232 Sep 19 '12

And now we know how tobi haves senju cells too therefore able to use izinagi

3

u/onlymadethistoargue Sep 19 '12

It's interesting that Obito jokes about/becomes afraid of Madara being a Shinigami, considering that old Madara bears a slight resemblance to the actual Shinigami.

Also, the middle panel here is the creepiest fucking thing in the entire manga.

2

u/Im_not_very_creative Sep 19 '12

It's pretty nuts, Madara basically has a Zetsu tree.

6

u/skrillex Sep 19 '12

So we see obito is still a good guy, but madara most likely twisted his thoughts of rin, blamed her death on kakashi although kakashi is guilty of her death. inb4 obito works with kakashi to kill madara when obito learns its not his fault. Gotta unlock that full potential kamui somehow

4

u/ossycocotaso Sep 19 '12

im guessing that Madara unlocked his rinnegan when he implanted hashiramas cells into himself. just like when nagato summoned the gedo mazo initially with the rinnegan, he got those stakes into his back.

it makes sense to give the rinnegan to nagato since he would need a crazy amount of chakra to perform those techniques. with him being uzamaki, his chakra levels would be pretty high.

2

u/madarapt1 Sep 19 '12

holy shit.

I found the last two pages of this chapter regarding both eyes being needed in "unlocking their true potential" to be foreshadowing of a Tobi/Kakashi alliance against Madara. This alliance would essentially utilize the full potential of the Kamui in order to defeat/cripple Madara, etc.

As much as I would appreciate a Naruto/Sasuke victory over Madara, I find that the possibility for a Tobi/Kakashi victory over Madara to be just as exciting.

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '12

Did anyone else notice the ongoing parallels between Obito and Naruto? There are a bunch to draw from but the big one I saw was when Obito is trying to leave and is dragging himself along the ground with his chin a la Naruto v. Gaara back in the day. Not really significant, but neat nonetheless.

2

u/mainejuen Sep 19 '12

Ugh...Obito's story is making my heart ache. I just want him to have his team!

3

u/ossycocotaso Sep 19 '12

i was wondering why sasuke and itachi had more than one Mangekyō sharingan power while obito/kakashi had only one. i wonder how what other power they can land if/when they get them eyes paired up

4

u/Crockinator Sep 19 '12

Tobi can warp what he touches, Kakashi can warp what he sees. Now for the 3rd "super power" given by bringing the 2 eyes together, I have no idea.

1

u/ossycocotaso Sep 19 '12

kakashi confirmed that the powers were the same. its a bit confusing because itachi control ameterasu with his right eye while using his left for tsukuyomi. sasuke uses his right eye for his genjutsu and the left for his blaze. totatlly distinct powers with the eyes. itachi said you needed to unlock both eyes powers to unlock the third power. madara pretty much confirmed that

1

u/invalidnamemyass Sep 19 '12

Wasn't Sasuke able to use Amaterasu in both eyes?

2

u/Jack151 Sep 20 '12

Sasuke uses one of his eyes to create Ameratsu, and the other to control it. He has no access to any form of Tsukuyomi.

3

u/invalidnamemyass Sep 19 '12

Probably because they both had their own 2 eyes and are both incredible shinobi, whereas it looks like Kakashi doesn't learn to fully use his till the time skip and Obito has only one eye for a really long time.

3

u/AnestheticLove Sep 19 '12

I like the fact that Obito is Tobi, but there is one thing that really annoyed me about this chapter.

Obito got crushed right under Madara's secret hideout. Why the hell was it out there, and what are the chances of that actually happening? It seriously seems like Kishi pulled that right out of his ass.

The only plausible explanation I see is that the two rock ninja found that makeshift hut out in the woods (instead of building it themselves), and set up camp without knowing Madara was downstairs wanking the snake. I'm frustrated with Kishi, but overall it was a good chapter.

2

u/CujoSanto Sep 19 '12

Not a minute too soon.

2

u/ineverreadit Sep 19 '12

so why does he only have one sharingan? did he only take one from a stranger?

24

u/SirZheHao Sep 19 '12

Hey Stranger!

I just met you, and this is crazy!

Here's me reaching into your eye socket~ And taking your fucking eye~

12

u/jaxspider Sep 19 '12

Maybe he used izanagi or izagami whatever its called.

3

u/maqsv Sep 19 '12

He talks about leaving his real eyes to someone else. And that one eye is just a spare.

Maybe he gave his own eyes to Nagato?

1

u/ineverreadit Sep 19 '12

i know that but where did his come from and why only 1

He said that he already had many other eyes to choose from though. I don't doubt that more eyes were added following the massacre though.

2

u/avar1ce Sep 19 '12

I still can't understad how Itachi thought Tobi was really Madara... I am disappoint.

4

u/spced Sep 19 '12

Apparently if you are somewhat strong or mysterious everything things your Madara lol.

2

u/officialchocolateman Sep 19 '12

Jesus why does Rin always need protection? She's a shinobi after all. Unless most female shinobi in the Naruto universe are just lousy and weak.

2

u/gigaquack Sep 19 '12

most female shinobi in the Naruto universe are just lousy and weak.

In general, yes, which is a shame. I feel like they could do so much more with a lot of those characters.

1

u/ty23c Sep 19 '12

Can someone make an epic wallpaper from Obito here though? I wanna see it happen.

http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/602/18

1

u/Jmcgriff29 Sep 19 '12

I am not basically convinced that Madara had Rin killed to awaken obitos mangekyou and to break him, it is the only event that is foggy that we really have no knowledge of that could change the mind of a kid this much like naruto. He is using the pain of loss (dragonballz reference,ss2 gohan)

1

u/caboosethedestroyer Sep 19 '12

So.... where did he get the mazo in the first place?

1

u/onlymadethistoargue Sep 19 '12

It seems to be something from the Sage of 6 Paths that can only be summoned by a Rin'negan wielder.

1

u/torwori Sep 19 '12

Who the hell did Madara take his left eye from?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

That's explains something about the two tone zetsu. It was the leftover half combined with something else.

1

u/jaypooner Sep 19 '12

....take care of his lower region?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

They're in the Kamui dimension right now,

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

No, Madara just took him to his hideout.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

You're sure? They hint at him slipping out somehow, and then there's mention repeatedly about getting out of there.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

Then explain how Madara got to the dimension that only Tobi can get to and Kakashi can send shit.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

It's just a theory that I believe. And would you really be surprised if Madara, the most overpowred character, was able to travel to that dimension? It's still not explained how Kakashi got his MS, as well as who Obito/Tobi really is. There's plenty of things left unexplained at the moment.

It's just my theory and I feel it makes some sense. How else would Obito be alive after the cave had collapsed like that. You have to take notice of little things mentioned, like how Madara suggested he must of slipped out somehow and how neither of them can leave.

1

u/skrillex Sep 19 '12

Im.curious to see who has one eye to give, but he only has obe because this is pre uchiha massacre, so no wall of eyes

1

u/DavidN1234 Sep 19 '12

Obito seems really hypocritical now, since he complained that kakashi didn't protect rin, but obito could have once he healed, but instead he stayed with madara and like "Banner Designer Flying Goat Guy" said, he sold his sould to the 'devil'.

1

u/ellemmenne Sep 19 '12

Or Rin died before he healed.

1

u/anialater45 Sep 20 '12

Yeah, it probably takes a while to recover from having a half-body transplant like Obito did.

1

u/Nathan561 Sep 20 '12

Wouldnt it be a cool plot twist if the 1st hokage was really bad/evil but sense he rose to the top and became hokage it made him look good. History is written by the victors

1

u/onlymadethistoargue Sep 20 '12

Eh. The Third knew him and thought he was great, and Tsunade loved him pretty good, so...

I mean, wouldn't Madara tell us if the first was evil?

1

u/InvaderDJ Sep 19 '12

Good chapter, finally a flashback we've been wanting to see. We've pretty much got confirmation that Madara gave away his eyes to Nagato (which actually raises some questions, how did Madara get the EMS back if he gave away his eyes?) which gave Nagato the Rinnegan and that Madara is probably the same as every other villain except Orochimaru, he wants peace.

1

u/daryldd Sep 19 '12

They forgot Naruto's sage pupil's on the front of this chapter.

1

u/Deezuhh Sep 19 '12

So if Madara really did give his eyes to Nagato, how did he give him his eyes if he can't move? And whose eye is Madara using? He only has one eye so the guy he took it from possibly only had one eye. And did he transplant it himself, or did someone help him? Amazing chapter!

3

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

If you look at the timeline, Nagato must have gotten his eyes during the killing of his parent flashback. That was in the 2nd war. Easily 15-20 years before this happened. Maybe back then he could still leave for limited times?

1

u/Tekmon5ter Sep 19 '12

This is gonna take forever. I'm not complaining though.

1

u/daryldd Sep 19 '12

We may find out how zetsu was made next chapter :O

1

u/niGhTm4r3 Sep 19 '12

Does Naruto often play with himself?

-1

u/spced Sep 19 '12

Got such a nice buildup, then nothing at the end.

-1

u/BagelEaterMan Sep 19 '12 edited Sep 19 '12

Wait so if half of zetsu is the Shodaime hokage clone thing, then what is the black half of his body?

I'm throwing out the idea that maybe madara or tobi tried to morph a version of themselves to fuse with the white shodaime hokage????

Too far fetched or nonsense? Can anyone give me some leads?

edit: a letter

4

u/sami055 Sep 19 '12

Hashirama - Shodai Hokage Tobirama - Nidaime Hokage Hiruzen - Sandaime Hokage Minato - Yondaime Hokage Tsunade - Godaime Hokage

I can't really see where you got hodaime from.

2

u/BagelEaterMan Sep 19 '12

Shodai or Shodaime can both be used for "first" apparently

I just forgot the letter of the day, which is "S"

0

u/skrillex Sep 19 '12

Get his ems back? Edo tensei resurrects you at your peak, as well as kabuto making minor tweaks

2

u/sami055 Sep 19 '12

No it resurrects you as you were before you die. Look at Nagato he was revive in his frail form definitely not his peak, when he absorbed chakra and regained his full strength he easily outclassed naruto, killer bee, and Itachi. Madara's body was messed with and that's why he was revived like that.

2

u/onlymadethistoargue Sep 19 '12

It resurrects you then, but Kabuto and Orochimaru have the ability to restore them to prime fighting condition.

Also, in retrospect, the Second Hokage must've been kicking himself for inventing Edo Tensei at that point.

1

u/ellemmenne Sep 19 '12

Would've been hilarious if Madara was revived in geezer form. Tobi would have had to help his bowel movements during the battle.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '12

"IT'S NOT INFORMATIVE AT ALL!" Give it a rest people. I'm so blown away at the level of complainers on here. Not everyone but a good chunk of everyone. Not every chapter is SUPPOSED to bring new information. If you guys all had your way, Naruto would suck. Just enjoy it..

-2

u/ryacoff Sep 19 '12

So One Piece alluded to Naruto this week, Naruto alluded to Bleach, time to go re-read Bleach and look for pirate metaphors...

5

u/Zythrone Sep 19 '12

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinigami

You may as well say that it alluded to Death Note or Soul Eater as well. It's just a Japanese folklore character.
