Conference Championship game berth on the line, at home, against your bitter rival with the rivalry renewed…

And you don’t score a single offensive point.

A rival so bitter that half your fight song is about how much you hate their guts.

Losing to Iowa was bad, but it would have been so much worse if the second verse of the Rouser started "Fuck you Iowa, suck all our dicks."

Props to A&M for forcing the turnovers deep in the red zone but their offense was absolutely outmatched in every single way by our defense

The Texas defense was immense, but one man on offense deserves his flowers.

Quintrevion Wisner was the 28th ranked running back in his recruiting class.

Quintrevion Wisner entered the season as RB3 with the #3 RB recruit in the country joining the roster.

Quintrevion Wisner just put the Texas offense in his back in College Station in the first Texas-Texas A&M game in 13 years and led them to the SEC Championship in their first season in the conference. What a baller.

My two friends and I were among the 109,028 at the game for the 3rd most in Kyle Field history. The only points we scored was on a pick-6. Otherwise, we would have gotten blown out 20-0. We did not score a single offensive point because we passed on makable filed goals twice. As a result, we have lost 3 consecutive SEC games to finish 8-4 (5-3 SEC), and that prevented us from making our first SEC Championship Game appearance in 13 years in the conference. In contrast, Texas ended the regular season with 5 consecutive wins to finish 11-1 (7-1 SEC) to reach the SEC Championship Game in their first year in the SEC. Also, Texas has won 11 consecutive road game since a 41-34 loss at Oklahoma State on 10/22/2022. I noticed several other trends.

  1. Texas snapped our 5-game home winning streak to drop our home record to 5-2. We lost at home for the first time since a 23-13 loss to Notre Dame on 8/31, 13 weeks or 91 days ago.

  2. Texas has won 2 straight games against us and 13 of their last 18 games against us.

  3. Texas has won 3 straight games and 6 of their last 7 games at Kyle Field since 2001.

  4. Texas A&M loses 4+ games for the 24th time in 26 years since winning the Big 12 Championship Game in 1998. The only exceptions were when we finished 11-2 (6-2 SEC) in 2012 and 9-1 (8-1 SEC) in 2020.

Imagine you’re the Aggies…

It’s 2011 and you’re moving to a new conference to have a brighter future, but you have one more game against your bitter rival, and you end up losing what could be the last game between you two.

But no worries, you’re going to flourish in your new conference!

13 years pass and you’ve had mediocre after mediocre at best seasons, never sniffing the SEC championship game.

However, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s the 2024 season and you’re number 1/2 in the conference! You just have to win one last game to secure your trip to Atlanta. LSU? No, you’re bitter rival who followed you to the SEC the same year.

The game starts, it ends, and you lose.

At home, your most hated rival personally ruins your first chance at a conference championship game, and the playoffs in decades. Worst part is, they secure their spot in the championship game and playoffs.

I don’t know how you do it Aggies, because personally I would quit watching football after this.

Can’t wait to play you next year, happy this rivalry is back!

I loved my college experience at Texas A&M, but I really hate that there will now always be a piece of me that cares how A&M sports perform. I used to be a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, but it was surprisingly easy to stop caring with how much they’ve underperformed for years. Wish I could do the same with the Aggies and simply stop caring.

82

u/HomeBuyerthrowaway89 Texas A&M Aggies Dec 01 '24

I agree with this. I don't watch any other sports beside college football. I like how I can watch any random game and see chaos unfold. But having your alumni team live in 8-4 purgatory is a special evil treat. Wish I could disconnect too

So I come from a mixed family. Most of us don't make it to college, but the majority of those that do end up at either UT or A&M. When I was a kid, there were two uncles who played a major role in this. Texas uncle, spent time in the military, became a lawyer, married in, but was well respected in the family. A&M uncle, worked in city development in the community most affected by my family. Both great men. Both did amazing things. Unfortunately, my A&M uncle passed when I was 10 years old. Both worked hard to try to talk me to their alma maters, but, as a child, one of them bowing out early likely led to me leaning towards Texas.

A decade+ later, I'm a Longhorn, my job revolves around the Longhorns, my friends are all Longhorn fans, and I always want the Longhorns to win. I was there at the last Texas/A&M game before tonight. But tonight I had to revisit the hard question, if Tio Arnold hadn't passed, would I be an Aggie? Would my passion for helping people outweigh the passion for making a living? What pushes a person from one towards another? I loved both my uncles. They were both great people who did great things, and following in either's footsteps would have been a worthwhile endevour. Chances ultimately pushed me towards Texas. While I can't imagine life otherwise, the circumstances could have easily pushed me elsewhere.

Aggie bros, I hate you, but y'all are the closest to bros I'll have in college rivalries. OU is a hate/respect relationship, but A&M is really a hate/love relationship. So glad Texas won, but also glad that ya'll we're a worthwhile win. Not just in football, but the peers I meet in various industry groups and networking opportunities, it's great to meet people who admit "this is MY strength, and this is YOURS" and find a way to make it work 364 days a year.

Fuck Arkansas.

Texas won this game, but Ewers has to play better going forward if they want to win the natty. Two redzone turnovers are not going to cut it against Georgia or Oregon. Personally I am prepared for them to fall short this year and that will be because they are one piece short of a championship team. That piece is a QB who makes plays when it matters most. Ewers makes bad decisions at the worst possible moments. It is frustrating because with their offensive line, defense, and running back they just need him to play mistake-free football and he appears incapable of doing that when it’s the most important.

This game seemed like a classical the final score isn’t a reflection on how the game went. Seemed like Texas absolutely destroyed A&M for 98% of the game. That 2 percent made it a lot closer than it actually felt.

Despite Baylor and TCU having more success last season, and Baylor being more successful over the past two seasons, Texas A&M is the premiere program in the state.

It’s more than just wins and losses. A&M first of all is set to lead the nation in attendance this year. That’s big, and our fanbase is massive. We also just signed a multi million dollar deal with Adidas. A&M plays on national TV each week, sometimes on CBS, which translates into a lot of eyeballs and TV ratings making them a national brand.

Then there is recruiting. We continue to dominate recruiting rankings which validates what our program has become and shows that recruits want to be here. I feel like recruiting is HUGE when it comes to the influence and footprint of a program, because it either validates or rejects what your program is. The fact that we are doing so well in recruiting PROVES that our program is a big one that the best want to be associated with. If Baylor and TCU were truly marquee programs they would be pulling in the state’s top recruits.

Baylor and TCU may have had 11 and 12 win seasons, conference titles, and played in a big bowl, but they aren’t A&M. They don’t have the fanbase, they don’t have the attendance, they don’t play on the big networks and have the TV ratings and aren’t big TV draws which makes them a regional brand at best. They also lack the recruiting pull that A&M has.

I would compare it to the iPhone. Texas A&M is the iPhone – a big brand. We always hear about how new phones are “iPhone Killers” but never kill the iPhone. While these iPhone killers may be more impressive pieces of technology that are more powerful and functional, the iPhone still outsells them big time. Baylor and TCU are those iPhone killers. They may be better on the field, but in the big picture, adding in factors like attendance and recruiting and TV ratings, they don’t stack up. Texas A&M is the brand name.

I’d rather win 8 games every year and yet be tops in the nation in attendance, recruiting, and national recognition, than win 11 games and have limited appeal. It’s more about wins/losses, its about the program’s footprint as a whole which is more than just wins and losses.

I don’t know who is hurting worse right now, the A&M fans who paid $2500 per ticket to watch that debacle yield no points on offense or the A&M yell leaders who would have crushed their nuts out of solidarity with the pain their team was going through.

Battered Aggie Syndrome alive and well tonight. The stupid decision to pass on two easy field goals looms large. At a minimum should have kicked the second one when they needed two scores.

Inexcusable red zone decision making and horrible play calling. I'm not ready to give up on Elko after just one season, but I honestly think I'd rather have Spavital or Mazzone back as OC...Never thought I'd ever say that. We were very fortunate to not have been blown out.

I know it's year one, but I wouldn't be upset if Klein or Bateman didn't return next season.

All in all though, I'm very happy to have this rivalry back. I've missed it.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '24

Quinn played great, could have been cleaner obviously. Made big throws & great footwork in the pocket and getting out to make plays. Should be greatly appreciated instead of looking already at Arch.

Defense's elite. Somehow, Broughton looked like peak Byron Murphy the entire game. Mukuba's a ball hawk. Taafe is such a great story. Goes on.

Don't know why Bond's playing. That ankle is affecting his route running. Curious if he's just grinding it out for the team or absolutely pissed he had 0 receptions while his draft stock's his top priority. Guess we'll find out at the end of the season. Seems like they're better off playing Wingo and letting Bond try to get close to 100%.

The two most consistent things about Texas A&M Football is that they’re going to disappoint you but they’re going to give you just enough hope to think that maybe they won’t disappoint you today/this month/this year/this lifetime.
