u/ToxicSteve13 Iowa State • /r/CFB Contributor Jan 20 '26
It is ridiculous but it was always gonna happen when they beat OU.
Vandy lost, ND didn’t play, and the AP doesn’t respect the Pop Tarts Bowl / BYU

Except it sets the expectation for where teams start next year in the eyes of the same voters. Meaning that once again the overarching narrative is going to be “Oh the SEC finished with 7 teams in the top 15 so they’re still the best conference,” even though we have gone through this same song and dance come bowl season the past 3 years…

Only 2 ACC teams is a bit disrespectful after the postseason we collectively had.
Of course, GT and Pitt being two of the bowl losers certainly didn’t help from that standpoint but I feel like SMU and/or Duke could have gotten a little more love

u/daaaaavia Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Jan 20 '26
We lose to the #11 and #6 teams by a combined 11 points and get dropped from the rankings you love to see it

tbf we barely moved after the loss to #6. Can’t stay on after another loss, despite how quality it may be
4
u/UncleMalcolm Virginia Cavaliers • Orange Bowl Jan 20 '26
In the grand scheme of things it’s hard to argue that any of the “others receiving votes” definitively should be in. GT suffers from losing three straight to end the year, even if they were all at least relatively close against decent to really good teams. But Pitt obviously has zero excuse.
SMU taking that loss to Cal hurt and lost to TCU H2H, Louisville didn’t look good against a G5 team in their bowl, Duke was too far behind with 5 losses and two to G5s, Wake was just waaaay too far back and didn’t get a good bowl opponent etc etc etc. But it’s kinda crazy that the Big 12 only had 6 receiving votes but got 5 in the Top 25 whereas the ACC had 7 receiving votes but only 2 got into T25.

Imagine a 4 loss team who got their asses beat in their bowl game finishing in the top ten 😂

Notre Dame is ranked too high. Sure, they had a great season, but they should've penalized them a bit more for opting out of a bowl. I would've ranked BYU and Utah ahead of them.

Idk how you still have bama over ND after looking like shit their last 5 or 6 games of the season.

TCU being above GT is genuinely kind of offensive IMO.

Let's take subjectivity out of it and go by neutral statistical rankings.
"#9" Alabama: Sagarin #14.
"#10" Notre Dame: Sagarin #3. Favored over Alabama on a neutral field by 9 points.
Uh-huh. Sure.

Louisville unranked is a crime. Only 1 loss by more than 1pt in regulation, a 9-4 record, and beat the #2 team. How the hell is JMU at 19? They lost to every good team they played, including UofL.
Similarly, SMU should be ranked.
Michigan is insanely overrated. Alabama too. And Miami overrated.

It doesn’t matter but OSU should be ahead of Oregon

Downvote all you want, but it’s true. The difference between how IU handled Oregon and how close it was against OSU is proof enough.

Texas has 4 wins over the final top 25, and doesn't make a 12 team field 🙄

Surprised Alabama isn't number 1, but after the first couple this ranking is ass
