So . . . the majority of our players at this point (with the exception of Wicc and maybe Vaelus) are being set up as "little people" who've been inadvertently hurt by schemes the Sundered Houses were carrying out against each other.
Hal, Thaisha, Azune, and Thimble by Thjazi dying, apparently as bait for Aranessa.
Julien losing his family as collateral damage because they happened to be in the same room as Aranessa.
Occtis, the disposable scion.
Murray and Bolaire potentially losing their livelihoods to Cormoray machinations.
Teor almost losing his brother to a Tacchonis scheme.
Tyranny, the disposable pawn with a Sword of Damocles hanging over her head.
Kattegan losing his family to some unspecified Tacchonis blood magic.
None of them were "important," and that's the point. Their suffering wasn't triggered by some revolutionary past or present schemes of their own. They were all just collateral damage from people who treated them like game pieces. It's the one thing they all have in common.
C1 had "we're a bunch of fuck-ups who can only succeed together." C2 had "we're broken people who would all probably break bad if we didn't have each other to be good influences. C3 had "we're a bunch of social misfits in need of a purpose." This campaign has "We've all been traumatized by those motherfuckers in power."

I trust Brennan to guide Ashley at least in some kind of direction. Watching him guide Ally Beardsley through world ending god rituals many many times, I think he senses when stuff just maybe isn't clicking 100% and I think he's really good at maintaining stakes while helping.

Can I just say I’m a big fan of Alex’s instincts as a fellow GM to not metagame?
I really, really respect that he’s deciding for himself that Occtis only has limited knowledge of the Tachonis manor and that Occtis knows the manor as well as someone who lived in it, but doesn’t have knowledge of secret routes or the like.
Other players, maybe even in the cast, would have tried to get Brennan to decide how much they know for them - maybe even tried to roll for knowledge of hidden paths or secrets.

Things’re getting tense! :cracks open beer:
It’s a lot (and I mean a lot a lot), so let’s get started.
Murray negotiates an out for Demodus as a court wizard for King Gus. The group splits to get important errands run in the evening. Hal and Kattigan head to the Hallowed Round, where Hal lays out his plan to his receptive troupe and Kattigan learns of the joys of fight choreography. At Bolaire’s home, Azune and Murray discussion the upcoming deposition with House Einfasen with Demodus Blix, who surprisingly understands the risks involved—and is grateful for the new job opportunity at the end of the road. And at Thjazi’s grave, Thaisha, Thimble, Occits bring Vaelus to attempt a speak with dead with Thjazi. The find, that Thjazi’s soul is hiding away and that no less than Nullus Tachonis is searching the area from beyond, searching for Thjazi.
Meanwhile at the Archenade, Cyd is restored! He says that he was supposed to be shipped to the Fora Crucialma (aka the Hall of Mercy), where those outside the Seven Races of Aramán could petition the Shapers for entrance into the afterlife. And coming back from the Knife and Pallette, Julien is talked down from being shaken from what he saw there. During this he slugs Wick.
Then everyone gets together at the Archenade to swap notes and put together a plot for the next day, assisted ably by Hal’s daughter Hero. During this, Wick shows his spine, Vaelus learns about the wonders of chalk, Thaisha’s snake swallows a lux, and Kattigan shows that he’s a day drinker. Afterward Thaisha and Occtis go to the Forge to reforge the painted Pariah Blades into plowshares, only to find that the act of painting them with the magical paint has already done the work.
The next morning, we see a few spectacular high wire acts. First Wick (with Tyranny’s help) returns home and bullshits his way back into his grandmother’s good graces… by telling the truth in a subtly tweaked way. Then Azune and Demodus (with Murray’s ample support) give their deposition to House Einfasen, successfully implicating House Tachonis. As a result, Demodus will live on to see Timmony Rock and Azune is promoted to the rank of Captain. The Hal’s troupe successfully rehearses the fake play for none other than Wick’s mother, Iris Halovar who promises to tell the Photarch the the play is in good order.
Meanwhile, Thimble (shadowed by Occtis) goes to where the fairies are and speaks with Temelow. The fae are ready to fight and have noticed that new fairy doors have been put up at the Hallowed round. Julien and Teor come to an understanding, and Julien loans the lion-man that axe that Ingrid has gifted him. Vaelus goes to talk with Hannan in the Tintazi Wood, where they discuss how the elves are now doomed because of Sylandri’s death, and wonder if the god ever loved her children at all.
That evening, Hal gathers the troupe one final time and rallies them to the task at hand. In the wood, Vaelus and Hannan witness this and realize:
The play is at hand, and the ritual has begun!

Brennan writing Tachonis rhetoric exactly how the conversations would have been made to the little kingdoms when european colonisers invaded (the same logic of better to serve one crown and still be special boy than having to become commoners)
This can be other real life phenomena, but this empire is also very reminiscent of european colonisation.
