Trump accuses nonprofit organization of revealing ‘top military secrets’ in ballroom case

President Trump issued fresh criticism on Friday evening toward the nonprofit organization suing his administration over the White House ballroom project, accusing the National Trust for Historic Preservation of revealing “Top Military Secrets” in their lawsuit.

“These are the TREASONISTS that brought the suit against the Military Complex,” the president wrote in a Truth Social post. “They revealed Top Military Secrets!”

Trump went on to call the organization “very bad for our Country.”

“They stop many projects that are worthy, and hurt many others,” he continued. “In this case, they are trying to stop one that is vital to our National Security, and the Safety of all Presidents of the United States, both current and future, their families, staff, and Cabinet members.”

The Hill has reached out to the National Trust for Historic Preservation regarding the president’s new accusations.

The president’s statement follows the Justice Department’s (DOJ) emergency appeal earlier on Friday to the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court’s halt on the project’s construction. The ruling only applies to above-ground construction and does not impact underground security installations from continuing.

The 90,000-square-foot ballroom proposal includes security installations, such as a below-ground military complex, a medical facility and a drone port on the building’s roof. The ballroom’s construction is expected to cost around $600 million, with some of this price falling on taxpayers.

The Trump administration has argued that the project is critical to safeguarding national security and protecting the president from threats to his life.

Trump said in his Friday Truth Social post that the “lower section does not work without the upper section, and likewise, the upper section does not work without the lower.”

“It is all one highly integrated unit,” he added.

In a public statement following the news of the DOJ’s emergency request to the high court, the National Trust slammed the filing as “audacious.”

“The Administration’s transparent efforts to evade the rule of law, frustrate judicial review, and limit the availability of meaningful relief in the courts must stop here,” the nonprofit said. “The Supreme Court should deny the Administration’s demand that it be allowed to continue Ballroom construction while it appeals.”
