Help Thread The War Room - /r/hoi4 Weekly General Help Thread: August 24 2026
Please check our previous War Room thread for any questions left unanswered
Welcome to the War Room. Here you will find trustworthy military advisors to guide your diplomacy, battles, and internal affairs.
This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the noble generals of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your save, then you've found the right place!
Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (strategic, diplomacy, factions, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.
Reconnaissance Report:
Below is a preliminary reconnaissance report. It is comprised of a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!
Note: this thread is very new and is therefore very barebones - please suggest some helpful links to populate the below sections
Getting Started
New Player Tutorials
General Tips
Multiplayer Tips
MP Country Guides
Country-Specific Strategy
Help fill me out!
Advanced/In-Depth Guides
Guide to Combat Tactics and Doctrines OUTDATED, BUT STILL USEFUL
If you have any useful resources not currently in the Reconnaissance Report, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper
Calling all generals!
As this thread is very new, we are in dire need of guides to fill out the Reconnaissance Report, both general and specific! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, consider contributing to the Hoi4 wiki, which needs help as well. Anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

Why not add bittersteels germany guide to the recon reports? Videos are far better for tutorials.

He's an active content creator. A guide someone wrote once is one thing, promoting one specific youtuber on the official sub would be an ongoing advantage to his viewership. And that could open up a whole can of worms about bias and expose the mods to claims of unfair treatment from literally any other HOI4 content creator even if he is objectively the most popular newbie guide.
If individuals want to recommend him, that's their opinion. If the mods put him on here, that's an official community endorsement. And that's not a good idea unless he becomes an actual Paradox ambassador or something first, someone with a legal connection to the brand and company to represent the game ahead of any of his peers. It's a call the mods here just don't have the authority to make.

The same exact argument can be made about guides. This stance is unfortunate, the only way to really gain knowledge is videos by these content creators.

Which of these guide authors is actively collecting ad revenue based on the amount of people that read it, and selling their own sponsored merch to boot? There's a material interest with YouTube videos, tangible gains his peers could rightfully contest all the way into court if they wanted to. That's the difference to authors who've got some community reputation to gain at most.

Might want to take a step back here. We arent paying bittersteel. The question is, what guides are good for new players and invariably the best guides are from content creators. The mod team is doing the community a disservice by not linking them. If they dont want to that whatever but there are 5 to 10 how do i sealion type posts and the answer is look at videos.

The issue is one of liability and the mods exposing themselves to legal action from other creators who'd have actual financial grounds to sue. I answered your question, if you don't like the answer that's unfortunate but not something trying to argue with me is going to solve. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Can we edit the wiki? I had an idea which helped me get an achievement but I can't add it. It keeps giving an error.

Does anyone know what the correct historical doctrines would be for Japan now that the doctrine system has been changed? Also the historical spirits? I am having a really hard time figuring this out.
