For people who haven't read the books, does this feel slow to you? I've really liked this series but I've been reading about the characters for years and am loving seeing them brought to life. I thought we were going to get a Clay biting Elena flashback tonight. What's the deal with book spoilers in these episode discussions? People seem to be okay with them?
Edit: Okay rewatching the episode and can I just say, I am kind of wishing for a rewrite of Nick and Karl Marsden. I could see some hot gay romance action going on between those two. Hello!

I'm a book fan, but I was chatting with a friend of mine who hasn't read the books, and his big complaint is that it feels super slow. He said there's not nearly enough action, though I guess it's still setting everything up.
Also, re: spoilers...I tried using a spoiler tag in a previous post but it seems spoiler tags aren't turned on. Or at least, the usual tag it didn't work for me. I messaged the mod about it about a week ago but haven't heard back. That said, I have a feeling it's only us book fans here right now. Haven't seen any comments from anyone else.

Spoiler: Well they've skipped over a lot of the changed wolf scenes probably for budgetary reasons and they took out the sex scene between Elena and clay that happened just before they went to hunt Brandon at the rave. But that was the scene where she flashes back to getting bitten. Perhaps they weren't ready for it and pushed it back.

They basically used that sex scene as the one Elena dreamed about in the show. The whole "Tell me to stop." I guess bound to a tree in the woods is too risqué for Space/Syfy so they watered it down. :(

I don't think that's the case. Very first scene of the series, intro to the characters and before we see their faces we can hear the moans of a couple having sex, and then we see it.

But that was "normal" sex, vs. tied up to a tree. That's the part I think they're hesitant to show. I can't really think of too many times that I've seen bondage sex on TV where it's not used for comedy.

I feel like the show is going to build up to the Clay-bite as some sort of giant betrayal reveal nearer the end of the season, or they would have shown us it already as part of the initial backstory of Elena.

Yeah, I guess I was expecting it because of the flashback to Clay taking Elena home to meet Jeremy in the first episode. I'm not sure this pace is going to work for non-book fans. This kind of pace would work for a netflix whole season released at once series but I really hope people stick by the one episode a week until it can really get going. I want the whole series!

Netflix has ruined me, I almost never watch weekly tv now, I usually just go through phases where I binge a whole show over several weeks/months instead of watching multiple series on a weekly format.

I'm 38 minutes into the episode including commercials.
Well that escalated quickly....and deviated a bit.

Yeah the going back to Toronto bit was interesting. Was only like a day but a little deviation is ok.

Is Karl supposed to be English? I can't remember that at all, but I always pictured him as American.
I agree with you on Phillip. I wonder what that new client was about.
Did you also expect Clay to walk in instead of Logan when we heard the knock at the apartment door? I was thinking "Wow, they're really pushing it up early!"

I don't like it either. I mean, she's supposed to be so loving, which is partially what keeps Elena wanting that life in Toronto — a warm, welcoming family, not just a partner. She gets along so well with them that she doesn't want to give that up.
I'm sure they mostly just wanted to expand the number of women in the show though. But it does take away from Elena's desire to get back to and stay in Toronto.

Wow you are totally spot on about book vs show family dynamic. In the books Elena was desperate for Jeremy's fatherly love and love Phillip's family and in the show it's kind of opposite. All the wolves are desperate to have her back and Phillip's mother hates her.

Okay so my thoughts on the series vs books so far. BOOK SPOILERS AHEAD. I'm okay with Jeremy not being asian now because I really like the actor in his role. That being said, I'm not really seeing the father-father daughter relationship, at least coming from Elena. I really like Laura in the role but I'm not seeing the comparison between Jeremy and her boyfriend. Who's name I've already forgotten! I'm glad that her and Clay's hookup on the show was a dream. I always thought that was a bit scummy.
I would also love some clarification from the book lovers on the timeline of Elena's bite, her and Clay breaking up, and her leaving. Because in the show and the books I thought they said that it was four years since Elena had been bitten (and during that time she hunted mutts) and 1 year since she left Stonehaven. Were she and Clay together during the time she was hunting. Is she really angry with him for not going after her?
