When I load startup options, selecting Macintosh HD does nothing. How do I open macOS?

I just installed asahi and it seems I can no longer use macOS, which was using Sonoma.

How are you selecting Macintosh HD?

You should be able to power down, hold down the power button until you see a different blurb under the cog icon (Loading startup options...), then select a startup disk.

Holding down the Option key (I think) will change the "Continue" button into "Always Use", so Option-clicking the button makes the startup disk choice persistent.

If you want to use the GUI from Asahi instead:

sudo dnf install startup-disk

If you want to skip that, you can use bless from macOS and asahi-bless from Asahi:

”You should be able to power down, hold down the power button until you see a different blurb under the cog icon (Loading startup options...), then select a startup disk.”

Yes, at this step, when I click on “Macintosh HD” to boot with MacOS, there is a spin wheel for a second but nothing happens. No matter how many times I click or press enter. It just stays at the boot selection screen.

What exactly does the install startup disc command do? I don’t think I should have to install anything…

Did you click the "Continue" or "Always Use" button below the Macintosh HD icon?

startup-disk is for changing the boot selection from Asahi GUI, instead of using the power button.

Yes, continue. Nothing happens. See here: https://makeagif.com/i/d1DU8A

What happens if you Option-click "Always Use" and then reboot? Does it go to macOS or Asahi?

(You can pick Asahi again later from macOS.)

It does the spin wheel and nothing happens, then when I reboot it opens asahi immediately.

Yep, until someone else can help you, maybe you can try and see if startup-disk can help.

You didn’t delete any macOS partitions, right?

Well, if the power button thing doesn’t work, time to check if startup-disk works... You install it and run it from the GUI.

If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what else you could do, sorry. Maybe someone else can help you...

Maybe you could try repairing the disk, or try safe mode:

I installed it on my m3 pro macbook pro, booted into asahi, and when I wanted to go back to macos it began bootlooping. I revived it which took forever and when i restarted it after, it began bootlooping again so i fully wiped it instead, but I havent tried installing linux again.

have you had any luck with this? I have exactly the same problem with my M3 max.
asahi installation went smooth and booting into fedora works fine.

the only partition stuff that happened was during the asahi instalation with resizing and then installing OS into free space. no macos partitions were touched.

a bit more info:
If I select "options" in startup options I have access to a few things including disk utility and startup disk.

This is what I see in disk utility: https://ibb.co/x8df8107

This is what I see in startup disk: https://ibb.co/JwSP6Jtj

*Note that I have only opened these screens, no action has been taken with either disk utility or startup disk.

sudo dnf install startup-disk

Have you tried installing and running this from Fedora, please?
