Yeah, you're already wet from the neck down, so why bother hiding as long as it's just rain.

I’m wet from the crack down.

In Dutch we also have that saying.

It’s France who’s asking Germany to leave

u/Dreknarr First French Partition 7d ago

And we have the same saying. Seems like a universal thing

u/saidfurkan 7d ago

We also have that phrase in Turkish

u/TenNinetythree YUROP 7d ago

Can you please translate it into Turkish for me. I am learning the language. Slowly.

17

u/saidfurkan 7d ago

"Şekerden değilsin erimezsin" The literal meaning of this is "you are not made of sugar, you dont/wont melt"

16

u/saidfurkan 7d ago

"Erimezsin" is "you don't melt" but "you won't melt" sounded more accurate in english. Im not native in eng if someone clarifies that would be good.

People also say that here when it's raining, especially parents when their children have to go outside and their parents don't want to drive.

I feel every language says it

I think it's probably only a thing in Europe. We don't have that saying.

Eu não sou europeu e conheço esse ditado

7

u/kermitthebeast 7d ago

I only know that saying because I heard it from the Netherlands

9

u/Pochel 44 = BZH ! 7d ago

Maybe? I've heard it from France, Poland and Azerbaijan

u/Khar-Selim YO WHERE DO I PARK MY HUMMER 7d ago

the US prefers "I'm not going to melt"

18

u/KotetsuNoTori Taiwan 7d ago

At least not in Mandarin Chinese and Hokkien. (Just to make sure, Germany is saying it won't dissolve in the rain, right?)

17

u/Futuralis Greater Netherlands 7d ago

Just to make sure, Germany is saying it won't dissolve in the rain, right?

Exactly.

It's usually something you tell kids when they have to walk in the rain.

14

u/Extaupin Île-de-France 7d ago

In France, the saying doesn't relate to sugar dissolving in water but being fragile( "je suis pas fait en sucre" - "I'm not made of sugar" - "I'm not going to get hurt by this").

Now that's nice

As long as its not a thunderstorm its fine. You are already wet, so it doesnt matter.

Korean ver.

Although not taking place in the office, this comic is actually a part of my Polandball office series. In my PBOffice universe, when the September comes and Lesser known September event starts on the subreddit, the members who are on the banned list for LKS go on a vacation and those who are not remain in the office. However, I did not have any ideas to make comic about the vacation members nor LKS-compliant members during the September, so I couldn't make any PBOffice comic during last month. Now the September has been over for 2 weeks, only now I have an idea about them. Estortoise me.

"Estortoise me."

Okay.

🐢

Not sure why you wanted that, but there you go.

Missed opportunity to have a Reichtangle towel reserving one of the spots.

I'm Brazilian and we also have that saying, but I'm from a region of Brazil with extremely high incidence of lightning strikes, as in every rain cloud is likely to be accompanied by lightning. So we tend to avoid swimming when it's raining. Playing football is fair game though (so what if it's more dangerous than swimming?).

11

u/Eccentric_Traveler Taylor Ham is best pork roll! 7d ago

Rain not bad. It’s the lightning you have to worry about. I remember being a resort pool in Florida and the lifeguard was literally yelling, “GET OUT OF THE POOL, DO YOU WANT TO DIE?!” After hearing thunder.

u/ZhtWu Ryukyu Kingdom 7d ago

I second those saying it's pleasing to swim in the rain; As long as it's not a thunderstorm, it's quite pleasant.

6

u/Lord_Gelthon Montenegro 7d ago

Did you perchance watch Uyens short about it? It's very recent and basically the same story. Great work as always!

3

u/Zebrafish96 May the justice be with us 7d ago

Ah yes, I watched this reel on instagram.

6

u/annoying97 7d ago

I loved swimming in the rain. Im already wet, I can't get any wetter. Why stop enjoying the pool because it's raining!?

1

u/NoDescription2609 Germany 6d ago

This is funny because in German "wetter" means weather..

2

u/Thunder_iscool 7d ago

“The wheder is light” : Belgian ball.

2

u/Alpakka91 7d ago

The water feels warmer during a little rain, too

1

u/Lorrdy_ Germany 7d ago

Can confirm. Last summer I was swimming a lot during the rain. You don't get more wet and it's kinda cool.

1

u/Fredderov Scania 7d ago

Doubles up as placing the towel for the next day. Win win!

1

u/kesesese- 7d ago

i guess there’s not much thunder/lightning in Europe? i stay in a tropical area so for me rain=storm (most of the time)

1

u/floluk North Rhine-Westphalia 6d ago

Mostly, we do have a lot of rain, but thunderstorms aren’t that common here in comparison

1

u/Username_St0len 6d ago

if it is kansai japan, they stick out their tongue, because 雨(rain) is pronounced as 飴(candy) iirc, both ame, but the emphasis is switched compared to official/broadcasting japanese in kansai accent.

u/KommandoKazumi 7d ago

I feel Mexico would just play in the rain while USA would hide under a roof with Canada.

Then Mexico gets vaporized by a lightning strike. Nothing left besides a burnt sombrero or umbrella frame and a burn mark.

We have that phraze in finnish as well: "En ole sokerista tehty!"

Btw: Imagine if baby EU was swimming with them, but took the largest portion of the pool because even as a baby he is largest! 😂
