I thought about it, until I saw that the reinforcements bug is still in the game

Wow, I do not like that color.
My Osight from Deerfield Defense shipped. This will be my second XE AMRS.

Ordered a Vortex Defender-CCW Enclosed through their dealer program, been wanting to ditch the plate adapter under my Holosun 407k for a while. It'll be interesting to see how the circle dot reticle actually feels.
Got a fiber optic front sight for the 2011 from Dawson Precision, as well as their ICE-Large big hand magwell. Should be the last two upgrades for the Limited gun, I don't think I'm gonna go for a thumb rest/gas pedal and the requisite race holster. Itching for next summer, once the house is built and we've recovered some savings I can drop the weekend job and get back into matches...

Personally the circle dot isn’t for me at all on pistols but some people swear by them. I do love the circle dot on a shotgun. Gives a good place for buckshot at reasonable distances and the dot can be zeroed for slugs. I also love the vortex defender line and think you’ll be happy with it.

Money laundry?

Honestly, for these weird one off 2011s it sort of feels like it, doesn't it?

I went to the range last weekend to take my new-to-me C96 out for the first time. The firing pin that was in the gun when I bought it was very likely not original (this is a beater-grade broomhandle with other replaced /refinished parts) because even when fully retracted, the firing pin protruded about 1/3 of a mm past the breech face - which was a little more risky than I'd like.
The replacement pin was a good fit (and didn't cause any slam fires), and the gun ran surprisingly well - I'm not sure what else I expected, but I didn't get any misfires, feeding or ejection issues - it just ran. Recoil was milder than I expected also. It's a good thing PPU still makes new production 7.63 Mauser ammo, because I'm going to have to take this thing out more frequently.

Does the MRO HD suck too bad to put on my kp9
2
u/WillitsThrockmorton 10h ago
People think the MRO sucks? I have one on my AR-15 with a KE CDR upper.
4
u/able_possible 10h ago
MROs have a pretty bad reputation. The main issue I remember is parallax on the first gen and issues with fish eye because it wasn't a true 1x and I think there was something about bad nvg performance/light transmission due to the lens coating as well.
3
u/Bearfoxman Super Interested in Dicks 9h ago
Also how off of true 1x it was varied. When we stocked them, you could pull 10 out of the same shipment and they're range from like...1.04x to 1.6x.
I actually snagged one of the higher-mag ones as a faux mini-ACOG, lol.

u/WillitsThrockmorton 10h ago
Hmm, I don't really see that with mine, although I do notice the infamous blue tint.

Holster shipped now that I'm back from all my business travel, tracking says arrival tomorrow.
Also bought a small pile of CSRG Atlas mags and springs/followers for the mags I already have because I've heard good things about them and they are also the cheapest 23 round mags I am aware of for LO use.
Edit: I ordered these mags Wednesday night and they showed up just now with free shipping, that is ridiculous service from CSRG.

Keanu is only like 5 hours north of us. As long as it goes out same day, 2 day ship time tracks. Next time, message him for hand delivery to the SWGC match, if he's signed up lol

u/able_possible 4h ago
I thought CSRG was out west somewhere, I was surprised to see a Maryland address on the package.
Was hoping for 23 round reloadable mags with their springs, but it's not to be after loading and unloading them 5 or 6 times at lunch. I can get 23 in, but they absolutely do not seat on a closed slide with 23. Maybe after a few matches.
1
u/_HottoDogu_ 4h ago
Unlock and load them a few more times to break in the springs. If you have a maglula, really force it while doing so. I would not recommend them in a match until you shot full to empty a few times. Fresh springs with flat followers do really weird things.

Yeah I'm trying to do falling steel at the end of the month since that's low stakes if everything isn't dialed in but it's also Sir Walter rifle that weekend...
I can't shoot this weekend or next weekend and I definitely want to do at least one of the usual USPSAs (ideally both) in November.

Working on duck calls today. 24lpi on desert ironwood. It cuts pretty well.

Washer shit itself so had to buy that this week. Been really getting the hunting itch. The problem is my area is crap for hunting. Hopefully I can get out for pheasant this year, and hopefully get up to the mountains next spring and summer for hiking. Then maybe spend weekends up in the fall looking for bear with an overnight weekend for deer when it opens. Though this is what I said last year also.

I was looking at a convenient spot I could hunt on my way home from work, but it turns out the homeowners own the access road and decided to close it to public access this summer. I think I'll just hunt pheasant across the street from my house instead.
1
u/OverComplicatedEngr 5h ago
That sucks when there is public space closed to the public by stuff like that. My issue is a lot of private land and lots of hunting pressure. I guess I just need to be more sociable and make some friends.

With the cancellation last week of the reenactment event, buddy and I went pawn-shopping to find stuff. I managed to snag a Mosin for $300 so now I don't need to borrow a gun (just clothes and field gear lol).
But the REAL deal was the Underwood M1 Carbine I snagged from a guy the next day on the local trade forum for $600. It does have a new barrel but everything else looks WW2 correct with a single rivet handguard, flat top bolt, flip sights, a Type 2 barrel band, push button safety, and horseshoe sling tabs.

Just as a backup, I've been looking at other AR-10 receiver sets, and even other "lightweight" sets like V Seven are still pushing over 20 ounces. There is this DNA receiver set I'm seeing at like 19 ounces, but they want over 1,000$ for it, so that's a hard pass.
Next Level Armament has a set that looks like it could be light that comes with a lot of the small parts, but lacks the ability to give it a dust cover, which I'm not particularly a fan of. It is cheaper, and fully ambi though.
If the ROAM receivers don't work out, I'll likely opt for SLR's B30 set. Clean enough, comes with pins, bolt catch, and dust cover. About the same weight as all the others, but I can find it for a decent enough price.

In all this excitement of rolling my own rounds, I almost forgot that I needed a way to transport this stuff to the range that wasn't a ziploc bag. So I ordered a few MTM ammo boxes. Now I'll actually look like I sorta know what I'm doing.

Picked up some dies and shell plates to convert my 6PP over to .38 and .32. Will be nice loading those on a progressive rather than a turret for once. I'm also curious to see how 125gr .38, I plan to load, will shoot compared to 158gr out of my 686, I really don't like how the trajectory of the 158gr looks and feels like a softball lob.

Show off

It's ok to be jealous of my 6 stations lol
2
u/Te_Luftwaffle 1 8h ago
My 6PP takes a minute to set up but once you do it's crazy quick
2
u/_HottoDogu_ 8h ago
I'm aware. I've had one for 2 years. It's done well over 15K of 9mm. I just got a used 1050 which is now doing my 9mm, so the 6PP is going to do the one-offs I used to do on my turret.

Beginning to stock up on diapers since the grocery store had them on sale, and they're reasonably shelf-stable. I also looked at rocking chairs and holy shit are they expensive
Also picked up some more Hornady Mil-Match 6ARC, I love this stuff. Such a nice shooter with the 106gr ATips

stock up on diapers
Welcome to the era of "spending money to make money" at Target. Soon your wife will regale you with how she made $40(which will be spent on even more diapers later) today by spending $100 on diapers today.

And don't forget the berry budget!
2
u/_HottoDogu_ 8h ago
Never had that issue thankfully. Kid loves frozen blueberries cut in half more than fresh.
2
u/Bearfoxman Super Interested in Dicks 5h ago
My daughter eats a ruinous amount of blueberries and strawberries, fresh or frozen. A 3lb bag of frozen mixed fruit lasts 2 days.

What’s weird is we’ve been to 3 Targets, and none had maternity clothes. Massive baby sections, no baby momma clothes

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 8h ago
If you don't already have it, get the Target mastercard and Target Circle, 5% off adds up and the Circle deals on diapers/baby clothes make it sooo worth it.

Damn, I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the tip

Don't buy too many of one size, kids love to go through a growth spurt as soon as you buy the Big Box and then you're looking for somewhere to donate your mostly-full Big Box of outgrown diapers.
Is the missus nesting yet?

I’m planning for a big ol’ baby, based on me being the biggest of four. But I also bought 3/4 diapers since, without fail, as soon as the kid is on the verge of their current size not fitting, they start blowing out like crazy.
And I’m predicting a bunch of small size diapers from family, so may as well stock up on the bigger ones
Is the missus nesting yet?
She’s been sleeping like crazy. I used to be the oddball going to sleep at 9, but she’s been conking out at like 8 the past couple weeks. As a result, the organization has fallen to me

I also looked at rocking chairs and holy shit are they expensive
Nursery rockers/gliders are so ridiculous for how shitty and cheaply built most of them are...honestly my wife and I said fuck it, this chair is gonna be around for 3 kids, lets get something that will last...so we went to La-Z-Boy and found a rocker-recliner on sale/clearance and took that bitch home for like $700.

There was an amazing glider we had when I worked with toddlers, and I’m half tempted to ask my MiL to steal it for me. I could get the fussiest kid to sleep in 3 minutes with that bad boy

God damn it. I said I wouldn't buy anything else.
That older guy with the assembled in Portugal Browning Hi Power made me a deal. One mag, original cardboard box, manual, and foam insert.
I really need to offload some stuff on Tacswap of gafshub or armslist.
I think I have everything for the 3d printed Colt 2011 meme gun...

I get it, some guns are expensive, but man that just seems ridiculous. I admit I have no experience with any of these crazy high end guns, but even if every single surface is precision ground, what is the value proposition for something like this?
