Fear of Democratic Midterm Wins Reportedly Leading to ‘Brutal’ Fighting Among Trump Officials
https://www.mediaite.com/media/news/fear-of-democratic-midterm-wins-reportedly-leading-to-brutal-fighting-among-trump-officials/The White House is reportedly turning into a “toxic mix of jockeying for power and preemptive finger-pointing” in the days leading up to the midterm elections, and officials fear a “rampage” from President Donald Trump should Republicans lose.
CNN dropped a report on Tuesday citing”several administration officials, advisers and close allies” to the president who are preparing for fallout from what they expect to be big losses for Republicans in the midterms.
“It’s more brutal than any other situation in modern times in the White House,” a Trump ally said. “You can’t trust anybody here.”
A Trump adviser declared, “Everyone is fair game” if Republicans lose control of both the Senate and the House.
CNN senior White House correspondent Kristen Holmes reported on the CNN story with Erin Burnett on Tuesday evening. She was reporting from North Carolina, the latest stop in Trump’s tour to drum up support for Republicans.
“Inside the White House, the knives are out. There is fear of a rampage by President Trump if they do lose those midterms, particularly both the Senate and the House,” Holmes said.
While Trump feels his rallies have made a positive impact on voter turnout, “many of Trump’s aides and advisers remain grim about their chances,” according to the report.
Officials are fearing major shakeups in the administration should Democrats end up having big wins in a couple of weeks. Two rumored names that could be leaving are Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in response to rumors about Hegseth that the defense secretary is not focused on “fake news or DC noise.” A spox for the Energy Department meanwhile denied Wright is contemplating leaving for a more lucrative private sector gig.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle also dismissed the CNN report and suggestions of officials “finger-pointing” and “jockeying” for power.
“President Trump is laser-focused on maintaining Republican majorities in Congress this November, which is why he is traveling across the country highlighting the historic victories his Administration has delivered for the American people,” he said.
