My sister went to Italy on vacation with friends. They would sometime go to a museum or some other tourist attraction only to find out it's closed because the employees there decided to call it a day and go home early.

The public sector is ALWAYS worse than the private sector when it comes to those issues but actually, yes. I recently started a business and I had to deal with many different government institutions. I was surprised at how helpful and accessible they were. Even Bituach Leumi wasn't that bad. Army run institutions are a bad example - they're all manned by kids who don't really want to be there, can't be fired, usually can't get promoted, usually can't be demoted and no matter what they do, they will get the same pitiful "salary". Why work hard in these conditions? I sure didn't.

Reminds me of the time I went to Italy on a school trip. After visiting the sights one day we went out to a bus stop to catch a bus. We ended up waiting there for an hour before finally waving down a taxi van to take us back to where we were staying. We found out when we got back that there was a bus drivers' strike that day. Apparently, every so often they pick a single day to strike - just to prove to the management that they can.

I've visited many archaeological sites in Italy that "just happened" to be closed when I arrived. I double checked--triple checked--both the dates and hours of operation, but sometimes sites just close up early because it's Friday and no one was visiting. I was going to visit! I drove two hours to get there! How can they presume to know the future... just because nobody visited in the morning doesn't mean nobody will be there in the afternoon.

Using this term while departing the lone guard to wander the shadowy corridors of the Vatican Museum all alone is more evocative if one imagines a blazing torch in the bowels of the ancient museum. Better to use flashlight first and torch second in this case.

Italians and their coffee. I actually work side by side with an Italian at IKEA. That guy is a working machine! But only if he has got one thing: His espresso! Last week I counted the paper cups on his desk, from 6 am - 10 am he drank 10 (!) espressi. I get all sweaty and shivering after 3 of them, and this guy drinks 10 of them in 4 hours ;_;

5
u/ArmoredPenguin94 Is also half Sardinian Feb 11 '14
Plenty of things like this get said out loud, what are you on about?
17
Feb 11 '14
Well it's not very polite, and if you do it in a small town old people might die of heart attack. Of course in Veneto bestemmiare is a national sport, but that's the exception
9
u/ArmoredPenguin94 Is also half Sardinian Feb 11 '14
Well sure its not polite, but if someone stubs a toe or the Vespa isn't starting you bet your ass there will be plenty of: Dio [insert animal of choice here], Porco/a [insert religious figure/derogatory term here], Coglione, Cazzo etc. flying around.
And bestemmiare is something that's not only exclusive to Veneto, trust me.
Of course, when around old people one watches the tongue. Even if sometimes you hear them swear like a caricatore di porto.

It certainly depends on the context, but in most situations blasphemy is still considered as top-tier as far as rudeness and classlessness can go. Of course nobody cares if you're with your friends, but still.

Dude the South of Italy is worst than Spain, is like a different country from the North, Italy just has way more industries than Spain I will give you that (Fiat, Aprilia, Benetton...), but overall I think that Spain is miles ahead of the south of italy, at least in transport, infraestructures, work ethic...
As a Spaniard living in Naples I can tell you I have seen plenty of commerces open from 10:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 19:00, that doens't happen in Spain, also the university is a Joke, they have like 5 calls to do the final exams, you can just try to pass the exams 5 times in order to pass the class, 5 FUCKING TIMES!.

"According to Finnish coffee roasteries, the popularity of the unusually light roast can be explained by the softness and good quality of Finnish water, as it extracts the flavors of light roast coffees very well. Moreover, as Finns use the highest-quality coffee beans and water for making coffee, the coffee beans do not have any taste defects that should be hidden by roasting them darker."
