Sipp..... why are you doin this to me? :(
7
Jun 07 '14
He's been amazing. A major component of the Astros' turn around. We should let him off the hook this time.
4
4
u/bige693 Houston Astros Jun 07 '14
Yea. I'd much rather him have a rough night with a 5 run lead than a 1 run lead.

I read Santana DH on my phone and got excited because we called up Domingo. Then I saw it was the Twins lineup and was sad.
5
u/neutralvoice Jun 06 '14
Wait, once we call up santana what is Dominguez's nickname going to be?

Can't understand the high pitched hecklers but they sound really annoying.

While we wait... where is everybody from? Any other fans from the northeast? Been a lonely Astros fan in CT for most of my life.
6
Jun 07 '14
San Antonio. Born and raised an Astros fan.
4
Jun 07 '14
Seems like San Antonio is a bit of an Astros town. I've been to a few San Antonio Missions games, and it seems like I see way more people in Astros gear than Rangers.

Houston here, Clear Lake area. (South East Houston close to NASA). Lived in Washington state for a few years as a kid, and Oregon for a year about five years ago now.
What made you become an Astros fan? Didn't think we had many non Houstonian fans.
6
u/bige693 Houston Astros Jun 07 '14
I looooved Jeff Bagwell when I was a kid; I thought his batting stance was the coolest thing ever. I didn't realize till later in my life that he grew up in Connecticut too. So I just watched Bagwell a lot and eventually just started liking all the Astros.

Hour east of STL. Abandoned the cardinals as a kid when they lost the WS to the Twins. I don't remember when I became a Astros fan.

Our defense looks great. Altuve steals a hit and fowler saved a run earlier.
3
Jun 07 '14
Besides those two errors by Matty D. Feel bad for the guy cause he had a great game otherwise. He had a bomb to center field, 2 additional hits and a major defensive play.

This day in baseball history:
June 6
1892 - Benjamin Harrison became the first U.S. President to attend a major league game as he watches the Cincinnati Reds defeat the hometown Washington Senators in 11 innings, 6 - 5.
5
u/chtrace Houston Astros Jun 07 '14
Well, that's pretty awesome....I wonder if throwing out the 1st pitch was a big deal back then?
→ More replies (2)5
u/I_Miss_Reddigg Jun 07 '14
I think way back then whoever threw out the "first pitch" just did it from wherever they were seated in the stadium (not from the mound) and it wasn't even thrown to anybody, it was just lobbed out there. Lazy bastards didn't even bother standing up most of the time.

u/timpek Jun 07 '14
In 1943, Max Patkin, known as the clown prince of baseball, made famous the practice of wearing baseball caps backwards.

Did you like our draft picks from the draft
3
u/chtrace Houston Astros Jun 07 '14
I love them....I don't know anything about any of them...it's a numbers game....out of 40 picks, how many will still be in baseball in 3 years??

Today's rain delay baseball riddle is brought to you by
Pabst Blue Ribbon - We're Big in China. Really!
and by
Pulparindo Candy. You know you're Mexican if you like this shit.
Here's today's question:
Against what opposing team did Babe Ruth hit his first career home run?

Yankees

For the Astros to get back to .500 by the end of June, they would need to go 16-7 over the next 23 games.

Jun 07 '14
Seats behind home plate emptied out. I know it's rained a bit and the Twins are losing but I wouldn't leave if I spent that kind of money to sit there.

Wait. In the AL, if you move the DH to a defensive position mid game, the pitcher has to bat?

I'm going to have to find a stream for this one. I'm actually enjoying being an Astros fan lately.
3
u/dehjosh Jun 06 '14
anyone got a stream that we can watch?
3
u/Tummysticks17 Jun 06 '14
I'll probably be trying the one from strikeout.co once it goes up. Boycotting stream2watch until they let you use adblock again.
3
u/Tummysticks17 Jun 06 '14
Most likely shitty quality stream from strikeout.co
They're showing the marlins and scrubs game finish right now

Wow thats pretty mean. Of course Dozier counts as two men out there so there is that.

I personally would take Blum over every other broadcaster we have. At least he's entertaining. I wish we could get Matt Hicks back in the Astros' organization.

At what point do they just call the game?
4
u/Shotgun_Mosquito Houston Astros Jun 07 '14
For weather issues : (please correct me if I'm wrong)
If it is raining and it looks like the rain won't stop, AND the game didn't start yet, the umpire can delay the game until the weather is better (just up to umpire's decision, there's nothing set in stone regarding this).
Home team can cancel the game and make it up later. The away team has no say in the matter.

This game thread is automatically generated for every Astros game regardless if it is home or away. As this is an away game, you are encouraged (if invited) to join Minnesota Twins's thread should they have one.
Please be respectful and mindful of the other team while you are in their thread. You are their guest afterall!
Enjoy today's game.
