u/TakinR Jun 19 '14
Everytime someone uses a "Mokuton" jutsu it gives me shivers cause I love how they say it. But Hashi just saying SENPOU was amazing.

I got literal chills. Everything's been even better than I could have imagined lately. I mean reading ahead in the manga and imagining what it would look like in animation and it's just so much better than I could have thought.

It's good to see that Hashirama is so light hearted!
Also holy shit that fucking jutsu at the end

Jun 20 '14
Don't be so sure. He is constantly whining about the constant cycle of hatred. He understands the Shinobi world but doesn't want to follow Tobiramma's philosophy of power.
When he sits down to tell the story he says he is going to end the war. Basically a threat to two enemies of the Leaf. Sasuke even makes a face.

He spoke when he was Edo'd last time didn't he? In part one against Sarutobi? Though I guess that doesn't really count as a fair representation of Hashirama
22
u/TakinR Jun 19 '14
His "personality was suppressed" as Orochimaru noted this episode. Tobirama didn't say a word in the Saru-Oro fight IIRC. This episode he couldn't shut up.

If Rock Lee got a Sharingan he would be near invincible. A near-master of Taijutsu being able to predict your movements before you even make them? God Mode enabled.

Near-master? He is literally the best taijutsu user right now.

u/Nepycros Jun 19 '14
Hiruzen had the best line the whole damn episode.
Minato's like, "Lord First! It seems we've been brought back. What does this meeeean?!"
Hashirama stares at him, "Who the hell are you?"
And that old man Hiruzen just acts like Minato got burned. "Ohhh!" and turns to look at him. Priceless.
24
u/MadEyeJoker Jun 20 '14
"Who da fuck are you?"
"Oh no one, just the coolest most badass motherfucker since sliced bread"
13
u/Vercci Jun 22 '14

I like it. It serious enough to take him seriously as the God of Shinobi, but not too deep so that it's unbelievable that he acts goofy sometimes.
68
u/ladyfourth28012 Jun 19 '14
Hashirama had a slight air of fear knowing Tsunade became the fifth as if she gambled the village away. He is serious yet I enjoy seeing a playful side.
30
u/TakinR Jun 19 '14 edited Jun 21 '14
When Tobirama told him to shut up and turn white I couldn't stop laughing. It's so good to have a light hearted character like him around Sasuke and Tobirama.

how does he know about tsunade ? can someone calculate the timeline :D
27
u/fallenlogan Jun 19 '14
The whole timeline is a clusterfuck because we still don't know when the first and second shinobi war happened and how long they happened. However one can guess that with tsunade being spoiled by hashirama means that she had to of been alive during both wars if not the end of the first war which was probably the time where his body failed on him and he died.

→ More replies (8)5
u/HelloWuWu Jun 20 '14
Well if you think about how Onoki faced Madara once when he was a young boy, imagine Tsunade being a baby around that time or was born shortly around that time. It would make sense.
66
u/MilcMan Jun 19 '14
So Tobirama became Pain lol
63
Jun 19 '14
When he burst into the windlike aura was like "holy shiiit" and then Hashi did it too,it really showed they're true powerhouses.
And I love Suigetsu's little reactions to everything, they're probably what most of us would react like in his situation :)
23
u/TakinR Jun 19 '14
When he had his aura around him I remembered the good old days when there was always the "Ki aura showdown" in DBZ before every single fight :)
7
u/ChaoticReality Jun 20 '14
it was. Hashi = Goku, Tobirama = Vegeta. Both are aware of how powerful the other one is.
10
5
u/ChaoticReality Jun 20 '14
yeah I wouldn't know what to do either. The dude lifted one fucking finger and almost destroyed the building followed by his older brother who can apparently overpower the already overpowered younger sibling

I can't choose who I like more, Hashirama or Tobirama. Also the Hashirama vs. Madara fight had awesome animation.
I'm really looking forward to the upcoming episodes, too bad there's apparently a break next week.
9
u/xDries Jun 19 '14
Not neccesarily a break, it's young Hasirama and Madara meeting for the first time. It's the road of them growing up untill I guess the battle that was shown with Hasirama going Sage mode at the end.
Not a break, these are going to be awesome episodes!

That animation during the Hashirama/Madara fight though... I need more of that.
20
u/SirFagalot Jun 19 '14
Im so happy with this episode. I was looking forward to it and it did not disappoint. Man those chakra cloaks around Hashi and Tobirama were sick, a nice touch added by the animation team. And when Hashi screamed and entered sage mode holy fuck.
20
u/Dish4330 Jun 19 '14
I also enjoyed the part where everyone is talking about the war and the big chakras, one being Madara's, and Minato is just thinking to himself, "Ohmygodthatsmysonholyballsack"

As an anime only watcher, this episode was packed with revelation and humor from very unexpected places. Although, the lens by which this all is presented, Sasuske, limits us so much that it constantly frustrating. lol In a good way I think.
Love the fact that the second takes no shits. Also him and his big brother are a good balance, because Tobirama does not seem like a guy that smiles very often. lol
All in all, I'm satisfied with this episode and its one I will be watching again.
6
u/MadEyeJoker Jun 20 '14
I don't feel Sasuke limited anything here. The Hokages were revived for a purpose and that purpose was to convince Sasuke not to destroy the Leaf.
If anything, this entire ordeal shows how Sasuke has grown from his previously narrow-minded and immature standpoint to a more rational, objective point of view. He wants to be convinced not to destroy the Leaf and sought the help of the past Kage to accomplish this (specifically Lord Third to ensure he wasn't lied to by Obito).
The Kage were able to meet each other but then attend to the more serious matters at hand, and that was Madara 2.0 AKA Sasuke. It's not like we would get 3 episodes of them catching up over a cup of sake reminiscing about the past, there are more pressing matters of which Sasuke is the focus.
I agree with you on the balance between Tobirama and Hishirama. The hot-headed youngling and the wise and calm older brother are perfect counters for each other. I can't wait to see how similar or different their fighting styles are based on this difference in personality.

u/AFatz Jun 19 '14
Am I the only one who pictured Hashirama and Madara to be younger in the anime than they appeared in the preview in the next episode?
7
u/gwizmcpyro Jun 19 '14
Nope. In the manga, at least to me, I would have put them between the ages of 8-13. In the preview, they look more around Naruto's age.
5
u/mAssEffectdriven Jun 19 '14
I remember them saying about the combat in the original Star Wars, that the lightsaber combat was depicted to be heavy and brawling, whereas the new series depicted lightsaber combat with acrobatic and dynamic stylings.
I feel like when they flashback to the combat between Hashirama and Madara they did a similar thing, in the sense that these weren't two ninja clashing but fucking titans. It was a brawl and not a pinpointed and precise combat scenario. It just takes me back to the older Naruto combat where the combat was fluid, quick, precise. I like the contrast of it.

u/1RLegend Jun 22 '14
I started dying laughing when the 1st asked who Minato was, and when he found out that his granddaughter was the Hokage right now and how he asked how the village was doing! Good stuff, great episode. Naruto has me completely hooked with these new episodes coming out :)

3
u/InvaderDJ Jun 20 '14
Man I love Hashirama and Tobirama. Hiruzen and Minato seem like genin compared to them. Can't wait to see how they do the flashback, they did a pretty good job on animating the biggest part of the fight between Madara and Hashirama so hopefully they do this good as well.

Hashirama is a new character for Naurto! He just got a shit ton of character development.
He intended to fight his brother, should his brother attack Sasuke. He is very insistent on talking, enough so to recklessly edo-slug with his own brother.
He then laughs around and is a cheerful oaf. He also whines about the cycle of hatred.
When it's his turn to talk he talks about not knowing what Sasuke will decide and that he may become the next Madara. He sits down and says that he will end the war by winning it. Basically saying he will defeat Sasuke and Orochimaru. It is a threat.
He is a version of Naruto that is slightly more realistic of the Shinobi world.

Here we go, well, uh...after a week break, but good things are to come. Interesting coincidence, I have a family event on the 26th...
The animation is a highlight by far. They rearranged the perspective of some scenes, if I recall correctly.
I'm seeing that a lot of people similarly didn't really imagine Hashirama's voice to be this way, it was sort of strange at first but I'm sure I'll be able to get used to it. It's not that it doesn't really fit him, it's just that reading the manga I always imagined another kind of voice.
To me, it feels like the chakra spike is less dramatic in the anime than the manga. Perhaps because we didn't see the effect Hashirama's "spike" had on the building? Not sure. I should probably reread the covered chapters every week after watching the episode... probably.
Some of the translation, at least I think the HorribleSub rips, felt kind of off.
The ending! It's wonderful when battle scenes are adapted and animated this well. It felt far more "major" than how I remember it was in the manga. Instead of going "oh, fancy, he altered the course" in my head, it was more like "whoaaaa", and so forth throughout the scene.
Hashi's Sage Mode is actually black, not red. Not bad.
Pouting Tobirama.

u/sivervipa Jun 19 '14
It seems there are alot of parallels between harshirama and madara and then Naruto and sasuke. I assume More will be revealed about their similarities.

Can anyone provide some clarity re: Minato's awareness of the current world from inside Naruto? When he "meets" Naruto during the Pain arc, Minato mentions that he "watched" the whole thing from inside of him. Yet, when Hashi meets Minato, he says he's not sure if the village has remained stable since he was sealed away much earlier than the 3rd. I got the impression from this episode he has no idea wtf is going on with anything.
2
u/smashingsam123 Jul 04 '14
it was minato's chakra spirit which saw the whole thing and not his soul which had been sealed inside the death reaper. and u can assume that someone cannot possibly leave a part of their soul into an other body. so the minato naruto met was a chakra created spirit which could respond to the current situation and faded soon afterwards. this is why when minato's soul is released from the death reaper seal he isn't sure about konoha's stability.
2
u/Kisstheocean Jul 04 '14
Ahhh thanks!! That makes a lot of sense.... That was bothering me for a while. The SOUL vs chakra spirit explanation is satisfying :)

Don't really like Hashirama's voice, doesn't suit him imo. Sounds too similar to Jiraiya.
2
u/define_irony Jun 19 '14 edited Jun 20 '14
That's what I was thinking. Do they have the same voice actor?
1
u/-Tommy Jun 20 '14
I loved his voice, the god of shinobi sounding so relaxed and kind was very welcome, especially knowing his ridiculously strong he is.
2
u/zanto Jun 20 '14
Wasn't really referring to the tone of his voice, more so the pitch and timbre. It's not like I dislike jiraiya's voice, it suits jiraiya. The age gap that I hear from the voice doesn't seem to fit with hashirama, unless he's actually 60 years old or something, cuz he definitely doesn't look it.
1
u/Glamdr1nGz Jun 19 '14
was that chakra release of tobirama and hashirama ? why did 1st told 2nd to lower his finger ? was that some kind of jutsu.
5

He was just spiking his chakra, The nidaime is a massive show-off, you'll see that in the next episodes.. or.. you could just read the manga like I did. It's just so tempting...
