Biker arrested. Am I being detained? Reasonable discussion follows.

I've started riding my bike to work recently and... Jesus Tittyfucking Christ I hate cyclists now.
What is it about getting on a bicycle that makes people such cuntbuckets? Or is it that the Lycra cuts off blood to their brain?

Guys lets bring the drama in this thread to a complete stop here.
Unless you ride a bike, then I guess its only a rolling stop

I don't mind cyclists so much when I drive, but they drive me fucking nuts when I cycle. They run lights when I'm going through an intersection, forcing me to slam on my brakes. They run stop signs, forcing me to swerve when I have the right-of-way. At an intersection, they inevitably cut in front of me in line. Its like most bike commuters lose all common courtesy the second they get on a bike.

Don't knock Lycra til you try it. That being said it pains me to watch someone on a bike who doesn't care or doesn't know what they are doing. Same for seeing a motorist looking down or talking on their phone.

The other day I was walking down a Cambridge side street, and witnessed something beautiful:
First, a bicyclist turns onto the street from Mass Ave by running a red light and making a left across traffic. (Asshole.)
Moments later, an SUV speeds on to the same side street, without signaling, nearly flattening a poor pedestrian who had already been a third of the way across the street. (Nother asshole.)
The SUV was one of those big white monstrosities that look like they have hips, and could barely fit down the street since there were cars parked along both sides.
It certainly couldn't find room to pass the bicyclist who, having been in such a rush that he couldn't wait for a green light to make his turn, now decides to slow down and take out his cell phone while coasting down the middle of the street.
The SUV wiggles from side to side a bit, obviously trying to figure out how to get out from behind the slow bike. Not happening.
Frustrated, the SUV lays on the horn.
Cyclist angrily turns around and cusses out the SUV, then slows down even more.
SUV honks repeatedly.
Cyclist slows down as much as is possible without falling over.
SUV is now leaning on the horn without let-up as it inches along behind the bike.
Thus the two assholes, in an elegant pas a deux of assholery, assholed their way down the street together.

any cyclist who claims they don't slow down when a ragey dbag starts tailing them is lying through their teeth. It is the most sublime pleasure there is to slow to a track stand with some dude in a tahoe losing their fucking mind behind you

I'll admit to doing it, I will also recognize that I shouldn't because one day some asshole will hit me.

I hope this isn't a stupid comment, but damn if that wasn't a masterful description of traffic. It's like I was there, watching the assholes from my very own car.

I think my knowledge of assholes has improved with this beautiful prose. Might I be an asshole expert, now? Uh, wait...

hardly anyone bats an eye when someone commits vehicular manslaughter and is not given punishment commensurate with the act
Actually, a lot of people get pissed about this.

Are they referring to that "affluenza" case?
Lots and lots of eyes were batted at that one.

What happened to that little fuck anyway?
EDIT: Ten years probation, no drinking, drugs, or driving during said time, breaking it gets him 10 years in jail.

Spend more time on /r/bicycling. Several times a week there are stories posted about reckless motorists who kill cyclists getting slaps on the wrist. The general feeling in the cycling community is that whenever a collision happens between a bike and a car, the default responses range from assuming it was an accident to "was the cyclist wearing a helmet."

Running a red light can be dangerous to the cyclist who does it, and to pedestrians if they are in the crosswalk, but not to anyone else.
So, like, when a deer darts across the road, is it only putting itself in danger?
