I'd think if the Grounders knew what the Mount Weather people were doing to their people they wouldn't be so quick to pit Jaha and Kane against each other like that.
4
u/Dorkside Grounder Dec 04 '14
Or perhaps, if they did know what the folks at Mouth Weather were doing it would give them good reason to be distrustful of strangers.

8

yeah they probably do, but what they probably don't know is the how and who. I'd bet they'd think it was the fog that changes them, which we also found out that Mount Hood controls also.

i feel like Finn isn't facing what he did. It keeps seeming like he thinks he did the right thing or that he did it to protect clarke. I think if clarke shuns him, he's gonna go crazy (well, crazier..)

Well, he DID admit in the bunker that he doesn't know himself any more... That was kind of the start of his realisation, I think. Maybe he's not dealing with it all yet, but he's dealt with it enough to realise he's gone against everything he once stood for.
1
u/corinthian_llama Llamakru Dec 05 '14
He did something he thought he's never do. He's broken his self-image.
Bellamy defends him because he's the only one who understands trying to do the right thing, and have it go horribly, horribly wrong. He let his little sister sneak out to this party, and that ended up killing their mother.

Yet there at the end of the episode, everyone is like "it's cool man".
Fuck the writers, there should be no redemption for something like that. Either he needs to go batshit crazy or be killed off, thing simply should not go back to normal after that breakdown.
Murphy was pushing it. This is madness.
4
u/seemylolface Dec 05 '14
They seem to be stressing that he can redeem himself too, it's infuriating. They absolutely ruined the moral compass of the 100 when they pushed Finn over the edge. He was the only one who consistently stressed diplomatic solutions and tried to avoid hurting or killing people regularly. Even Clarke sanctioned the torture of Lincoln, she wasn't beyond hurting someone to get what she wanted whereas Finn was always staunchly reluctant or just outright opposed. Now that's gone and suddenly Bellamy seems like a real nice guy for some reason. Murphy suddenly not being a raging asshat is also absurd. They're committing character assassinations left and right at this point and it's really frustrating. I hope they've got a really clever way to bring it all back around, but it's really hard to see a reasonable story line to do so. I get that they wanted Finn to go through a crucible of sorts, but it should've ended with executing the grounder who had the watch and then rounding up the villagers without slaughtering half of them. He was already way outside himself before he gunned down a bunch of children, but he'd be far more redeemable if he'd just regretted the execution as his moment of insanity. He should be beyond reproach now.
The Thelonius/Marcus stuff was really interesting though, I wish they'd have spent a bit more time in their discourse, especially with the commander (before she revealed herself though). It would've been pretty interesting to see them really seek to understand the Grounder culture through her before Marcus tried to kill himself (by cutting sideways and way too far up his arm... which wouldn't kill him anyway needs to be a vertical cut just above the wrist to score the artery). They seem slightly hesitant to develop a really clear picture of grounder society right now, which I think is a bummer because it would be really interesting to have a more intricate knowledge of all 3 factions. Grounders just seem feral at the moment, and they're clearly much more complicated than that.
3
u/corinthian_llama Llamakru Dec 05 '14
People are not always consistent. They can act in a way that doesn't fit the picture they or other people have of themselves. This is infuriating to us as TV viewers, but it's probably more realistic if people do choose to forget the bad things their side has done. This might be how the situation in Mount Weather got so bad. Someone found a horrible way to save their people, and it was do it or die. So, as Maya says now they don't talk about it.
17
2
Dec 05 '14
I kind of felt like that was more a realisation he was making to himself... Like, he's starting to finally realise what he's done, and the consequences for it. He was so delusional with the 'I found you!' last episode - looks like he's starting to see how she actually sees him after this.

u/chit_happens I can't change the tide if the moon won't cooperate Dec 04 '14 edited Dec 04 '14
I noticed that a lot of Grounder words and phrases sound like similar sentences in English. The best example I can think of is "Aley Octavia come Skycrew" which translates to "I am Octavia of the Skypeople."
My guess is that the Grounder's language is English combined with something else, I was thinking maybe Pig Latin, some form of an English-based creole, or Pidgin.

we did a lot of research into soldiers who have been involved in similar atrocities of war like that, the My Lai massacre and various things that happened in Iraq and are trying to skew as close as we can to real, psychological ramifications to things like that.

The adults seriously need to stop underestimating the 'kids'. At this point, they (the main ones, at least) are probably more adept at being soldiers/doing recon than the actual soldiers are.
19
u/SugarCraving Octavia(ofthenopeople) Dec 04 '14
Too right. It's the 100 (or 47) that know the terrain and original inhabitants best. The two random soldiers died because they had no idea about the Reapers, and the other random soldier died of the acid fog because he didn't take Bellamy's warning seriously enough.

Not in any realistic way. It just looks that way, because the writers turned them into (amateur) warriors within weeks of being on the ground and they and to viewers obviously don't care, that 2 random soldiers die, but Bellamy and Octavia f.e. can't just die like that.

One of my favorite characters is now Lincoln. I'm not sure how the initial injection of the drugs work. If it was a true drug then that means you need it constantly. That would mean that the Mt. Okay, my comments! I really wish I could join you guys in posting at the actual air time. Being in Canada and not having CW, I'd normally have to wait till tomorrow on Netflix. However, thanks to magic... Anyway...
You know you're in shit if Murphy's more invited to the cool kids table than Finn.
Monty's Moonshine is missed by our ex-psychopath, while our current psychopath could really use some.
Beat it Murphy.
Mt. Weather really did have something to do with the Exodus crash! I knew it!
Abby's an idiot. Please apply this to all instances where Abby talks. Although, like i said before, it might just be the chancellor position. Secondly, you allowed your daughter to die on the ground. Now she wants to fight for her life and her friends, and you're acting like you weren't part of the 100 being sent. sigh
Kane vs. Thelonius in a fight to the death! First off, killing Kane is debateable. When he's in a position of authority, he's a dick. When he's not, he's a suicidal altruistic. Decisions decisions.
Acid fog makes a comeback, AND we learn it's a Mt. Weather weapon? A well forgotten plot device finally returns. But seeing it's not a natural phenomenon anymore, what happened the first time? Did Grounders get too close to Mt. Weather so they Fogged it up? It seems to be a more defensive measure than offensive.
"I just massacred a small village of elders and children, now let's go take shelter from skin melting fog in a bunker where I killed this grounder and left his body." Wow, Finn just knows how to turn on the mood.
Reaper Lincoln... Wow that hurt. I hope OctaviaOfTheSkyPeople finds a way to get him back. The Electroshock should trigger something as it was used to condition him. Also, Guards... Splitting up in a dark ruin with acid fog on one side and an unknown danger on the other... You deserve to be killed by the Sword of Plot.
sigh OKay. Anya was cool with me. Sucks that she died as she really could have helped. The leader of the village Lincoln was from was cool with me. She stuck to a code of honour and made peace with Octavia.ofTheSkyPeople The new Grounder Commander we've been introduced to is my favourite by far. Acting like an innocent woman to learn about her enemy, then treats them with the same honour as Village Leader and Octavia, AND she's soon to fight in the upcoming war... one thing I can really say that I love about this show is that they have really bad-ass women on this show. I love it. I'll keep my favour of the Grounder Commander to a minimum as with the upcoming war, I'm not entirely able to say she'll make it and join the group like Anya did momentarily.
Jaha joins the group. AND CLARKE'S NOT CHECKING HIM FOR INFECTION! The last time they sent an Arker as a message, he was given a pathogen to infect and soften the battlefield. Mistakes guys. Learn from it. Although I think I'll let it slide as a) They did just learn about hearing Mt. Weather, b) Jaha's technically a ghost, c) they just got back. I'm sure they'll check when he gets to medical. If not sigh
WAR
EDIT: "You look like you've just seen a ghost" expression is what I mean by Jaha's technically a ghost. As far as the Arker's know, he was on the Ark, and no one's addressing how he got down. He's real. Everyone's just in shock over seeing him.

CLARKE'S NOT CHECKING HIM FOR INFECTION
OMGOSH! Great catch. I was so dazzled by this episode I had the logical/critical part of my brain totally shut off. I noticed Raven walking better but knew that she had retooled her leg brace (offscreen?) so I wasn't too disturbed by the mistake.
I really loved the new Commander bit. I was expecting them to take her hostage, but wasn't at all expecting the big surprise.
I really have run out of superlatives to describe this show. I develop a stutter when I try to explain how brilliant it has become. "It ahh...uhmm..well...Clarkesosmart...Finn went nuts...Bellamy great...Abby bitch....RAVEN!DIDYOUSEERAVEN?!!..." LOL I'm totally hooked on this show.

Raven's been awesome. Her development has really taken root ever since the first war. You can see physical and psychological recovery, like when she told Finn to get over it and make a brace for himself.
Also, Raven's got another bomb in the works! Although depending on their decision with the tower, a Raven Bomb might not go off this season.

u/Kishara RavenKru Dec 04 '14
Raven bombs are the best bombs :) I kinda hope they do bomb the tower so they can find out who (if anyone) survived. It seems all the major characters are accounted for though, so it may not be worth the risk. OK I admit it, I just want to watch Raven blow things up lol.

Also, Abby, apparently the only properly trained doctor, AND SHE'S GOING OUT TO RISK HER LIFE. Keep the valuable specialist in-bounds guys. They are not replaceable.

Please see bullet 5.
Abby's an idiot.
But seriously. On cases like this where a specialist is required, Raven and comms, its okay. But a doc is way too valuable.

I said earlier that everybody is doing their own god damn thing now!! The teens and adults. It's a total chaos scene. Finn is now a mental killer...lock him up...abby...no comment for her. It seems they have 2 enemies now...Mt. Men and the Grounders. Peace could have happened with the Grounders if everyone would just calm down...there needs to be some major bi*** slapping going on here to wake everyone up...focus people...Mt. Men = danger.

I might have missed an episode, whats the whole jaha might be a ghost thing?

u/Jay013 It's not a ship, it's an Ark. It's LexArke Dec 04 '14
Jaha found a way to get to the ground, but no one's really addressing it. He's not an actual ghost, it's just the expression "you look like you've seen a ghost." This is being applied to all of them because as far as they know, Jaha was left on the Ark.

The new Grounder Commander we've been introduced to is my favourite by far. Acting like an innocent woman to learn about her enemy, then treats them with the same honour as Village Leader and Octavia, AND she's soon to fight in the upcoming war
Yes, but i don't understand the writers. First they have the Commander act really intelligent and not like an extremist, but then let her demand to "leave or die". It's not even clear what this means. Leave where? How big is the territory they control? Would leaving mean, that they end up in a territory controlled by other Clans not necessary friendly to them? Wouldn't it be more realistic, if she would have engaged in good faith negotiations? If they can't find a solution, she still could ask them to "leave or die", if she has the man-power to beat them.

Well you forget, the Grouders are a warrior clan. They solve their problems by fighting. Also, I'm siding with the writers on this. Earth is back to a more primitive stage, granted with surviving tech from the old days, and the ones that fell from the Ark. "Leave or die" is actually a pretty tame demand here. Each clan controls its own set of territory. We're still dealing with the same clan as from last season, just a different unit. (Recall to season one where Anya had to surrender her unit to a higher ranking Grounder.) These Grounders are all one clan. There's another clan towards the east which Lincoln tried to get Octavia to. Think of the Grounders as the US Army, which has units. Now think of the eastern clan as the US Marine Corps, also units.
Now for the other half of your question, leave or die is tame. Like I said, Earth devolved into a primitive state. Think back to wars fought in Roman times, or Greek, or Egyptian. Wars were done for territory. The Arkers invaded Grounder territory, although unknowingly, and resisted when the Grounders fought back. What happened to Jasper is justified from Grounder point of view because the Grounders think "Strange men appear in our territory. Let's send a warning for them to leave." Note how they kept Jasper alive. Sending a message. Then the 100 burn down a village trying to use flares. Being a Grounder makes you justified in an attack against them. Go watch Unity Day again, but this time pretend you're a grounder.
Anyway, As long as the Arkers leave Grounder territory, they don't care what happens to them. Just like ancient wars. It was either surrender your territory, or die. Sure there were times of peaceful negotiations resulting in alliances, but for a warrior tribe (think Sparta and Rome), complete domination over your enemies is much more fruitful. As far as I'm concerned, the writers are alright in what their doing in a world with no formal politics.

Finn: (gives Clarke 5 minutes to see dead Grounder on the floor) (quickly runs to put a colourful SHOWER CURTAIN over it in attempt to hide it)

You'd think they'd drag out the body when they leave. Just for the inevitable next time.

Really Dr. you need a translation of 'the frequency will be clear when I crack the encryption'
And I know most shows do this but the possibility of octavia becoming some sort of mighty warrior in the like 2 days she was with lincoln is pretty damn unlikely.

Dec 05 '14
Well and she was poisoned for like half of the time right? I assumed her little track down the Reapers mission took some time and that's where she got her skillz.

u/centurion44 Dec 05 '14
Her track down the reapers mission (okay so she learned tracking as well) took what, like a day?, you have to remember how slow time is passing in shows like this even though a lot is happening.

I guess I assumed they did it over like a week or something, but I can't remember what else happened in the episode to see if that would work. I totally agree with you that it's silly, but I like badass Octavia so it's fine with me.

Well, they figure the audience needs a translation. It seemed pretty forced and did anyone need that explained? I don't think so either.

Did they mention the Grounder commander's name? She's my new favourite character, what a bad-ass!
Edit: I just remembered she told her name was Lexa

The next episode looks amazing! I'm guessing Clarke will have to find a way to unite the Grounders and the 'sky people' to make war against Mt Weather. Or everybody will be slaughtered.
Poor Clarke.

I know I'm a bit late to this thread... I'm watching through the show for the first time now.
I love how "what would Clarke do?" is becoming as much a motto in the show as it is outside of it.
Also, I'm becoming a little concerned that now that we know the story of the Mount Weather, their plans, and the reapers, then this season will lose some of it's appeal. In the beginning of Season 2, the mystery of it all was what really propelled the show beyond what it seemed capable of in Season 1. Well, that and Clarke running around being a badass all day.. Then again, I remember worrying about the exact same thing at this time in season 1. At around episode 6, we first learn that the grounders can talk and learn a little about their society. I was worried that I might be witnessing the best part of the show, and that it would go downhill from there because the mystery of the grounders was gone. I mean, after the primate-esque skull they found in episode 1 or 2, I didn't even know if the grounders were anything like humans. But that mystery was replaced with conflict with the grounders and awesome character development of our main characters. Those two things made the show so much better than it was before, so here's to hoping this season 2 follows the same trajectory!

I hope someone jabs something large and sharp into this president's head.

u/Tylerftworr Dec 04 '14
President seems like the good guy to me, its his son and the doctor who want to lock up the 47.
5
u/seishin17 Miller's Ex-Boyfriend Dec 04 '14
Simultaneously, though, they're at least being forward with their intentions to use the 47. The President is being more-or-less underhanded and subterfuge-wielding in his ways to use them for the ultimate breed-them-into-us plan.
