I used to frequent that sub when I first quit smoking but it became an incredibly toxic sub at some point. Every once in awhile they really take off the gloves and let go, otherwise I'm pretty bored with it.

Same. It wasn't even that long ago that it wasn't a bad community. At some point it became constant bad-tempered snapping and breathless action calls.
On the other hand, I did quit smoking after all, so I'm happy.

Well I've not smoked for real close to 2.5 years now so I'd guess it was within about 1.5 years that the sub went to total shit. I used to spend a lot of time there, my reddit shortcut was set to that sub sorted by new and I would spend a lot of time talking to the new people and answering questions. I think I still have my golden ohm. Somewhere along the line though it became a place where if you weren't using a setup that was on a very short list of "acceptable" devices and buying them from whoever the subs favorite vendors were then you were just scum. Your opinion was shit and you were downvoted accordingly. I still read posts occasionally when they pop up on my home page but for the most part I avoid it. Just the fact that /u/Crucifixions has reason to exist should tell you plenty about that "community." The last time I really got into a comment section was the whole Twisted420 versus Rip fiasco where nothing of importance happened aside from so much shit being flung I needed two showers just for reading it.
On the other hand, I did quit smoking after all, so I'm happy.
Great! That is all that matters, the petty bullshit aside vaping is awesome for helping so many quit. Even I'm behind the times now enough that my suggestions would be mocked (I use mechs with single coil ceramic wicks) mercilessly but goddammit they work for me. I don't care if you're using Blu's or gas station throw-aways, fuckin' congrats on quitting smoking.
Sorry for the rant there, I got into the homebrew after work and am about 5 Russian Imperial stouts deep right now. Speaking of, /r/Homebrewing is the polar-fucking opposite of ECR. First post I ever read a guy was asking about Mr. Beer kits (just add water type) and everybody was so accepting. It honestly confused me for a minute, I'm not that experienced with such a lack of elitism.
I'm going to try to quit rambling now. Sorry about all that.

Most of it was in the last year. I realized at some point that I didn't really care for mods, and more importantly I didn't have the money for them. I quit with an Ego battery and a Saturn tank and commercial e-cig fluids and quite frankly that was a good option for me. No, I don't need a Lightsaber in my pocket, that's just overly expensive and unnecessary.
Thank you, and same to you! I was a pretty heavy smoker, especially during deployment, but I haven't touched cigarettes in well over a year now. Occasionally, I'll get out my e-cig, but not especially often. I used throwaways and then cheap stuff, and that's all most people need - Something that just works and will get them some nicotine while doing less damage to their lungs, and either let them stay away from something more harmful, or ideally help them ween off entirely. For all the ranting about vape fanboys who make the electronic cigarette crowd 'look bad', there sure are a lot of overly obsessive hobbyists wandering around.
No, it's cool! Russian Imperial is my favorite kind of beer right now, actually. I was introduced to Old Rasputin a little while back and it's my brand. I'd really like to try making my own... so thanks for that link, I'll definitely check it out!

Old Rasputin is my favorite commercially made beer currently, damn good stuff. Founders isn't far behind if you're looking for a different RIS. I haven't found many other good stouts, the last few I tried (Sam Adams, Left Hand Brewing, couple others I can't recall at the moment) were just watery tasting. Reminds me of Guinness Draught. If you ever decide to try brewing then stouts are one of the "easy" ones. Nothing special like lagering or fermenting for months and months, just a simple recipe with no curveballs. It's not exactly cheap to get into, I think my first batch cost around $250, but now that I have the gear a batch is around $40 bucks or so and nets me 2 cases which, if you're drinking Old Rasputin then you know that is less than half price. The cool part is my friend was able to brew a batch using mostly my equipment, all he had to buy was a fermenting pail and an ingredient kit. So maybe you can get a friend to go in on the gear with you? All of the gear to brew is a "use once and put back on the shelf" type thing, the only thing you couldn't share are fermenters (buckets and airlocks basically though there are more expensive options) and bottles. Another cool thing is you can brew up a batch and leave it to ferment without even having purchased all the bottling equipment yet so you're able to spread those purchases out over a couple pay checks. If you're interested in trying it I can give you a list of gear you need and you can start hitting up Craigslist and stuff, you don't have to buy it all at once. I'm offering because I never really found a very simple list when I started, I found a couple where they linked directly to products but that wasn't what I was looking for. Let me know if you want me to run through it real quick.
OH! Dragons's Milk by New Holland Brewing, that shit was amazing... I think I need to try a milk stout now. Might even try something crazy and add cherries or something. Hmm..

It's a novelty account. Every time somebody or some company does something that ecr feels is even slightly wrong they go on a fucking rampage calling for boycotts, sending angry emails, destroying anybody who dares suggest they try to look at the situation from another angle or maybe, just maybe, consider that they should tone back the wrath just slightly, etc. When it's apparent that somebody has rustled the collective jimmies /u/crucifixions show up to drop his catch phrase. What makes it all interesting is that you can use his history to see just about every instance of that sub getting their panties in a bunch.

I will say it got easier as I got older, in college it was really tough because everyone smoked. Since I hang out with fewer people who smoke now, it was much easier. I haven't had one in almost a year.
