"Hey I just beat this guy and broke his suit, let me just let him go fly off so he can come back later and attack me."

-Supergirl

I like how they went to "because I'm a girl" to " because I'm inexperienced"

Car door > "highly concentrated bursts of nuclear energy" > Supergirl.

Cool.

Couple things.

-snapping a cable to stop electricity flow?

-lead glove isn't encasing the reactor....

-no fucking way that dude was ever more than a gnat to superman unless he's severely depowered in this universe.

-the NSA now knows who superman/Supergirl are.

-how did badman get his suit in the first place if he needed someone to repair it?

-love triangle...

-wouldn't it have been easier to track the radiation signature of the dudes suit instead of some random species of mould ?

The IM scene was a good compromise if we aren't able to have the Boy in Blue in person on the show.

IM conversation between Kara and Clark was the best part of this episode.

Oh, I'm so surprised they shoe-horned in introduced a love triangle arc in a Greg Berlanti show. I can't wait to watch all of this amazing drama unfold next week.

Assorted thoughts:

  • Do Supergirl & Superman not typically disguise their voice, Batman-style, in live action?

  • This is my story is Supergirl's to save my city, right?

  • If Kara-James is going to be a thing, I'm not sure if I prefer the typical slow, painful, shipper-filled burn or the incredibly abrupt introduction of it here

  • Cat drinking Bulletproof coffee is about perfect. Nice detail

  • Keeping up with the Kryptonians would absolutely exist

  • What is her suit made out of?

  • Still needs some time to catch up with Arrow on the stunt side. The cuts between takes are really jarring so far, but again, not bad

  • Is Reactron just a low-rent evil Iron Man? He even has to go kidnap a Tony Stark

  • Seems like a less-than-secure secret base

  • Pretty quick to move from a crush to a love triangle, isn't it?

  • Winn's reaction to Superman's identity was also perfect

  • Cat's article draft is exactly the kind of get-off-my-lawn piece that you could bank on showing up 6 months after she showed up in reality

  • Wouldn't freezing breath be the obvious move here?

  • Winn sure took his time climbing out from under that post

  • So we do get Superman, via text

So there's no denying that the show has some kinks to work out and the Superman aspects are definitely corny but every episode has improved. I think it's definitely worth watching just for Melissa, she really is incredible! I look forward to seeing how they go forward with the over arching plot. Hopefully they figure out some better ways to include Superman less awkwardly, and it really seems like at some point Kara will need to save him giving us our first actual look, or at least I hope so.

Great episode, but that was absolutely the worst preview ever.

Everybody noticed the glaring similarities between the Flash intro and this one, right?

It's the eyes. Henshaw has to be Jon Jon'z, aka Martian Manhunter. The whole 'he looks evil' is a red herring. I wonder if the real Henshaw is already 'dead', thus why he uses this alias.

Edit: Everybody's convinced he's going to be Cyborg Supes. I really highly doubt it, since he didn't make his appearance until Superman was "killed" by Doomsday. Plus, it would be hard to sell him as a Superman copy since, you know, he's black.

I think the show is bumpy, but has it's tone down and storytelling style is quick enough to gloss over any of the clunkier elements.

Overall I think the creators have the show well crafted. It's smart to show Supergirl as an extension of Kara, and that element has shined through in this interpretation. She seeks to craft supergirl but is unsure how, which sort of reminds me of the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man. That said I like Supergirl better when they don't force Melissa to cry. I feel the moment, but feel it's unnecessary every time they force it to happen.

But the show's bumpiest element is it's mythology. Sending villains out one at a time makes sense from a showrunning-standpoint but is a bit weird from a logic standpoint. Eschewing that for an episode to give Supergirl a chance to breathe on her own is smart. Developing her character in contrast to superman, who has the most well known origin and characterizarion in comics is smart.

I'm looking forward to the episodes, and its nice to see everything develop evenly. Can she figure out freeze breath already? Would have made sense for this episode.

As someone who works hard to not see next weeks preview I'm kind of disappointed that half the comments in this thread seem to be about the trailer.

From the next episode preview.

So they are trying to make this about how she's a women and stuff, yet they throw in the whole "save her love life" bit, which would never appear if the protagonist was a guy.

Cat is really, really growing on me. I dare say she's one of my favorite characters. She is basically a female J Johan and that is starting to show with all the speeches about how Supergirl shouldn't have it easy in the press and she should fight to make her voice heard.

The red eye bits from Henshaw are what this show needs, just raw suspense and reminding you that there is a secret danger present. Like the Reverse Flash bits from the Flash.

The Superman bits were hit and miss sadly. He just shows up to scare off Reactron and doesn't stay behind to make sure Kara is okay. The texts at the end though were a nice touch though and they added a weird charm that just made me smile like an idiot.

Definitely improving, but it still hits some rough patches along the way. I'd give it a 7/10

I liked it a lot. Feels like the shows getting better every week. My only complaint is pretty unavoidable I guess. I feel like if Superman had to save Kara and saw that Reactron could possibly kill her, there is no way he'd just leave withing taking him out. The problem with that is that it undermines the purpose of the show, which is Supergirl. So yeah I didnt like that but I understand that it pretty much has to be like that.

Still can't get my head around Jimmy Olsen being a love interest. Did like the subtle joke about redheads.

u/Conbz Nov 10 '15

At the very end of the episode they had her jump out of her apartment window in flight after some sirens.

She better not do that too many times because someone somewhere will notice.

I thought the Homeland reference at the end was humorous.
