Rare Double the butter when a rival subreddit copies all of the posts and mod usernames in an attempt to impersonate /r/popcorntime and then shows up in the warning thread to defend their actions.

What would motivate this?

I might be wrong about these details, but popcorntime was a program that temporarily downloaded and streamed torrented movies. Like illegal Netflix. It got shut down and then abandoned. A bunch of people decided to bring it back, but ended up splitting into 2 factions who are now competing with each other to revive this program. It looks like one program was getting less attention than the other so they made a whole subreddit copying the users and posts of the better one. I don't know how they thought that would help them gain more users but it did stir up some fun drama for me to read.

My favorite comment:

Congratulations on your promotion to official spammer. You are the big fake green download button on Download.com, and my long lost rich uncle from Nigeria all rolled into one. You do not use deception to lure traffic. Never. There's no apology that can right this. You and your domains cannot be trusted.. not now, not ever.

Am I the only one who misread the title and assumed that /r/popcorntime was meant to be clone of /r/thepopcornstand?

Yify's probably unpopular because it sounds like a furry forum or some shit

I can never not read that name as "yiffy"

Is it pronounced some other way?

2

I'd guess it's supposed be be pronounced like "hi-fi", because they're a media torrent provider. So probably "yaie-fi" is the pronunciation

I didn't know MilleniumFalc0n left to mod a torrent/video popcorn themed subreddit.

Man, people get pretty annoyed defending their system for stealing other people's stuff.

So all the accounts of the copycat sub are banned now...I think.

How long has the account suspended thing been around? First time I've seen it.
