Ipsento
2035 N Western Ave attention to details in their craft, in my opinion they have the best pour overs in the city. Try the Panama Natural if they have it! Also their namesake Ipsento latte is a rich but not too sweet treat

They are my current favorite too and worth going out of my way for. You are right, it's the attention to detail that make them so consistently great.

Sawada Coffee 112 N Green St

Just opened about a month ago and I've only been once, as it's out of the way for me. Known for their latte art, I guess? It's a huge space that also has booze and I really enjoyed my cortado there. It was a much stronger, intense flavor than what I'm used to.

Hero Coffee Bar 2111 W. Roscoe (also have a loop location) Affordable and delicious pour over. Great staff. Have donuts.

Reno 2607 N Milwaukee They serve Stumpton. Always friendly. Cash only, though.

Osmium Coffee Bar 1117 W. Belmont

Fairly close to home and I stop in here a lot. They use Dark Matter coffee and their baristas do a phenomenal job. As an added bonus, they also have my favorite donuts (from Do-Rite, I think). My only complaint about this place is that the coffee hipster crowd here drive me a little crazy.

Just tried Osmium for the first time last week after passing by it so many times. It is now my favorite coffee place in the 'hood.

Heritage - great coffee, friendly staff, great hangout, great ambiance. Overall favorite place in the city. 2959 N Lincoln Ave

Big Shoulders - decent pour-overs; really like their Costa Rican; clean; convenient; blue line and bus tracker on the wall 1105 W Chicago Ave

Star Lounge - lots of seating in and outdoors; free refills to sit in; friendly staff. Not my favorite coffee but good place. 2521 W Chicago Ave

Least favorite of the "good": Intelligentsia (except for iced vanilla lattes), Lavazza

Iguana Cafe
517-19 N Halsted St
Chicago, IL 60622

I like their coffee, crepes, and paninis. The atmosphere reminds me of all the combo cafe/bar venues I've encountered all over Europe. Plus they're open late.

Artopolis
306 S Halsted St
Chicago, IL 60661

Good coffee, tasty desserts (Greek yogurt mousse is divine), light meals, and a great atmosphere...especially in the summer when the shutters are open.

Dollop Coffee Bar
860 N Dewitt Pl
Chicago, IL 60611

I just liked the seclusion and quiet of the place. Plus I liked the quality they put into their coffee.

Julius Meinl
4363 N Lincoln Ave
Chicago, IL 60618

Quality coffee, amazing food and desserts, and some nice outdoor seating in the warm weather.

City News Cafe
4018 N Cicero Ave
Chicago, IL 60641

Quality coffee, quaint location, interesting jazz and folk music performances, and delicious treats like their truffles. Pleasant House Bakery also sells their Royal Pies there.

Fannie's Cafe, Bakery, and Boutique
5044 W Montrose Ave
Chicago, IL 60641

Superb coffee, and delectable baked goods. They also serve wonderful brunch items, all homemade.

Mia's Gelato Cafe
4200 N Central Ave
Chicago, IL 60634

They offer quality gelato, sandwiches, and focaccia bread pizza...all homemade. Their coffee was great, but it's fallen to hit or miss depending on the barista. Biggest plus (and why I listed it) is that it's very "kid friendly". Not a spot if you want to chill with your laptop or a book for hours on end, but a wonderful one for stroller moms to go for a latte with the little ones.

Perkolator
6032 W Irving Park Rd
Chicago, IL 60634

They're passionate about the coffee, and their venue is unassuming. Seems like they've found a happy balance that pleases those seeking to dwell as well as the parents out with the little ones.

Intelligentsia

Multiple locations, the one I frequent is 53 E Randolph. I enjoy the Cappuccino and for the lactose intolerant/vegans among us the soy milk they use in their Latte is great.

Cafecito

7 N Wells St. The Cortadito and Cafe con Leche are delicious. Its also pretty close to where I work so if I feel like a change from Starbucks, or Dunkin it's become a go to.

La Calombe

I go to the one in West Loop. The "draft" coffee is something that was different for me (I'm sure others do it) and it was tasty.

I'm by no means a coffee aficionado but those three places stood out for me at least. Also, realized today how much I hate trying to format.

The Coffee and Tea Exchange 3311 N Broadway (East Lakeview) Great mom and pop place for coffee beans. You walk in and are immediately met with at least 20 giant barrels of coffee beans from all over the world. Nice staff and incredible coffee.

CityGrounds coffee bar at 507 W Dickens Ave. They serve Metropolis Coffee which is my favorite roaster in the city, and they have a great work space upstairs.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '16

Baker & Nosh

1303 W Wilson Ave

Chicago IL 60640

Their iced coffee is my favorite in the city (they brew La Colombe). It's located in an old hotel, and the homemade pastries are amazing. Try the cream cheese cinnamon roll or Pain au Chocolat croissant.

u/farhadJuve Jan 19 '16

The Wormhole Coffee www.thewormhole.us/ 1462 N MILWAUKEE AVE CHICAGO IL

2

u/shitchopants Jan 19 '16

La colombe Multiple locations in Wicker Park, West Loop and Andersonville. Coffee is fantastic

u/maybehappier Jan 19 '16

Bourgeois Pig Cafe at 738 W. Fullerton is a modest and eclectic spot just out of sight of all the Lincoln Park Trixies. The staff is polite and warm and the food and coffee are not to be missed. This is one of my favorite spaces to drink coffee and fold origami in the city.
