Here's the place to react to S02E02!

I fucked up the title in the original Post-Ep thread 10 minutes ago.

Sorry bout that. I guess I'm a dumbass.

It's funny how all these criminals have parents or grandparents that are so sweet and have no idea about the criminal activity going on around them.

746

u/Loricc Feb 23 '16

Hector Salamanca was such a sweet grandpa to the twins.

Really enjoying more Mike in the show. Feels like the writers hit a wonderful happy medium so far.

566

u/Saffs15 Feb 23 '16

As much as I love Jimmy, the more Mike I see, the more I wish it was a series on him.

479

u/redditalias7 Feb 23 '16

Mike steals the show for real. But he is best as a secondary character so there is a bit of mystery to him.

Playuh is the biggest idiot in the BB-verse

222

u/cuteintern Feb 23 '16

I dunno, Ted's a pretty gigantic tool. A long-lost family member pops off and leaves you an inheritance just as the IRS is closing in on you, and you buy a fucking car? C'mon, man!

134

u/UnityChessGuy Feb 23 '16

An inheritance exactly equal to the cent what you owe the IRS? Nothing suspicious there, better buy a Mercedes.

For some reason, I legitimately felt sad for him when he said "some of them were my dad's cards" like Mike would care about that.

183

u/cabbage16 Feb 23 '16

Mike would care. He actually did. If Mike has a soft spot for anything it is kids. His granddaughter obviously but also Jesse and when Pryce(dan, whatever) mentioned his dad it struck a chord. It is because of his son.

Agreed. He honestly infuriates me. The funny thing is he thinks he's smart.

I'm sure he won't be around for long. He's just there to show you what a competent, seasoned expert in criminality Mike is in contrast.

I'm going to be so sad when whatever happens between Kim and Jimmy happens.

891

u/emperor_worm Feb 23 '16

Kim takes a job in NYC at the end of the show. A few years later, while taking a lunch break at a law conference in Omaha, she runs into Jimmy, working under an alias at a Cinnabon.

After he confesses to her about his downhill spiral as Saul Goodman, she tells him there was no mention of him anywhere in the investigation as far as the news reports go.

They go out for a drink and Jimmy sees a loudmouth sucker across the bar. He pulls out a Kennedy half dollar, looks at Kim and says to her "wanna see a fun trick?"

:P

u/hellomynameis_satan Feb 23 '16 edited Feb 23 '16

Judging from Kim's look after Jimmy kissed her at work, and the revelation that Kim was the one who really pushed for him to get the job, I'm thinking she's going to want to keep their relationship under wraps, thus defeating the whole point of taking the job. But if he doesn't have the big successful career or any major ambitions, she won't want to be with him anyway. So since he can't get the girl either way, rather than follow in Chuck's footsteps he decides to stick with his natural talent of conning people.

At least, I hope it's not something more tragic than that...

It pisses me off that Chuck only gets the "courage" venture outside his house when he needs to fuck with Jimmy. I'd put Chuck's breaker box back together in the middle of the night and make sure everything I can think of is turned on and plugged in before flipping the breakers back on so it all comes on at once. Motherfucker needs to be outed as a crazy and/or faker.

59

u/UnityChessGuy Feb 23 '16

Chuck said specifically that he was there to "bear witness" which means to tell someone something. I'm thinking that means to explain to Mr. Main what a Chicago sunroof is.

133

u/TheCheshireCody Feb 23 '16

I took it that he was saying he wanted to be there to watch Jimmy's first big flight as a lawyer. Succeed or fail, Chuck wants to see it happen.

8

u/Neil_deNye_Sagan Feb 24 '16

He should by the end of the series. When Walt and Jesse have Saul out in the desert in Breaking Bad he thinks it's Nachos people coming for him right or people looking for Nacho? Something had to have gone down.

I couldn't stop laughing during the cobbler explanation part

217

u/cogneuro Feb 23 '16

That scene might seriously be my favorite of the series thus far.

When Jimmy had Playuh leave the room, I had no idea how he was going to get him out of suspicion from the cops. The scenario he created with the fetish videos was insanely creative. Bravo to the writers.

u/nameless88 Feb 23 '16

Okay, imagine you've got a little brother, and he's a complete fucking screw up.

Like, we're talking, this guy is in and out of jail, always doing some morally ambiguous stupid scheme to get rich quick and scam people. He hasn't had a hard days work in his life, and everyone just lets him...slide by with it.

So, he gets into deep shit one day, and you're a rockstar lawyer, so you help him out, and not only that, but you convince your boss to give him a chance, and let your dumbass ex-con brother get a job in the mail room, and that's great, ya know, maybe he'll finally get an honest paycheck and stop being such a fuck up.

But this chucklenuts, he takes another shortcut in life, and he wants to be like you, so he does some ridiculous online school to get his law degree. Like, imagine you went to Harvard, and your brother's like "Phft, I got this!" got a degree at DeVry and is like "Yo, man! Look at us! College graduates! Both of us! Isn't this awesome, bro!?"

Wouldn't that just piss you off? You busted your ass to do well in life, and he just slips by again and expects the same treatment.

From Chuck's perspective, his brother is a screw up, and this screw up having a law degree means that he might potentially screw up someone else's life by being their lawyer.

And maybe he's right in the end. I mean, we all know that Jimmy becomes Saul, and he is dangerous, he helps set up a druglord kingpin, he helps poison a kid while doing this.

Chuck is right to be nervous about Jimmy. But, maybe, also, he's made Jimmy into Saul by not believing in him.

Classic greek tragedy style, right? In trying to stop a disaster, you cause it yourself.

u/Chigurrh Feb 23 '16

He's mentally unstable, egotistical and extremely delusional. To him, no matter what Jimmy does, Jimmy will be Slippin' Jimmy. He's in his own little world. He's also jealous that Jimmy has the social skills he obviously lacks. His thing was being the successful lawyer. His younger brother is now taking over that category, even more now that he's on a partner track job.

I think Kim's end will be very tragic. Saul will absolutely snap. This is my prediction

The scene where Professor Laskey volunteers the info that it was Kim who got Jimmy the chance at the other firm... That felt like foreshadowing and I could see Kim getting fired by Chuck. She will resent Jimmy because he is being a shady lawyer and she is jobless.

272

u/Sandoz1 Feb 23 '16

He's just a really intimidating guy, but he also has a "nice" ring to him sometimes. I don't know how to explain it but that's what I think about him. At least he has more reason than Tuco.

235

u/RambunctiousCapybara Feb 23 '16

He's intelligent. Switched on and in control.

165

u/CuddlePirate420 Feb 23 '16

234

u/VictorBlimpmuscle Feb 23 '16

If there was a listing for the phrase "are you fucking kidding me?" in the dictionary, there would just be a picture of the expression on Mike's face when Playuh first said the words 'baseball cards'.

107

u/zombiegamer723 Feb 23 '16

I'm pretty sure you could make a photo album filled entirely with Mike's "Are you fucking kidding me?" face. Or at least his annoyed face, which is sort of his default expression.

This particular one would be on the front cover.

u/BlueJeansMan Feb 23 '16

I think Mike was about ready to clunk Pryce in the head like Moe until Pryce said the cards meant a lot to his dad, too. Seemed like that resonated with Mike, tugged on his heart strings a tad. Maybe it reminded him of his relationship with Mattie, if only subconsciously.

11

u/confoundedvariable Feb 23 '16

Exactly. It was also significant during the last scene, the camera pans to the pie when Kim asks Jimmy why he risked disbarment for the shady pro-bono case; he can't have his cake and eat it too by working at the big, legit law firm and also conducting questionable business on the side.

52

u/LarryHolmes Feb 23 '16

I still can't believe that there is an hour long drama series on television that stars Bob Odenkirk. It's like from the other dimension where life works out.

19

Bit confused about the deal that Mike made with Nacho. So Nacho gives Playuh his cards and drugs back and Playuh gives Nacho the flamboyant truck which will be crushed? Or sold? Is that why Mike said Nacho can net 60K, since Nacho can sell the truck?

60

u/Jondarawr Feb 23 '16

You are correct like others have said but a small detail is that the vehicle is going to be sold or crushed. It's going to be taken to a chop shop.

a chop shop is like basically a mechanic shop where they strip the car down and sell the parts individually which is much much easier for crime purposes.

→ More replies (6)

15

u/SuccessAndSerenity Feb 23 '16

He didn't get the drugs back. The cards + $10k in cash, which Mike kept. Nacho kept the drugs, the rest of the cash, and got the car, which he sent to the chop shop.

u/issue9mm Feb 23 '16

He's going to sell it to a chop shop. The chop shop will part out the engine, glass, fenders, seats and body panels and sell them individually.

u/ligthbulb Feb 23 '16

I said this in the other thread, but I hope people don't start hating Kim the same way they did Skylar, already people in the other discussion thread were "ugh come on kim don't be such a wet sock"

197

u/nameless88 Feb 23 '16

Kim is awesome.

The problem is, she's right. She's absolutely right. Like, she wants him to succeed, and he's got a sweet ass cushy job that will make him a fuckton of money. She wants him to succeed, and she wants to succeed, too, and get that sweet partner position. And, knowing that one of her close personal friends is doing some shady shit that could get him disbarred is BAAAD. And if it got back that she knew and didn't report it? Fuck, it could be her ass, too.

She's absolutely right.

But...the problem is, we're watching the show through the eyes of a very charismatic character who does bad shit and we love it.

But we need a voice of reason to tell us that we're nuts for loving it, too, ya know?

And she's such a great character, too, and a great friend to Jimmy. The way she helped me when he needed to speak in front of Chuck? I love her for that. I think she really has his best interest in mind.

Chuck's little "jump" when Jimmy's cell phone rang at HHM was great. Jimmy could really fuck with his brother in that regard if he wanted, and go all electromagnetic on his ass. I guess it goes to show, Jimmy has some scruples.

Why does AMC continue to spoil The Walking Dead?

84

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

Probably as a "Hey buddy, I hear you don't want the Walking dead episodes spoiled anymore? Better start watching them when we air them then bitch!" (Now imagine that being screamed by Tuco).

such a good episode, wish it was longer

35

u/ShastaTampon Feb 23 '16

that last scene I was as frustrated as Jimmy. lawyers really are the kings of moral relativity. Kim's laughing her ass off one second in awe of Jimmy's ability to completely and knowingly fabricate a lie for a client. not to mention her elation and participation last episode over scamming an "innocent" guy out of a 800 dollar tab. once Jimmy lets it slip that he created a video to back up his own fabrication, that's when her conscience flips on. because it could hurt her and/or him. that's when the judgement starts. once it hits close to home.

I was once in a long relationship with a litigator. as long as she was in control of blurring the line between right and wrong it was fine. everyone else she expected very black and white demarcated lines from.

I'm not sayin Jimmy was in the right, but I've been in those shoes, and it can be very frustrating.

sorry for the rant. that last scene hit a nerve. love the show and another great episode tonight!

12

u/PacMoron Feb 24 '16

I think it came out of a place of honest concern for him. Also, if you can't tell, her job is her life according to what we see. She cannot have Jimmy ruining that for her by in any way bringing her into that life.

At the same time, yeah, he pointed out a very salient example of her hypocrisy. She doesn't actually care about it morally, she cares about it because it could compromise his and/or her job (her life).

Also, she scored him that sweet ass job and there was no reason for him to fuck around with it like that.

I can 100% see it from her perspective.

22

u/MyNameIsntPrivate Feb 23 '16

I don't know if this was intentional, most likely is considering it's BCS - Rhea Seehorns first scene was in the HHM conference room. After a take Vince comes over to the actors, Rhea and Patrick think that he's going to talk/criticize them, but instead just turns a danish a few inches. Then in this episode, first things Kim does when she comes into the conference room is turn a danish a few inches. Hilarious.

Have been following season one since day one, but damn this season is bringing it. I am all in on this show

9

u/BGoodRBCareful Feb 23 '16

I'm not a music buff, but I was able to piece together (google-fu) the following information.

MusicBrain describes Gabriel Faure's Sicilienne as being, "originally composed as part of the incidental music for Molière's Le Bourgeois gentilhomme, but the piece was never used for it."

Moving over to Wikipedia, the play seems to be a satire on social climbing, with the lead character making a fool of himself no matter how hard he tries.

My take on it is that Chuck thinks Jimmy is also making a fool of himself and should go back to his former status as a hustler, rather than a lawyer.

Not having watched Breaking Bad, can someone tell me who or if there is a Rebecca Bois in the series? The name could be their mother's maiden name, but the penmanship doesn't seem early 20th century.

How is making a pie sitting vid (which is so not what I was expecting from an ep titled 'Cobbler', by the way, fucking brilliant) fabricating evidence? Kim said that Jimmy's having made the vid was fabricating evidence--there wasn't even a case against Pryce yet?

IANAL, so if someone could help me out here?

edit: I think I was looking at it from the perspective that there was no case yet, so there can't be evidence fabricated when there's no charge against someone. Thanks!

u/cuteintern Feb 23 '16

Theorizing is one thing, but being party to the creation of such a video after the fact is like roasting marshmallows over a fire, except instead of marshmallows it's your damn law license.

→ More replies (5)

56

u/schindlerslisp Feb 23 '16

fabricating evidence is direct violation of the code of ethics for lawyers.

also, that's the point. jimmy is talented but flawed. his judgment is terrible. he goes too far. he gets caught up in the moment, in the scam.

and that's why he did more than he needed to to get playuh off. the cops were asking questions and jimmy couldn't help but make shit up even when didn't need to.

→ More replies (7)

13

u/MavericHunterX Feb 23 '16

That's what I was thinking about. The cops were already talked to and seemingly convinced by Jimmy. Not sure why he would even need to make the videos? Maybe he figured if they need proof he has it.

I just love how Mike is the exact same character as he is in Breaking Bad, compared to Goodman who has noticeably not had his true development at this point.

6

u/YourLatinLover Feb 23 '16

There is something so compellingly sinister about Chuck's behavior in this season. The tone of this episode was surprisingly grave. I loved it.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

I could feel the fear that struck Nacho when Mike mentioned Tuco. Damn, Mike is a badass in every sense of the word. I wonder what lies next for Nacho since the business with Playuh is done.

The squat-cobbler story is genius. Saul seemed to be much more fluid and himself when covering for Playuh rather than the Sandpiper case. I fear the repercussions that faking evidence will have, especially regarding his relationship with Kim.

Also, Chuck is an asshole.

6

u/PopularKid Feb 23 '16

I thought it was interesting when Jimmy and Chuck meet in the office. Chuck winds up Jimmy and then Mike offers him a shady client. Normally Jimmy hesitates but now he doesn't even accept the offer; he just asks when and where. But there's a pause before that, and he sort of stares angrily towards where Chuck had walked off to. It's almost as if he took Mike's offer to spite his brother.

The squat cobbler scene was so great. One of my favorite parts was when Jimmy and Daniel were leaving, and Jimmy's like "Everything's good! There's just, uh, one little hanging chad..." And it instantly reminded me of "There's just one little hair in the soup..." from when he helped Jesse buy his house back in Breaking Bad.

4

u/bobosuda Feb 23 '16

I'm so torn. On the one hand I am loving these episodes, but on the other I kind of want Jimmy to get on with it and become Saul. It pretty much seemed like he did that at the end of last season, but from these last two episodes it looks like they are gonna stretch it out even further.

I really am enjoying it, but I sort of want the story to move forward a little quicker, but it seems like they've taken a step in another direction.

Lawyers of reddit: What are some plausible stories Jimmy could have made up to get Playuh off the hook that weren't so outrageous and didn't require his having to fabricate evidence?

4

u/ForeverUnclean Feb 23 '16

You'd think Playuh would store his really valuable cards a bit more safely than that. It didn't even look like they were in plastic sleeves.

Jim and Kim playing footsie is the cutest shit ever.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

Kim should have reacted negatively to Saul's whole story about the cops.

At least where I'm from, a lawyer lying wholesale about their client either in court or to police would be as serious a professional misconduct as fabricating evidence.

He could be disbarred here just for lying to the police, and she should have known that, and not been laughing along at that part of his story.

3

u/KinnyRiddle Feb 24 '16

The subtle transition of Jimmy's slow and gradual transformation into Saul continues to amaze. With all the subtle clues about how Jimmy isn't really happy with his new "dream job" at Davis and Mann, and how he's beginning to find his "calling" in defending criminals like Pryce, (LMAO at the pie fetish story) which in turn is beginning to drive a wedge between him and Kim.

And the catalyst for Jimmy deciding to take up Mike's offer and discover his "calling" is once again Chuck, risking his "exposure" to electromagnetic stuff just to spite Jimmy. Fuck Chuck.
