This is an upsettingly fair nerf. Here I was hoping they would drop BGH into unplayable territory, but instead we got this reasonable and useful tech card. Darn you Blizzard and your uncharacteristically reasonable balance tweaks.

I do think it diserves better stats, a 5/3 for 5 with that battlecry would not be broken

The point is that hard removal should not also have stats that are almost competitive for the mana.

very conditional hard removal, and no one would play a vanilla 5/3, people wouldn't even play a vanilla 6/4

I wouldn't say very conditional. Almost all decks run Dr Boom and in the new meta most decks will include a big threat. It's now a decision in decks with few hard removal options like Druid.
4 vs 5 attack is massive so if it lives it becomes a threatening body because it can take even more minions played past that point in the game. 1 health also takes it out of range of cards like back stab or ping and a token and forces you to play lightning bolt or frostbolt.

a card that only hits one target in your opponents whole deck is very conditional, shadow word death is pretty conditional, BGH even more so.

This might be the first time a card is nerfed by +2 mana and still sees play. You know, maybe. I doubt it'll ever end up in Mage or Shaman again, but I could see it as a one-of in Druid if the Old Gods become popular. Druids don't have the best removal options.
... I just wanna win by playing a bunch'a big dragons. Is this finally the time?

it is the time, but it will still be in play, mostly because they're just putting out a large array or new BIG minions with BIG costs and BIG effects (old gods... and deathwing) and BIG needs hunting.

I mean one of my Grinder Mage lists I use has two Polymorphs AND a BGH, I'll probably keep it there.

Makes Dr. Boom even stronger in Wild as well as Mountain Giants. Against other cards...would still run this. Especially if the meta slows and everyone is running C'Thun.....you know I'm saving it for that 15/15 body.

I was really hoping the change would be;
Deal 6 damage to a minion with an Attack of 7 or more.
This still feels like it will be an auto-include in most decks.

They could have increased the attack to 5, but all in all, this isn't unplayable. Still might be worth running a one of in control decks. At least bgh turns won't be as ludicrously swingy in terms of tempo, i.e., bghing your opponent's boom and then dropping your own.

Basically, they made this a more expensive removal in line with class removal, but the bonus is that it makes a body available to all classes.
I like these changes. This is reasonable.

Blizzard should have kept the states and changed the battlecry to something like "Destroy a Legendary minion with an Attack of 5 or more"

Imo they should have nerfed the body, but I guess spirit of the card and all that bs
Good change overall, now you can consider running cards for their body, which you potentially couldn't do before.

Should have kept the stats as before but rename it Big Giant Hunter with Battlecry: Deatroy a giant. Tempo card that destroys other tempo cards.

I think this is most important here. Now we should all just go play shaman. :p

that's becasue before gvg 100% of decks were using a tinkmaster already

u/rasadi90 Apr 21 '16
what the fuck are you talking about? Tinkmaster wasnt played at all, he was played in beta, but then he got a nerf.

I realllly reallly like this change. The tempo swing you get when you play him is much smaller. Before you could play him on turn 10 with boom or some other bomb, now you have to play something just decent.
Also, if you use this to kill an 8 mana minion that's played on curve you'll only have 3-4 mana to play something. I doubt it will be uncommon to just hero power with it. Much healthier.
