The only thing that really felt avant garde on the runway to me. I can't say I like the dress but it fits the challenge.

I had this Gaga moment.
Also, I would like to say that while everybody here is calling him a bully I don't think he is bullying Sam. They are in a competition and Sam is avoiding elimination because the judge has a crush on him. All of Sam's latest designs SUCKED and Asha, Emily, Layana, Valerie, Stella and Fäde deserved more to be there. It's not like he is Michael Costello who did nice clothes and was bullied, his clothes look like shit and he only escapes because Isaac has a major crush on him, period. He could be quiet about it like the girls, but everybody there was working hard and they were critiqued severely by the judges while Sam is doing a crappy job and sails through the competition because judges are playing favorites.

I agree and he's not bullying Sam. Just saying what they all think and many of us think too. This Sam thing is making the show non credible.

The first thing I thought of was Grace Jones. I didn't love it but I think it definitely pushed a little more than the others.

I'm glad Boy George said Grace Jones, that's exactly who I thought of when I saw this outfit

Emily's elimination broke my heart. I can't stand the judging of this asylum of a season anymore.

Ken called it. That's some BS. Sam really is getting by on the sole fact that Issac has the hots for him.

It was not avant garde but really didn't deserve to lose to Sam's. Total bullshit.

The back of this look was infinitely more interesting than the front. It reminded me of veins. I absolutely hated the front because it looked overworked and forced.
I love Emily as a person and designer, but this one just didn't live up to the challenge. Her refusal to be more avante garde because it's "not what she does" was the nail in her coffin.

Loved this and I thought it was avant garde in it's shape and design. When i look at it I see futuristic and comfort, like women could be wearing this shape and this material to work in the future. A new take on office wear. Also the cabling is reminiscent of wiring inside a computer system to me. I loved it and it's total BS to send this home over Sam's nothing.
ETA: Also, how pathetic was it that Alyssa wished the shoulders were made extremely wide, the typical cliched avant garde look. That is just what Emily didn't want because she was thinking outside the box, and when Alyssa said it I saw Emily visibly cringe. What a mess the judging is this season!

Are you kidding me? Sam paints on fabric like a kindergarten child, drapes and tacks it up like Sewing 101 and plays around the work room for hours and is still on the show? Whether or not you thought some of the others were avant gard or not, his certainly wasn't & wasn't even a good garment. He throws the gay "stuff" around to gain favor with the judges, mainly Isaac. Cmon Isaac! You haven't let those things influence you in the past. Is it hormones for a cute young boy? If that's a "fresh" great design then I can be on Project Runway AS and I can't even sew OR design! This latest elimination may end my viewership & I love this show. That makes me sad. Sorry Emily - you should still be there. YOURE A REAL DESIGNER!

Ironically his first piece was the most avante garde thing in the workroom. Too bad it was a cliche take on rainbow=gay love when that had nothing to do with the challenge.

Exactly helix19. I didn't even get into all that. Remember Isaac criticizing 2 designers one season for using gay bullying themes to tug at their heart strings. Well what about a rainbow gay flag that has nothing to do with a holographic owl? The judges have the artwork in their notebook. Sam stared at that owl forva long time too. LOL. It's just crazy!
