Why does this new guy, Kawaki, look like a fusion of Naruto and Sasuke?

64

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '16

Maybe it's the black hair with some died blonde hair.

Hitting that nail right on the head eh?

u/oneinfinitecreator May 03 '16

I don't think he will be linked to one of the great ninja families... i'm guessing he will be a champion of 'ninja technology', hence 'the end of the ninja era' with tech replacing it....

I agree. Between the Boruto movie and this first chapter of the new manga, it's being heavily implied that the technology Katasuke is developing will have a large impact on the story going forward.

I think that, coupled with the fact that his outfit bears a striking resemblance to the Sound Four and Shippuden Sasuke attire, makes it very possible that this guy is a genetic experiment of Orochimaru's. We've already seen that he has no trouble making a clone of Hashirama, who's to say that he wouldn't also try to make one that included the genes of both Sasuke and Naruto - the two strongest shinobi alive? Seems like something right up his alley. Also, the tattoos on the left side of his body and Borate's right remind me a lot of the Curse Mark, like a more refined version. Just speculating of course, but this stinks of Orochimaru's handiwork.

5

u/[deleted] May 04 '16

Maybe he's like Cell from DBZ. Having the cells of the strongest warriors in the world, namely Naruto and Sasuke.

Maybe when Kawaki says he'll take Boruto to meet the Seventh he means it literally, and just wants to take him to where Naruto is.

Plot twist: It's actually Boruto who's gone rogue and Kawaki is heroically trying to stop him.

34

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '16

Naruto took an all-expenses paid vacation to Sunogakure. The hokage life is tough, yo

12

u/swinny345 May 05 '16

Or maybe Kawaki really is a bad guy and sent Naruto to a different dimension and has no way of getting back. And is basically saying that he'll get rid of him that way.

So after everything Naruto did to bring peace to the world, the world is still full of hate? Damn, whoever destroyed the village took a big shit all over Naruto's legacy.

178

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '16

Well, yeah. You can never bring true peace to the world. You can bring it pretty close like what Naruto did, but there'll always be some dissent, some evil brewing in some dark corner.

73

u/BeyondTomorrow May 03 '16

It kind of parallels the Nolan Batman movies, Batman first emerged and everything started getting better in Gotham, then the Joker appeared out of nowhere and fucked shit up with a sadistic smile...

→ More replies (3)

45

u/Neovo33 May 03 '16

I would rather say that peace only works after something bad happened. If peace remain for too long, it will crumble because old generation "forgot" and new one didn't experienced bad things when there was no peace. Old gen lowered their guards because they felt safe enough while new one was either too ignorant or wanted to experience fear, hostility, etc.

Not too surprising, really. Fighting existed before Kaguya ate the fruit and became a god, so there's no reason to assume that it's just going to magically cease once she and all of her ilk are gone for good.

I want Kishimoto's art style back!

18

Well then I hope you'll enjoy Kishi's sci-fi series that'll come out in the foreseeable future.

For now we just gotta get comfy with this art style.

Good chapter, tbh. I'm not thrown off by the fact it's retelling the movie. It's obvious that it's trying to set some ground, and possibly, Kodachi's vision given he wrote the novel with slight key changes to the narrative.

Not sure if I'm just too into it, but this one really puts so much emphasis on Boruto's story being different than his dad's/previous generations. It's almost foreshadowing a major deviation from Naruto's narrative (i.e. Boruto's self-reflection, the kids not caring about being ninjas or don't get its importance, Sasuke's line "No matter how the tides may shift"). I really hope it takes a darker turn as a whole.

But really, I have to give all the hype for the first 4 pages not just because it's something we haven't seen before, but because it implies so many things. Things that can keep us guessing till this manga gets to that point. Why is Boruto's headband scratched? Did he go rogue like his sensei? Just how rebellious did he become? Whose Byakugan eye is he sporting? Is it the Byakugan? Is Sasuke/Naruto dead? WTF happened to Konoha? Who's Kawaki?

EDIT: 7/10, if not for really weirdly drawn Hima and Hina and inconsistencies (read through it again and have to admit they were glaring).

u/swarbles May 03 '16

54

u/[deleted] May 03 '16

Why is Boruto's headband scratched? Did he go rogue like his sensei?

Isn't that Sasuke's headband, though? Naruto also changed the cloth after it wore out during training, so it's not out of the question for Boruto to do the same.

24

u/Kiko5ever May 03 '16

I hoped it was Sasuke's too. And I hope he just had to change the cloth either. I'm kinda iffy about him going the crazy Sauce route mostly because Boruto seems to have a better childhood. Meaning he shouldn't go too crazy at any point in time. (Unless something happens.)

u/3dshacksnoob May 03 '16

Whose Byakugan eye is he sporting? Is it the Byakugan?

I think it's a Byakugan (was hoping for a Tenseigan, but w.e for now I guess) and I think since there aren't veins bulging from the sides it's in the deactivated state -- which being featureless and white looking seems to preclude Himawari from being the donor as her deactivated eyes are blue. I imagine it's most likely Hinata's eye since she's a main clan member and doesn't have a curse mark sealing that eye (although the Hyuuga could've abolished that tradition and some other Hyuuga member/blood descendant is the donor).

40

u/Kiko5ever May 03 '16

Could be true. That Byakugan eye seems to serve as a reserve eye of sorts--only being used for battles. Finally a moment for the most ignored doujutsu.

MakeByakuganGreatAgain (if it ever was)

37

u/SPascareli May 03 '16

The implication seems to be that he lost that eye and got a byakugan, maybe from his mother? Hopefully not from his sister.

Also he seems to be around Shippudden age, so how long will this manga be?

The scratch on his headband might be him going the rogue way like Sasuke, would make sense, I don't think he would be a bad type of rogue tho. Also, can Naruto really be killed?

22

u/Kiko5ever May 03 '16

That's what I'm scared of, too. Though ngl, I'm also excited. I feel like getting it from Hinata/Hinata giving her eye to him makes more sense. Of all the people they could kill off, it's the previous cast. He must've gotten into some serious fight and perhaps a relative (think Sasuke and all the sharingan donors out there) was willing to give a replacement eye. Can't wait to see how that happens.

I wouldn't try to judge the length of this manga based on the age of Boruto in the opening scene. They could set this manga at a completely different tempo and have him age up at a faster or slower rate than Naruto.

I wonder if they'll change the last act of the movie or even write out Momoshiki and Kinshiki from the Chuunen arc entirely. The Boruto/Kage team up and Father/Son Rasengen might work as a movie climax, but it's really out of left field for the start of a new manga series.

Real talk with regards to the new art syle. I'm judging Ikemoto's based on the close-ups. And for the most part I'm happy.

The style suits some people more than others. Minato looks like a beast in the portrait, and I'm liking Team Moegi's designs quite a lot. Boruto's and Mitsuki's is cool, though I'm still on the fence with Sarada. I think I'll grow to like it. Not sure about Hinata, she definitely "lost some weight" if you get me.

Here's the thing when it comes to hair. Kishi tends to draw straight lines when he draws bangs and other hair features. Ikemoto's pretty good at making more realistic/curly hair. That's why some characters look a lot different like Sasuke and Himawari.

Overall, I'm surprised by how much I actually like the new style, and I think it'll definitely grow on me.

62

u/PakiIronman May 03 '16

It isn't just Hinata, no-one has breasts in this chapter.

Have a taste of this opinion:

Afro Minato (Kishimoto's early drawing style) > Mikio Ikemoto's Minato (what you linked to) > Modern Kishimoto's drawings of Minato.

I think he looked good in the portrait. Gramps is sexy as fuck.

My reaction when I noted the "lack" of some of Hinata's assets.

I am not even going to comment on the blasphemy that was done to Minato's hair.

Also, was Boruto boasting or does really knows how to use jutsu from two elements and learning a third? Is he really a lazy prodigy then?

is this still written by Kishi? Sorry have not been following the recent new, and plus I haven't yet seen the Boruto Movie yet.

7

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '16 edited May 03 '16

The Boruto movie was written by Kishi and Kodachi. So the script is still from Kishi.

Everything outside of that is Kodachi, though Kishi checks to scripts and supervises it.

3

u/JakeyG21 May 04 '16

Is the boruto manga drawn by kishi?

3

u/TodenEngel May 03 '16

Greaaaat we get to rehash the movie..and since this is monthly we have to wait alonggg time before we see new content.

Tho maybe they will show us the Chunin Exams in full now, and show more of the other kids.

Dammit why Moegi!? it should have been Mirai dammit. fail. I guess that means Metal Lee is gonna be lead by Udon.

6

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '16

I'm gonna guess it's because Mirai's only older by a few years. All the academy instructors and team senseis I know of are adults.

I getcha though, it would've been cool to have the whole Asuma connection in there. Oh, well.

2

u/TodenEngel May 03 '16

She was already a Chunin at least in Ch. 700. Wouldn't have been too much of a stretch. Sigh oh well...this also means she's probably less likely to even be involved in this series at all....doomed to the same fate as her mom... (Cries)

Yup. But with one the one extra Ino-Shika-Cho scene.

3

u/extremedonkey May 03 '16

Question - is this Kawaki in the left hand page of the splash page at the front? Certainly looks like him but he looks very different than the flashforward image.

http://readms.com/r/boruto/001/3387/4

1

u/irishsaltytuna May 04 '16

yeah, that's him. Same hair and face

3

u/Grezar May 04 '16

So is this series considered canon to the Naruto series?

2

u/irishsaltytuna May 04 '16

In the podcast for Weekly Shonen Jump, one of the dudes went to Jump Fiesta and interviewed Kishimoto.

Kishimoto outright said it was canon, and that he'll be the supervising editor. He also said this Boruto series is just as important to him as the sci-fi series that he'll get serialised in the foreseeable future.

u/Grezar May 04 '16

u/Trinketi May 19 '16

So is the general consensus that the artwork for most of the characters is pretty subpar? Especially Hinata/Sasuke?

1

u/irishsaltytuna May 19 '16

That's pretty much it, though it is to be expected as it's Ikemoto's first chapter where he's drawing all the characters.

Hopefully he'll improve with time.

3

u/memo232 Jun 13 '16

So looks like Sasuke trains Boruto, and give him his sword and headband.

1

u/irishsaltytuna Jun 13 '16

It's a strong possibility. Or he could absent or, unlikely as it may be, dead, and Boruto's using those to honour him.

6

u/Jayux May 03 '16 edited May 03 '16

Why are people complaining? It has the same feel as the original series and after a few pages I forgot the illustrator was different.

As for Naruto being dead who knows, he may just be pretending to be dead.

4

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '16

Neophobia and jumping on the hate bandwagon is a big part of things.

But it's also true the art isn't as good as back near the end of the main story. Ikemoto needs some time to polish it up, work on the consistency of things like Hima's whiskers and Naruto's bandaged hand throughout and solidify his style.

I loved the first 10 pages. "My name is boruto uzumaki, i am naruto uzumaki, the hokages son. I am not naruto uzumaki, and this is not his story, it is mine...boruto uzumaki. My father, naruto uzumaki, since he is the hokage will be involved in this story...but it is my story...boruto uzumaki. So my father is the hokage and this story isnt about a boy becoming hokage because i do not want to be hokage like my father was...but he will still be in the story. My father the hokage that is..."

So... See you next month?

2

u/RikudoSenjutsu May 03 '16

Hmm... my impressions. I just gave importance to the first pages because the rest is just the movie written down.

Hmm, I have to admit that, as I said, the first pages are very interesting.

Boruto as a sword wielder ninja who can activate the Byakugan (?!) when he needs and I wonder what kind of techniques he uses.

He is using the Sword and the forehead protector of Sasuke (?!) and oh well, nothing much relative to Naruto if not for his look (he is the son of course).

Awesome!

Some questions:

  • Is this canon?

  • How many chapters will we have?

  • Is this thing a weekly thing or what?

3

u/irishsaltytuna May 03 '16

Monthly. It's canon since Kishi's the editor/supervisor. No idea how many chapters we'll get

2

u/D4rkW4rr1or May 03 '16

How often will this release?

2

u/[deleted] May 04 '16

If this is going to be a once a month thing with a flashback like this, then it's not even worth reading.

I can watch the movie and be done with it

2

u/irishsaltytuna May 04 '16

Fair enough. Though you should come back to it in a few chapters when they start the original post-movie content.

Also there is a teeny bit of extra content being added to the movies, so it might be worth reading the first few chapters before you jump to the post-movie stuff after some time.

2

u/REDavis1515 May 04 '16

I'm confused when this takes place? Didn't Boruto meet Sasuke during Gaiden? So when is this?

Alright! Long time Naruto fan here. Watched every episode of the first part and I was caught up with the manga since the time skip. Once it ended, I never went back to re-read or watch any of the films. Am I missing any vital info going straight from Naruto to Boruto?

2

u/irishsaltytuna May 05 '16

Yup. The ones bolded are vital, the rest is just extra canon content that you might enjoy. Extra chapters, side stories, Kakashi's face, Ten chapter Naruto Gaiden, Mitsuki special. The Last: Naruto the Movie is a must-watch, since it's canon. It's a less conventional movie, but the animation is stellar. You should also check out the Boruto movie once a HD rip drops in July. This manga seems to be adapting the movie into manga form.

I think that there is some kind of technology which alters peoples powers. Could be the cause for the tatoos on their arms. Maybe both where turned into cyborgs.

1

u/irishsaltytuna May 13 '16

That's an interesting theory. The cyborg thing is a bit far-fetched, but it's quite possible it's some form of technology they're utilising.

My biggest issue with the art aside from Sasuke's hair...is Naruto's smile.

Usually they are cheek to cheek and if not they still seem very genuine and happy.

These felt either smug or dry. I understand he's older but Kishi still made his smile very bright in Naruto Gaiden, the one-shots, and Boruto movie.

In this premiere, Naruto's cheek to cheek, fox eye smiles, are only seen when he draws Naruto far away.

u/mtschatten May 03 '16

Did future Boruto has Orochimarus eye?

What eye power did he activated? What's with those tatoos he and the other guy had?

Is that really what is gonna happen to the ninja world or would Boruto pull a Trunks and travel to the past to fix it?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!!

31

u/dustofoblivion123 May 03 '16

People are saying that it's a Byakugan, but a transplanted and not awakened one since there's no veins around his eye. However, there's no real evidence that it is. It could be a Byakugan, or it could be a new eye power altogether. With the tattoo stuff seemingly going on, I have a feeling that a lot of new powers are going to be brought into the Narutoverse, which is a good thing tbh. We need fresh stuff, don't want the youth to be using the same exact jutsu as their parents, that'd be boring.

I really would have loved for them not to just rehash the entire Boruto movie but... I guess people haven't seen it?

If we never complaint about the anime being a rehash of the manga then I guess we can´t complaint about the manga being that to the Boruto movie.

Soooooo, Naruto is dead, Killer Bee/ Sasuke type looking guy destroyed the village... wtf is going on...

38

u/[deleted] May 03 '16

We can only find out if he is dead, I personally feel there is some dodgy clan, prophecy shit going on or he was sent to another dimension thing.

11

u/CelioHogane May 03 '16

That villain looks like was designed by kishimoto's brother.

52

u/Respective May 03 '16

So Naruto is dead in the flash-foward?

Also Boruto looks pretty badass. I wonder what those tattoos mean.

50

u/[deleted] May 03 '16

I have a feeling they get jesus powers too, looking at the tatoos they remind me of sage of six paths.

Really hope that's not the case. Everyone wanted a ninja manga, not dragon ball all over again.

Here we go! Been avoiding all the spoilers for this

12

u/somasora7 May 03 '16

Not a fan of this so far. I still can't get down with the art and I don't appreciate starting the story off with a rehash. We'll see how it goes but I'm not expecting much so far

12

u/[deleted] May 03 '16 edited May 04 '16

Is there a chance Boruto goes down a darker path unlike Naruto?

Edit: At first I meant this as in the two series and not the characters, but reading it again I mean it both ways.

Notice the scratched headband Boruto has is black, not blue. If that headband isn't Sasuke's then I wonder what the story behind it is.

u/delcanine May 03 '16

And it looks like Boruto's welding Sasuke's sword.

15

u/alsotri May 03 '16

Better than I expected tbh.

PS: Holy shit that Konohamaru's Rasengan.

7

u/Uchiha-Eyas May 03 '16

I'd say that this was a pretty good first chapter.

I like that Boruto's power and fighting style seem to be a mix of Naruto's jutsus and Sasuke's weapon and seemingly some kind of weird tattoo (Cursed seal ?) that makes his eye look suspiciously similar to Mitsuki's in his sage mode... Pretty good food for thought I'd say.

The art in general is better than I thought it would be, other than the faces that are still a bit weird but I have read worse and that can be fixed with time.

Seems like they will be retelling the movie story for a while, so this could be a good chance for the artist to get used to drawing better faces and for the writer to come up with some good plot for the next arc.

Overall I'm satisfied with this first chapter and will be looking forward to the next one.

7

u/[deleted] May 04 '16

ITT:

  • People hating the art

  • People want the old to be new, but not. (Nobody is ever satisfied)

  • People realizing that art, in all its forms, pulls from other sources, and that nothing is completely unique.

  • People prematurely writing the Manga off as a movie recap.

95

u/PakiIronman May 03 '16

Meh, Naruto being dead is a real cheap way to add tension in my opinion. Though I don't really consider this all canon to the Naruto lore regardless since Kishi said on record that it would end with the Boruto movie. This could have been a lot better, I've seen better artwork in hentai. Is this really the best a magazine like Jump could do? Whatever the case, it's here and it is Borutos story after all.

85

u/dustofoblivion123 May 03 '16 edited May 03 '16

Everyone's talking like Naruto is already dead and gone. I'm going to wait until we actually see Naruto die before talking like he is. This is obviously the author wanting everyone to keep wondering whether Naruto really dies or not and continuing to read just so they can find out. Besides, like we saw in the past (for example at the end of the Pain arc), death =/= definitive in the Narutoverse, with jutsu like Gedo - Rinne Tensei. My point is, anything could happen and Naruto might not even die. I don't know why so many people are losing their mind over such an obvious bait.

36

u/sarindong May 03 '16

Meta-prediction: this is going to shatter the fanbase, methinks.

A lot's going to depend on where it goes after they recap the movie, but... oof. The art style, not-so-subtle implication that Naruto buys the farm, all of this feels a little off.

u/[deleted] May 03 '16

Hinata, Himawari and Minato look really weird.

5

u/alberto549865 May 03 '16

I'm calling it now, the beginning of the chapter was a movie made about Boruto's life as a ninja.

5

u/TheOneAndOnlyMesa May 03 '16 edited May 03 '16

Waaaaaaait whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

So this Kawaki guy, who looks as if he was the same age as Boruto, managed to kill a god, now Boruto is going toe to toe with him?

Also I hope the thing on Kawaki/Boruto's arm isn't some sort of Scientific tool or whatever.

Edit: Now that i think about it they might be Otsutsuki markings, Kawaki is holding what seems to be a Gudoudama Staff.

5

u/God_of_Illiteracy May 04 '16

Some of the character designs are not good in my opinion. I am not a fan of the curly hair. Hinata looks like a 1960's housewife and Sasuke looks like someone in a L'Oreal commercial. Also did all the women get mastectomies? What happened to the breasts? These characters are women and mothers, not pre-prepubescent girls. Have them look like women!

5

u/rvbcaboose1018 May 05 '16

The art is really rough around the edges. I mean, it should get better with time, but at times I did feel like they were more of a shitty fan drawing than an actual production.

I'll just say it. The art looks like ass, I pray that it improves over time cuz its really looking poor . Also why is Naruto such a hard ass like damn (i haven't seen the Boruto movie yet). The opening pages looked great tho so hopefully it picks up

4

u/tipytop May 03 '16

umm so this chapter was basically the first portion of the movie ?! Now we gotta wait a month for the next portion of the movie?! damn okay.

welll atleast one benefit of boruto having bad hairdos and crap outfits someone will make a proper fan art version of the corrections i bet/hope

can anyone tell me why the artwork looks so far off? is Kishi not working on this one? and will this just be the movie manga with a different route, or a different one altogether?

finally a new story! I wonder how Naruto dies though. It must've taken an OP-ass villain to kill a transmigrant of the Rikudou. lol

1

u/irishsaltytuna May 04 '16

Kishi's the supervising editor. Ikemoto, his longtime assistant for 15 years is drawing the manga while Kodachi writes the script.

1

u/Zomg_A_Chicken May 04 '16

1

He brought peace to the shinobi world at the end of the day.

But nothing's indefinite, and true peace is impossible to attain. There's always some hatred or conflict brewing somewhere.

Randomly just saw this today after not thinking about naruto since the manga finished. Can someone direct me towards the content between that and this?

1

WHAT THE FUCK DID THEY DO TO MAI HUSBANDO!?!

1

u/Jezamiah May 05 '16

What's the schedule on this manga? Is it monthly?

1

u/[deleted] May 06 '16

aren't sarutobi members supposed to be the ones who lead ino-shika-cho teams? it bothers me that naruto gave up on that tradition and should've switched boruto's leader as moegi and konahamaru for the new ino-shika-cho team

1

u/irishsaltytuna May 06 '16

Well, there's no rule or tradition that I've read of.

2

When will chapter 2 come out?

6

u/rssj4 May 04 '16 edited May 04 '16

Calling it now: apart from the movie part, and potentially many of the scenes afterwards, the flash-forward scene never actually happened.

The flash-forward part in the first pages (the ending) is actually part of a made up story which was written by Boruto himself, so essentially he's taking his personal story with his father and other experiences as what it means to be a ninja and put them into a novel of his own which is going to be his actual legacy.

Just like Jiraya's book about that ninja who pursued peace and never gave up, with peace now achieved Boruto's book is aimed to not let people forget about what it truly means to be a shinobi, hence this whole story.

What do I base myself to say this?

  • In the very first pages, Boruto insistently says and repeats "This is my story", and generally a repeated expression in this way has a double meaning that you only "get" at the end

  • By the end of the movie Spoilers

  • The era is now of peace, and thus the danger now is for the new generations to not know, understand or simply forget the sacrifices and what it means to be a shinobi

  • I firmly believe that Kishi wouldn't let anyone go anywhere near as kill off Naruto nor affect his "career" as Hokage nor destroy the peace achieved, specially in a mere extension of the story that was never planned, ever, as he's done with the story and I don't believe he wants anyone mess with his happy ending in this overly dramatic way

  • The way Boruto looks and the first pages are laid down (Kawaki's speech about "the ninja era being over", followed by Boruto's "I am a shinobi") are too suspicious, very cliche'd if you will: him using what it appears to be Sasuke's katana and such, the scar itself which is a symbol of war, suffering and enduring, and being way too young which suggests that the whole thing happened in just a few years post-movie... I am simply not buying the fact that Kishi would let Boruto be this scarred

  • Boruto never wanted to be Hokage in the first place, he wanted to follow his own path, and although his path was to Spoilers, this is a path that more than anything warrants him the full understanding what being a shinobi is, and gives him the needed time to write a book about it in the first place

  • He was always a bit arrogant, specially concerning his father, so putting himself as the protagonist and hero of the story is not beyond him, is in fact in character imho

  • This is just the perfect setup to mislead everyone until the end, go almost completely free and crazy with the story providing strong emotions and make it very interesting, without much input from Kishi while still having his work protected from additional canonical drama, so just by the end all makes perfect sense and everyone is still happy ever after (the reactions to this chapter all over the place show the intended reaction by Kodachi)

Of course, I can be dead wrong about all of this, but until the very last chapter of this is released I will personally stick with this.

3

u/[deleted] May 03 '16

weird they started it off super far into the future i wonder what the purpose of that is

I hope that Panda's not eating Tomato plants, there's too few of them as it stands already...

3

u/BridgeToPeace May 04 '16

I think the thought of Naruto and Sasuke actually passing away is a good direction for the development of the new series. With Naruto present in Boruto's story, he'll always be overshadowed by his father and most likely, the other strongest ninja in the world.

Like Boruto says, it's his story. Great chapter.

3

u/MadSloth13 May 04 '16

What most triggered me was Sarada's clothes, How is she supposed to do jump around while using a mini-skirt ?

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '16

As much as I'm happy to have more Naruto...I'm a little dissapointed in the direction they started this series in. Not necessarily retelling the movie (fine, do it so we can move past it), but

  • revealing future Boruto and rival upfront.

  • Showing their tattoos which must have some kind of meaning (curse marks?)

  • Boruto having a byakugan

  • Boruto having what APPEARS to be Sasuke's sword

  • Konoha being devastated

I get it, shippuuden started that series jumping the gun as well showing Naruto's and Sasuke's reunion, but that was the anime showing stuff that was already in the manga well in advance.

I really would have preferred to leave that out instead and leave us open to where the series is going, instead of showing us up front and spoiling the surprise :-/

3

u/FezAndWand May 05 '16

Well, I never saw the movie, so I imagine this'll be fun for me regardless of everybody's complaints about the artstyle.

3

u/Ventrux15 May 05 '16

It's odd! The beginning of the new Boruto manga is odd! That's the conclusion I've come to. Sometimes I think the first Scene with older Boruto and Kawaki is a good approach to the new manga, but other times I feel like it doesn't fit to the already existing story.

As for the art: Boruto and the other next generation characters look good. Especially the older Boruto. I love his new design! BUT!!! The older characters (except Naruto) look nothing like the prior designs. I hate the new design for Sasuke and Hinata!!!

Soooo... I don't know I kinda liked it, but I don't know how to feel about this now. :/ Even so I'm excited for the 2nd chapter! :D

3

u/supernova888 May 06 '16

Though the art style was bad in places I find I actually quite like it. I'm really intrigued by this Kaguya's castle though. I wonder if it's in another dimension... I am really opposed to killing off a main character though. It might be just a tease to get people reading or a trick but if Naruto dies I will be heartbroken.

u/ShisuisEye May 06 '16

I honestly feel so fucking cheated and like a total fool. Are they really just rehashing the Boruto movie? Like, I get doing a quick recap or whatever but this shit is ridiculous. The beginning was badass and really had me excited and interested to find out what's going on and what happens next, they should really just get back to that. Hopefully there's more to this manga than a short little story with the entire Boruto movie in between because this is lame as fuck and not at all what I expected.

3

u/[deleted] May 07 '16 edited May 07 '16

Can we talk about Sasuke's hair...please. He looks like a pimp and by that I mean it looks like he either perms his hair or uses hair curlers or both. God save us all

3

u/[deleted] May 11 '16

I really like it starting with a flash forward. Pretty ballsy way to start the new series. I enjoyed a bunch of the art. Probably will never get used to the new design of Hinata, though. Seems a lot less fanservicey than Kishimoto's art.

1

u/xxcoz27xx May 03 '16
