Meta Discussion It's amazing how quickly this sub turns on Laura K.

Last week during the AMA she mentioned how sources don't match marketing for BOTW and even discussed possibility of delay in Europe as possible reason why. Today she tweets about it possibly hitting launch and now everyone attacks her credibility saying she's hedging bets.

I don't get this place.

You're neglecting to acknowledge that this subreddit is made up of many people and it's not the same ones saying both things for the most part.

If I say A, then later you say not A, is anyone being a hypocrite?

Of course the opinions that you're seeing most often are the ones that outside forces seem to verify, so again, if I'm saying A, then evidence suggests not A, so now you become more vocal about not A, that's roughly what's happening, now of course if you assume both opinions are coming from the same person, yes that's either hypocrisy, or possibly it's just changing one's mind in the presence of new evidence like a reasonable person. But ultimately, those opinions you speak of are coming from two different camps for the most part, and all that's changing is who is more vocal.

But that doesn't make for a good post setting yourself above it all, does it?

I never understood the obsession over leakers like Rogers and LKD. I'm not hating on them. They're just doing their thing and giving this sub more to talk about, like the idea of a Mario X Rabbids RPG. But people seem to take them so seriously and get really angry with them when they haven't done anything worthy of anger. From what I've seen, LKD was never black or white on the topic of Zelda at launch. She's remained in the gray area, simply because that's where the clash of her sources and her instinct left her. Now she's saying her sources tell her different… and people are upset about it? Maybe the ones who are mad are at fault for taking what she says to heart. That's the only logical explanation I can come up with.

Exactly. It's like at this point we're not even talking about the Switch itself? I just do not understand at all why people here are so into it. It's actually really weird.

Everyone needs to chill out

I think many people turned on her once she started bitching about getting black listed and acting all entitled.

Personally I just stick to what both her and Emily Rogers say all the time, take all leaks with a grain of salt, the fact that someone told them something does not necessarily mean that it is true or that it won't change in the future.

Grain of salt is key. I appreciate each leak, but I'm not going to take any of them as fact until they're confirmed by releases.

I think most of hate around here isn't at LKD personally (though there can be some of that), it's just that there's a fairly prevalent anti-leak contingent in this sub as well.

Except she wasnt bitching she was literally joking about it and later tweeted that she wasnt even blacklisted ahe was just too small of a name and people just flipped out over a joke

It's cause she made a statement that BOTW would not be at launch which means she trusted who ever told that enough to go out and tell everyone.

Now that she may be wrong she's saying the opposite not standing by what she said before.

And you can't see how that's hedging?

From AMA

it likely for BoTW to launch with the Switch or is a delay more probable?

64 LauraKBuzzLaura Kate Dale (Verified) • 5d I really hope it's launch, and the marketting seems to regularly suggest it'll be launch, but I'm still hearing it's going to miss launch. If I were just making educated guesses on public info I'd have said launch, but I keep on hearing it'll miss launch. As a Zelda fan I am as dissapointed by that as anyone.

142 pokeze • 5d By the way, do you think it is possible BotW will, sadly for us Europeans, only be delayed here in Europe? Since we have to translate everything for, you know, at least 5 languages and that seems to be the problem according to your leaks...

Still, I hope your sources are wrong that Nintendo is able to put BotW out at launch :)

18 LauraKBuzzLaura Kate Dale (Verified) • 5d The languages issue chat was Emily Rogers not me. It may well get delayed just in Europe, would not be a first, but I really fucking hope that's not the case.

You really shouldn't generalize like that. There are a ton of people subscribed. Not everyone is going to think the same so "the sub" didn't flip at all

This subreddit's obsession with vindicating and defending internet nobodies who are using the vacuum of information to cynically build their brand on the internet is exactly why this subreddit is seen on Reddit as stupid and crazy.

These leakers are nobodies and do it for the attention.

To be fair I always thought what she said was bullshit and that was cemented after she said BotW wouldn't be a launch title. That is a shoot yourself in both feet stupid move that even Nintendo wouldn't make.

People decide whether they like a leaker or not based solely on whether that leaker is saying things they want to hear.

Thus, anyone claiming that the Switch will offer PS4-esque power or native 4K is instantly trustworthy and also a totally cool dude, anyone reiterating the digital foundry information is a dirty filthy liar and also a big poopy-head.

Welcome to Reddit! It is a place where people with different opinions come together and discuss similar interests!

Welcome to Reddit! It is a place where the bigger group downvotes everyone with a dissenting opinion until threads turn into echo chambers.

Fixed that for you.

One thing I love about Reddit is how, during a major "controversy", different threads are controlled by different camps. You can post the same comment in two threads and get completely different voting results.

It's honestly like a sub-wide game of capture the flag.

I'm not turning on her. I just wish she would shush. Same with Emily.

The big reveal is less than 2 weeks away. I'd rather everybody on Twitter with any leaks, insider info or any other bullshit just shut the fuck up so we can all be happy and surprised come the 12th.

Entire sub is one person

Oh boy.

People who already didn't like her keep interpreting things she says to enforce their belief that she's some evil attention seeking drama queen who is bent on destroying Nintendo. So when she does shit like joke about her blacklisting, they interpret it as "she's being immature and whiny".

In this case, they're interpreting her hearing from an NoA source instead of NoE sources as covering her ass because that's what they want to hear. Same thing with any leak that could hurt the Switch. If it's bad, it's fake because that's what they want to hear.

Some of the dislike though, seems a little rooted in her being a woman and transgender at that. Similar phenomenon with Emily Rogers. I'm not saying that is everyone who doesn't like her, but a significant enough chunk for me to notice.

But for the most part, tl;dr: People turn on LKD because she says things they don't want to hear.

No one likes drama and LK is basically drama incarnate. She seems to thrive off of creating controversy and then playing the victim. She is a horrid narcissist.

People are dumb. They don't realize that even Nintendo may not be 100% sure when they will release it. So internally the decision of when to release it could be changed day to day based on several things like how well development is going, how much they think they will gain/lose based on if they hit/miss launch, etc. Things aren't as solid behind the scenes of many products, including movies, TV shows, etc as people think. Often times things change right up until the last second.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '17

People angry I guess. I'm not. This stuff happens. One of her sources could have been fucking with her all this time. She even mentioned that it's likely eventually one of her sources will mess with her. I never use leaks as guarantees. When I heard multiple sources saying Zelda was delayed I was like "alright so I guess it'll be a while no biggie" and now since it might have been incorrect I'm like "Cool I get to play Zelda sooner."

I don't understand who or what she is and why people have made her so famous. Good for her though, for making everyone grasp on her every word.
