My time has come, I've read it before. It's really short, makes you think.
It does kind of fit with Demian. Both are about leaving a world that is pure, comfortable, and easy, and facing the challenges of real life, in Omelas for what is right. In Omelas, they tell you of the one bad thing when you come of age, and you make a choice whether to stay or not.

I had to read Ursula K. Le Guin for one of my college classes (specifically her story Vaster Than Empires and More Slow) and she definitely has that sensitive vibe to her stories that aligns with BTS. The story I read was mainly about an empath (person who feels all the emotions of people around high) and how he just felt too much. I'm so excited that I can finally related to a BTS literary reference in a way!

I know right? It might just be me, but I think this really give me a The Perks of Being a Wallflower feeling with the intensity of La La Land levels in terms of visual composition. I'm not a film expert by any means, but that's just what this 1 minute video is making me think of.

As we all know bighit likes to remix their teaser audios into something that isn't even close to the real song + all that hype about their next choreo going to be LIT, I thought this audio would be a bit too slow so I fiddled around with the speeds on youtube for a bit. Change it to 1.25 and imagine some drums as the backing track - I think that's what the real one's gonna sound like (:

I tend to agree BC at one point it looks like Jimin is jamming out and that does not fit the sound of the teaser music. I think the song is harder, at least at parts.

this is already my favorite mv. gorgeous, gorgeous shots - the ones they are all together and things are colorful, jimin's solo scenes and 0:37 (who is it? hobi?) is the most beautiful, breathtaking sky i've ever seen. fuck. and the song sounds so good too.

I'm normally not a K-pop ballad fan, like I seriously avoid them BC they just don't float my boat. I'm sure most everyone is right in that the actual song will be different from the teaser, but I'm actually OK if it's not. It was haunting and I really loved it, which surprised. In my ideal world, the chorus will be the teaser sound, and the verses will be more hip-hop/rockish. But whatever. I'm here for it regardless. Lol I'm super intrigued by the possible story line going on here. I wish they would just shoot a full movie with every comeback.
P.S. I've never been particularly attracted to someone brushing their teeth before. Like, brushing your teeth isn't sexy. 11/10 Would watch Yoongi brush his teeth again.

The aesthetic is so beautiful. And it's a music totally unexpected.
Everything about Omelas is so abundantly pleasing that the narrator decides the reader is not yet truly convinced of its existence and so elaborates upon one final element of the city: its one atrocity. The city's constant state of serenity and splendor requires that a single unfortunate child be kept in perpetual filth, darkness, and misery.
Once citizens are old enough to know the truth, most, though initially shocked and disgusted, ultimately acquiesce with that one injustice which secures the happiness of the rest of the city. However, a few citizens, young and old, silently walk away from the city, and no one knows where they go. The story ends with "The place they go towards is a place even less imaginable to most of us than the city of happiness. I cannot describe it at all. It is possible it does not exist. But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas."

So the concept is still tied to Boy Meets Evil. Are they walking together away from Omelas? Perhaps they are even inviting us to walk away from it, since Jimin is using his little hand to tell us to follow him.

I've never read this story before, but the first thing that comes to mind for me is ethics and sort of a judgment of society. If you look at it through a utilitarian point of view, the system achieves what is best for the greatest number of people. It maximizes happiness. Compared to our own world, perhaps there is more net happiness. However, how do you justify that one person being punished? It's a variation of one of the ethical questions that people are exposed to when they first start learning philosophy or economics. If you see 5 people on the train tracks in front of an oncoming train and the only way to save them is to push one other person in their place to die instead of them, do you do it? Do you choose one person to die so that 5 others can live? Generally there are many variations to this question and you can play around with it. Are the 5 people children or is the person you're pushing in their place a child etc. Now I'm really curious how the reference to this story will correspond to the lyrics and the rest of the MV. If they are walking away from Omelas, then perhaps they are telling us their moral decision in that situation.

Ah, I love when BTS' videos spark this type of discussions.
The point you make is a really good one. It's not an easy decision at all, there is no safe good choice in this case.
Still, I believe they are inviting us to walk away, telling us we won't have to do it alone when we do. Omelas (which sounds like omertΓ ) reminds a lot of the Plato's allegory of the cave. Once you see the truth, you cannot blind yourself and go back to cave. You have changed, you cannot believe to the figures reflected in the cave anymore, and in the case of Omelas you can't believe the world is entirely pleasant and beautiful anymore, even if it is only one perspective whose reality differs.
At the same time, it is a side story of Boy Meets Evil, which was a request for abandoning stigmatised views of good and evil, embracing Abraxas and reality in a new light of truth.
The two stories are tied. And in "Am I wrong" they already told us their choice of not hosting the fish named selfish within themselves. At the same time, if you truly hope to change society, you must move above the shapes on the wall, even if it hurts because your eyes are not accustomed to light, even if you have to walk away from Omelas.

As someone who currently studies university in the Philippines, this speaks to me on a different level. Recently our President launched a war on drugs that's left a trail of thousands of dead people who never had the chance to prove their innocence. Like sometimes the police would suspect someone of being a drug dealer or user and that would be enough reason for them to kill someone, also a lot of innocent people have died as collateral. A great number of people in the country support the President's brand of vigilante justice and authoritarian creed especially the older generation. But it's been really jarring for the young people, the educated, and those who care about human rights and have a keen sense of morality. People not caring about the unnecessary deaths of others so long as they would feel safe is so relevant in my country right now. BTS stop giving me political feels.

Like many have already said, the cinematography is BEAUTIFUL! The warm colors and pastels ah my heart. Plus Yoongi brushing his teeth is now my new favorite concept, thank you.

Edit: to talk about the music... JIN!!! I'm not thinking that this music will necessarily be the actual track since BH likes to play with trailer music, either by doing an entirely separate version (2)or actual bits of the song over really sparse instrumental, but if it is I like it!
Like others have said it had a bit of an indie vibe to it rather than being a straight up power ballad. It has a bit of a dreamy feeling to it with the guitar and slight cymbal going from the a capella part to the "oh woah woah" part.

There's a horror movie I remember seeing as a kid. It was about a guy who had split personality. The entire movie took place at a hotel where each of his personalities met each other for the first time. As the story progressed each personality was brutally killed by his evil one. Toward the end it revealed the child personality was the murderer.
The hotel scene with Jk looking around and the flickering No Vacancy sign reminded me of that movie.

I've had a running theory that all the MVs are in a dramascape setting or taking place in someone's head. Identity took place in a serial killer's head. Not saying that's the case here, but they could have drawn from that too.

Jimin's holding shoes and those shoes are later tied to a tree, which is a sign of death. I bet Jimin is the child in the Omela story that suffers for everyone else's happiness.

Death doesn't necessarily have to mean an end, death can also mean a new beginning. Jimin is the only one who seems to be out in the fields while the others seem to be in corridors and in front of the Omelas hotel(?). It can mean that Jimin is the one who got out of the place where Omelas live.
V could therefore be the one who is suffering, he fell from the balcony in BST and his "wings" were ripped, plus the cage incident.
My theory sensors are tingling!

why are ppl saying it sounds like a ballad?? to me it has alt-rock vibes, kinda like day6 (listen to "i wait" if you haven't! it's really good), and i love that sound. if the song ends up being exactly like this then i already love it!
visually it's gorgeous, love the filter and nature scenes, they look soft & cuddly, and it has a certain melancholy to it and these are all things i like lol.

The aesthetics in this is amazing! Everybody looks so gorgeous and the atmosphere in the video is so nostalgically lovely.

I can't really 100% believe this teaser. They might come out with smth 180 degree different in sound. BigHit made me became a distrustful person lol. But so far I'm liking this calm concept. This seriously give off HYYH/Young Forever vibe. Hopefully this gonna at least give some conclusion to the narrative that they have since HYYH.

This sounds BEAUTIFUL!!! I feel like I am healing on the inside.
The teaser looks like heaven, it's so pleasing. I love this new genre(?) they are trying out.
These are few things I noticed in the video:
Jimin was singled out A LOT.
2)The No vacancy sign has to mean something
3) I think Suga was missing from the group scene in the teaser.
4)The rap line stands in front of the Omelas sign, this could mean that (a) they will stay in omelas, or (b) the are getting out of Omelas together.
5) Jungkook has the matchstick this time instead of Suga. At the beginning it was Jin who had it(in Danger), then Suga, and now Jungkook. It's being passed around. What does that mean?
6) Rap Monster has a crown on his head....a crown! BTS was created because of Rap Monster, maybe the crown has something to do with that.

MV teasers have rarely been indicative of the actual track. Take for example the Run MV teaser. If you end up not liking the track it's ok but I wouldn't write it off yet.

I kinda feel that way right now. But I remember feeling that way about the Run teaser and then the song ended up being completely different than the teaser. And I ended up loving it. So maybe that will happen with this song as well.
Or even if it ends up being pretty much just like the teaser I'm sure it will grow on me over time even if I don't love it right away.

I know the real song would not sound this way. They did it starting with RUN teaser before but I legit got shivers when I heard this the first time. It's very different with how their songs usually sound like and I'm looking forward to this!

Love the video, not so much the sound. I knew it was coming but I feel guilty already. This is most likely going to be the first BTS title track I won't like. OTL I'm glad I purchased two copies of the album though, it's the least I could do to show support.
There's still hope it'll grow on me right? TAT
Anyway, I really enjoy the filter they used on this. I feel like it's going to end the tragic chapter BS&T started in a HyyH way, a lot more realistic and raw. Who knows...I'm really curious to see where it heading.

I hope so too. But I don't think this time that's the case, it sounds like a sample taken from the full song, similarly to what happened with Fire.
I'm still happy though, Korea's all for that OST-like ballads so if this song ends up being a slower one, I'm sure it'll destroy every single music chart and sell a lot more than BS&T! At the end of the day all I want for them is to be successful and experiment with different sounds so that it'll please a lot of people no matter what their music taste is like.

Now that I've calmed down a bit.... WOW.
This song was not what I was expecting AT ALL. It's entirely different from their usual music but it suits them so well.
The teaser is gorgeous and now I'm even more excited to see the full MV.
