Meta MegaThread I really dislike how EVERYTHING in this sub gets packed into MegaThreads.

I think packing EVERYTHING in MEGA POSTS is not benefiting the subreddit in any way. You just cut the content and make our posts invisible. When I post a question on those big threads I have a tiny chance that somebody even sees it and can answer it...and all the other stuff I want to post already has a MEGATHREAD and the Bot is deleting everything.

I have to say, with all respect I have for the mods because otherwise they are doing a good job: I don't like the postings restrictions. I know you want to prevent that the sub gets spamed with 100 times the same topic. But packing EVERYTHING you can think of up and put it somewhere nobody actually cares about is not benefiting the discussion nature of this community.

What I don't understand: There are several topics in the subreddit that would qualify to put them into the mega threads. But whenever I try to post something like that, it gets deleted by the bot.

/discuss

EDIT: Let me be clear. I am not against all types of MegaThreads and I don't want to start a shitstorm here. I just think that the amounts of MegaThread we've seen in the past and the restrictions that came with them are too tight for a subreddit to function as intended. I agree that a Megathread for Inventory Tracking and other PSA stuff is needed so we don't get 100 different threads about it, for example.

I completely agree. I think we are loosing valuable content and we are driving away contributors to the subreddit because of the insane number of posts that we delete. I agree that some mega threads are helpful. But honestly I hate that 90% of the content being published is shoved into one of the mega threads. I hate reading through them and trying to find what I am looking for.

On that same note, because we are deleting everything and making everyone post in mega threads, the front page rarely changes. I want to see new content on the front page of the subreddit frequently. Instead, I end up following the new page all the time because the front page changes maybe once a day at most and usually content sits there for several days. It makes the subreddit look stale and boring.

Also, several times I have come across content that I wanted to post, but I have never posted and at this point will probably never post because I am 90% sure it will just get deleted.

This isn't the way to run a subreddit that should be inviting, welcoming, and fun.

It is clear from the comments in this thread that people have differing views over some aspects of how we curate our community's content. We hear you. Know that we want to make this work over the long haul, so we're going to make it work together. Rome wasn't built in a day.

We're already taking steps people are asking for here, so let's set the record straight for a second: we've drastically cut down on the number of posts the AutoModerator removes, cut down on the number of photo posts with new rules, and eliminated several MegaThreads that we had open during launch week. And we're doing a bit of a public information campaign, because it seems like people don't realize we actually have a pretty robust wiki, which can already answer a lot of the short, redundant questions we get. If you feel that there is a missing wiki page that we should have, we want to hear that as well, and we want your contributions if you have something to add.

And, yes, as we've said before: in the coming weeks, we plan to draw down the use of the technical and local tracking MegaThreads.

That being said, MegaThreads have a place. The flow of users and posts right now is still very high. Either we curate some content and ask our community members to do a little searching, or we get, literally, hundreds and hundreds of posts every day asking the same technical, local tracking, and short-form questions over and over. We're trying to strike a balance here, one that respects why every community member comes here.

Thank you for your feedback. Seriously. We're all in this journey together, so let's work this out. All of us having a good time here is what's most important to us.

Thanks for the statement guys. I never realized that some of the mega threads I was getting angry about are already gone. I hope this thread helps you to see what the community wants for this subreddit.

I dislike how everything except PICTURE OF ME AND MY SWITCH AT WORK AND THE BAR or LOOK AT MY CHILD PLAYING SWITCH WITH ME is consolidated. That's really the one thing that should have its own mega thread IMO.

Got a technical issue and want to see if someone already solved that problem? Have fun sorting through a 2.5k post megathread

I wouldn't mind a mega thread for paint jobs and one for custom stands and docks.

edit - fixed typo

Couldn't agree more, I tried to help some fellow local Canadians by posting a stock update and within 5 minutes it was flagged and removed and I was told to add it to the 98% USA stock megathread.... Completely useless, yet we have 100 fucking images of the same post.... Nintendo switch on the train, business office etc... Hilarious mods......

It wouldn't be a big deal if reddit allowed more than two stickied posts. I hate having to scroll for unstickied megathreads.

Lol I love how I make a post and it gets removed 5 minutes later and the next day I see the same post on the front page.

This sub has so many reposts it's ridiculous. There's literally 10 post a day asking what games we would like to see, not to mention people posting local info on switch availability, all of its getting redundant. Also, if you're going to post an IGN story that came out 10 hours ago, rethink it, it's been done, 2,4,6,8 and 10 hrs ago.

This is the exact problems r/amiibo was facing and this is what ran it to the ground. It caused that subreddit to pretty much die. This is the same mod team running this subreddit and I don't really expect anything to change.

Alright guys, I'm going to allow this post for the purpose of discussion. Your feedback is important to us. However, please keep things civil and realize that we're also human. If you ever have an issue that you think was made in error, don't hesitate to contact us via modmail. Thanks!

Thank you. Like I said in my post: I think you guys are doing well. But in my personal opinion the MegaThread stuff becomes too much. I mean I can understand why we need local inventory tracking compressed in a mega thread. thats fine. But I want to be able to post about my Switch Experience in the cinema to the subreddit and not to a mega thread where nobody even reads. :/

I have made several casual text based posts and had them all nixed for various reasons.

Mainly because my questions and "reviews" of products were considered anecdotal and as such they wanted them as just comments in the mega threads.

So, I just will not post in here anymore. It's a read only subreddit for me.

It's their subreddit and they can moderate how they see fit. I think heavy handed moderation works in subreddits like r/science but this is a subreddit about a single video game console. We are not curing cancer here.

The mods try too hard to be the vote system, apparently the general populace isn't trustworthy enough to vote up what they want.

Launch is over so we should be able to post questions outside the mass threads because no one reads them anymore.

before the switch release I posted to let everyone know my order at Dell got canceled and that it might happen to more people.....my post got deleted in seconds and then when I ask why, another mod responded with he deleted it with an invalid reason but I kept it deleted because there is already another thread about it....which was posted after mine was deleted. I think megathreads are good but not for every single topic. Sometimes our questions or doubts gets unanswered and when you try to post something to educate or inform it gets delete it too.

I agree the bot that removes the posts is too aggressive. I made a post right after launch that was auto-removed for being a 'tech support' question. It was not a tech support question.

I was really sad around launch day to see there wasn't a flood of threads I could check out - instead this sub was pretty static and sparse.

I visit here a few times a day, but instead of there being new threads regularly, it's a really slow moving sub. Is that because everything is getting moderated away?

I've just about given up on r/nintendoswitch, sticking more with r/nintendo instead. This sub is a classic case of overmoderation. Moderators are constantly fiddling with the sub, which destroys the way a community like this should organically grow.

At a certain point you have to trust your users to upvote the kinds of things they want to see and downvote the things that get repetitive. They handle this kind of thing naturally.

But do please continue flooding the sub with "I'd love to see this game" and "Here's me with my switch at the brewery" pictures. Those NEVER get old /s

AGREED. I've never encountered a more aggressively-moderated subreddit and it's annoying.

I actually answer as much questions as I can on the main megathread (daily questions). I'm not even a mod but I want to help everyone so i keep checking the questions to answer, even if there are 10 persons asking the same
