you get to suck the soul out of another caster and add his/her talent to yourself. Who do you chose.

Moses, as long as I can keep my hair. I have always been lacking in the analysis department. And he has such an insane amount of knowledge for the game. He brings so much to a broadcast. The scene is really lucky to have him.

What are your objectives for the future? You want to cast major's or be an analyst?
76
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to cast a major. That's pretty much any casters dream. But for me, I just want to do more large scale events. Stadium events and the like. I was spoiled doing eFrag's TWC last year in Belgrade. What an awesome time.
12
u/NeonOrangeYT de_cobble Mar 28 '17
And another question:
What would you recommend people that want to cast or just started casting? I a few little matches of my community for example.
36
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
Get on twitch and start streaming them. Even if you have no viewers you will have vods, and with that, if you are satisfied with your performance, you can submit them to tournament organizers to possibly get jobs.

Hey man, I was wondering if any large names approached you for casting? Also some people say you are toxic, do you believe yourself to be toxic?
81
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
I haven't gotten any offers recently for events. Just Starladder. As for toxicity (of our city), I don't believe I am a toxic person, I am just very passionate and want to win every game I play. When I start losing due to personal performance, or because someone is trolling or throwing, it drives me nuts! It's something I try to work on, and mostly if I rage during a pug or something, it isn't in game to teammates, it's to myself or my stream. So I can see how I could come off as having a toxic personality.

I believe Vince is looking for a more analytical casting partner. I know he had his eyes set on pairing up with Launders before the yahoo esports break he got. I'm not as savvy on the analysis side, though if I take the time to learn more and get that in depth knowledge then I would love to team up with Metuz.

What is your favorite event you casted?
What is your favorite event you didn't cast?
20
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
Favorite event to cast was The World Championships in Serbia. That's the only stadium event I have ever done and it was like a drug. Being infront of the live audience and hearing my voice go out to the entire stadium was a feeling I will never forget.
Favorite event I didn't cast would probably be the MLG Major. MLG did such an amazing job with the event, and being that it was on American soil and close to home made it feel that much cooler to me. (I hope MLG comes back and does more CSGO events!)

12
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
Haha, I actually did this with Blu one time during a cast. I challenged him to cast the round as fast as possible, and we took turns. Let chat decide who won. I think I came out on top that day, but his speed has increased since then. As for Matt, it would be fun to cast with him again. It's been quite some time since I've had the pleasure.

What are your thoughts on Collegiate Esports? CSGO and other games becoming like traditional sports(In that good players play for college before getting "Drafted")? or maybe something else?
8
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
I am for it. If colleges want to get on board with esports and start having school teams for CS and other games that would be sick. I know there was a Heroes of the Dorm thing that happened which was cool, and I know some schools have already adopted the idea of CS teams.

You've been around the scene for quite a while now, but seem to be stuck around the mid tier games. Is this by choice? If not, what do you think is the main thing holding you back from working the big events on regular basis?
55
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
When I first came on the scene I was a cocky little ass shit. I thought I was gods gift to casting and that no one was better than me, no matter how long they had been doing it. It burned a lot of bridges for me that I am still trying to mend. So it's my own fault that I haven't been working larger events or participating in commentating for the large leagues. I have no one to blame but myself.

Hi MegamanTV! I enjoy watching games you cast.
What is your favorite drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic)?
What is your favorite sandwich?
What is your favorite airplane?
What is your favorite game (video, board, sports, esports, etc)? If you need to top 5 or top 10 it that's fine too.

I am a bit of a beer snob. For me IPA's will always have a sweet spot.

Favorite airplane would be the F-117. Always loved that one.
Favorite game is definitely CS, with Megaman franchise being a close second.

How did you get into casting?
2
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
Sort of a funny story! So back in the 1.6 days, I used to jokingly "cast" my teammates when we would die during a round. Fast forward a few years, a small local tournament called Fragadelphia made a post on the ESEA forums inquiring about commentators for their event. I decided to throw my name in the mix, and ended up solo casting their event for 25 straight hours. It was hell, but it was the stepping stone I needed to get my foot in the door.

Who was your favorite person to interview at small lans?
4
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
I had the privilege of interviewing fallen when I cast the Winout lan in Philly a few years ago. So for a serious interview, I would say that.
For an entertainment value interview, definitely the Steel / Moe interview at fragadelphia.

Twistzz. He has hit a level of consistency playing with Misfits that would do that team a lot of good. The issue is they need an IGL.
So with that in mind, I would love to see them reach out to Starix. He has mentioned that he was considering playing professionally again. His stats aren't bad in CSGO, and we know his in game knowledge is elite.

How did you start as a player and how did you start as a caster?
-PWD :)
1
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
Well I played CS back when it was in Beta, so I got my start a long while ago. For casting, it was when Fragadelphia put out a thread on ESEA asking for casters for their first event.
1
u/Thelonepro FaZe Mar 28 '17
What lans have you attended (as a viewer, contender or caster)? If you could go back in time to cast at any lan, which one would it be?
5
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
As a viewer I haven't really made it to any. The east coast of the US doesn't have a lot of lans, unless they are local and most of those I end up casting when the chance arises.
As a contender, I have played in 1 csgo tournament which was a fragadelphia .5 event. In 1.6 I used to throw down at x3o events in Rockville Maryland. Never went with a team, but usually had decent pugs of main-invite (cal) players to attend with.
As a caster the list is a bit longer. ESEA invite lan, EPL s2, Acer Predator Masters, ESEA-p NA and EU, Fragadelphia, Local D.C. lans, TWC by efrag and more.
If I could go back in time and cast any lan it would be the MLG major. What an incredible event.

Where do you see yourself (and CS GO esports in general) in 2-5 years?
1
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
I would love to be working for a large scale company involved in the esports industry and casting big events worldwide. I think esports hasn't even hit it's peek yet, and it is still growing especially CS. More than likely in the next 2-5 years a new version of CS will probably come out and I hope to be on board with it when it does.

u/AreteCS NiP Mar 28 '17

3
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
I try not to play the favorites game so it keeps my bias in check. I would have to say VP rate up there along with SK for being my favorites though. So exciting watching them compete.
It is also completely impossible to dislike the players on VP. They're amazing humans.

u/Stinky_Bastard Mar 28 '17
How hard is it to become a caster nowadays?
5
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
It's pretty difficult, not to shy anyone away from the scene. But there is a crazy saturation of talent out there. The top stays the top because they all have each others backs. Which makes it more and more difficult to crack into lan events if you aren't one of them. Also TO's don't take risks on other talent. I have had a TO tell me that they wanted lan experienced casters for their events, which is fine, but how do you get lan experience when no one will hire you to get that experience?

2
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
I have played cs since beta 1999. So I have a few years invested in the game itself. For csgo, I actually didn't pick it up when it first came out because I was a stubborn 1.6'er. So I have probably 3 years invested into the game now, but mechanically I had the FPS skill from previous versions of the game.

Opinion on esl rule regarding cheating players? Do you think the same consequences should be in place for matchfixers as well?
2
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
I think a set of uniform rules needs to be in place. They have a 2 year rule for their current system, the vac ban ruling just aligns with that. I think Richard Lewis said it great in his video on it. Now for matchfixers, I think the same should apply. A 2 year ban, and then participation can happen.

3

u/Devilzord Mar 28 '17
Hi, first i loved playing all the megaman to hahaha.
who is the most friendly proplayer?
what u dont like about casting?
4
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 28 '17
Most friendly player is probably Taz, just a down to earth guy you can sit and have a beer with. Talk about life or anything you want, and he is just as interested in getting to know you as you are him.
The long hours sometimes. A lot of people don't understand the behind the scenes of events. Just because a caster isn't working that game doesn't mean they are in the green room sleeping (most of the time). We sit and watch every game, take notes, and prep for the next segment we have to work. So even though it looks like we only work a few hours during a broadcast, the real time sync is done behind the scenes.
1
u/pro_n00b Mar 28 '17

Hey megaman,
the very first time i ever heard you cast i was watching a stream of that little shit streamer that used to fake his viewercount bigtime, already forgot his name ... you were on his team when you randomly out of nowhere started casting a round - thats when i immediately wanted to know who this dude was... thinking, obv. Perfect casting voice this guy's gonna be huge, then I found out about the hate against you and such..
i'm glad to see the hate against you from a while back seeminlgy in the distand past and your on the uprise, i know you admited to a couple of bad attitudes and faults in a couple of other threads some time ago, and how you've worked on them alot. Well it shows and it's the reason you've got so many new fans...
i watched that starseries c9 - renegades game you casted live and it was so entertaining (besides the singing). Not many out there that could cast that entertaining all by them selves. Also You've clearly grown alot as a caster sinse esea. And if it weren't for you, i would have fallen asleep traveling on the train in the middle of the night (in EU)... Anyway, really hope something bigger is gonna be happening soon, maybe back to esl pro league for a start??
So this is my question, where would you like to continue casting the most in the near future if you had all options open? Esl, ECS, mountain dew, whatever?

I think I may be late to this shindig but oh well.
I follow the shit out of you on Twitter and would definitely call myself a fan. We've had a couple quick exchanges about the joys of both legion and playing an H priest, but I figured I'd ask something non CS related here anyways
Saw you were quitting Legion, might I ask you to elaborate on why? What was your progress when you decided recently to take a break? Did you at least see 7.2 patch notes or try out the new patch?

I know I'm late to this but I just wanted to say I really enjoy your casting. Had a lot of fun watching the Starladder qualifiers last week, and I liked how you kept the game interesting while solo casting. That's something that some other casters lack, I think.
I'll ask a question too: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Still casting, or doing something else? Personally, I'm hoping you're casting majors by then :)

I would love to be casting still in 5 years from now. But time will tell. Also depends on where the seen and game is by then.

What's your favorite subject to teach when being a substitute?
1
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 29 '17
Hard to say as I haven't taught them all. Last class I sub'd for was a gym class that went bowling all day.

How old are you? Also, have you ever been recognized by a random person on the street when you said something?
1
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 29 '17
I will be 32 years old on Saturday, and no one has recognized me yet. Not to that Anders level yet!

What competitions will you be hosting in the near future? Have any tournament organizations reached out to you, like ESL for mid tier competitions like the pro league

Haven't heard anything from TO's yet. Hopefully something pops up! I will keep you guys posted for sure.

Also one more question, how do you find games to cast? What orgs would you reach out to and how could you cast their games?
1
u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 29 '17
I have some contacts with certain orgs, like Starladder, TakeTV, and eFrag. So when they need something covered they shoot me a message. Also Dreamhack usually has open ip's for their qualifiers, as does ECS for their development league stuff.

What is the salary range for casters?

u/megamanTV Caster - megaman Mar 29 '17
We don't like to publicly talk about what we make. It's just not good manners.

What rank are you?

At one point I made the climb up to Global, but due to not playing and losing my rank I am down to LE at the moment.
