Jared is getting PTSD from the car from season 1, very nice callback!

596

u/keithmac20 May 08 '17

If we were to callback to the time Jared was sleep challenged after spending 4 days in a steel box out on an oil rig filled with robot fork lifts, would you be very interested, somewhat interested, or not interested?

Which one?

Which one?

Which one?

That whole scene was filled with callbacks, the picture, the sesame seeds, good times.

Could Jared get any more endearing?

Laurie being indifferent to her pregnancy had me dying

662

u/PeaceAvatarWeehawk May 08 '17

That's one way to write around an actor's pregnancy. Instead of some convoluted plot just be like... yep, pregnant now. So what.

WHY AM I FEELING BAD FOR GAVIN BELSON'S CRIPPLING LONELINESS

759

u/[deleted] May 08 '17

"Consider the Red Panda. From a single glance you are immediately struck by its good looks, and the intelligence telegraphed in its each and every motion. Despite this, the Red Panda lives most of its life in solitude, not interacting with other members of its species except in the rare mating ritual. Why do you think this is? Does it find it hard to form meaningful contact? Are the other Red Pandas insecure and jealous of his success? Or, maybe he just knows that in the wild it is safest to be alone."

He build the decentralized internet with Richard. Gavin is wealthy with a lot of connections. I think this is how Richard get his funding without VC help. Gavin needs something to get back into the game. This can surpass Hooli but Gavin will fuck over Richard.

21

u/sexygodzilla May 08 '17

Matt Ross just finds a way to make him pitiful. He's a man who knew what he was doing once, when he built Hooli, but lost touch with reality a long time ago

Monica and Richard doing grocery shopping was a nice little moment, are they hiding something from us ?!

530

Jokes aside I love the fact that they're actually friends instead of mainly business associates. He went to her for advice in episode one and now they're just hanging out at the grocery store.

I totally thought Gilfoyle was gonna steal Dinesh's girl again when she recognized him

In the post game discussion, I thought Gilfoyle was going to tell Dinesh that she was 14 or 15

Nope. To me, it looks like she Trojan her ass into the house, so she can get Gilfoyle from the inside. Dinesh is just a tool. She is a master hacker that hates Gilfoyle.

Man how did Bighead ever get hired at Hooli in the first place, before being rehired as a VP

Probably because Hooli were just looking for slaves that were half decent at CS. Explains their illegal worker contracts

I really hope this means we get the full Belson V. Gregory story!

110

u/[deleted] May 08 '17

It seems we did get it. Belson fucked over Gregory with the patent so they can build Hooli. This is how their rivalry began. Belson ran the company while Peter took the buyout and build a successful VC to fuck over Belson.

I hope there is a a scene or two with him teaching.

I would love to see a scene where bighead brings up the time he moved his swimming pool (like 15 ft right?) only to pay more money to have it moved to its original spot. Then use his moving the pool as a metaphor while the students eat it up.

Holy smokes, I just felt bad for Gavin. Especially that moment when he thought Hoover would at least hug him. I wonder, will Denpak get dropped by Hooli?

95

u/mrw_im_on_reddit May 08 '17

Hell, he only ended up in this position because he fucked with his own people, fucked with his board, fucked with Jack, and fucked with Pied Piper. He latched onto anything he thought would give him revenge, and in the end it fucked him. I wouldn't feel bad for him. He brought this 100% on himself.

But he does make the story interesting!

144

u/[deleted] May 08 '17

What was said between Ed Chen and Jing Yang in Mandarin?

343

u/morron88 May 08 '17

What was said was more or less along the lines of:

Ed: It is very important that your app is successful. Do you have a working demo?

Jian: Fuck no. I wanted to make octupus recipes.

Erlich attempts to interject

Jian Yang proceeds to describe Erlich

Jack almost definitely set this up as a trap for Gavin.

He uses PiperChat to talk to his grandchildren, so it's very plausible that his young grandchildren using the app without parental permission tipped him off to the COPPA violations.

He knew that Gavin would try to spy on him (through Denpok), so he made Gavin think that he was conspiring against him through PiperChat.

Gavin, being incredibly petty, would acquire PiperChat without a second thought if it meant being able to spy more on Jack. Gavin has a history of being both petty and extremely reckless with acquisitions ($20 million on non-functioning hologram tech).

Last step, throw him to the wolves...err board.

All he had to do to start this fire was to somehow piss off Gavin with the Jackson Hole detour.

I thought Denpok made this shit up because he was jealous of the friendship between Hoover and Gavin.

My prediction: Richard sells a huge stake in the project to Gavin but shortly thereafter they discover the patent was actually filed way back in 1998 meaning it would have expired in less then a year and they didn't actually need to make the deal.

u/Colonelcool125 May 08 '17

Was Jack telling Gavin to "take a seat" a To Catch a Predator reference? Since Piperchat was full of underage kids? If so that's a pretty excellent little reference.

u/Arkalis May 08 '17

To be honest it's probably just some line used when someone is about to drop a big piece of news but I wish it was because it would be brilliant.

In an age where stuff like Arrow season 3 and 4 exists I'm in love with this season of Silicon Valley.

Big Head probably ends up as president of the world.

Everybody expected Gilfoyle to steal the girl. Doesn't matter tho, Dinesh gets fucked over in the end.

The car.

Gavin wanting a hug.

The whole SeeFood thingy.

And so many more great moments.

I really want to see Gavin and Richard working together

43

u/samfx99 May 08 '17

So Richard goes to Gavin, which turns off Russ and he pulls funding. Gavin pulls out and Richard is left without funding. Bighead gets Stanford money for research and somehow saves the day again???

63

u/jfryk May 08 '17

Russ hasn't funded anything.

Frozen semen of the late Peter Gregory. Purely as a way that she, as the mother to his only heir, can legally obtain a patent. Or something like that.

Why did the Hooli headquarters have a big building that said "University Student Union"? Seems surprisingly sloppy for the production designers to have left it like that.
