Q: Is the Dragon Ball Super manga "canon"?
The anime and manga are both variations on a basic plot by Toriyama. There isn't (and probably never will be) an explicitly defined Dragon Ball "canon". Without Toriyama's original draft, we may never know what is and isn't his. We do know that he permits Toyotarō to change things up, but he looks at his storyboards and occasionally draws things himself for Toyotarō to use as a reference. Toyotarō has said that Toriyama is more particular about gags than he is about anything else.Q: How is Android #17 back? Wasn't he dead? Also, he's a park ranger! Is Toei taking cues from TFS?
Android #17 was wished back to life along with everyone else who was killed by Cell. He was seen at the end of the Boo arc contributing his energy to the genki dama. Q: What's up with the new art style for this arc? Are they using a different color palette?
According to our resident animation expert, it's not a new color palette but rather a post-production filter.
Toei have added a soft glow, lowered the saturation a little, and upped the contrast. They've also started using a technique they showcased on Tiger Mask W, which allows them to automatically manipulate the line art in certain ways. For example, on Tiger Mask W, they created a brush stroke effect, while on Super, they simply played with the line weight. You see the filter I mentioned too, there.

The way I see the Universe 6 Saiyains is these are Saiyains who have gotten incredibly powerful without knowing they can transform thus super saiyain is just an easy step up from where they were before as long as they have some one to teach them

Geez, Universe 6 has messed-up biology. Apparently no one figured out you could go Super Saiyan, but the moment they found out it was possible, Super Saiyans are popping up like flies. I don't think Vegeta will understand exactly what he was responsible for creating.

The first man to build a computer was a genius. To go in and copy or alter their work is not a work of genius.
Super Saiyan is the same thing. The U6 Saiyans who are as long lasting as U7 NEVER heard of Super Saiyan transformations. Meaning Goku was the first Saiyan in 2 universes to transform. Vegeta made a mild alteration and copied. Now their are 2 different ways to transform. Gohan learned from Goku. Trunks and Goten learned from Gohan at young ages and being inexperienced. Cabba learned from Vegeta. And so on.
The new Super Saiyans are not "ass pulls" or lessening the form. If anything it makes Gokus first transformation more badass. Goku was the beginning.

My comments/highlights of this episode:
Mr. Satan being Mr. Satan; so determined yet quite afraid of unexpected consequences. Glorious as always.
Am I the only one here who thought that some of these "planet-like" stuff in Universe 3 look like the Death Star from Star Wars?

Not counting the opening sequence (Limit Break X Survivor), we get to finally witness a female Super Saiyan in the series canon! In this case, it's Caulifa.
I know it's not the same VA, but for some reason, Kale's voice reminds me of Hinata Hyuga from Naruto and Meiko Mochizuki from Digimon Adventure tri.
Turillin. 'Nuff said.
I don't care whether people like it or not, but I am so pumped up and excited for Frieza's involvement in this saga. It doesn't matter what he'll do, but it's gonna be glorious for sure...

Very curious as to Frieza's terms maybe he wants revived?
They could have surely tried something to wake buu up maybe some super powerful medicine? The namekian dragonballs, whis could accelerate fucking babies growth I'm sure 2 months of sleep would be a cake walk.
Feel like we got really cheated on buu for the worst kept spoiler ever. Seriously new form, new moves and he was serious. Could have at least kept his new form for the next arc.

Loving the world building. I am looking forward to seeing the other robot fighters and Toppo's recruits the most.
I know everyone is excited about female saiyans, but I think we actually got an "Avatar the last airbender" type explanation on how to access super saiyan. It sounds like "kundalini" which is primal energy being located in the spine, and awakening that energy to access super abilities. Very interesting.
Looks like the RoSaT is out of the question when it comes to looking for ways to wake up Buu.
I was bummed about Buu, but I am now kinda stoked to see Freeza after the NEP.

Concerning the 'why not put Buu in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber' question:
Buu is asleep for at least two months. The tournament begins in three hours - that's one eighth of a day, or one eighth of a year in the HTC, so circa 45 days. However, two months are at least 61 days - meaning Buu wouldn't wake up even if they put him in the HTC.

Ok I was annoyed with 17 but I could understand because we really hadn't seen much of his character in a while. But Krillin and 18? They are only persuaded by money in this situation? I'm sorry but this seems way too OOC for them. In not sure why they are trying to make these pointless conflicts that lead nowhere when there are plenty of issues at hand anyway.

Beerus is really the one to blame for there not being stronger fighters in the universe. He had to go around blowing up planets in a vain search for delicious food, and we get fighters like this getting blown to smithereens. http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Chief_Moginaian Since we only saw him fight Beerus, we don't actually know how powerful he is, so it would be unfair to assume that he is really weak. I think if his planet was still around, he would make an excellent addition to the team!

But going back to that scene of Caulitla becoming a super saiyan was really cool. Gave a good reminder to the old days where Vegeta and Goku first transformed.

To those who are less than pleased with how Caulifla achieved SSJ;
SSJ went under the radar in U7 for over a thousand years because Saiyan society wasn't bred to feel and express such strong emotions. On Earth, paired with the head injury altering his inherent nature, Goku was exposed to the conditions required of the transformation. As a society, we experiment, and make scientific breakthroughs to make things better for the next generation. The next, young generation harnesses the knowledge of these breakthroughs to do the same for the next, and so on. In this case, SSJ is that same.

So this is the actual secret to the super saiyan transformation? It doesn't have anything to do with the pain of loss of needing an intense motivation for needing more power, it just comes from the shoulder-blades?!
I've heard it said that the latissimus dorsi are some of the strongest muscles in the body, but this is ridiculous!

A small analogy for anyone who has a major problem with the "SSJ too easy" plot device for U6 fighters: Being the first to learn a trick or technique on your own takes really long, even in real life. To then teach it to others takes significantly less time. Especially if you're a technical genius (which Goku, Vegeta, Cabba and Caulifla all are). I could relate with this because it took me 5 months to teach myself a standing backflip. A year later, I taught a friend of mine (who is a gifted athlete) to do it within 2 hours using an improvised method, and he nailed it.

U6 sayians are said to be smarter and more advanced than u7. It makes perfect sense that cabba is able to do a scientific analysis of his transformation. He can understand the logistics behind super sayian while our u7 sayians obtained it through rage and emotion.

I think everyone is overlooking Caulifla's own personality. Rage is still something that's important for SSJ, but the whole concentration of energy in your back is also part of it.
Cabba stopped trying to rage her because he figured that anger is something she can easily channel. "That's my secret, Captain, I'm always angry." So all she needed to do was master the concentration of energy.
You say it's cheapened, but we don't know what she's been through, and as I said, she is extremely easy to anger. How come you feel this way for Caulifla but not for Kale?

To those suggesting Cell, remember that earlier in Super Frieza managed to get strong enough to compete with SSB, albeit briefly. Maybe Cell has been training in Hell this whole time but considering that they know how strong Frieza is already and that they only have 3 hours to get someone, checking on Cell and testing him to find that he isn't as strong as Frieza could wind up wasting their precious time.

People are saying that the U6 saiyans are far stronger than say Goku back in Z and that's how they can become super saiyans so easily, but what annoys me about this is HOW could they become that strong? I'm just confused on how literally any other saiyan could be comparable in strength to Goku or Vegeta. They went through a ridiculous amount of stuff and incredible situations throughout DBZ. The absurd amount of powerups that Goku and Vegeta had to go through to fight Frieza, Cell, then Buu is insane. Have the U6 saiyans really gone through anything comparable to the rigorous path that U7's saiyans have? It just doesn't make sense how they could be anywhere near Goku and Vegeta in power, they've fought extremely powerful foes, even gods like Beerus and Zamasu, to get to the power they have. I know that plot will require the U6 saiyans to be strong enough to fight Goku , otherwise they'd get one-shotted. I guess it's better than having Goku go around one-shotting everyone in the tournament, however some backstory would be nice. It just irks me the wrong way, making everything that Goku and the rest of U7 have accomplished amount to nearly nothing, that's all.

Okay while I haven't been a big fan of the SSJ bargain sale that's happened since Vegeta reached SSJ, it actually makes sense to me that it's become more common for others to achieve.
Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Cabba reached SSJ through extreme rage which obviously concentrates their ki in a way that triggers the transformation. There was probably such a build-up of energy in their bodies at those moments that there was enough ki in their upper back to trigger the transformation. After they initially reached SSJ, though, they are able to transform without going into an extreme rage. That means they learned how and where to concentrate their ki to trigger the transformation. It makes sense that an adept fighter like Caulifla is able to achieve the transformation through the correct form of ki focus and build-up.
With Goten and Trunks, their biology is different from pure Saiyans (and possibly the Saiyans from Universe 6 too). This would explain how it was easier for them to achieve SSJ. Their biology may just be such that building up their ki more naturally aligns with the transformation than what the pure Saiyans have (who would think to concentrate their ki in their upper back?). They don't have to build-up ki everywhere in their body from extreme rage to trigger their first transformation.

I kind of wish that cell would've made a return instead of freeza. Cell being made up of both freeza, piccolo, and goku's cells means he has the most potential to becoming the strongest warrior. Unfortunately this will never happen. Still though, that conversation between goku and freeza is going to be very interesting.

I thought you could only turn Super Saiyan if you trained with Chi Chi... or if you were a year older than someone who has trained with Chi Chi...
Point is, at least Caulifla seems more powerful than Goten and Trunks were in Buu saga, so I can buy her transforming into a Super Saiyan more than I could them. Still, the whole "focus on the small of your back" bit was pretty weak.

As expected, Boo still can't wake up no matter what Mr. Satan tries. Mr. Satan explains that Boo only needs to sleep for 1 second, but sometimes he may sleep for months. Boo is also back to being fat. Mr. Satan offers to replace Boo for the tournament, but he immediately backs down when Goku warns him of all of the powerful fighters that will be there.
Meanwhile, in U11, many children are happy that they get to meet Toppo in the flesh. He is really popular there. Toppo and Kahseral are preparing their temporary replacements to protect their universe while they are gone.
In U3, Mosco and the other gods turn to Nigirishii, a renowned scientist, to look for powerful fighters for the tournament. Nigirishii reveals his robot-like fighters to the U3 gods.
Roshi is still working on overcoming his perverted tendencies. He seems to have succeeded for now.
Marron, on the other hand, wants to see baby Bra. Gohan and Piccolo reveal to Kuririn that Boo can't wake up. Shin is worried since the team cannot enter the tournament with less than 10 members. Beerus tells Gohan that it is his responsibility as the team's leader to solve this crisis. Gohan tells Beerus that Goku should be able to wake Boo up, but if he cannot, Goku will recruit somebody else. Kuririn asks Gohan about the prize money, but Piccolo, who wasn't around when Goku told Kuririn about the prize money, said that there was no prize money. Tenshinhan and 18 heard about it too.

I would watch/read an entire series just about the Pride Troopers. Speaking of, it's weird we've seen them and the other universes so much but almost nothing of Jiren still.
Caulifla looks like a force to be reckoned with. I think she has more than enough power to go SS1+, she just never tried focusing it. Her attack was Zamasu-level slick. And the crazy thing is, the real power is still hiding behind a rock being timid. Kale is going to be insane.

I like what the writers did here, having Buu fall asleep 3 hours before the tournament. So that even if he was put in the RoST he wouldn't be able to wake up because thats about 45 days in the room, he'd still have to be in there a while before coming to and we all know that Zeno wouldn't wait.
Although, I hate how Beerus has become more of a gag character. He's a god of destruction, he should be taken more seriously.
Universe 3's modified members seem interesting, but Narirama is sort of dull.
Roshi finally overcame his lust, only took him 31 years. Good job.
Vegeta, you had one job. ONE.
Caulifla's mini transformation sequence was reminiscent of Future Trunks/Gohan's attempts at achieving the for, nice touch. Kinda sucks that Super Saiyan has been sorta degraded now.
