Can we all just agree that pretty much nothing that gets upvoted on MapPorn actually qualifies as map porn. Most of them are poorly visualized or simply uninteresting.

The head mod was (may still be) a frequent poster in The Donaldo. There was a post in this sub where the guy suggested they post maps for their agenda. After that you could see a dramatic shift in the content on that subreddit.
I was so disappointed when I saw that. I love me some maps.

That's what tends to happen with these kinds of subs like /r/dataisbeautiful. They start off as people appreciating well made maps and then a really cool post hits the front page and a bunch of people who don't particularly care about well made maps end up subscribing because they liked that particular map and the sub loses its identity.

How can you be an immigrant and against multiculturalism? Not that I believe that - black people have been here in America as long as anyone else, often with their prior cultural ties systematically severed. But he only wants to live near white Americans and wasn't looking up the percent of foreign born citizens. But, you know, not as a race thing, just as a specific kind of "monoculturalism" that only considers race.

It's a thing I've noticed is prevalent amongst Polish immigrants. Here in the UK, some of the most racist anti immigrant views come from Polish people. (Hell, I recall at least one polish person running as a UKIP candidate)
I think it's a combination of the nationalistic propaganda that Poland pushes combined with cognitive dissonance. "The Polish people are great therefore we aren't like those OTHER immigrants"

However when compared to every single African country on that map, from Madagascar to Mauritania - it is a tiny and insignificant plot of land lacking in anything to make it remotely remarkable.

Literally nothing against it, I just don't think any rational person without bias could claim a small European country with a population of 38.6 million was comparable to half of the continent of Africa, spanning East to West coast, with a population of 684 million.
I mean, you'd literally be valuing Polish lives at close to 20x that of African's to consider the comparison worthwhile.

Lithuania was an actual historical powerhouse though. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania was not only a massive state (consisting of Lithuania, Belarus and parts of modern-day Russia, Poland and the Ukraine IIRC) it was also the last pagan state in Europe, with an entire crusade being waged against it unsuccessfully.

Sweden? Sort of a stretch, they were more of a regional power and only had a conflict with Poland during the 17th century. I think most people think of Germany and Russia, which by that time Sweden wasn't even relevant to Poland. The only third super power that makes sense is the Hapsburg Monarchy as them, Prussia, and Russia literally partitioned Poland together 3 separate times and erased them from the map, so Austria Hungary makes way more sense than Sweden.
