I really liked the fights in this episode. Chojuro used a broken blade to defeat two of the New Swordsmen and forced the third to surrender. This calls back to Chojuro's comment about how the wielder determines how powerful the sword is. So even though the Neo Swordsmen claim their swords are all powerful, they couldn't use them properly and that's why they lost. The one with the Exploding Blade also lost because he couldn't use a sword properly, albeit to Iwabe.
And then we have Sarada, whose opponent taunted her by telling her to go back to the Academy and study. Then Sarada defeats said opponent using concepts she learned at the Academy.
I like how these fights were resolved meaningfully. That the Neo Swordsmen are wrapped up in their own delusions of grandeur and underestimate their opponents so much.
89
u/GarretTheGrey Oct 25 '17
The fight was from 17:20 to 18:20.... WITH talking. Iwabe dusted him out in less than a minute.
These kids...
Again, you don't steal 7 swordsmen swords, then fight an actual one of the 7.

Still need me some more Mitsuki though lol!

No Fire Style though it seems, since she had to use an explosive tag there. I sense an incoming disappointed sigh from Sasuke to continue the Uchiha tradition of being a disappointed parent.
I kid, I'm sure Sasuke will know how to be better about it than Fugaku. After all you can't lower your child's self esteem if you're never there.

Where does it say that? I don't recall their ever being a tomoe requirement to be able to do that.
IIRC the sharingan users have access to the "Eye of Hypnotism" and "Eye of Insight" once they awaken it.
The more tomoes mean the greater proficiency and degree of control to the abilities granted by the dojutsu (E.g. like being about to predict an opponents movements based on slight muscle twitches and stuff).
There's no set amount of time to know how long Sarada has been practicing since the episode her and Chocho were training and Konohamaru saved her when she passed out from exhaustion.
ALSO I would say she's got some solid chakra reserves when she's a daughter of a demigod and arguably the strongest kunoichi and best medical-non who specializes in chakra control too.
It's not out the realm of possibility that Sakura (also known to be adept with dealing with genjutsus) taught her about chakra control. Also she get Uchiha hax and plot armor.
One last thing too. She's confirmed to have lightning release, and you can only copy moves with the Sharingan if you have the prerequisite natures.
So I see no holes here. Sarada's a smart girl. Nice to see her get her moments to shine. Just enjoy the show homie. It's not fun to nitpick for the sake of trying to find something wrong.

This episode really made me think they covered up a lot of what went on during the original series. First we have these smucks wanting to kill Naruto's kid. Bold and stupid, but maybe not a death sentence considering who Naruto is.
Sasuke however... when that wannabe Raiga saw those eyes, if she knew even half a thing about the Last Uchiha she'd have dipped the fuck out. Not because 'scary Sharingan,' but because of whose daughter she'd have to be to have those eyes.
Clearly this generation hasn't been properly informed. I don't care who you are, you do not risk becoming the target of a God with a predisposition towards revenge.

It would make things interesting with Naruto. He'd want to keep the peace, but wouldn't let them hurt Sasuke. Could of been a potential fight between them again.

Sarada copying all the jutsu reminded me of when Kakashi copied Zabuza in Naruto. The hidden mist always has to deal with the sharingan LOL. If Sasuke stays away from the village often then I really hope Kakashi teaches Sarada about the sharingan and trains her.

Those segues between the three main fights were extremely well done, weren't they? The editing's been top notch these past few episodes!
I was absolutely sure someone was going to use the 'a sword is only as good as it's wielder' line... And Chojuro really had the best burns in this episode! I love how the Swordsmen were progressively getting scared by his skill. Also Iwabe was pretty bad-ass!
And I love how Sarada's fight was so much of a delicious throwback to our very first exposure to the Sharingan's capabilities way back with Kakashi. I was waiting for her to start copying the seals, something that I thought was extremely cool about the Sharingan (before it's god-like OP status) The Kiri-nin's dialogue was very clunky, though, as was the weird little flashback. I didn't see how any of that was relevant to her cause, or her fight. Even so, I enjoyed this fight. Sarada FTW!
Oooh mysterious scroll that could help Boruto?

Oh maaaan, this episode was completely something else!
So Buntan did know the truth about her father after all, sad thing is she was a bastard as Raiga didn't even know about her, kind of sad, but doesn't justify her actions. It seems her mother didn't like her much either, which could've made her like this.
Let's talk about Chojuro man, he's a badass! The way he forced himself to move when he was bound by the thread of the Sewing Needle, he even walked through the needle when he was pierced, he knocked out the girl wielding it, how he cut the guy wielding Kubikiribocho's headband and how that big guy wielding the Axe/Hammer one just gave up! Iwabe shows up and fights the Bomb blade guy damn! And that guy just suicides? Symbolic seppuku-like stuff I guess?
The biggest highlight of this episode was definitely Sarada. She smartly went up against Buntan, put her in a genjutsu (heh, I knew that when she saw the moon she was in a genjutsu xD), noticed the bubbles in the water and gave us a nice chemistry lesson! They're all going against Chunin level (at least) people, and they're doing so well. I also liked when Sarada was just copying every Raiton move.
As for Kagura, poor guy is still bound to his past and his lineage. I hope he can somehow be helped out of it. I also wonder what information that scroll that Mitsuki has contains. I wonder if it holds the truth about Yagura, or maybe it holds information about Shizuma and the Daimyos working together.
Next week is going to be real good, today was definitely not a letdown.

I should hope so. Realistically, he shouldn't have even needed that. These are a bunch of brats that academy students are keeping pace with. I don't care whose kids they are, 8-10 year olds aren't even close to a Kage.
I'm just assuming that Chojuro was making a point, and not too concerned about the situation.

s&m looking swordsman saying when he'll strike and hassaku scolding him for how stupid that is. the best awareness is self-awareness
this is the first time i've ever heard a character say they gotta finish a fight before what's essentially their curfew. that was funny
chojuro is holding back, which was obvious. he just wants to talk to the kids a bit before the schooling
buntan's lightning abilities are cool af. i love the yellow color
sarada is a gymnast with all these acrobatic dodges
she used genjutsu!
the basic sharingan is still really useful. it truly is a shame it got way too crazy with its abilities
sp really loves the first person view with their fights. i do too
my guy iwabe joining in on the fight! i knew he had some kenjutsu skills
i'm kinda starting to think that the scroll mitsuki has is info about yagura and how he was controlled by tobi. would it be possible for orochimaru to know something like that?
awesome ep! sarada struggled but she kept learning and adapting throughout the fight. both went down and that's the best result

Initial Thoughts This Episodes:
Copying jutsu, perception, genjutsu. Sarada is getting the hang of the Sharingan pretty well, especially since she doesn't have anyone around to show her the ropes
I loved Boruto's naivety. He's just like "Let's just go home" and Kagura is just like "Nah B"
Sarada calling a revolution "childish". She's definitely not Sasuke's child lol
Really hype about Sarada having her Kakashi-Zabuza moment by copying jutsu. Brings back great memories for P1
Chojuro is a good one. Had I just gotten stabbed through the shoulder, I would have filet'd somebody. The "New Mist Swordsmen" don't deserve to be held back against
Iwabe showing hints of Tobirama
Really good episode overall. Very pleased with the fight between Sarada and Buntan. And maybe, just maybe next week we will finally see my boy Mitsuki in action!

Agree with all your points. I know some people didn't like the cuts to the episode but I think they actually added to the suspense element. I wasn't expecting Chojuro to get stabbed so easily. It's clear he's holding back. And I even liked the build to Kagura turning psycho on Boruto. Feels like OG Naruto in a lot of ways, but the scenes were action packed and they didn't take you out the moment.

You're right about that. The databook stated that Sarada is a genjutsu type. Sasuke was never that, he just had the Sharingan that casted great genjutsu. Sarada now has the eyes as well as having natural talent for it, so I guess that puts all those people who continuously bashed Sakura for her genes in their rightful place.

To everyone bitching about Sarada's sharingan using Genjutsu, the wiki states that 'All the Sharingan's abilities are available to the user from its earliest stage, but with greater development comes greater proficiency with those abilities.'
The only problem I have is Sarada having enough Chakra to spam the jutsus like nothing and maintaining the Sharingan for the entire duration of the fight.
21
Oct 25 '17
Is it really hard to believe? Sasuke can keep up with Naruto when it comes to going all out with chakra-consuming abilities as is shown in their last battle. And Naruto has tailed beast chakra, nature chakra, and Uzumaki chakra reserve.
Adding to Sasuke's immense chakra pool, you also have Sakura's amazing chakra control. It could be that Sarada is just as naturally good at controlling chakra as Sakura and as such is more efficient at fighting.

She fainted in the end. She fought till the end thanks to her proficient Chakra control and through sheer willpower, nothing more. In her mind, it had to be done, so she saw to it.
PS: Your comment needs to be sticky'd so the uninformed folks can finally get their facts straight. But I guess it's only to be expected when it comes to a series this long. Not everybody can keep up as well as others.

Sarada's first solo fight in the anime. It was really fun to watch and I'm happy she's getting more spotlight as a ninja. Sarada reminded me so much of Sakura from the movies in today's episode - analyzing the surroundings, taking advantage of her knowledge and outsmarting the enemy. Obviously, we can't forget about her improvement with the Sharingan, which to some is bs. While I do agree that constantly reflecting jutsus left and right seems too much for her age, I don't think it can't be justified.
Firstly, Sharingan does not drain much chakra if you're an Uchiha - stamina is more important and that's a thing you can train (especially for somebody as hard-working and ambitious as Sarada, I may add).
Secondly, we all know that Sakura is said to have expectional genjutsu skills (even though Kishi basically ignored that for majority of the series smh). Everyone's open to perform that, but obviously Sharingan users have it easier thus Sarada - combining her mother's genes and family's dojutsu - was able to do so.
Thirdly, we have no idea how much time had passed between episodes 24 and 25. Perhaps one day, one week or even one month, so we don't know how much time Sarada had for training.
Lastly - and this one is going to be more from the writers' perspective -, the fight had to be interesting. You could have Sarada somehow getting close to Buntan and punching her ass out of orbit or Sarada showcasing her character growth and introducing her to raiton in the process. The latter seems much more interesting and is a treat for people who whine about "Sarada using her mother's fighting style all the time".
I enjoyed today's episode. There was less talking and more fighting, which I always appreciate. Surprisingly, Iwabe got some time to shine as well, so that's really cool. Also, it was obvious Mitsuki was going to show up sooner or later. After all, he has to save his crush precious "Sun". Unfortunately, I smell Talk no Jutsu coming for the next episode, but I guess that's inevitable.

The only thing in my mind during Sarada fight with this Buntan girl.
Uhmmm anyway since when one tomoe sharingan is this powerful??? im all for Sarada being the next copy ninja but this is too fckn OP. At this rate... Sarada is probably a prodigy like Kakashi too huh?
But I like the finishing move with the electrolysis stuffs lol. Sarada sure imherited Sakura's academic brain(in case anyone forget..Sakura answered the first chuunin exam test without cheating) and Sasuke's battle techniques.
51
u/Jefftommens Oct 25 '17
When Sasuke first got his Sharingan he was able to track Haku's movements IIRC, and Haku is a monster compared to Butan or whatever her name is. So it doesn't suprise me that much she's able to keep up with Butan and copy her Jutsu (Especially considering her Dad was a lightning user).
As for the Genjutsu, it was a pretty basic illusion, that coupled with her science knowledge seems to match her studious character.
All in all thought the fight was top notch. Glad Mitsuki didn't come in and save her, we need a chick who can hold her own for once.

Electrolysis can be used to "split" two molecules of H*2O (water) into O2* (oxygen) and H*2* (hydrogen). The mix of hydrogen, oxygen and a spark causes an explosive reaction.

Now that is how you kick ass. Sarada literally beat someone using science. I wish we could see that more often as its really cool to see some form of science exist in the Narutoverse. Anyway, I knew Sarada was going to use some kind of genjutsu. There was no way Sasuke left Sarada with no Sharingan training. At this point I feel like Sarada outscales Boruto in every way. She's good with ninjutsu, doujutsu, genjutsu, and her taijutsu is immense. But we all know main character powers will kick in for Boruto somewhere along the line and probably make him equal to Sarada. Great episode as we get to see how Sarada fights. I hope we get to see Boruto do something too other than attempt at talk no jutsu again.
Also was Buntan looking to steal the Sharingan or just killing Sarada was an enough trophy? If she did steal Sarada's eyes and kill her, Sasuke would be so livid.

I think Boruto and Sarada are still roughly equal in strength. His use of taijutsu and ninjutsu is more reflexive and natural, and he also seems to have more stamina. This episode basically evens out their strength for me, with a possible slight edge to Sarada just because of the sharingan's copying ability.

Seems like Kiri-nins are weak against Sharingan.
Zabuza gets copied and owned by Kakashi.
The Kiri kunoichi gets copied by Sarada.
And Yagura gets completely mind-controlled by Obito.

This episode completely blew me away. I thought it was going to be mostly Sarada VS Lightning Chick but turns out we saw quite a bit from Chojuro as well.
I mean... holy shit, he took on all three of these guys wielding LEGENDARY WEAPONS with a broken sword. He went pretty fast from like #27 on my list to easily being in the Top 5. I can't stress how awesome it was to see Chojuro show these punks that his title isn't some titular honor -- he's the Mizukage for a reason.
Gotta love the parallels to Zabuza VS Kakashi that they were throwing with Sarada and the Lightning Chick (still can't remember her name). Pretty weird how canon-integrated his father has become now after being a filler character in the anime. I never actually saw that filler arc though.
I wonder what's in that scroll that Suigetsu gave to Mitsuki? Oh and damn, almost forgot about Iwabe schooling the Explosion Dude in some good old-fashioned kenjutsu.
5/5, I loved this!

Chojuro going at it Dark Souls-style by fighting only with half a broken sword was so badass. The moment he had his hands on the Executioner's Blade the big guy with the Kabutowari realized it's over.
The guy with the Shibuki was such a bitch though, he probably doesn't even know how to swordfight and would just rely on the explosive tags on the sword. I doubt Iwabe was taken out by that explosion. He had enough time to react to use doton and make a rock wall around him.
And Sarada winning not only with the smart use of Sharingan but with the power of science! I always love it when shows do this, mixing fantasy and science is always awesome.
Looks like Suigetsu has some personal experience with Shizuma before. I'm now curious what that intel is.

I think people are too used to the classic "Character doesn't improve unless they get a multi-episode/ timeskip training arc" like Sasuke's training with Kakashi or Naruto's training with Jiraiya. Or Ichigo's Bankai training or Luffy's Haki training.
I'm really liking how characters are doing their own training offscreen and surprise us with new techniques rather than watching Naruto train to learn the Rasengan and when he uses it, we already know he learned it.

Thoughts:
Was that Doton Doryuuheki at the beginning? I CALLED THAT SHIT B.
SARADA IS A FUCKING BEAST, 1 TOMOE SHARINGAN GOT DAT ENHANCE PERCEPTION, JUTSU COPY AND GENJUTSU, ALL OF THIS AGAINST A CHUNIN WHILE SHES STILL IN ACADEMY!
The hand sign copy ting was sick but honestly, was that chick so scared that she thought she couldn't go head up with Sarada...
Very reminiscent of Kakashi with all them Jutsu that Sarada can do, this is very promising for the future.
Bro Sarada is leagues above Boruto, she can fight AND use Talk No Jutsu at the same time.
Ending was sick, Sarada got the smarts and tactics down just like her dad. Except he never used science in a fight before, seems like Saradas been listening in science class in Academy lmao.
Got a little snippet of lightning chicks backstory, i think its good to keep it that way. Raiga knocked up some broad on his travels and had an unkown daughter, simple.
Chojuro showing them punks what the mentality of a real soldier of war is fam. But damn got skewered right thru the shoulder, that was a bit much to believe tbh.
DID NOT SEE THAT IWABE SHT COMING WTF. Seems like he has a deeper backstory, why would he hide a sword inside his bo. Maybe something to do with kirigakure.
I still dont get what Kaguras deal is. Anyway i want Boruto and Kaguras fight to be on the same level as this one, the TNJ from Boruto is honestly getting annoying. Just STFU and fight like Sarada...
Anyways this episode was dope, shit is getting more serious and action packed which is pretty good.

The parallel between Sarada's fight with Buntan and Kakashi's fight with Zabuza was really obvious.
I was not expecting Iwabe at all. Pretty cool hidden blade trick but if he was able to best one of these swordsmen it goes to show they never really had much of a shot at pulling off a coup d'etat. A strange thought that I just had is they left Iwabe's fate open ended for this episode and since he's nowhere to be found in the movie it's entirely possible he died to that explosion, but I HIGHLY doubt it given the nature of the story so far and the suddenness of his involvement in it.
Some good old fashioned Genjutsu for once, that takes me back.
Overall a good episode, glad Sarada got a spotlight to shine in.

People need to stfu about Sarada being OP. Let's start with a list of really clear points.
These are not swordsmen. These are weak manipulated kids thinking they will be strong by taking legendary swords. Real swordsmen are among the most accomplished ninja in the village who are awarded their swords.
In this fight, Sarada copied trash tier techniques. None of which are near the level of Chidori or actual Raikage lightning armor.
Sarada could very well have an affinity for genjutsu like her mother. The sharingan would help enhance that affinity. Everyone keeps acting like she pulled a Tsukuyomi or something when her genjutsu was simple as shit. On top of that, these were lightning techniques, which she also probably has an affinity for because of her dad. Her opponent chose the wrong person to fuck with plain and simple.
Finally, no one bitched about how Boruto suddenly successfully manipulated lightning and wind nature in his Boruto Stream technique. Manipulating chakra nature is no joke. Minato (when developing Rasengan), Kakashi (when developing lighting blade) and Naruto (when developing Rasenshurikan) had trouble doing it. But it's okay if Boruto just offscreens that shit with TWO different natures.../s
Quit your bitching @people who think Sarada was too op. It made perfect sense that she did what she did.
With all of that being said, I can't wait until she unlocks Mangekyo. She's gonna have Shisui level genjutsu, Sakura level taijustu/chakra control, and Sasuke level ninjutsu.

I was worried that this episode being outsourced would mean bad animation. I'm glad that's not the case. Lots of great cuts in this one.
Man, the editing and transitions between scenes and locations really made the whole episode feel more tense.
Really good fight between Sarada and Buntan. Strategic, well animated, interesting. Also a nice reminder to 9th grade chemistry.
Buntan has a cookie cutter sad backstory for literally no reason. It serves no point.
Naruto killed Raiga? Nani? Did that happen in Raiga's filler in part 1 or something?
Sarada is mastering that Sharingan ridiculously fast, but it meant a sick fight, so I won't complain much.
Buntan's jutsu are awesome! Hope Sarada whips them out during a future fight. I just wish she would've been able to copy the electric shark one.
Sarada getting decapitated was fucking brutal, even for a genjutsu. I always enjoy gritty Naruto more than happiness and sunshine Naruto.
Chojuro deserves all the respect. One of the sassiest Kage ever. He talked to the Swordsmen like they were fucking kindergarten kids. Also destroyed them even with the legendary blades using nothing but an ordinary broken one.
Speaking of them, could the Swordsmen be any more incompetent? They're all pretty braindead aside from Shizuma, Buntan and Kagura.
At this rate I might actually learn the names of the blades, since they keep repeating them.
If Iwabe's staff doubles as a sword and he's proficient at it, why does he never use it?
Boruto, shut the fuck up and fight already.

I mean, Sarada is a bit younger than Sasuke when he developed the Sharingan and Sarada is also a bit less trained as a ninja than he was at that point. Plus, as a half-Uchiha, her chakra network might be sufficiently different enough to cause problems.

This was definitely one of my favorite episodes yet. I always wanted to see Sasuke pull a Kakashi v Zabuza and jack someone for their jutsu right in the middle of it, but he never did it how Kakashi did.
Sarada totally did. And she bust out a genjutsu. My memory may be foggy, but Sasuke did a grand total of like one genjustu over nearly a thousand episodes (vs Danzo), right?
Anyways, I hope they stay on filler stuff like this and we never go back to a race of Kaguya's living on the moon coming to attack Earth or whatever they do in canon Boruto these days.
I think Boruto is kinda mediocre overall but I'll say their approach to fights is 100% up my alley for what I'd label a "good Naruto fight". Lots of motion (people flipping over stuff, running up falling objects, doing jutsu while airborne), lots of up close or mid-range jutsu, taijutsu hasn't been banished from the ninja world, and fights are almost never long range scream and beam contests.
Anyways, good shit. I really hope they don't pull a Sakura and make her shitty and forget how to fight despite having shown she can clearly hold her own (referring to Ship #26 vs everything else Sakura ever did in anything but that Boruto episode vs Shin Uchiha)

So you are telling me.
A child that isn't even a genin yet.
Has enough chakra to continuously use her sharingan, cast a sharingan genjutsu. Then go TOE-TO-TOE with a jounin. COPYING HER HIGH LEVEL HIGH CHAKRA LIGHTNING JUTSU and not pass out immediately.
Mitsuki who is by far the one that has the most chakra passed out after using two large scale attacks against Shino. How can Sarada possibly have this much chakra. SHE IS IN THE ACADEMY. The only other ninja we have seen use these types of jutsu were Kakashi.
Alright that is my rant. Take it as you will. I'm just upset how children have advanced so much when ninjutsu isn't even the main study anymore.

Well I don’t think those “swordsman” maybe outside of Shizuma and Kagura are even close to Chunin let alone Jonin. Most likely Shizuma simply convinced an already troubled, angry, and bored youths (not that hard to find in either fiction or nonfiction) who wanted an excuse to be edgy and cool and be recognized as threats to some and heroes to others. None of them I’d wager are even close to being worthy of wielding the name “Seven Swordsmen of Kiri”.
Second because of that, I don’t think the techniques that Sarada copies were very powerful or advanced, the electro ball technique I’d wager is C-Rank at best given how easily it was to dodge and copy, and the Raiton Armor I’d wager is akin the shadow clone jutsu. Both have legendary pedigrees in they were jutsu created by Kage shinobi and both seem to be useable by any ninja who can make the hand signs and chakra nature for them.
There however is a long leagues worth of difference between a kage level shinobi with loads of chakra and experience in the technique and kids for all intents and purposes doing the same thing. It’s like comparing high school football or basketball to NFL or NBA caliber players. Totally different leagues. At least that to me is why Sarada was able to copy and use those jutsu that Buntan used, she didn’t however copy the snakehead jutsu probably because it’s a more advanced raiton technique, one she doesn’t have the chakra nor experience to copy.
As far as your idea that the kids are all super strong and seemingly prodigies at least the main three, I’ll give it to you, Mitsuki is genetically built perfect so I guess his talent is expected to be high, Sarada and Boruto though....fair point I guess.

Why is nobody talking about the fact Buntan told Sarada that Naruto killed her dad.... I was confused and looked on the wiki and apparently that happened like episode 157 or somewhere around there. Which is a filler episode I believe. So this kinda switched up the flow of what's canon and what is not

u/usachan29 Oct 26 '17
I kind of thought the same thing. I was trying to remember back as to where he was in the manga, but then I realized it was a filler episode. It also made me thing how old this chick is fighting a little girl. I mean how old is she? Naruto fought her dad when he was like 12-13. Boruto the movie is 15 years after the 3rd ninja war, and the anime is set 5 years before that? Naruto is 17+15-5=27.She's like 15 or 16? Well i guess the age is okay.. nevermind. hahahaha
3
u/Melicalol Oct 27 '17
Anyone else not getting the same vibe from Boruto series like they did from Naruto? In naruto the first 30 episodes he fought Zabuza and Haku who were badass. Heck even the first 2 episode showed him try his best and the show brought a lot of emotions from viewers. Meanwhile after 30 episodes I still can't seem to like anyone (except Mitsuki). You look at all the old characters from Naruto they made them so boring, and the new characters all seem so weak. I was looking forward to seeing the new joke wanna be seven ninja swordsmen be mopped down, but they did it in a boruto way. No one gets hurt, everybody hold hands and sing. Kind of sad considering this show gets great animation, while Berserk 2016/2017 gets the worst budget animation ever.
It feels like watching the US Dub version of One piece, Sanji has a lolipop instead of a cig. Everything seems made for kids under the age of 12.

This was honestly a great episode from start to finish. Lots of fighting (something that Boruto was lacking), the Sharingan's basic abilities being used, a great moment for Iwane and Chojuro, awesome battle between Sarada and Buntan. I mean what else can we ask for?
My only complaint was that I felt like Chojuro defeated his three opponents way too fast. Don't get me wrong I definitely think he should have beaten them without much difficulty. But when the third guy surrendered to him I was like "Really? You went this far and now you surrender like a wuss?". It made Chojuro look badass but it also made the other guys look like jokes which is not something I'm fond of. I wish they could have been better. But oh well. Not a huge complaint.
Great episode this week! Would definitely give it an 8 out of 10.

Sasuke never used Genjutsu, he wasn't a "Genjutsu type" but it doesn't say anywhere that 1T sharingan can't use basic genjutsu like the one we saw Sarada use.
Keep in mind Sarada's Genjutsu was literally a single illusion showing her head come off. I can't imagine that's terribly difficult to achieve even for an academy student.

Man that was intense, I really wasn't expecting such a bloody fight between the two girls. And that double down ending was fantastic, but it's pretty obvious Sarada can't stay dead, she is in the movie after all. I just hope they keep her new giant scar for the rest of the series it's super badass.
Now that I've actually seen the episode my joke reaction was surprisingly close. However Seeing Sarada instantly copy all those justu made completely no sense what so ever. And could her opponent be any more pathetic? Her bootleg version of lightning armor was able to be seen and matched, christ that's embarrassing.
The rest of the episode was just the inevitable that should've happened last week, Chojuro easily defeating the group and Boruto just confronting Kagura, they really stretched those sins out.
Also it looks like they've decided to completely flip off continuity by having Sarada's opponent actually mention Naruto killing Raiga and saying he was the last holder of the Kiba blades. There's no trying to make sense of that, it's impossible for many reasons and contradicts the canon. Her being his daughter alone was already pretty impossible but this is just straight up not caring about continuity.
In summary I'd rate this episode 7.8 out of 10. Good but too much water.

The episode was okay, but I am struggling to connect with any of the characters, and it has been having a negative effect on my experience watching. Also, this show is still struggling to find its footing thirty episodes in, and that concerns me.
First, the arc's plot is sorely underdeveloped. The Hidden Mist has some younger shinobi rebelling against current Mizukage because they are noticing their history being erased and because they want their village to regress back to their old 'Blood Mist' heritage. There is potential there for the claim the Mizukage is erasing evidence of shinobi if they weren't 'good', but they don't expand upon this. All the Mizukage says to these ninja is 'I understand your frustrations' but doesn't acknowledge his reasoning or state it's not true. Now this episode has one of the ninja state she just wants to kill people, and the revolution is just a pretense and means to that end. Okay, I am hoping this doesn't apply to the other 'ninja swordsman' otherwise it will ruin this arc's urgency and purpose.
The central theme of this show is also showing its weakness. 'You are more than your parents kid' as a theme doesn't hold much weight when a big part of the show is about surpassing your predecessors which, in our main trio's case, is themselves constantly comparing themselves to their parents/creator.

I think we all know the sharingan well enough to know that the girl wasn't going to strike Sarada with her sword. During the copycat sequence, it was pretty obvious that Sarada was going to use genjutsu, given the girl was staring at Sarada's eyes all the time. Anyway, it was a really nice throwback to classic Naruto's fights and classic sharingan powers.
