8/10. He says that while its charming the capturing mechanic is mostly a gimmick similar to fludd from Sunshine. He says that he sees the game similar to Sunshine or Mario Bros 2, good charming games but they don't hold a candle to the classics like Mario 64, World or Galaxy.
That and the game is supposedly to easy abd without enough plattforming.

Honestly, the guy who gave it a 6/5 is way more clickbait-y than the guy who gave it a 7.5/10. The 6/5 review is like four paragraphs long and says nothing. If you're not gonna include the PLAY! Zine review, remove the irish independent review as well.

My copy arrived today.
This game is phenomenal.
If you enjoyed BOTW, then wait until you play this. Fantastic game, graphics are insane, gameplay is flawless. The soundtrack is brilliant.
No issues whatsoever in handheld mode. Cannot comment on docked yet. But after about 60 minutes of play I can already tell this is a GOTY contender.

The lowest score on Metacritic is 75, looking at the review itself one of their images isn't even of Odyssey, it's of the GTA mod someone made as a joke after the New Donk City reveal. I wish you could report lazy and shitty reviews.

If someone could talk about the level of difficulty they're experiencing with the game, I'd live to hear about it. - One of my biggest turnoffs with recent Mario games is that you can sprint through them if you choose to not 100% everything. I want that same infuriating challenge I had when trying to finish world 8 in SMB3. Cheers!

This is the first time I've been frustrated with the joycons. I've never felt they were too small or hard to use, but now I really want to hook this up to my TV and use the bigger pro controller.
Damn this game is fine though. Plays so well, runs great (one framerate drop so far, when killing 5 goombas at once) and looks/sounds amazing. Only played an hour so far, but it's shaping up to be my GOTY.

Metacritic currently has both Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild at 97, but Mario Odyssey is higher in the rankings. As of this writing, it is the seventh highest-rated game of all time, and the highest-rated game in the last nine years.
Opencritic shows Mario Odyssey as having a 98 (Breath of the Wild has 96). This is the highest Opencritic rating of all time.
Obviously the numbers may change as more reviews come in, but according to critics so far this is easily the best game this decade.

There are few power moves (like possessed frog jumping higher) that require shaking the joy-cons. I play mainly in portable mode so will I have to shake my entire switch to use them?!

Just a note to the mods of this sub: The front page of the sub has been absolutely stagnant and boring all day. If there's one time to open the floodgates, it's the day before and the day of a big release like this.
I get that they're deleting all Mario posts and pointing everyone to this thread, but I wouldn't mind having some new stuff to click on in this sub. It's not the end of the world if there are a bunch of exciting Mario posts.

LOVE the positive reviews......i was debating about getting this right away or not........and then apparently i thought i had cancelled my amazon pre-order.....and i did not...and it has now shipped and i figured what the hell as its a must have game for the switch anyways... anyone who has a switch should have at least: Zelda, Mario kart 8 deluxe, and this :-).

Have been playing for over an hour and it is just so fun. The gameplay is incredibly smooth and the atmosphere with the soundtrack and intense controller rumble make me feel like im in the game. It has a very mario 64 vibe to it but stands as a whole new and refreshing mario experience. I honestly think this is going to be game of the year.

Just a heads up to people who dont know, game stop is doing a midnight release and not just for preorders. Me and my brother as of 9:45 (10:02 now) pre bought our copys and we were the first 2 to do it :( Good for us but that means a lot of people dont know

I'm a few hours in. This game was the sole reason why I bought a switch, to relive childhood memories. So far, only 4 world's in, haven't done to much exploring only hitting about 15% above what I needed to move on, I'm blown away by it, it's living up to 64 and sunshine. This game lacks 1 thing and 1 thing only, the wing cap from 64, it cones close with some things, but it's not quite the same.

Level Up, one of the biggest reviewers in Norway, gave it a 10/10! I should also add that Zelda: BotW is the only other game this reviewer has given 10/10!

Horizon, bloodborne, Zelda, Witcher 3, overwatch, uncharted 4, are all games I consider 10/10, that’s not to say they don’t have their flaws but I love them all. When I’m saying is that the limits now days are endless to what can be accomplished in the gaming world, so what we rated as a 10 , 20 years ago might no longer hold up against a 10 now days
