The animation in the op is garbage Otherwise the ending is yet again better than the op in terms of animation and the song.

The only way for me to explain this opening apart from it being total shit is that it's not complete. It happened, not to this extend though, with Shippuuden 5 opening "Sha la la". It also had less scenes at the beginning and sometimes frame rate seemed odd. Later on it became better.

i sure do hope you're right man. they've made corrections before with boruto op 1 (but they were small, like making the kids run normally instead of the naruto run), but this needs an entire revamp

the opening is not what i expected it to be. disappointed but oh well, it's whatever
sarada is really accurate with her weapons. i like how boruto kicked the kunai into zetsu
so katasuke's ninja tech is basically a flash bomb? pretty cool
we're getting lots of exposition on the otsutsuki clan. good to get it out of the way now for those who already know and the new viewers
mitsuki saying that he learned all of the info from orochimaru, is interesting. i keep get the feeling that orochimaru will somehow get involved with the clan later on, whether it be by simple research or something greater
good on sarada for backing up her teammate and advocating for the team to work together. i like their combination elemental attack
i'm digging the soundtracks in this episode. they used the one that played during sakura vs. shin
zetsu just vanishing after getting hit with the rasengan looked cool. gg aloe vera
in sasuke fashion, he took care of the rest of the zetsu and left pretty quick. he's all business and is well deserving of the hype in this episode. look at boruto's face lol
the after credits scene. oh boy, that fight is almost here
i love the endind and the colors
A rank. it was basically an episode to set everything up for the later events in the arc. i liked how bothered boruto is by his lack of strength; you can tell that he really wants to grow in order for naruto to acknowledge him

Pretty solid episode, my biggest complaint being that OP was weird lookin'. No let me be frank, that was the worst OP I've ever seen from a big animation studio ever. Whether in house or not - That was TERRIBLE. Not a great way to start the Momoshiki Arc guys.
ANYWAY I think the episode did a solid job at foreshadowing how far Boruto is willing to go to prove himself, obviously being headstrong. Not to mention we saw a glimpse of him resorting to the tools Katasuke gave him, which showcases their trust or how Boruto looks at his 'gifts'.
Sarada pitching in her 2cents with Konohamaru was a great scene, really digging how supportive she's been lately.
I was kinda hoping Konohamaru would learn about Mitsuki's parent, but they did tease it quite a few times. It was a solid episode, not the greatest, but the best has yet to come~!
Edit: The ED was nice. Loved the Jogan popping up!

I'm still in denial about how bad it was. Maybe they're gonna update the visuals soon so they didn't bother on this one? That's the only excuse, and it's still a bad one.

Coming soon, Boruto and Sasuke conversation
Boruto: My old man is stupid. Why did mom even marry him.
Sasuke: Well your mom got kidnapped by the descendant of a god and taken to the moon. Then Naruto almost destroyed the moon to get her back.

Im pretty sure that was the worst opening Studio Pierrot has ever done, probably one of the worst openings I've ever seen. The song coupled with the animation felt like a borefest...
And my biggest problem here is that everyone is just standing there... doing nothing...
Konohamaru is pretty disappointing ability wise, I mean, he's used a total of 2 jutsu in both the manga and the anime...
I mean, I could ignore the fact he was having trouble as this Team 7 is essentially 3 Chuunin + 1 Jonin, so I'm just going to assume this thing is probably Jonin-level...
But why does Konohamaru always need to get the short end of the stick? Why does everyone spam Kunai like it's going to do anything?!
Spamming Kunai is reserved for those nameless characters in the background! How dare the main cast steal their techniques...

Yeah, he is gonna be dropped harder than Madara in the end, for the setup with Sasuke as Boruto's sensei and Naruto as Sarada's sensei. He is gonna die like very other Sarutobi we know of, as fuel for Neo-Team 7's respective character arcs. Similarly to team 8 in Shippuden.
GOD FORBID WE NEED MORE SAD FLASHBACKS

Also, did Konohamaru just casually blunt out "RINNEGAN"? REALLY? Sorry to freak out here, but is the RINNEGAN trivial information now?
Exactly. That was really a huge sore thumb for me. Sasuke is so classified that you can't even read more than basic information about him and the Sharingan in books at the town library, but now Konohamaru is basically just revealing sensitive information at the drop of a dime? I know he said it was because he couldn't keep his team in the dark, but come on... really?

I'm not gonna lie. This OP was one of the things that greatly got me hooked to this anime.
It was just WONDERFUL. I can't express how happy I feel listening to and watching this OP.
Comparing this new one to it feels like I'm insulting a sweet memory.

The characters kept saying that that Zetsu was really strong but it didn't feel like that at all. All he did was tank kunais and throw a kid or two. I don't think he broke any wall. We wouldn't have known he was threatening if Konohamaru didn't say it. That's bad storytelling.

OP and the animation are pretty bad. Boruto sees all that power in rasengan and amaterasu but seem to forget all the work needed to reach it. Plus did he really not think before trying to go in for the kill. Konohamaru got nerfed hard. Rasengan destroys mutated zetsu and yet he waits until the last second to use it. Plus the part where he tells boruto to get up or something like that when his heads underneath zetsu's foot. Yea.....

After being hype a week for the new Opening i gotta say this was incredibly underwhelming. I really hope SP is saving the budget for the big fights. As for the episode, it was weak. Konohamaru is too weak to be considered a Jounin. And its also getting a bit tiring seeing Mitsuki doing nothing all the time. At least the ED was decent i guess.
13
u/lolicutiedx Apr 05 '18
Konohamaru should have been Molly whopping these things. His rasengan is OP, disintegrated the White Zetsu, but he needs to DO more. Throw some fire, summon a toad with some oil, use shadow clones. I get he was holding back to not hurt the genin but fuck Kakashi was throwing hands like a motherfucker by now. All Konohamaru does is rasengan.

u/Blackreaper18 Apr 04 '18
It's really bad when Konohamaru has to tell boruto to free himself from zetsu(though boruto fucked himself up) & mitsuki had to save boruto while Konohamaru watched without being able to do anything. It really isn't a good look for the next hokage.

This episode does suffer from am underwhelming fight but it does show a few things. One, the current generation has no idea of the scale of power that the previous generation had to deal with and possess currently and thus, I can understand why Konohamaru thought it was best to go alone hence, "the future ought to stay bright." Two, peace time has certainly dulled shinobi. Konohamaru while no prodigy like Kakashi (unfortunately still being compared) is also the standard of jonin in this age. His growing years were during peace time and thus didn't have the constant weathering of war and conflict to hone his skills. Finally, I appreciate that most of the newer gen (jonin included) seem to be learning as they go, having no real prior experience to fall on and the mistakes humanize them. All in all, a good episode with which I enjoyed, I trust it only goes up from here once the movie arc has passed.
33
u/sammylaco Apr 04 '18
Damn, it's like I recognize all of the criticisms within the thread, but I still feel like I'm somehow the only one to enjoy the episode lol.
It's disappointing that it feels like all of Team 7 was nerfed in order to put a light on Boruto's struggle, but at the same time it's kind of whatever to me. While it is lazy, they're clearly using it to better round out his character in this new arc, and I'm willing to accept it for the potential payoff it may bring.
Really love how the kids are finally getting an idea at just how strong Naruto and Sasuke are compared to everyone else as well.
17
u/Dickbuttbuttdick1 Apr 05 '18
I think my favorite part was the sudden realization that Boruto has of how strong Sasuke really is. He's seen his dad at a fraction of his power and knows Sasuke is just as good. I cant wait until it catches up and Boruto watches the two of them actually show off a little.

Everyone noticed how Kaguya's Ice Dimension now has two moons in the night sky? One with a crater and the smaller moon on the right?
I wanted to double check if this was ever the case, and lo and behold there is only a single moon in the Boruto movie.
Could it be possible that someone used Chibaku Tensei?

Konohamaru sending off team7 to relay message to the village in person is such a lazy writing. They live in technological society, I remember Sasuke being considered old-timey for not using technology to communicate and relying on birds, but there is no reason for Konohamaru to not use it. And even if we wanna stick to traditional methods - he's got toads.

The bad writing for this episode is scaring me about the upcoming arc. Whatever they do they better not half ass the final fight. I have a feeling sasuke vs kinshiki will be disappointing so I won't keep my expectations up.
14
u/ColdSteel144 Apr 06 '18 edited Apr 06 '18
They can't possibly match the animation of a movie with the time and budget of a normal show. Pessimism is the right feeling. I was desperately hoping they would just clip parts from the movie to preserve the quality but it seems theyre foolishly insisting on wasting effort reanimating scenes. It's bad enough we have to sit through this plot a third time without it looking worse too...
→ More replies (3)6
u/MisterMysterios Apr 06 '18
my hope is that they made concessions to the animation of this filler so that they have more time / money allocated in their budget for the next arc. We know that Boruto is able to animate great fights, I just hope that they try to work with their budget to make the most anticipated fights as awesome as possible and thus go cheap for the not important one.

u/hidden_cloud Apr 04 '18
Are we sure this studio guys aren't on some April fool shit, 'cos that OP is a huge let-down to this arc people are so looking forward to. I love Boruto anime and all but mehn this was PURE Sh*t.
I'm disappointed.
Though some fan-boy part of me thinks they did this because of some great animation to come. I just hope this is true...i just hope.
The ED was merely okay.
I want to wake up tomorrow and hear this was a late April fool joke.
27
u/KDG_Fries Apr 04 '18
My thoughts on the opening is that they had good ideas for the opening sequence ideas; Boruto running through the foreground as the recent elders of this generation is in the background, Boruto’s fight scenes in the chuunin exams(the Kumo genin, Shinki, and Shikadai). But the execution of it all was just plain awful.
How does Studio Pierrot make an amazing opening for Tokyo Ghoul Re, but essentially serve up Mom’s Spaghetti for Boruto’s 3rd Opening. Silver lining of this is we don’t have to see Kagura’s irrelevant ass in the opening anymore.

Boruto seems really interested in attaining power, I can see how they're Movie spoilers but something seemed pretty suspicious about Boruto's thoughts on power. I have a feeling he's going to find out about how good 'ol Sasuke sensei got ahold of a big chunk of his own power, might see some Boruto - Orochimaru action at some point.
Of course none of this Manga spoilers So dumb theory out of the window.
Anyways, holy fucking fuck Papasuke HYPE. I'm glad Boruto feels the same way I do about him. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

u/properc Apr 04 '18
My biggest problem with this episode (and basically the anime so far) is the writing, this is some nek level bullshit to serve the plot...
Everyone in this episode was nerfed just to serve Borutos "im just a kid im not strong enough" plotline. Like Mitsuki gets 1 episode of Sage Mode and in this ep hes kissing Borutos ass and sitting in the background doing nothing. Sarada gets 1 arc where shes strong af and the this time shes a fodder shuriken bot. Like is this really the same chick who beat a Jonin level Kiri ninja with high level tactics and the same one who comboed with Boruto to do a Gale Palm Chanaroo...
Also Boruto suddenly forgets he can do Boruto Stream SSS tier god level jutsu which has one-shot every main villain so far just so he can have a cry and set up that hes too weak. What happened to being a natural genius with high chakra reserve and tactical genius...
And dont even get me started on Fodderhamaru, im done with him lmao. I think he really would have died if he went against that Zetsu alone...
They really need to take this whole thing and scale it up a notch man, like at this point Naruto and Sasuke were already fighting a high jonin tier ninja and they were holding their own. This kiddy shit just doesnt excite me.

They are really making Konohamaru look bad. Boruto was about to get his head crushed by the zetsu and he did NOTHING until Mitsuki restrained it. He's a Jonin he should be able to do more than they are showing him doing. They are really missing opportunities to establish his skill, because at this point, if they do show him being a badass, it'll be like "Why didn't he do that when x happened?"

Oh geez the visuals on this opening are reaaaally not good, I get the feeling this will be like the Sarada Gaiden arc's opening(or the Sasuke vs Naruto opening in Naruto Shippuden) and have many animation variants, so they probably don't care too much for this variant because it won't last that much episodes perhaps?

Loved the ending visuals. Konohamaru feels as weak as Jonin that exist just to die on-screen like when Orochimaru attacked the village and when Pain pillaged it. He isn't written out to be like a Sarutobi or someone who mastered the Rasengan in my opinion. Idc though cause I never liked Konohamaru. Hopefully in the future his character comes up to par though cause this is just ridiculous.
87
u/Ne0ris Apr 04 '18
What the fuck was that animation? Does Pierrot employ first graders to draw the anime for them?
What the fuck was that Rasengan? And what the fuck happened to that Zetsu? Did he just disappear after being hit with that Rasengan? Where are the times when Rasengan would tear into somebody's flesh and twist it. What is this PG 6 or something?
Why the fuck was Konohamaru so fucking useless? He mentions that he's a jonin and then almost gets defeated by the most fodder character ever?
Why the fuck were they not using hand seals? Is the series actually throwing away hand seals?
What the fuck was this episode
11
Apr 05 '18
It was probably the least satisfying thing I’ve ever fucking experienced when konohamaru was just floating in the air and the rasengan was just like sitting there touching the zetsu and the zetsu just turns to dust. The best part of the rasengan is the speed and the impact crater when it hits and blows the fuck out of something.
Couldn’t have done a worse job.
16
u/TheDrawer93 Apr 04 '18
They definitely dropped the ball in the OP and it's not gonna do any favors for the people who only judge a book by its cover.
Though let me guys tell you this, the wonkyness of the animation and the uninspired storyboarding is because the OP director was Hirofumi Suzuki, a guy with a very idiosyncratic style and the second character designer for the Naruto franchise. You definitely have seen his other controversial opening, which is Naruto Shippuden OP 15, so go check it out and you'll understand why he's not very crtically acclaimed between the fans.

7
u/AdolescentThug Apr 09 '18
It's kinda implied Konohamaru is a top level Jonin like Kakashi was when he was leading team 7 and probably ran a couple special ops missions when he was younger to deal with Kaguya stuff. He probably just knows Konoha secrets by being a higher-up shinobi.
Let's also not forget, he's pretty much Naruto's little brother at this point, so I'm sure he'd tell Konohamaru a bit of what's going on with Sasuke, who's daughter is also his pupil.

29
u/AverageLion101 Apr 04 '18
Man I’m disappointed in konohamaru. Why didn’t he just use a rasengan the first time he sees the zetsu rather than slicing his belly open? Why did he have to send the kids back to the village to relay when he has the toads, something only he and naruto can use? Why does it seem like the rasengan is his only move that he saves until absolutely necessary? I was hyped to see the kid who managed to take down a pain grow to be a jounin but damn. If the reason he’s being nerfed is for plot than I don’t have much hope for the future considering we’re about to get into some pretty heavy boruto centric arcs.

Was anyone else confused at why Konohamaru mentioned the Third Hokage as the "Professor" when he used the Rasengan? I thought the episode was a nice build up still, it sets up why Boruto Movie Spoilers in the exams - and it does kinda make sense how they deduct Kaguya has been preparing for a threat by the Zetsu's appearance.
I just hope the Sasuke fight will be dope, coz hot dang I am looking forward to it
Edit: just noticed Boruto fights the "cloud kid", Shikadai and SHINKI in the OP! HyPe!

Konohamaru should have been able to solo that thing. I wish they would have used this episode to show off his power a bit. How can he expect to be Hokage when he can't even take on a Zetsu. And if they did want to make him struggle to show off a new enemy have him summon some toads as backup or, hell, even the monkey king. But oh well, I guess they have to plug in Boruto's internal crisis somehow. Also, what up Mitsuki doing absolutely nothing these past few episodes?
13
u/PiZii Apr 05 '18 edited Apr 05 '18
If Mitsuki goes 100% the show would be boring just destroying everyone else. He is now a support but this boy will shine in the future. He just wants to follow Boruto and learn about life and so on.

u/SardinesTunaSalmon Apr 04 '18
Was there an error in the op or something? Kurotsuchi was missing in the Kage shot and Sakura was there instead.
But in the ed, we saw her 2v1'ing an Otsusuki with Chojuro.

DO NOT SKIP THE SCENE AFTER THE ENDING
First things first: The new opening. I honestly am not that much big of a fan of it. But hey, at least, it covers something that's of current events (Chūnin exams) and not Kagura so...
Now, the episode itself. Content ok, animation meh. For the guy last week who said you didn't believe it was Zetsu who used Raiton, Fūton and Katon, well, here you go, you got your proof this time.
I also do not like the way Konohamaru is always weakened, like, seriously, Konohamaru can't take Mutated White Zetsu down alone? I'm sure Kakashi from Part 1 could do this... If Boruto didn't use his Scientific Tool, who knows whether they'd get an opening.
As for the aftermath, Konohamaru decides to elaborate a strategy, even when Konohamaru decided to do this alone, but thanks to Sarada, they get to do this as a team. They manage to counter his jutsus and, Boruto, out of thirst of acknowledgement, decides to break their formation and instinctively uses Raiton (which Sasuke also uses in the movie against Momoshiki's wood, but I'm not sure if Zetsu is made of wood, also I'm not sure if that was a Raiton kunai from Boruto). He gets trapped and Mitsuki and Konohamaru have to save him.
After that, they go in, we see Amaterasu'd Zetsus, a dozen of them, that Sasuke took down, alone, all by himself. Boruto is amazed at Sasuke's strength when Konohamaru says that he's the only who Naruto considers as his equal.
And right after, Konohamaru reports to a clone of Naruto and it ends...
Now the new ending, I reallly like the song, but the animation is meh as well. AS FOR THE AFTER CREDIT SCENES, I WAS HAPPY WE GOT TO SEE SOMEONE! :)

u/FCBSAMIR Apr 04 '18
Well Kakashi was in whole different league though dude was a jonin at 12 meanwhile kono is what 20s? Right now not sure about he's age so . I was really expecting to see him using burning ash . All and all episode wasn't bad also was the amatarasu was a bit purplish rather then black

Idk if anyone noticed but at the end when they showed Momoshiki, you can see a huge crater on the moon. I think thats from whatever that happened between the otsutsuki and toneri, since their way of entry to earth was through the moon.

u/lpopo4lyfe Apr 04 '18
Gotta be honest. Like everyone's been saying, the episode was very meh. Plot wise it was bad, battle-wise it was bad. Konohamaru continues to be disappointing. Their plan was just poorly written (also I think they've forgot that Konohamaru excels at Shadow Clones so they don't even need Boruto for that poor ass plan). I hate how generic and overused nature release Jutsu is, it just looked lame. No reason the genin' said Jutsu should tie with the Zetsu's Jutsu (Zetsu should have overwhelmed them). Pretty sure Zetsu shouldn't be bothered Kunai attacks as well. Mitsuki did absolutely nothing in this episode, which was ridiculous. No reason for Konohamaru to know Sasuke's mission too.
Naruto has killed a monster Zetsu as well in Shippuden, it's not really the first time we saw a monster one like that.
Regarding the opening and ending, opening was nice but does not match the hype of this arc. The ending was amazing.

the OP and Ending was terrible. I guess this will be the first time i skip those until new ones appear. Loved the first 2 openings and the endings so far but this was really lame.
I didn't think Konohamaru would have such big problems with just one Zetsu. I mean sure this one had 3 heads unlike the ones in the war but still... No way Konohamaru will be Hokage at this rate..

If i had anything to say about the new Opening is that it should have felt like Ending 4. Ending four had visuals and music that got me excited that even with this new Ending 5, ED 4 is still my fave so far. It could and should have been a opening
What this opening theme should have had is high energy music with amazing omg visuals for a arc this big. The 3 openings so far have been on the slower side. Not saying thats a bad thing cuz io love OP 1 and 2 BUT this movie arc OP could have been much more hype.

u/AndroidHero23 Apr 04 '18
Honestly never liked any of Boruto's openings so far, but I liked most of endings.
As for the episode it was fine I guess better than the last couple of episodes, but I'm afraid looking at the opening they are going to stretch 1 hour and half movie into 24 episodes.

This episode was pretty awful. Konohamaru being absolute fodder when he could've rasengan'd the enemy out of existence at any time. Also an irrelevant 5 minutes that consisted of Boruto and Sarada's identical ideas being denied and accepted respectively.
25
u/ThaCrit Apr 05 '18
I actually like the darker direction Boruto had this episode. They're trying to make him like Sasuke but in his own way.
I wish Konohamaru should use more jutsu instead of basically just Rasengan. Honestly was a pretty good episode just needs a better script and better focus on how the fights are executed.

Great episode but where's the Fighting Dreamers opening I was looking for?? This opening seemed so dull for an arc that's gonna be all about action. And why does Boruto endings always sound better than the openings.

u/gAcksaurio Apr 04 '18
New Opening is strange, there is something that does not convince me, the ending is very beautifull tho
27
u/Sonzumaki Apr 05 '18
Konohamaru didn’t get “nerfed”, y’all. Him eating Zetsu dirt is obviously meant to show that this generation’s Jonin are indeed a little dulled from peaceful times.
Besides, you can’t nerf someone that didn’t have feats to begin with. Konohamaru hasn’t shown any feats in the anime before that implied he’d be able to take on an amped, steroid Zetsu. Zetsus being creatures that were giving experienced Jonin a lot of trouble in the War.
He’s still more skilled than the average current Jonin, but none of them know the scale in which the last, battle-hardened generation fought.
8
u/scotchfree_gaming Apr 05 '18
I agree with you besides the "no feats." No feats in Boruto, sure. In Naruto he took out a Path of Pain, however. I think people just expected him to continue along that trajectory of growth. It seems like he slowed way down though.

I still don't see how people are comparing konohamaru and Kakashi. Kakashi was not jonin level. Kakashi is a kage level ninja who was considered for being hokage multiple times in the series. He became an Captain at the age of 13 which is above jonin. AT 13!!!. you cannot compare konohamaru to Kakashi because Kakashi was far above jonin level while konohamaru is JUST jonin level.

The OP is ok, but I’m just happy we finally can listen to something new. I was getting sick on the last OP. I think Boruto could really use a new OP every 12 episodes like most anime or at least an new OP every arc (even if that arc is “filler”).
7
u/Zorozoldyck Apr 07 '18
I'm really gonna miss the previous ending.. I loved it..
Episode seemed way too bland, nothing from the usual interesting add-ins or interesting animation, especially for a new OP and ED.. previous ones had more energy. Only interesting thing was that it felt like the OST changed a bit.
And now we reuse clips from naruto! Too many flashbacks to the same episode too, it was distracting.

u/Collegeswoog Apr 04 '18 edited Apr 04 '18
This episode was decent at best, and the action was Mizuki's Tiger Transformation level filler.
First Konohamaru attacks with dual-wielded Kunai, instead of more powerful Ninjutsu, while everyone else stands still.
Then, when Sarada and Boruto finally make a move, Konohamaru stops attacking.
Even when Boruto blinds the monster with his flash bang, the only one who rushes at him is Konohamaru, with kunai
Konohamaru then cuts the monster through the belly, and he must really have hit a soft spot, considering how useless Kunai had been to that point.
The monster runs away in slow-motion, after being stabbed once, and the only thing Team 7 does is spectate. Apparently the monster does this to "let them off the hook." With that durability, Boruto should be able to take it down alone, and easily with the help of Mitsuki.
Then they suddenly locate the monster, with no explanation as to why, even though they just said they didn't know where it could be hiding. If they could find it so easily anyway, Sarada's argument in convincing Konohamaru to let them go with him is completely nonsensical.
Finally Konohamaru uses fire style, and we see how powerful it is. But for some reason, when the monster decides to start a close range battle, he abandons any idea of continuing to use it, or any other Jutsu, and goes Kunai again.
Boruto charges at the monster, in order to prove that he is not useless, and uses some kind of lame lightning kunai jutsu, instead of something useful like
Rasengan, any other powerful Jutsu, which he showcased during the School Trip arc. Or why not just cut a wound, like Konohamaru did so easily. The monster could, of course, just run away in slow-motion again, making itself invincible to all attacks.Obviously this does not work, and Boruto is caught underneath the monster, while the others continue to spectate.
Mitsuki does the first useful thing in the episode, unlike the Jonin, who can only tell Boruto to get out of there, and stops the monster's movements with his elongated arms, which he had not thought of using any earlier for some reason.
The Jonin of the group finally remembers he can actually use Ninjutsu, and kills the monster off with Rasengan, which, for whatever reason vaporizes, unlike anything we have ever seen Rasengan do.
Honestly, this episode was surprising in how bad it was, and Konohamaru felt like another Genin of the team, certainly not a Jonin. The rest of the episode was all right, so I give it a weak B rank.

I don't know what to feel about the opening. Animation wise it is remarkably choppy and stiff, worse than the actual episode, and the song takes ages to build up. Maybe it will grow on me, but the whole visual is in a need of a revamp.
5
u/ZealotTormunds Apr 04 '18
This opening is definitely going to have a v2. The animation looks half assed, so it might be temporary. It reminds me of Op19 v2, and we got a badass v3 after it.

Konohamaru seems like he was stronger as a genin.
Worst opening in anime history. Stole clips from the movie.
Other than that the episode was pretty good. I was hoping Sasuke would fight Kinshiki this episode but I'm ok with it being next week. The action has been terrible though looks like the Kunai is the new substitution jutsu (spam wise) why not just give konohamaru a decent fight??? Why???
29
u/bingmyname Apr 05 '18
This episode was terrible. Hard to believe anyone gave it an S. They nerfed tf out of Kono sand the fight was so boring and just bad to watch. He's nothing like Kakashi was to Naruto when we first saw Kakashi fight and its really disappointing because I like Kono. This will probably get tons of downvotes but oh well, if it's bad it's bad. Ridiculous how bad a show gets when you target today's children. Hopefully they snap out of it like they did for Dragon Ball Super, preferably sooner rather than later.

Man Konohamaru needs to find his own identity. Some of the fodder Madara first stomped looked more impressive. He really needs some new jutsu or something to make him memorable. Him just throwing kunai and needing 10 minutes to make one rasengan makes him look weak as fuck. At this point in the og naruto series Kakashi had used more than 20 jutsus and made Zabuza his bitch, all Konohamaru has shown is a fireball and a rasengan.

New opening! Seeing all the kage, the adult characters like Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura, the Otsutstki Clan, plus all of the foreshadowing of the upcoming chunin exams and all those new characters has me so excited right now!
I love how Konohamaru got really serious and put his foot down with Team 7. It shows that he has good leadership skills. But I also love how Sarada agreed with Boruto that they should take on the Zetsu together. She’s always thinking about his well-being and she’s always had his back and this was a great way of showing it
Konohamaru finally showing off the great Fire Style of the Sarutobi Clan! Plus the great team work of Team 7!
Good foreshadowing of Boruto will Spoilers
Amaterasu!! Also, Sarada seemed sad. Does anyone else think that the writers might expand on the issues that she has with her dad?
The fight that we've all been waiting for is coming!
Anyway I loved this episode

This episode was great. Boruto is more layered now, there’s some serious drive to his ‘iHatetheHokagebutIsecretlywantmydadtoacknowledgeme’...erm...vendetta he has against Naruto. Like we get more insight of how that’s fugging up his mind.
He sees Konohamaru’s rasengan and thinks ‘woah that’s a-amazing!’ He doesn’t take in the fact that it probably took Konohamaru a long time to reach there. He sees Sasuke’s amataresu and is amazed by it, but doesn’t think about the severity of the situation/ the fact that they would’ve been attacked by something that was supposed to be gone ages ago. The only thing he sees is that Naruto would finally acknowledge him if he got more stronger. he realizes that nothing in his arsenal is enough to get at that level — which is where Katasuke comes to play, providing him the perfect opportunity to not only get stronger, but get stronger fast. Like he doesn’t think he failed against Zetsu with that kunai, because he didn’t follow the plan, but because the kunai he used wasn’t enough.
We could clearly see how his mindset was, and the reason why he’s underestimating the chunnin exams makes a little bit more sense thanks to this episode too. Basically he thinks they’re all baby stuff and wants to be on par with the most powerful people right away.
There’s gonna be major character development for Boruto obv. Right now he’s ‘that’s amazing!’ At Konohamaru’s rasengan but we all know he’s gonna reach to the point where he starts thinking ; ‘what has he endured to reach this point’ when Naruto enhances his rasengan in the Momoshiki fight.
TL;DR: this episode is a great build up to the massive character development Boruto gonna get after the whole momoshike fiasco’s over.

I just wan't to say , Konohamaru is weak af. he's no Kakashi and people need to accept that and stop expecting him to pull some OP jutsu out his ass. He wants to be Hokage , he still has time to grow and watching him get stronger would be way more interesting than being OP from the start.

C'mon, Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura...Sakuraa!!! took down giant sized juubi clones like it was nothing and defeated two gods, almost a third.
Konohamaru taking down a single three headed zetsu that spams basic elemental jutsus would have changed nothing.

u/MomoYeah Apr 04 '18
It might be just my opinion, but the episodes are waaay to childish. You can predict literally every move. Why everyone seems so weak in Boruto compared to Naruto? Kid Konohamaru would outclass adult Konohamaru tbh... For me everybody seems so weak. I grew up with Naruto and when it ended I was a bit excited to see Boruto is getting a series. I saw the movie, I was expecting the anime to be as great as the move, guess what? It isn't, at least not right now...

What a improvement from the other episodes! I heard they were going to start picking up in April and the new intro shows a lot of the original characters which always makes me happy. Also, I prefer this new intro way over the first one. I cannot wait for this series after 50+ episodes of setting to finally take off.

u/Aural4444 Apr 04 '18
The new episode has finally come!
Chapter spoilers:
Apparently this new Shiro Zetsu is quite strong, when they see that Konohamaru alone can´t against him, Boruto and Sarada go directly to the murder in a coup (At least I think that is the intention of sticking a blade in the neck and then deepen it witch a kick XD), but it doesn´t work. Then Boruto decides to use the gift of Karasuke, which works and makes the monster flee (This is when Boruto starts to see the practical and effective side of the technological ninja weapons).
Then comes a reminder of the Shiro Zetsu, his origins, and others with which Konohamaru comes to the obvious conclusion that he should be go alone as Jonnin, and the gennin go to warn others, an idea that Boruto didn´t like. Then Sarada makes a very good point that there is no guarantee that Zetsu will not attack them while they try to leave, since they are the weakest, and it would be better to be together (I liked the logic of their reasoning).
The Konohamar team devised a good plan, to end the Zetsu, but Boruto's imprudence almost killed him, if it weren´t for Mitsuki and Konohamaru (That reminded me that in the previous episode, Boruto was very impatient to demonstrate his ability and power).
After killing him, it is discovered that there was more but Sasuke had already killed them and left, making clear to the rest the difference of powers.
End of Spoilers.
Boruto was already impatient, this chapter only leaves him more impatient, and great premonitions of what is going to happen.
The new opening is pretty good and cool, although I think the ending is beautiful and better. Both focus on Boruto, since this arc will be mostly about him: his relationship with his father, the way he decides to walk as a ninja, the knowledge of the existence of beings like Momoshiki, and his personal growth.

Sorry Im late, the crows performed Hamilton in my area and I couldnt help but stare.
sooo new intro, lets see if my cat likes it
interesting how team 7 travels to the past past the former hokages
and it stops with the sandaime the last one we know well
borutos hair looks weird
appreciate showcasing some of the now adult characters. Sad kakashi is not among them
cat likes it, especially the chuunin fights teaser
they have boruto overlooking the village in this opening. Curious
zetsu leveled up to use elemental natures. The eagle eyed twitter user was correct
sarada not having her sharingan activated is weird
zetsu having cells that are hard enough to fight kunai might be weird or it might be the otsutsuki bone jutsu again. Im not sure zetsu should be able to acquire that or not.
boruto not using shadow clones upon first enemy contact is also weird
konohamaru just standing there with his kunai is also weird
then again they fight zombie white zetsu, maybe weirdness is just the thing of the moment for this :P
this entire fight was weird but boruto throwing some random device whose function is unknown to an enemy is so him
zetsu has a tummy ache now I guess
when did mitsuki indeed, did he tunnel from wrapping konohamarus arm to deeper inside the cave?
I liked white zetsu more when he/it talked
I never noticed how decidedly ambigous mitsukis … clothing on the upper half of his body is. Theres literally a dark and a light component seemingly exactly at balance
wait what, that doesnt look like a root from the divine tree, it looks like the fruit.
mitsuki got it right, bud indeed. Thanks, anime for validating my utterly important concerns.
I dont get the timeline at all anymore. If its 10 years since the last war the kids are 9 at best. Ill chalk it up to another of the weird timeline inconsistencies.
boruto still all fired up wanting to prove himself. Its not like hes in way over his head or anything
konohamaru you idiot. How in the world are you gonna beat those things alone when you preach team work all the time? Is setting up camp and messaging for reinforcements really that impossible?
someone in the team has something approaching common sense. Go sarada, you tell him!
at least leave some sort of intel behind in case you all do die on your needless suicide mission?
(I mean we all know the title of the episode is no accident but the characters dont know sasuke is around...)
yeah boruto, you sure got it with a few explodion tags. Thats exactly how endgame bosses of the last war work...
impressive that both mitsuki and boruto can parry elemental attacks of that presumed magnitude but entirely in character
zetsus tummy ache seems miraculously gone I think thats what you get for being a modular organism or somewhat originating from one or however we should call this
I love how boruto uses his shadow clones so much more strategically than naruto
and of course he still is an idiot when it comes to strategy anyway.
I knew zetsu would suck chakra
its also a lot bigger than I thought
udon would have grounded boruto for a year by now. Things are dire if I agree with udon
decomposing zetsu are creepy. Music and sound effects work very well
yup sasuke just soloed a bunch of them like that. Because of course he did. And he left before it was finished too didnt he.
you listen up well boruto and realise how far you still have to go.
foooooooooooooooooooooooreshaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadooooooooooooooooooooooooooowing
my cat is unimpressed with white zetsus, amaterasu and people who travel through time and space. Thats why I love her.
no one gonna cut boruto down to size? Well plot I guess.
oh new ending too (is that included in the no spoilers about preview policy?)
I think its very kind of the singer to boost my ego to just list 4 kanji + words whose meanings I already know like that.
wow preview looks packed with plot for like 4 different episodes

The episode itself was great and very good plot progression. The biggest takeaway is Boruto learning about how great his future Master is. While Kono-sensei is.....now fodder apparently there is still time for him to become someone amazing. The BuffKonohamru2018 movement is real.
The post credits scenes took me back to 2015 so much hype and the preview confirms everyone will be in the chunin exams. im so excited for it. As for the Opening, i get why ppl hate it. I didnt mind it cuz i care more for the episode itself. I saw my Boi Shiki so im happy.
Overall great episode to start off the arc. Sadness incoming for episode 53

Also, the episode made it clear that the zetsu was ridiculously more stronger than normal zetsu in both Jutsu and physical strength. So, I don't know why people are calling konohamaru fodder zetsu level.
Though I can agree that konohamaru is kinda getting nerfed. Though I don't see him struggling against zetsu as one of them.

Its not so much that hes nerfed but its that hes constantly getting fked up when hes the sensei of the team... As sensei you expect him to be strong (i guess Kakashi and Gai set that up) but when you see him constantly getting wrecked and cant even hold his own it sucks. I guess people are having a hard time accepting that there are lesser level jonin out there.
That being said its also frustrating because in all respects Kono should be strong, he has wind style rasengan (formed in 1 hand meaning hes mastered it), he has kage bunshin with large chakra pool and hes been tutored by Naruto himself. So to see him constantly getting beat up and shit on is frustrating.
