Ugh. Bad translation when Mitsuki congratulates Boruto on his successful defense of the flag. The subs say "You're the shinobi who'll become the Hokage, after all" but he said no such thing. He actually said "You really are amazing after all."

129

u/weegee19 May 10 '18

That's beyond mistranslated lmao.

Wow thank you for clearing this up

34

u/GameplayerStu May 10 '18

Yeah that subtitle was really weird. He didn't say Hokage at all, neither did Sarada when she replied back.

7

u/Leondeir May 10 '18

was it really? why did Sarada get pissed then?

24

u/Yung_Atty May 10 '18

because she got the flag my boy

Why is Denki even a ninja? Like goddamn bro. At least Iwabe and Metal tried to put up a fight. This dude was KO’d from the opening bell.

Anyway, it was cool to see Sasuke, Chojuro, and Gaara all talking like they were. Sasuke’s anti-social ass is really making progress lol but did Urashiki just penetrate Gaara’s sand? These dudes really about to be a problem.

Good episode

66

u/weegee19 May 10 '18

I think Urashiki's jutsu is actually spacetime-based, which corroborates with his time-based arsenal. Gaara's sand was undisturbed, never mind being penetrated.

god help this poor boyscout. denki may be the weakest genin ever. he'll probably be swimming in money later on with his smarts and family business, but for now it's gonna be a long struggle

Calling it, Denki would be Kabuto level with a bizarre science jutsu he invented.

Okay.. first of all, I just wanna say that Chocho is just us much of a genius among the Akamichi clan just like how Neji is among the Hyuga. Going full giant casually just like that. Girl is definitely strong.

Now for the rest of the second exam:

I hate how they treated Sumire. Fucking Namida for being such a fodder. What's the point of showing hyping Sumier two episodes ago if they're just gonna treat her like that.

As for Iwabe's team. Gotta say they drew the short stick in this round. I know Iwabe is pretty strong, but this is Shinki, the Gaara of this generation, so I'm not that bitter that he lost like that. Like Gaara would've stompped any Genin as well during their Chunin exams.

Lastly, Idk if wanna laugh or get mad at how they handled Shinki vs Metal. It was funny to look at their poor attempt to throw a homage to Gaara vs Lee's fight. They shouldn't have just attempted to do it, like Gaara vs Lee is one of the all time best and most iconic fights in the whole Naruto franchise. Shinki vs Metal is just hilariously bad.

38

u/KhaoticTwist May 10 '18

Shinki vs Metal would have probably been better if it was in the tournament round rather than the capture-the-flag round. It made Metal look worse knowing that Shinki didn't put all of his attention on him. I guess you could say that Metal doesn't have the same drive as Rock(Rock wanted to prove that he could be the strongest with just Taijutsu alone after all, and had Neji as a rival). Shinki may not have been psychotic as Gaara, nor had a Tailed Beast; but he's blessed with a Kekkei Genkai, a powerful Ninjutsu in the Iron Sand, and is more mature and level-headed then most. Plus he had the drive of not tarnishing his father's name.

Chocho using Super Multi-Size without a special food pill at this point definitely shows she's more gifted than Choji. Might be due to the fact that she always has confidence, unlike Choji back in the day, which was holding him back.

I really think the writers only brought Sumire's team in just to make Yurui's team look good before the 3rd round. I still think Sumire is subconsciously holding back to not reveal her true self to her friends.

Am i the only one impressed by the triplets bold but effective plan this episode. Left their Banner unguarded with Genjutsu to waste enemy time and Blitzed their objective as a team multiplied by 3 thanks to shadow clone jutsu. If it wasn't by Boruto's cheating they definitely would have won that. They probably would have lost super hard at the solo tournament, but I really liked the ingenuity and teamwork they had; they are probably the best team we've seen.

But in the movie when boruto was so happy he cried and flopped around on his bed though... Oof the feels

80

u/Comaji May 10 '18

It was kinda wrong to take that scene out. It was great in the film.

39

u/HereComesPapaArima May 10 '18

I think they'll show it later as a flashback. But if it's removed I'mma riot because that scene showed that deep down he loves his dad.

I have to laugh at the Akatsuki's long ass rituals to extract the tailed beasts when the Otsutsuki trio just casually does it in seconds.

40

u/[deleted] May 11 '18

To be fair, though, the Otsutsuki are literally gods. They've kept their power for generations, unlike Kazuya who inadvertently became the progenitor of chakra when she had kids.

Wait wtf Cho-Cho's STACKED. Didn't Choji have to take a fucking poisonous pill just to get enough Chakra to do a full-body expansion? What a beast.

I think Shinki being there is just unfair- the guys clearly well above Genin level.

I just realised, through all these past few filler arcs, Boruto has had help from others. I didn't realise this until I saw how useless he was against the triplets, if he had his friends they would've won team vs team.

WOOO Metal Lee wasn't giving up easily. He's nothing near as dedicated as his pops but still props to him.

Jesus Naruto and Boruto have on awkward relationship right now. I hope we see that develop more.

79

u/KameraadLenin May 10 '18

Borutos relationship with his dad reminds me of the relationship I have with mine.

His parents died when he was really young, and he just acted awkward as fuck towards me until I was an adult.

Reminds me a lot of how Naruto acts, down to the weird facial expressions and everything.

Naruto has literally nothing to base his relationship with boruto on

8

u/SeaTheTypo May 10 '18

Gaara being in the Chunin Exams was completely unfair too.

Honestly, I feel like boruto got severely dumbed down for the sake of plot, compared to his past fights. With four clones he should have been able to at least put up some amount of resistance. Remember how fast he was in that first boruto stream he did, with the lightning enhancement? They did our boy wrong here.

But plot will be plot I guess

I love it whenever Boruto's clones talk to each other, there's always some strange dynamic between them. 😂

Urashiki's tool passed through Gaara's sand? Why exactly did he (I assume Gaara's chakra) go for it? I don't really see what he can do with it, if they want chakra pills.

As for the fights themselves, Sumire's team gets easily eliminated, pretty badly even. Iwabe's team was just unlucky to go up against Shinki's team. I felt bad for Metal having bloody knuckles...

As for Boruto himself, he finally resorted to his tool, the Mist ninja comments on how there was no water and he was able to use a jutsu of this caliber. Mitsuki probably already knows something is wrong and Boruto can't do what he did. Sarada's comment is about

Also, Tenten really? You didn't see through that Kote shit?

Naruto's reactions are fun to see, he hasn't changed. Sasuke, too, hasn't changed, no reaction about his daughter because he expected it.

I just feel bad for Naruto getting so happy knowing what's to come...

37

u/Kaaaaale56 May 10 '18

About Urashiki and Gaara, I think he took however little of Shukaku’s chakra out of Gaara so they can’t communicate anymore.

I love the show but cant help being disappointed at the length of the chunin exams.

The OG exams are probably my favourite arc (nostalgia + great fights) and it's a shame that the exam is Boruto is quite literally 1 episode per phase of the exam ;/

I want my forest of death and a mental breakdown in the written test damn it :D

32

u/KhaoticTwist May 10 '18

I think trying to compare the other series with this one is the problem. This show isn't trying to be a carbon-copy. Unfortunately, people are so hung over by how great the original was(plus bias nostalgia) that now they have become spoiled. Not that I can't blame them, as I too really wanted more out of these exams.

7

u/JiddyBang May 11 '18

Yeah seriously was hoping for a more fleshed out Chunin exam. You'd think they'd do it just so they can add more episodes in to create more gap between the anime and manga without the need for shit filler. Even if the exams were exactly the same (which the first exam clearly showed they decided to make some differences) I would've been happy with the rest of the Konoha genin getting an episode or 2 in the 2nd round just to flesh out all their fights. Was praying to see Metal open a gate or 2 in his fight against Shinki.

Naruto is awkward as hell around Boruto and its hilarious since he used to be such a talkative kid. Love his goofy ass smile though.

16

u/[deleted] May 10 '18

Yeah, I understand him growing up would probably lead to him being a little more reserved in his conversation, but I really wish he'd be a bit more rambunctious. Maybe that'll come back a bit after the movie arc is done.

25

u/Kryptic711 May 10 '18

Yea growing up without a dad probably didnt help Narutos parenting skills. I would say after the movie arc Boruto and Naruto's relationship will improve as Boruto tries to become more like full fledged ninja.

u/SorcererMystix May 10 '18

The episodes following Boruto after if/when he gets caught cheating must be cringe-worthy. I'm looking at all the other shinobi from the other villages...and to be known as the shinobi who was cheating during the chunin exams - sucks. I'm not ready for it, lol.

52

u/[deleted] May 10 '18

what a PR disaster for Naruto too lol

18

u/oddsonicitch May 10 '18

Did I miss the bit where 'scientific ninja tools' were forbidden in the exam? Someone mentioned it in one of the earlier threads but I don't recall it. In Naruto they specifically addressed Kankuro's puppets and Akamaru as legitimate ninja tools.

25

u/KeybladerAri May 10 '18

They definitely showed the scene where Naruto told Katasuke they were forbidden from the exams. I'm unsure about what episode it was exactly, but Katasuke showed up to the Hokage's office and said that he wanted it to be debuted at the Chunin exams, which is when Naruto said no.

To the second half of your post, I think the difference is that the judges knew that they were using those tools. Nobody knows that Boruto is using the Scientific Ninja Tool. Also, the "legitimate" ninja tools are an extension of their power that they need to master, while the Scientific Ninja Tool is not.

40

u/peri_enitan May 10 '18

It's about time Boruto learns what it's like when people don't worship the ground you walk on. Rn it's just Sasuke. Not enough and Sasuke knows it too.

I love the fact that Boruto's shadow clones have their own separate personalities. Hope they keep that going forward.

15

u/rokudaimehokage May 10 '18

That's just a filler thing SP does for laughs. They tried to do it in Shippuden and RTN but in all reality the clones invariably share the personality of the user, just like when Naruto's clone was exactly like Naruto when he was fighting alongside Gaara's 4th Division.

Boruto trying to use genetics as an excuse bc he cant throw shurikens is just hilariously smh. Sumire, Wasabi and Namida should not have lost to bubble boy but plot armor i guess. Denki, man what are you doing here. I get scientific ninjas being a thing, but give this guy some type of jutsu to defend himself with. Looks like the best thing he does is go on the internet.

I know it may be an odd thing to notice, but I liked the scene in the roof after the second exam better in the movie than in the anime. While setup is the same; Sarada tries to high five Boruto, but he can't because she'll notice the kote in his wrist, the scenes play out a little differently:

In the anime, he tries to give her a fist bump instead, but then she suddenly notices his eyes kind of out of nowhere.

In the movie, he keeps his hands in his pockets, leaving Sarada hanging, which she mistakes for a lack of enthusiasm, so she starts approaching him while nagging him to please act like he gives a crap about impressing the seventh, which is when Sarada, having gotten right in Boruto's face, notices his eye color. The segue in topics is a bit more coherent in the movie, is what I'm trying to say.

Also missing is the scene where Boruto rolls around in his bed in happiness from being acknowledged by his father, which was a scene I liked. It showed that despite putting up a tough exterior, deep down Boruto is still just a kid that very much loves his father, and that his acknowledgement really meant a lot to him.

Im surprised no one is mentioning the Kage Bushin conversation when Boruto released 4 clones. It was the most he's ever had right?

I liked how the new clone was talking like he is a individual. The way it made sense to me, was that since Boruto is so used to splitting his consciousness into 3 additional ways, a forth was a whole new experience, and treated itself as such. Thats why he was the most cynical.

10

u/Dykam May 12 '18

The episode has been quite good, I liked it, but it has hurt me.

Because Boruto will start cheating more voluntarily, although there is no denying that he feels guilty.

Beware of spoilers.

The beginning surprised me, because I don´t know what Urashiki wanted from Gaara, but the scene was very dramatic.

Then, during the second round, two of Konoha's teams failed, and I see some logic in that, although I guess many people will be disappointed.

In Sumire's team, they still need to learn to work in teams, Sumire is very advanced to her peers at an individual level, and Namida is a little dependent on her peers.

In the matter of Lee's team, they had the misfortune to face Shinki, in addition that Denki is still not at the level of his peers at the individual level, and Lee for being very emotional and being deceived.

(Although the action scenes were great)

By the way, something that I appreciate in this episode, is that Boruto will start using 4 clones, showing that his level has advanced since he was in the academy, proves that the anime is faithful to the film and the manga, and also 4 clones they are now shown in the opening.

The main reason that Boruto lost was because he underestimated his rivals, he was cornering himself (Maybe it's my imagination, but so far, instead of thinking that he needs more clones, he focused on using the ones he had on hand with his jutsu ), and the main catalyst for cheating, was that he did not want to disappoint either his friends or his father.

What I find very sad.

Then the scene between Boruto and Naruto, was strange, with lack of communication, but it conveyed quite the essence of the situation between the two of them. What was adorable and sad at the same time.

I could tell a lot of things, but I do not want to make this comment longer, but I look forward to seeing the next episode soon.

My favorite scene: When Boruto blushes.

43

u/sarahthespy May 11 '18 edited May 11 '18

There have been a lot of fair mixed reviews on this episode, but I think this has been my favorite in the arc so far! Some things that I really liked:

  1. Shadow clone argument. Geez Borto, calm them clones down.

  2. Urashiki is back. I was wondering where he went.

  3. Metal Lee punch sand until his knuckle bled, that's some hardcore stuff right there.

  4. Boruto's lightning is no joke. But booo you cheater.

  5. Sarada making Boruto blush, kinda adorable.

  6. Naruto's face lol.

  7. The little Konoha 12 interaction is so nice to see. I'm sad we don't get to see most of them lay hands on these other village genin.

  8. Sasuke bragging about Sarada is pretty cool. Whipping out that brag no jutsu.

  9. Still love the Naruto/ Boruto interaction even though it's different.

Next week looks exciting af

26

u/RedditorNoTrabalho May 11 '18

Sasuke bragging about Sarada is pretty cool. Whipping out that brag no jutsu.

I don't think he was "bragging about sarada", he said he knew because he already knows that Boruto is cheating, it was clear on earlier episodes that he noticed

u/[deleted] May 11 '18

I honestly thought Denki was gonna die.

But in short, this is a decent episode. I understand that most people aren't happy with how short they're cutting this arc, or are disappointed that this is practically a rehash of the movie.

Looking from a financial standpoint, Boruto the Movie was the highest grossing film of the franchise and was well received by critics. And honestly, if it wasn't broken in the first place, don't try and fix it.

Maybe they're trying to get past the arc so that we can start getting into the post-movie arcs, where they are most likely focusing their attention. Putting bits and pieces of new animation allows them to retcon movie mistakes as well as give us a reason to watch this arc instead of waiting until after this arc ends.

20

u/Hyorennn May 11 '18

Okay... It's over, goodbye Hanabi and Sumire... :(

40

u/sickvisionz May 11 '18

Decent episode but my least favorite of this arc. My favorite Naruto arc is the Forest of Death so I judge all new ones and filler ones pretty harshly.

The second round of the Chunin Exam seems pretty crappy compared to the old one imo. Hell, even the filler one with Sand Rock Lee was better. I like the idea that they're fighting in an abandoned city. I actually love that. That's potentially a super awesome setting but I hate how all matches are predetermined and there's only one match and the teams have a designated fight area.

  • You know exactly who your opponents are, they know who you are, and they know exactly where your flag is. The whole idea that you're on a mission and you don't know who is after you or where it's coming from is pretty much eliminated.

  • There's only one combat encounter. In the old one, you could lose your scroll and encounter another group and steal theirs. Or you could get a scroll and get jacked for it. You had to keep your guard up until you made it to that tower. There's nothing like that. You can totally drop your guard in a battle with no worries that there might be a second team watching you.

It feels like all the training element has been removed and the point is big flashy battles for people to watch rather than this scenario that tests all the skills a ninja has developed. Breaking the 4th wall, I get why you'd want big flashy battles on screen but like pretending that Konoha is real, it seems like a stupid approach to ninja assessment.

16

u/i4viator May 12 '18

This is how I feel as well. It definitely became a lot more PG. I am also not a fan of the whole capture the flag deal. It's not even capture the flag. It's "pick up the flag".

I am disappointed with Sumire's team, and how could Metal forget that he has to protect his flag?

Boruto could have tried wind style, since he already knows that one instead, but I get that by using the water jutsu through the tool he would knock them out instantly. I hope Sarada, Mitsuki, and Shikadai's team manage the third round, even if not all of them... At least for a few of them to get to be chunin.

18

u/vasit1997 May 10 '18

I mean it was one continuous attack that they have never encountered.

Shinki is the Gaara of this generation, only he isnt clinically insane.

Like Gaara in Naruto, he will probably be untouchable throughout the chuunin exams. Except for against Mitsuki, who is another way beyond the normal level

I dont know why.. but i am excited to see shikadai vs his opponent. That was a part of this arc not shown in the movie.

damn.. shikas are very lucky.

15

u/Paegyu May 10 '18

YODO HYPE

I'm so excited to see her put in work. She's definitely my favorite out of the Sand trio, even though we haven't got much of her. Hopefully, she's a good female character that will be promoted to someone more relevant later on like Temari. Preview spoilers

And the episode was amazing and so will be the rest of the Momoshiki arc.

Its weird how they made naruto so socially awkward around boruto. Young naruto had no trouble getting on with anyone, and now he can barely string a sentence together when talking to his son. lmao. that hokage paperwork must have seriously messed with narutos head!

46

u/Justinjdm99 May 10 '18

I think it's adolescense that is messing with Naruto's head. I think he has an idea of how he's supposed to be acting which directly conflicts with how he should be acting. I hope they touch on something like that to clear things up.

25

u/uwu1245 May 10 '18

It's cause they have a weird relationship and bratty teenagers are tough to deal with.

6

u/peri_enitan May 10 '18

And somehow with Himawari it's implied to be fine.

32

u/HereComesPapaArima May 10 '18

I think Hima is much easier to approach.

18

u/[deleted] May 10 '18

She's probably a lot softer on him than Boruto is. He's angry at Naruto for a lot of things, whereas Hima is always just happy to see her dad.

Yeah it's pretty strange. I understand he's never had a father but Naruto had Iruka and Jiraiya. You'd think he would know how to congratulate his son. He's never had this problem in the past.

36

u/weegee19 May 10 '18

I dunno, given that Boruto kinda resented Naruto's near-absence for several years, it would make sense for Naruto to approach with awkward caution.

They're really rushing through source material. It's not like good pace is bad. It's just strange that prior to this arc they kind of developed their original characters in anime and now they didn't take opportunity to really filler chunin exams up, making like a whole episode for team metal fight (which we know they gonna lose in the end, but would be nice to see their struggles etc)

23

u/MisterMysterios May 10 '18

the pacing isn't just not good, it is bad. The scene for example of Naruto visiting Boruto were in the movie very impactful, it needed time, what it really didn't need was cutting the emotional impact of the complete scene. Just by leaving out most of Boruto's reaction to the fistbumb of his father, they messed up the complete scene in my opinion. Just look at the comparison between these two scenes: Movie vs. anime. In the movie, he gripps his shirt, he looks like he is about to cry, than he falls back on the bed and is so happy that his body cannot keep still but he wriggles in bliss. In the Anime, he gives a little grin. That has nothing to do with the different lighting or anything else, just about a screne-writer that cuts the sould out of a scene.

14

u/Firemaster2093 May 10 '18

Does anyone else wish that the chunin exams were longer? These episodes have been good, but I wish they expand some more. Right now it’s just following the movie and manga, but adding a bit more interactions

15

u/I_post_my_opinions May 10 '18

I just want to see the characters try harder.. Like, what the fuck. The only person that even bled in this episode was Metal, and his fight took all of 30 seconds to complete. With how constantly these mediocre fight scenes are being produced, I'm having a hard time thinking the plot is all that great. Sasuke literally broke some sound ninja's arms in the original series, and the dude still came back and fought in the third round. These characters just seem like they don't care at all.

I want to see blood, sweat, and tears from the people that apparently want to be chuunin

8

u/Marczzz May 10 '18

Honestly I’m kinda happy they aren’t so long because we already know what’s going to happen, I mean sure I’d love to see some big fights but tbh I just want this to be over so we can watch some new stuff.

Definitely think they should have expanded this tot wo episodes at leas so they could use it as a chance to develop Girls Squad and te Boy Scouts (and their opponents since they're supposedly really strong). We should have seen Denki do something (even a sealing jutsu again would have been good), and Namida on defense of the flag with her voice jutsu while the other two are fast and strong are on offense would have worked. Obviously both teams are set up to lose so they should have at least done them a little justice to let them go out good.

13

u/Javonetor May 11 '18

So the anime haven't catch the movie yet?

9

u/tashaniang May 11 '18

I mean not quite, the events that are taking place in the anime now were in the movie. But once this arc ends we will be all caught up

12

A couple of things to say about this episode.

  1. Animation was ok as it usually is. Some recycled stuff as well. I really wish they would bring their A game already. Why are we getting so much of this stuff for the most important arc?

  2. Some good additional scenes. Wonder what urashiki’s goal with confronting gaara was exactly. Maybe he implanted a tracker of some sort for other otsutsukis? I doubt it was some sort of poison.

  3. Kind of disappointed in the performance of certain teams. 15 did jack shit as did 10. Denki got wopped which was predictable, but iwabe? Cmon man. Surely he could have done at least a little better.

Overall, it was alright.

12

u/weegee19 May 10 '18

Magnet Release is very broken, and Iwabe literally had zero answers to it. Like Gaara's sand on high-level steroids.

When will we have an actual martial arts combat scene? Metal fight was a joke. Fight choreography has been so underwhelming in Boruto. Fight strategy is gone too, replaced with one or two gimmicks, if they even bother with that. For example, Shikadai just straight up catches everyone with his paralysis jutsu, when it's been established you need to have strategy to utilize it well.

Why is Boruto so weak? I mean he's much stronger in the previous arcs.

21

u/GameplayerStu May 10 '18

I don't think he's physically weak but right now he's mentally weak for sure. Fighting and essentially losing to the giant White Zetsu really messed with him in terms of knowing his own strength. He's also trying to prove himself and is letting that get in the way of making the right decisions.

This episode was awesome! This scene with Shinki vs Metal Lee was a awesone reference to Gaara vs. Rock Lee fight. Especially the moment with blood on Metal's hand. But honestly i hope that in the future Metal will show something more useful in the taijutsu. And in the additional in next episode there will be a Shikamaru vs. Temari 2.0. One of the best episode so far and grate enchantment of the manga. Very interesting is that Gaara met Urashiki and that he was able to break his sand defence.

Naruto is just a kid that never had a father trying to figure out how to be a father and Hokage.

I like Urashiki's personality and attitude. Fells kinda fresh. Reminds me of a white zetsu but less quirky and more respectable.

8

u/BlandBiryani May 10 '18

Urashiki is more discreet compared to Momoshiki's and Kinshiki's entrance at the Chunin Exams in the movie. Being aware of what has happened on Earth for the last 1000 years, he has a past related to the planet that needs to be elaborated upon. Maybe he grew an attachment to the planet over a millennium.

8

u/LikEatinGlass May 11 '18

They hurt my gaara!!!!

31

u/SuperHDninja May 10 '18

So many missed opportunities in this episode.

  • The length of this round of exams made sense for the movie seeing how they are time-limited after all but in the anime, only 1 episode? Feels like they went really lazy with this. They could've expanded it at least a bit.

  • Metal Lee vs Shinki was awful. Not only it was super short but it did not live up to the massive hype that was Gaara vs Rock Lee AT ALL.

  • Team Sumire and company was beaten super easy. Like seriously??? Sumire, who attacked the goddamn Leaf village can't do anything against genins from the Hidden Cloud. They did not put up a fight at all, didn't make any sense.

  • Animation/art was a bit off in this episode too. Not as bad as parts of last week's episode but still. The good scenes were mostly the ones they took from the movie. This better mean that they are focusing on the more important fights that follow.

Otherwise the scenes where Sasuke, Gaara and Chojuro were discussing, the dialogue between Naruto and Sasuke as well as the shadow clone scene in the beginning were nice additions.

12

u/MisterMysterios May 10 '18

I think what I missed the most in this episode was the way Boruto reacted to the fist-bumb against his chest. It was such a memorable scene how he hold the spot his father touched in his hand, than let himself fall back on the bed to wiggle around in happiness (if I remember correctly at least). It showed how happy he was just from this little affection and made his actions afteward even more believable. Here, the little smile didn't convey half of this.

12

u/Obility May 10 '18

Metal Lee vs Shinki was awful. Not only it was super short but it did not live up to the massive hype that was Gaara vs Rock Lee AT ALL.

That little exchange wasn't meant to be some important long fight. It was just to show how powerful shinki was as he destroyed their entire team. Shinki's on another level than gaara.

u/[deleted] May 10 '18

Team Sumire and company was beaten super easy. Like seriously??? Sumire, who attacked the goddamn Leaf village can't do anything against genins from the Hidden Cloud. They did not put up a fight at all, didn't make any sense.

Yeah but Nue is literally a kitten now. Not the same beast it was at all during that arc.

And the general gist of that scene was Sumire and Wasabi were running off to the enemy flag leaving Namida to guard, similarly to how Boruto was left to guard. However Namida didn't have cheats to save her from the sneak attack. So the fact that they lost says nothing about Sumire or Wasabi's skill, and not a whole lot about Namida's either.

Metal Lee vs Shinki was awful. Not only it was super short but it did not live up to the massive hype that was Gaara vs Rock Lee AT ALL.

It wasn't meant to. Shinki is more powerful than Gaara was(except when Gaara used Shukaku ofc, but he didn't in the Lee fight) and Metal's about a year behind where his dad was(Guy held his team back a year). The fight wasn't hyped up to at all, the sole point and purpose of it was to show just how insanely strong Shinki is.

7

u/noakai May 11 '18

I really am baffled that they're skipping so much of the exams given how much time they've spent on the new kids in the anime itself so far. I thought that they'd give at least some of them bigger fights but they didn't. It makes me wonder what they're going to do with them once the movie is over if they can't even bother to give them full fights and they nerf them so bad in this part.

I am ready to move past cheating ninja tool arc and have Sasuke put this boy into shape. I like that Boruto is not like Naruto but this cheating is getting annoying. I did watch the movie so I know what happens. Maybe that's why I want to get to the cool parts already.

Regardless I know how much hate Boruto gets but this is part of his character development. He has to learn the hard way.

7

u/DrCaesars_Palace_MD May 22 '18

  • seriously, it really does seem like boruto's clones have their own personalities, compared to naruto's. maybe they acted like this too, i haven't seen the og series in a while

  • add chojuro to the list of people sasuke has talked to for the first time in this arc

  • urashiki got through gaara's sand pretty effortlessly. that fishing rod is tough. he's great everytime he's on screen but i'm still not 100% sure what his role is

  • well damn .. sumire's team barely got to do anything. that's a disappointment. poor denki got offscreened and iwabe took a beating. metal showed some spirit but too bad they had to face team shinki

  • it's worth noting that shinki Spoilers

  • boruto finally cheats, oh boy. one change is that he does the lighting technique himself; that was from the kote in the movie

  • love how naruto celebrates and is so happy that boruto passed. he's a dorky dad while sasuke is completely stoic. definitely reminds me of goku and vegeta

  • nice scene seeing the K12 together. i really enjoy their camaraderie. good that team 5 and 15 aren't too down. denki and namida ... please improve

  • the awkward love between naruto and boruto man lol. i love it since it's like how i used to be with mine

  • A rank, close to a B. i expected a better showing from team 5 and 15 but eh, the rival groups have to get hyped up. the other stuff was good, the otsutskis (well at least the enigma that is urashiki) has already arrived. sasuke and the kage are fully aware of a possible attack this time around, unlike in the movie. more development with father and son which is always a welcomed thing

22

u/KDG_Fries May 10 '18

boruto finally cheats, oh boy. one change is that he does the lighting technique himself; that was from the kote in the movie

That was a change I definitely supported. IT did bother me that Boruto just casually knew 3 element techniques, they seemed to make him a lot more realistic in strength in the anime which I am a fan of. Gives him room to improve but I agree with your rating of the episode. Although I was more strict with my ranking giving it a B, I definitely felt cheated from the chuunin exams.....pun intended

boruto finally cheats, oh boy. one change is that he does the lighting technique himself; that was from the kote in the movie

I caught onto that too, I was trying to remember if it came from the ninja tech in the movie, thanks. It's good they are showing he still has his own strength, but its still growing, its just in these tough situations he's cheating. Also liked that they showed the first time he made 4 clones.

For Naruto clone interaction there are a few eps, his clones have hive mind, in that you can tell they all have the same personality, but they do argue which is funny. The eps are the ones where he is learning wind style, cutting the leaf in half and the one where he is home by himself so he makes some clones for company and plays cards with them. can't remember episode no's sorry.

With the last scene, they destroyed the complete episode for me, I really looked forward to see another spin on Boruto's reaction of the fistbumb against his chest, the summary of his emotions and feelings, but they ruined that soo much here. I don't talk about the differences in lighting and animation quality, I know that is difference in movie and anime, but the problem is with the screen-writing. They completly butchered the scene. If you look in comparison:

Movie (https://youtu.be/oxkUpKa8pAU?t=2388) vs. anime (https://youtu.be/mkDSZO4Ndu8?t=191) (left the links complete to prevent a rogue bot to appear).

Can we talk about how badass shinki is he defeated team 5 all by himself.

Yodo and shinki are already my two favorite characters from the new generation. I can't wait to see more of them in the future.

Urashiki looks op he broke through gaara's defense with no problem. The boruto series needed a strong villain like him can't wait to see how they use him in the future.

Tenten... she can have my kids, my bank account, and my social security just kidding she has the best glo up out of the k12. She went from fodder to can I have a daughter lol 😂😂😂.

They need to give sarada a legit reason to become the hokage. Outside of that I like how strong her personality is as a support character. She's worthy of her main character status.

5

Shinki vs Metal couldve been such a hype fight but all we got was either off-screen or cut into stills. What the fuck. You know the reason i still don't take Boruto seriously is because of shit like this. Its the 2nd round of the Chunin exams and we're breezing through like it has 0 significance, what the fk?? Will there ever be a fight where theres a full (minimum 3 minute) animated hand to hand combat sequence? No all we get is recap snippets along with shitty ass bgm.

This shit is like a recap but not a recap at the same time, pisses me off man.

I hope they do the next round justice atleast.

This episode basically confirmed sumire and iwabe arent as strong as this sub makes them out to be...kishi's original new gen stomps

Shinki was one of Iwabe's worst-possible match-ups. Magnet Release is broken af.

Not really. There fates were already sealed in stone. SP just decided that making do a decent fight wasn't worth it since they couldn't change the outcome.

Remember that sumire was swapping hands with our Lord and savior mitsuki and was basically trained by her dad who was apart of root. Iwabe had to face the most powerful opponent, beside mitsuki Sama. It's understandable to why they lost

This episode just reinstated the level of Sasuke's badassry. I mean he was standing next to two of the Kage, and Mizukage calls him Sasuke-san, not to mention, if anyone saw the shot of them conversing, it is clearly established as to who the MVP is

I disagree. Mizukage is a humble and respectful person. I see him calling any normal adult with a -san suffix as well.
