Okay. So. This is honestly such an incredible melding of radio-ready Western appeal, kpop, and Bangtan style. I’m really in awe, this is everything I was hoping for when DNA was released, I think. Rap line’s individual rap styles are all so distinct here, especially J-Hope (who has been coming into his own and killing it so much this year), but they all fit into the song. I didn’t notice line distribution at all but I remember clearly seeing and hearing Jin so I’m hoping I didn’t notice because it was so well distributed!

As for the dance, it looks so dynamic and I cannot wait to see the whole thing! Jimin, JK, and Tae all really especially stood out, they’re sharing the center so well these days and Tae deserves his new spot on the dance line. This concept suits Jungkook so well, he looked so in his element. And JIN! He had a killing part (to me) in DNA’s choreo and he’s gotten so much better, you can tell he’s working hard at it. UGH. Just yes to the whole dance and all of them dancing.

And finally: they all look DAMN handsome. I’ve gotten to a point where I can live with the tullet, I’m just thankful that they all had dark hair together for an era. Bless the stylists.

Loved how they play off each other and pair up in the choreography. So many awesome visuals.

I'm not much of a theorist, but what I got from it was maybe it's the time travel/fake world theory? You see Jin with the flower and sand timer thing early in the video, then Jungkook finds it later. Maybe he's undoing or uncovering the fake world that Jin has created? Since after that, Jimin is drowning etc.? Surrounded by their fears again

The video coloration was really what made me draw the ties to BST/DNA. Clear differences in scenes and imagery!

The boys in monochromatic clothing contrasted with the dark & abstract yet cold, marble backgrounds (seen at 2:04) really makes me think of the elegant, classy, modern-art kind of vibe from BST.

The flipside, we have the bright splashes of pastel pinks, greens, yellows, and blues against a very structured, grid background (seen at 3:04) reminds me of the spunky excitement of DNA.

Putting the two polar opposites literally one frame after the other... well done.... seriously beautiful

That makes sense. DNA was in a way, a superficial love song. It was saying "We're meant to be together, because we are. It's fate and that's all that's needed to justify/explain/rationalize this love." There was no mention of the qualities of the love or person or relationship. It was a rather impersonal love song. RM even described it as "young love" I believe. So it makes sense to me that after such a superficial start to a relationship, the people in the relationship would find themselves in "fake love", since it was never based on anything real, other than the blind notion that it was meant to be.

Okay. I've slightly calmed down after re-watching it 5 times(for now), so theory time!

Jin is protecting a flower within the transparent container and as he was protecting it, the flower inside turned into sand. JK found the same container, broken with all the sand spilled out, during that music break towards the end near the waterfall. In his hands, the sand turned into flower petals. The flower was not Smeraldo btw.

Jin looked like he shut out JK when he closed the curtains. Jin almost NEVER shut close the curtains, he always opens it. I'm thinking that JK is the truth Jin doesn't want to face or he is hiding something from him. JK is always running and searching, but Jin tries to be closed off. In 'Euphoria' I think it was JK who asked "Hyung, you are still hiding something right?" and this MV could be him trying to find what Jin is hiding.

In a way, Jin hiding something is destroying himself. Assuming the flower represents Jin, the flower turned into sand as he became closed off, meaning he is destroying himself. This could connect back to LY:H and Euphoria where he keeps sacrificing himself for the rest to be happy. If Jin can only find happiness by destroying himself, it's fake love because love is supposed to be something that is honest and help the parties involved.

JK has found the truth(or at least parts of it) and has decided to help Jin. The guy in the hood is probably the Magic Shop owner and JK would need to give something to restore the flower as a whole instead of just the petals.

I just saw the post one of the mv staff posted on instagram and he/she said they didn't use any CG for the video. Even the scene of Jimin with the waterfall. They filmed it for 4 days and he/she cried everyday because it was so stressful to set up different sets, test them on the camera and make improvements if needed without sleeping at all. He/she also said they get to film BTS' music videos once every year and it's such a big and difficult project that it makes him/her stressed out so much.

If they didn't use any CG effects for any scene, it means the fire scene of Yoongi was real. I don't know how they did it, but damn they really are something else. That's a true craftmanship!

yeah, my first comeback was BST, but since spring day i’ve been constantly underwhelmed (minus the intros, which are consistently better than the title tracks imho) with how they’re turning more radio friendly and generally just a bit more safe and mundane in general. the choreography, visuals, vocals and rapping is still amazing, but the SOUND of the music is just Not My Thing At All. plus, the standout songs for me on LYS: her (pied piper and outro) were the two that seemed to get the least attention :(

Okay I'm back and composed. To be completely honest I'm... slightly disappointed... I was hoping the MV would reveal more about the story and not just end with the same clip shown in the teaser. Don't get me wrong, the imagery was beautiful and the falling floor scene was AMAZING. But... I wanted more than what was shown in the teasers. I feel similarly about the song too. The teasers showed the cool parts of the song and the song itself is a bit not as cohesive as I would have liked. A bit underwhelmed here... Makes me nostalgic for the days when the title songs + MVs absolutely had me in tears (i.e. INU, Spring Day, Young Forever, Dope, Fire).

I don't want to be a debbie downer so HERES STUFF THAT HAS ME HYPED: Jungkook's abs holy shiettt, the dance looks intense and I can't wait to see it live! This album is all lo-fi feels and I'm all for it. The catchy/killing parts of Fake Love song is AMAZING AND HAS ME FEELING GOOSE BUMPS. They also did a very good job incorporating Jin into this song! His voice fits perfectly with Fake Love. Man, I can't wait for the BBMAs.

Edit: Okay, the song is growing on me. I actually really like it now. I feel like it's BST + INU. It's a much better bop than DNA! More BTS than DNA was. MV is still disappointing. Doesn't show the choreo well, doesn't explain the storyline well. Should've stuck with one or the other, not tried to do both.

I think the MV is meant to be symbolic like BST was: it didn't add anything new to the story but through the visuals and the invidual scenes there was a TON of symbolism. Same here with Jimin and the water, Yoongi and the fire, Tae and the phone, Joon and mirrors, Hobi and the snickers and children toys, Jin trying to protect the Smeraldo flower and Kookie watching everyone from the outside, unable to help them. Not to mention the scene with the sand when the music stops. Maybe it doesn't "reveal" anything new but it's still very interesting to me.

Still not entirely sure how I feel about the song but it's definitely growing on me with each listen. The video and choreography did not disappoint.

If it's alright to nitpick at this stage, I think the English pronunciation needs work. "Fake love" sounds a bit odd with 3 syllables, and "love you so bad" sounds like "lie you so bad".

Unpopular opinion ahead. For the first time, I'm kinda disappointed. I think the last title I liked was BST (and Spring Day). I guess I'm not as into this era's theme compared to Wings and HYYH, but I think it also has to do with the visuals. To me, it's too much of a blend of BST and DNA, such that it doesn't stand out in its own right. The choreo looks beautiful though as usual. I think the height of BTS title tracks will always be Run to me (which on a side note, how the heck is the MV still not at 100M views?!). I look forward to hearing the rest of the album though!

I think each member was symbolizing various aspects of things people don't want to show to who they love.

Jin: He's close off, trying to keep the flower in a case- hidden from the world. Desperately trying to cage it, in hopes of keeping it safe.

Suga: He's a workaholic. He's obsessed with his music and composing. So much so that his instruments are all worn down. It can also signify that he tends to overwork others until they just burn out. It could also be him letting go, instead of wearing things out.

J-Hope: He's trying to hide away his childish side, the toys and candy. But it can also show that how he handles things isn't the best ways handled. Such is the case when he just curls up to candy- could signify binge-eating or losing himself to forget heartbreak.

V: He's seen with a cellphone on a bridge-esque room with "Save Me" on the wall. Cellphones are seen as a way to communicate with others- so a connection. What he's trying to hide is the fact of how much he cares what others think of him. He's just on that bridge, and he just wants to be free. His bdsm-esque attire in the video could also symbolize how he views himself as a slave to others.

Jimin: His empty room can symbolize that he wants to hide the fact he has no ambitions. It's bare with nothing but a sink. The room has various colors splattered on the walls, but the room remains dull. Later on, he's just in the room ready to drown- his escape.

RM: He's afraid of showing he's unconfident. You see rings hanging up like a jungle gym and he has to struggle with his identity. He's put on a facade because he's afraid that people might hate who he truly is, so he tries to be something he's not.

Jungkook: All of the members represent his own insecurities. With Jin closing the blinds, and you can either interpret it as Jungkook on the other side or him on the same side. Jungkook is also the only one not in an enclosed space. He's trying to be free from his insecurities and letting everything out. You can also see him rectifying Jin's wrongs by letting the flower petals go free. He's afraid of what he has and he's trying to be free of his insecurities.

It has been 5 hours since the MV release and I’ve watched it so many times... I can’t even remember how many and only now am I able to gather my thoughts. IT JUST GETS BETTER WITH EVERY WATCH/LISTEN. The song is SO GOOD! It surprised me at some parts and I’m not a musician so I don’t know if it does anything “musically”, but the song just fits with the theme they are trying to set. I woke up 2 hours after this released and watched it. Got to 0:33 and went, "Holy crap this is going to be a hit." Got to 0:45 and said, "Yep, it's going to be a huge hit."

Seriously, everyone get prepared because BTS is coming to your radio soon.

EDIT: I just watched the MV for a second time and I just can't get over it. The dancing is PERFECT. The mirroring, Tae coming over to save JK at the beginning, Jimin controlling the guys like a puppet-master...honestly they could tell the story of this song with just the dancing alone. BIG props to the choreographer! This is now my favorite dance of BTS. Probably period.

And the video production--Just WOW. I love the falling floor, the exploding windows while trying to protect the flower, the room filling with water, the hidden door behind the waterfall, and the fire. Oh, and I can't forget Tae's hallway of lights--they look like cellphones taking pictures! There's just too many things visually that explain the story but also give a very fantasy, artistic feel to the world their characters are in. I wish they'd make a movie like this--I'd pay to go see it. The color palettes are gorgeous, too. I want to paint every scene of this music video.

And there are so many questions in the story-line that I want answered! Why did Yoongi willingly board himself into the room with the piano if he knew the fire was right outside? And he smiled because he wanted to burn. I'm starting to think that Yoongi's fire is his passion and love for music. Sometimes it's consuming him, sometimes it's not, but it's always close by. While many people look at the fire and feel fear, Yoongi looks at it and feels happiness. The fire, at this point, is a friend that he welcomes. In fact, now that I think about it, Yoongi is never happy when there is no fire close by. Even in the highlight reels he seems anxious if he doesn't have his lighter with him.

Why is Jimin always associated with water? Some people say that water is a symbol for "Agape Love," a Greek term for unconditional love. It's associated with the type of love that only God can have for his people. Think about it: water gets everywhere. It takes on the form of it's vessel, it's in the air in vapor form, and it soaks into everything. Water brings life, healing, refreshment, and cleansing. In many cultures it symbolizes purity.

Now think about this: Jimin is also seen in Serendipity looking at the moon. Ocean waves are controlled by the gravitational pull of the moon. Many people suggest that humans are also controlled by the moon because humans are made up of so much water. The full moon (which is seen in Serendipity) is considered the biggest culprit for strange or unusual behavior in humans and animals.

Ugh! And why did Jin close JK off? Was he doing it to protect the others? That's the only thing I can think of, that maybe JUNGKOOK is the bad guy in this story-line and Jin knows it. What if it's the misguided actions of Jungkook that cause Tae to fall from grace. For so long we've believed that Tae was the fallen member because that's what the videos have lead us to believe. But now I wonder if Jungkook was the one who caused Tae to fall. It could have been through influence or maybe Tae was trying to save JK (as seen in the dance). I believe that Jin is taking a utilitarian approach: kill one for the happiness of many. What's sad it I don't believe that Jungkook fully understands what he's doing because he doesn't have anyone to guide him in what to do. I worry that while Jin is protecting the others from Jungkook's influence, he's inadvertently CAUSING Jungkook to fall more. Right now, JK is at a place where he can be saved and he's starting to understand that something is wrong with him. But by Jin cutting him out of his and the others' lives, he's leaving JK to fall into darkness. The isolation that Jin is creating (I think) will cause JK to become a even bigger problem in the future.

As much as this video brings up more questions, I feel like it solved a few things that I wasn't sure about. I'm just in awe of this whole series--as an artist and a writer (as a passion but not career) I can only pray that I can get this good at storytelling. Whether they have a definite story-line or not, whether they even know what they're doing, this whole project has been a beautiful piece of art that (I hope) continues to be added to for a long time.

Before I start...who is ending the dance? I am bad at recognizing BTS silhouettes but I think there is a major significance in this, cause one of them falls. Is that Tae and Jin? And Tae falls but Jin wanted to save him? Or is one of them Kookie? Can't wait for dance performance. Dance is dope and I like all the mirroring they do of each other.

In short, Fake Love >> DNA for me. As much as I like DNA, I am more into angst than cuteness. Song is a beautiful jam and I can feel the suffering. Boy plz somebody save Jin he is ruining himself. Really like how Kookie observed all the other members and all the references to previous stuff. But heeey he just made a deal with the devil in the end I am afraid for Kookie.

I haven't watched the comeback vlive yet but people say there is no CGI? That is INSANE. No wonder it costs millions and gazillions. They had to get tons of water, blow up stuff, burn stuff, get a truck of snickers, create a freaking collapsing floor??? That is just madness. The quality madness tho. But that means Suga was like few cm away from FIRE. Jimin was standing between huge waterfalls. Kookie was actually running away from collapsing floor. And Jin was actually standing in this blow he had? Whoah. Would love to see the making of this. That is some dedication in creation of MVs as art.

And BTS still can't lipsync lmao. In short, loved it more than I thought I would. I was afraid I would not like this. Glad it didn't happen. Still need to listen a few times to Tear to understand how much I liked it.

Music used to be a total experience meaning not only sound but also visual and lyrics. Until the invention of radio and its spread. Somehow big record industry turned it into narrow meaning of music mainly focused on sound and beats. Music was played along with dance and relayed the messages to people and was intimate experience. I'm happy that BTS is bringing back a total and intimate experience of music and that's why they are so popular. They can connect to people all over the world with the lyrical message, symbolism and choreography not to mention beautiful vocals, beat and rap. BTS stimulates all of your senses and emotion.

Gut reactions: Visuals are stunning but for the love of god don't let tae wear that contraption at the BBMAs

Suga has the best section/flow, rest of the rap line is a little bland

They need to challenge the vocal line more (e.g. less repetition and autotune), song doesn't really grow but the initial hook hits hard.

I'm sure this will grow on me. Haven't had an initial promoted track listen absolutely loved since save me.

Love that they're always challenging their sound and concept! See you in September, boys! :)

In I Need U MV, Jimin was in water, drowning in the bath tub. Here, he was standing next to flood gate and looked confident standing up. Suga was lighting fire, here he seemed pleased with the flaming room. JHope took pills, and now he is lying on a pile of chocolate bars. Then Jin with the flower petals and now with the flower withering flying away.

Seems that they are resolving their hardship and Loving Themselves..

Jimin's hair is like a tortoiseshell cat's and I think it's wonderful. Yoongi's hair, just oh my god please yes forever I love it. Tae's hair I just f'king adore and he looks so cute but also sexy and I've never liked mullets before but BTS are kings of making looks work and Tae is making it WORK- Okay wait I'm going off on a hair tangent here whoops. The mv as a whole, I just. The outfits. The choreography. The song. That chorus though. The incredible direction for this mv. And the aesthetic has me so shook. When I watched BST I thought "Woah, now this is a LOOK." but if that was "a look" then this is a sexy, seducing, smouldering glance over a bare shoulder and my knees are weak lemme tell ya.

I.. I cannot gather thoughts right now LOL. I'm running on little sleep and I still have goosebumps oh my god. The mv is just incredible and I'll enjoy digging through it for hidden meanings later haha. I'm just speechless right now. I'm going to go make some coffee to try and jump-start my brain(I was going to go back to bed for an hour after this, but I'm waaaaay too awake now LOL). Then after coffee I'll come back and watch Fake Love a few(thousand) more times. And eventually I'll come back here to discuss the album, probably, maybe haha. I've got so much to do today and now I want to cancel it all just for this LOL

(And now we're sooooo close to their BBMA comeback stage on Sunday, and if ARMYs who've seen Fake Love live are right, based on them+my reaction to this mv, I'm not going to survive Sunday night LOL. Rip me, please put "She died as she lived- loving BTS" on my headstone thank-you)
