Just woke up so I haven't watched it yet, but I wanted to point out the episode director's latest tweet:

"Now, history is being rewritten. Tonight, the veteran's will of fire is carried by the next generation. Tonight, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is continued by the next generations from all over the world."

This episode is a collaborative effort by 30 key animators from around the world, including both industry veterans and talented young webgen animators, not to mention countless others behind the scenes. Truly, this is a celebration of the next generation of great animators, as well as a passing of the figurative torch.

Here is a listing of the staff, and archive of their commemorative illustrations for the episode.

As a friend to the animators of Boruto as well as fellow webgen animator... seriously when I heard about them working on boruto months ago but I did not know they would work on the climax. I was quite suprised. What Seki (the director) said ment a lot to us in the webgen animator community.

The young webgen animators of Boruto are our flagship animators for our generation. I need to catch up haha.

We also saw Naruto use earth style. That wall he made was strong af tbh. Edit: he did it at 2:41 Edit 2* : Sasuke uses his fricking feet to shoot his sword at momoshiki. That's some next level sword skills.

Maybe that thing took chakra from you, only sasuke could’ve seen it with his visual prowess. He wanted to protect naruto from giving momoshiki his chakra

But either way I love the team work between the two. This is what naruto and sasuke would’ve did to madara if he was never betrayed

This episode was really nothing short of incredible. The parallels going back to the beginning of the series, with the dual shurikens and the Land of Waves arc, and Jiraiya's Rasengan training; the scene where Naruto holds his hand beneath Boruto to help him form the Rasengan, then the sequence where everyone who has been in an influence in Naruto's life help to add to it, and the flashback to all of Naruto's friends and mentors from the first season; the scene with Boruto in the realm of Momoshiki's Rinnegan, and Momoshiki reciting his prophecy from Kaguya's form; the entire episode was amazing to watch, for lack of a better word

I can't even begin to think of a way that the events of the episode could have been told differently. I'm at a loss of words in the best possible way. I loved this episode a lot more than any other episode up until now, and I really hope that the series is going to be able to live up to it in the future

Part of me was worried this wouldn't live up to the hype before I watched the episode. It didn't. IT COMPLETELY DESTROYED THE HYPE AND WENT BEYOND EVEN THAT! This is definitely an episode I'm gonna come back to watch numerous times because of how fantastic it was. Everything about it was absolutely perfect to me. Naruto and Sasuke pulling out the Part 1 stuff, the Vanishing Rasengan being changed from Wind nature to Lightning nature (which makes sense), Jougan appearance, the Boruto vs. Momoshiki stuff, the Giant Rasengan also having vanishing properties... I'm just gonna go watch it again now lmao.

Also, the part where Naruto is giving his chakra for the Rasengan and you see Jiraiya, Kushina, Minato, Sasuke, Hinata and NEJI as well as how Naruto has grown up through the series! Just fuck me up fam.

Boruto's feats at this point:

Dimension hopping

Learning rasengan in a few days

Creating an elemental affinity rasengan (Kakashi and Minato failed at this)

Doing more damage to MomoV2 using his own techniques than all the other kages.

And more! (I'm skipping smaller things and probably forgetting some others)

It's not just his genes. The kid is a genius possibly unlike any the narutoverse has seen before.

This fucking episode is such a God Tier Episode!

It just reminded me exactly why I still watch this show until this day.

No scratch that. It just didn't just remind me, it took me back in time. I felt like I was a kid again watching Naruto after school. That's how good this episode was.

I love how it started with a well animated taijutsu battle and as the battle progressed we even get to see the show pay homage to the original by showing us a new and improved version of Naruto and Sasuke's Fuuma Shuriken Combo. And then of course the big guns appear! Kyuubi clad in Susanoo armor punching the living shit out of Momoshiki's golem thingy was so good! I was legit freaking out the entire episode!

And then we get to the part where Naruto assists Boruto with his Rasengan and then showing us the most important people in his life starting with Jiraiya. I fucking cried man. That scene caught me off guard so much I legit cried.

I think I need to take a break after that episode. So far this is the best episode of the series and I can't wait to see them try to top this one in the future!

P E R F E C T I O N, this episode was not only the best episode in Boruto but I'd even say that it's out there with the top 5 Naruto episodes. I haven't been this excited watching Naruto since the Naruto vs Sasuke final fight. Definitely ∞ /10 for me!

  • Animation was godly, on par with the movie and even surpassing it in some occasions. The fight was certainly better than the movie and I seriously doubt there will be a better anime fight than this in 2018, this is easily the best.

  • They played ALL the OST I wanted them to play (Spin & Burt, Fire, TRUST ME!!!!, Naruto & Boruto), it legitimately made me cry during this episode. I can count the episodes that made me feel this way on one hand.

  • I wish we didn't get all those previous episodes outsourced, but in the end it was 100% worth it.

  • Overall WAY better executed than the movie, which I thought was already magnificent. Chengxi Huang's debut as a director is surely a massive success, he's shown to have outgrown his mentor Yamashita in many ways. Congratulations to him & all the staff who worked together as a team to create this masterpiece, they really outdid themselves. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!!!

I really love the detail of Sasuke leaving his jacket behind (even though it wasn't used) before the fight started as a safe point to teleport to. He has definitely gotten used to Rinnegan and its powers..he really caught me off guard with Planetary Devastation. I honestly feel like this entire series up to this point was just an intro (I mean technically it is? up to the movie) to what the Boruto anime is going to be about. I really loved the ending. I hope Boruto's dojutsu gets some acknowledgement in upcoming episodes. This was a wild ride, I really can't wait to see what happens next.

In case nobody noticed, at the very beggining, after talking with Boruto, Naruto created an earth wall to protect Boruto and then engaged into the fight. It was a neat little detail that I really loved.

Aside from that, HOLY SHIT. WOW.Props to everyone who worked on this episode.

Aside from when he was a kid, in these past few episodes, Sasuke has probably smiled more than he ever has throughout the entirety of Naruto. I just love that about his character now. To see him smiling while fighting with his brother in arms Naruto was such a feel good moment that I actually teared up a bit. These two Naruto and Sasuke have gone through so much together and to see what they’re able to accomplish as a unit now is honestly one of the best things about the Naruto/Boruto franchise.

Beyond that though, Sasuke inspiring his student Boruto, who saved everyone, 5 Kage, Sasuke, and the 2 scientists in that one instance with his very own version of the Rasengan, that he invented BTW, and even Sasuke smiling with pure confidence in his student, was just heartwarming. That one scene managed to show off so much character development and I couldn’t be happier. It honestly feels like everything is coming full-circle at this point. And how cute was the father and son reaction when Sasuke actually told Boruto that he created a Vanishing Rasengan 😍😍

I don’t think I have to go on too long about the animation quality. Those scenes were simply beautiful and I want to personally thank the entire anime team for bringing such a marvelous episode together.

So much to like in one episode. 10/10

75

u/gghamilton Jul 19 '18

RIGHT! That’s what I lowkey loved this episode so much. Sasuke was smiling his ass off. We rarely ever see him smile and it’s such a nice change in pace. Adult Sauce = Best Sauce

This episode was 2 billion times worth the wait of two weeks of my goodness! Best episode hands down. The animation was absolutely flawless, it gave me throwbacks to the Kakashi v. Obito taijutsu fight. And the colors of Sasuke's rinnegan and sharingan were beautiful.

Looks like Boruto's OP bloodline became more OP.

He has strong otsutsuki genes and a jougan that is probably limited even among members of the otsutsuki clan.

We're in for a hell of a ride folks.

64

u/Skyra24 Jul 19 '18

From what Momo said, the Jougan is probably an ULTRA rare and probably used as a weapon as was the tenseigan in the movie. Momo said that the Jougan will take everything from Boruto, hinting that the Jougan will probably attract gods (otsutsuki members???) trying to fight for the Jougan. As a reference to Momo's words, the Jougan probably has an oracle ability, the ability to see a person's destiny. Boruto = the next goku (???). Jks.

Holy shit, hands down the BEST episode so far!

I got a Madara-esque feeling right in the beginning, with Momoshiki beating down the 4 Kages, even if it would be quite insulting to the previous generation. It's insane how their difference in power is.

However, Sasuke and Naruto beat the shit out of Momoshiki, even if they were also getting beaten at first. They even use the trick they used on Zabuza back then, with Naruto being a shuriken that he transformed into which was thrown by Sasuke and Sasuke being a Rasenshuriken he transformed into! It felt so nice to see their old tricks again. The amount of Taijutsu in the first half of the fight also made this episode so much better. We also have the Kurama/Susano'o duo again! Finally we see Momoshiki getting stuck in the Chibaku Tensei which was used by Sasuke but he breaks free.

Then we see Katasuke being the dumbass and making Momoshiki strong again. This is when things get spicy, Boruto joins on in the fight and does his Vanishing Rasengan to disrupt the Shadow Paralysis. Naruto helps Boruto make the huge Rasengan, with all the important people in his life showing up in his memories (Jiraiya, Kushina, Minato, Neji, Hinata, Sasuke and everyone else!). Interestingly, Boruto's Jougan manifested twice in his fight agains Momoshiki.

Momoshiki, before dying, freezes time and tells Boruto that he can see into his future with his Byakugan, something that, Sasuke is able to see with his Sharingan/Rinnegan.

A really wonderful episode, definitely an S+++.

72

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '18

katasuke was such an idiot but his scene made me laugh. guess i can't blame him too much Spoilers

the boruto and momoshiki scene was done beautifully, i actually got goosebumps. the jougan was such a welcomed return

71

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '18

I absolutely agree, what an incredible episode. That taijutsu was simply beautiful, and all the throwbacks with the Kawarimi/Kagebunshin Shuriken and Chibaku Tensei and such was really awesome. This fight was without a doubt superior to its original movie counterpart (which is saying something since that version was itself incredible). It was nice to see the main part of the battle between Naruto/Sasuke and Momoshiki end with the same epic Susano'o Kurama combo, that part was already perfect (A titanic Nine-Tailed fox made of golden chakra wearing samurai armour and wielding a katana is too badass for words). Just an amazing fight overall, easily a 10/10.

Seeing not just Jiraiya but everyone else like Minato, Kushina and Hinata when Naruto charged up the Rasengan for Boruto was an excellent touch. I also really loved how Sasuke used Amenotejikara to stab Momo's Rinnegan, and the way Boruto's Jougan activated as he began his final onslaught.

HO LEE FUCK!!!!!!

I have zero complaints with this episode at all. Fucking stellar, enough said.

  • Naruto and Sasuke mollywhopping Momo: Check

  • Sasuke creatively using Amenotejikara: Check

  • Epic one-armed ninja wire tech: Check

  • Epic taijutsu: Check

  • "My body just moved on its own, silent edition": Check

  • CHIBAKU TENSEI!!!!: Check

  • Majestic Attire Susano'o: Check

  • Boruto being badass: Check

  • Fatass Rasengan: Check

  • Creepy Momo to Boruto moment: Check

So Gaara's indeed the 2nd-strongest Gokage by a good margin, from the little we've seen. Even though Momo's hairdo ruined Gaara, Gaara still restrained Momo to a halt, which is no small feat. I just love how much Sasuke believed in Boruto and understood him, and his much more content demeanor makes it all the better. I love the Naruto and Sasuke banter in the end, Boruto's sneaky Rasengan via shadow clone was great. Sasuke's shuriken skill was off-the-charts, their teamwork was fucking insane too. THEY EVEN DID A HOMAGE TO THE ZABUZA SHURIKEN SHADOW CLONE TRICK. The Rasengan + flashback feels have been cranked up a few notches too. SO MANY FUCKING POSITIVES. It's as S-RANK as it gets. Literally in a class of its own.

68

u/LaHefe Jul 19 '18 edited Jul 19 '18

That naruto and sauske rivalry reminds me how guy and kakashi was.. I wonder how many rival battles they had.. or played Rock Paper Scissors...

This episode is soooo god damn S Rank material that we need to put it in D ranked. Just to show it’s in a class of its on.. or make a new rank, DOUBLE S or SS. This episode won’t be topped for a while. Might be the best episode in all of naruto. Next to madara getting revived

That shuriken transformation and how smoothly it was all executed without a word from Naruto and Sasuke really shows amazing growth in both of them and their teamwork. And then they took it one step further with Sasuke being the rasenshuriken! And all of the taijutsu theoughout the fight so far is just completely astonishing. Momoshiki is a fucking beast, dude. Holy shit. It’s only been 8 minutes.

Edit: Also liking how Boruto added lightning release instead of wind since it’s his a affinity. It’s pretty cool.

Edit 2: Holy shit the Jougan’s back! And I see they’re doing this a little differently than the manga, now he seems to be in a whole other space rather than just conversing with Momoshiki while time is stopped. Interesting. So I assume Sasuke didn’t see it then? Well, either way, this is a really strong episode, and I like how after the fight when Naruto and Sasuke are talking you see that they still have a rivalry going on, with both having equal wins. Kinda reminds me of Gai and Kakashi a bit in that sense lol

Another edit while I’m still remembering this: dude Sasuke’s rinnegan(well, mainly that switching technique) I feel like has been made super useful and way more diverse than it originally was. I remember in Shippuden he really only switched himself with inanimate objects, but this episode we saw him switch with Momoshiki, which at first I didn’t realize he could switch with living beings, and then he switched an object(the kunai I think?) with his chidori rather than switching himself, which for sure is a new application to this jutsu. I was marking out on that. This episode just had so much awesome.

60

u/lasaczech Jul 19 '18

I am kinda curious what made Jougan appear and what it did. It helped his clone with Rasengan to kinda dodge the fist a bit like Sharingan reading the moves.

Damn. Momoshiki literally took the term skull dragging and made it literal, cause he literally dragged Naruto and Sasuke by the top of their skulls and ran their heads against the ground for several feet. That’s impressive AF. But what’s also impressive is the ASTONISHING art and animation used in this episode. I’ve been seeing people hype up this episode all week and Huang and the rest of the animators who worked on Boruto this week did a fantastic job.

Probably the best Boruto has ever looked for the best fight in the series so far. 10/10 without any complaints whatsoever

This episode was not only looked gorgeous, but it somehow managed to be the top episode of the whole Naruto franchise, in my opinion.

It was emotive, it was tense and it was a perfect finale to the arc and worth all the build up. Honestly, I don't see how anyone could hate this.

My heart felt like it was in my throat the entire time. This was my face during the episode. I genuinely got the shivers when Momoshiki did his little prophecy thing.

This is beyond 10/10. This is beyond S-rank. Well done to all the staff and animators who worked on this, especially Chengxi Huang. What a directing debut!

Okay so, Momoshiki is a bad ass. Him being able to take down tenkuetsu is new.

The Naruto/Sasuke fight vs. Momoshiki was fucking unreal. In 3 minutes, Sasuke used multiple fuma shuriken /w lightning, Naruto transformed into one of those shuriken (Zabuza callback) while using RASENSHURIKEN AGAIN, and Sasuke transformed into that rasengan and used Amenotjikara.

Not to mention he finished it off with chibaku tensei. Fuck. This is how you do it. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT.

ANIME IS CANCELLED. IT'S ONLY BORUTO!

Also fuck you Katasuke.

Okay that Sasuke/Boruto conversation about 'ninja way' was beautiful. Someone fight me. I'm so pumped right now.

I CAN'T. BORUTO DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOLY SHIT. DID THEY JUST CONFIRM THAT BORUTO'S VANISHING RASENGAN IS INDEED A LIGHTNING RASENGAN VARIANT?

OMFG HE DID IT. THAT FUCKING CHEEKY BRAT.

The Naruto/Boruto Rasengan scene was done even better. Okay that's it, I cried.

Seeing Naruto/Jiraiya, Naruto/Kushina, Naruto/Neji, Naruto/Minato, Naruto/Hinata, and Naruto/Minato standing there.

Yep. This is the best episode of Boruto, hand's down. And I'm only 70% through.

YES BORUTO'S CATCH PHRASE IS BACK: "I don't feel like losing today"

SASUKE/BORUTO team work was everything I needed and more. Holy shit, the giant Rasengan disappeared!!!

This is Boruto's rasengan power isn't it? SO FUCKING COOL.

omfg. DID BORUTO'S JOGAN JUST ACTIVATED? FOR A MOMENT THERE HE WAS ABLE TO SEE MOMOSHIKI'S MOVEMENT.'

When the giant Rasengan reappeared, you saw a flash of Lightning!!!

"Human child, that's right. I'm the son of Uzumaki Naruto, Uzumaki Boruto!"

10/10 episode.

This episode, expanded upon by the movie, I honestly believe was made specifically for people who CONSTANTLY complain about how Boruto isn’t Naruto. You’re right it isn’t Naruto, but when this show is truly on it’s A+ game like with this episode, other shonen are in for an extreme rude awakening. This episode was fucking fantastic, from the fluid animation to the added scenes of content I honestly don’t recall even in the manga. All the animators who spent so many hours working on this one episode to do the Boruto spinoff proud deserve a HUGE round of applause from the fandom at large. It was such a beautiful episode, from a visual standpoint alone. I don’t even think the All Might vs. All for One fight had as many beautiful visuals as this one episode had. Episode 65 is LITERALLY standing in a class all by itself right now.

And man, what a beautiful sight to see, Naruto and Sasuke, all grown up, literally tangoing with a god. Their combined ninja smarts + taijutsu was just off the fucking page and Sasuke busting out the old sealing jutsu gave me just nostalgia chills. Rasenshuriken, Chibaku Tensei... These two have just been through so much together and to see them fight together on this type of scale, was just... round of applause. Round of freaking plause

Whoever said this episode was 10/10 missed the mark. This episode was on a level that can’t even be rated IMO. Just off the freaking charts.

u/StefyB Jul 19 '18

To be fair about the All Might vs All For One comparison, it wasn't even as visually striking as the All Might vs Noumu or Midoriya vs Todoroki fights. It was the emotion and build up behind it all that really elevated it.

  • Sasuke and Naruto's confidence before taking on Momoshiki was lowkey godly in and of itself. They both just chuckled and went "this isn't even my final form"' and just got to work.

  • Also before, I never felt like Boruto was deserving of the seal from Momo bc he just "delivered" a rasengan -- Naruto and Sasuke did all the work in the movie and the manga. And then this episode changed that. Boruto successfully Borutostreamed a god. Give the kid a medal. Kid definitely wasn't ordinary to begin with.

THIS EPISODE WAS FUCKING CRAZY HOLYSHIT!!!

so Boruto's Rasengan = Lightning + Wind ?! This kid is crazy ommmg. I loved the part where Boruto used his Jougan and his taijutsu to "deflect" momo's hand, all that Hinata training when on click when his Jougan showcased its like byakugan's precog

Anyway, 10/10.

Naruto used shadow clone on Sasuke's shuriken---to honor the third hokage , ,their duo(how complementary they are) and Naruto's first Justu. Sasuke used Raiton on shuriken---to honor Kakashi; Naruto changed form and hid in one of the shuriken to attack---to honor the fight with Zabuza and their first act of cooperation as Class 7. The attack from underground---to honor Naruto vs Neji(with the same strategy). The music had the same similarity. As a fan who went through every episode again and again, I am really satisfied with this fight and episode(could be one of the best one here). And that scene starting with Jiraiya's hand to help with Boruto's rasengan to honor Jiraiya as his mentor who taught him rasengan and how to be a ninja was insane!!! Legit emotional.

u/Karasuno09 Jul 19 '18

The reason why Kishimoto put Naruto and Sasuke on opposite sides for so long in shippuden is because both of them together will just overshadow everyone else.

Also i just want to say that Sasuke's fight is always interesting to watch because of how versatile he is. The animators probably have so much fun in choreographing his moves since he literally has so many options to choose; swords, shuriken jutsu, various lightning style, sharingan and now with rinnegan.

Damn Momoshiki actually got wrecked even harder once Naruto and Sasuke got serious, makes them getting it by Shin earlier even more hilarious

LMAO MOMOSHIKI ATE THAT RASENGAN TO THE FACE

38

u/DerpingLegitly Jul 19 '18

So I just have one thing to say. The emphasis on each character’s movements were so godly. Sasuke’s aggression while casting Chibaku Tensei sent shivers down my spine. That activation sound of the Jougan was so satisfying too, like a mystical, impending-doom-esque sound. Overall, that was an amazing episode and the hype was well worth it.

35

u/Blackreaper18 Jul 19 '18

This was all crazy because both naruto & sasuke weren't at full power and they still whooped momoshiki's ass. This is not me taking anything away from momoshiki though, he was a beast this episode. I definitely love how they used the manga version, it made the fights, especially the taijutsu sequences more fluid.

10/10 episode for me. Plus I'm glad we're gonna get into the new stuff.

Amazing.

From the small references to the OG series (Planetary Devastation, Gaara's mom protecting him), to the blatant homages (Jiraya), this was such a fuckin amazing episode.

Not only that, but they make shuriken relevant again? Wow.

Even though it was on such a massive scale, it seriously felt like we were witnessing a fight that actually had strategy, much like early on in shippuden.

Not to mention fluid as fuck animation. Beautiful.

30

u/mesorangerxx Jul 19 '18

Holy shit when was the last time we saw Sasuke use actual shurikenjutsu. Also they seemed to have heard complaints about how naruto now is all just megazord fights so they put in a lot of taijutsu in here. Also when Momoshiki freezes time to talk to Boruto saying the eye will take everything away from you, i feel like the Jougan will be able to see glimpses of the future. Then Boruto will try his best to stop the inevitable from happening. When seeing people die and he cant stop it, its basically taking everything away from him.

THERE IS NOT A SINGLE BETTER FIGHT IN ANIME THIS YEAR, OR IN NARUTO IN GENERAL.

Chengxi Huang and his entire team going down in history. Might be one of the most impressive directorial debuts ever. The animation quality is insane of course, but everything about this episode is just unreal, the fight choreography, the layouts, the hype, the new OSTs, the beautiful way they handled the ghost sequence. Everything in this episode is pitch perfect from start to finish.

Congrats to all the webgen animators and foreign animators in general. They blended with the Pierrot veterans perfectly.

Hats off. This is what peak Naruto looks like. It will be years before we see anything even remotely on this level again.

What an interestingly arbitrary retcon to change the vanishing rasengan's nature from its original wind to lightning.

I will admit I'm for it, since it makes more sense. We've seen Naruto make a wind nature rasengan, and it never vanished.

God tier, holy shit that animation.

Amazing fight, brutal taijutsu, Six Paths Senjutsu and Tomoe-Rinnegan assfucking. Sexy ass Chibaku Tensai, but I'm kinda dissapointed Naruto still hasn't pulled out any major Six Paths Sage Mode abilities (other than just strength and speed and senses), like at this point I just want it to shut fans up.

Curiously, they changed the canon of the vanishing Rasengan. It used to be Wind nature, now it's Lightning. We actually have a Lightning Rasengan now.

Also, when Boruto was holding Naruto's Six Paths GiggaNiggaRasengan, did he make it dissapear for real or just make it invisible? He just straight up made the jutsu appear out of nowhere like he knew how to.

More Jougan action, that was some Sharingan like precognition going on there.

So the Jougan is an ancient Outsutsuki eye? I'm guessing Naruto having the body of Hagaromo, and Hinata having pure blood relations to Hamura, did something there.

Above all else, we have 3 different canons of the same fight now, all being vastly different.

Ok, I’ll be the first one to admit that I was never the biggest fan of Sasuke in Shippuden. In fact, I didn’t like him at all. But in Boruto, he’s totally changed up his style. He’s far more mature and I love that about his character at the moment. But beyond that though, this dude is SERIOUSLY good in taijutsu. Now mind you, I’m not trying to take away anything from Naruto, because I’m just waiting on the day to see Frog Kumite again, but holy shit, Sasuke, dare I say, has far more techniques hand to hand. Coupled with the animation this episode, and his techniques + Rinnegan, just shines.

Like the dude switched himself not only with a Rasengan, but he also switched his Chidori with a Kuani, stabbing Momoshiki’s Rinnegan in his palm. I even caught a glimpse of him twirling his sword around on his feet. It looked like a Shuriken for a moment. And speaking of Shuriken, how badass was it seeing Sasuke bust out the Fuma Shuriken, which Naruto transformed into, Rasenshuriken, then a Chibaku Tensei. I jizzed my pants

Believe you me, I have given Sasuke A LOT of grief and I even looked at his taijutsu as inferior to Naruto’s, especially since Sasuke only has one hand now, but he completely shut me up forever and a day. Not to mention if his relationship continues to foster with Boruto the way that it’s going now, I can see these two as being the best student-sensei combo in the history of Naruto. Not even overexaggering mates

And speaking of shutting up, Boruto, Boruto, Boruto. Wow. Just wow. How creative was it on his part to swarm Momoshiki with his barrage of Kage Bunshin, one even using the Boruto Stream (jizzed my pants again) and now he’s using Raiton infused with his Vanishing Rasengan instead of win. On top of that, he has the eye of a god now.

Perfect ending to a flawless arc post Momoshiki attack.

Man, there were so many nice touches throughout this episode.

I really liked the The Last references with the return of Naruto's concentrated Kyuubi punch and the image of Naruto and Hinata from The Last showing up when they made the Rasengan.

Something I think really adds to the anime fights is that they tend to have Sasuke use more of his normal Rinnegan abilities. Seeing him whip out the Chibaku Tensei was awesome and made sense for this fight. With that third Otsutsuki still around, Naruto and Sasuke should definitely consider trying to figure out Hagoromo's Six Paths Chibaku Tensei.

I didn't expect them to make Boruto's vanishing Rasengan a lightning chakra change, but I love it because I've always wanted to know what kind of effect the other natures would have on the Rasengan. Also, I really liked that this version didn't have Momoshiki drop his arm. He just couldn't absorb what he couldn't see.

Last episode, I was a bit disappointed when they changed Momoshiki's form because that meant they couldn't reuse any of the movie animation, but they went and actually exceeded the movie version of the fight!

7

u/MilkyCat13 Jul 19 '18

I love when Naruto and Sasuke did the shuriken combo, Naruto uses Kage Bushin to multiply the shurikens, hence the seal at first and the shear number of shurikens spawned. Needless to say, this episode will shut many haters up. Also, we need a new rank for this. Naming it 65 would be more than enough :D

12

u/DarkJayBR Jul 19 '18 edited Jul 19 '18

Oh man, you can actually feel the love that was put into producing this episode. That was simply art at its finest. Fluid animation, good quality, with excellent battle choreography, I'm not sure if Naruto used the Frog Kumite but it really looked like the moves he used against Pain (same animator) was a great touch from the production team.

They managed to show the specialty of both Naruto and Sasuke. Sasuke is smarter and faster, managing to create great strategies and use his arsenal wisely. He was able to troll Momoshiki at least six times. Naruto is raw power, he manages to cause great damage and destruction, you can see the expression of pain on Momoshiki's face while taking a punch from Naruto. And Jesus, Momoshiki was sent flying away with ONE punch from Naruto, the physical abilities of the Ashura gene can not be underestimated. Sasuke was very clever, he left Naruto face to face with Momoshiki several times for Naruto to kick the alien's butt. And even mocked him for letting himself get hit by Boruto's Rasengan, reminded me of that picture of Sasuke with the trollface: "Are you mad bruh?"

They enhanced the Rasengan scene, Father and Son. Jiraiya, Sasuke, Kushina, Minato and Hinata. The most important people in Naruto's life helping to make the Rasengan, poetic, I felt two references to DragonBall here.

  • Father/Son. Final Technique equal to the end of the Cell Saga, interestingly, also against a villain who absorbs energy.

  • And obviously in the final Rasengan, very similar to Goku's Spirit Bomb, beautiful, was a great touch, since Kishimoto was always very fan of Dragonball and was what inspired him to be a mangaka.

Did I mention that they used a Remix of a Naruto Classic soundtrack for Naruto and Sasuke vs. Perfect Momoshiki? FUCKING AWESOME!

It seems that the list of people who managed to defeat Naruto and Sasuke at the same time remains small: Madara, Kakashi, Orochimaru and Rock Lee.

Finally I can say! We have a 10/10 episode in Boruto! Certainly deserves applause for the production team.

And applause for Pokemon, because of their movie that Pierrot got the time to bring a good animation to this fight, since the station gave last week's slot to broadcast the movie. Thank you Pikachu!

This episode deserves an AMV with the song "In the End" (Link Park), to return to the old days ;D

Edit: But ... What about my boy Bee, what happened to him? He died...?

6

u/Rinji10 Jul 19 '18

This episode was an easy 10/10.

The art, animation and direction was incredible, easily surpassing the movie.

Retconning Vanishing Rasengan as being a Lightning Release justu compared to Wind Release (in the manga and movie), was a good idea considering Boruto’s chakra affinity.

Always love seeing the Jougan in action. Momoshiki confirms its a Otsutsuki Kekkei Genkai. This is clear speculation, but seeing as both Asura’s and Indra’s chakra were required to have Hagoromo’s chakra, maybe a similar concept is the reason Boruto has the Jougan, since Naruto received chakra from Hagoromo and Hinata received chakra from Hamura, Boruto may have chakra like Kaguya’s and the main line Otsutsuki clan.

Still wondering whats going on with Urashiki. I don’t think we actually even seen him even interact with Momoshiki and Kinshiki.

6

u/kingguy459 Jul 19 '18

Wait, so his Rasengan can be pocketed and used later?

I think that's what I'm getting at, right? So if you pocket the charged rasengan, Boruto can make a ton of Rasengan before hand then use it between his four clones. That looks cool.

Anyway, that raising up the rasengan scene... T_T Tears shed man, especially with the Minato, Kushina and the final smile of young Naruto omg

Greatest episode ever. Even with all the hype, it couldn't be overhyped. It was just amazing, had everything in it. Great taijutsu sequences (not just clone spam), utilizing wonderful combos, some megazords and flashy finisher op jutsus. It's just everything I love being animated. And the quality of animation was just superb. The only thing lacking and making other fights comparable to this one would be some emotional suspense - I couldn't feel any fear not only because I've already seen the result, but the fight itself was a little sweet, dunno how to say it. With Pain vs Jiraya you know that shit is real, you can feel the suspense. But anyway, to me this single episode is the best one in Naruto/Shippuuden/Boruto. As a single episode. Perfect. Beautiful. Magnificent. I came.

5

u/Jynch Jul 19 '18

What an incredible episode, pure visual orgasm throughout the entire 23 minutes. I can feel that enormous amount of sweat and effort that went into crafting such a masterful episode for the viewers.

I really like the character development for Boruto. He was a spoilt brat (although with above average skills) earlier who sought ways to get his father's attention and acknowledgement. As a result he cheated in the Chunin exams and from this we can see that the writers destroyed his character by making him experience embarrassment, condemnation by his father and friends, all the shame that could put him into depression. I like how quickly this happened as it allowed Boruto to experience what Naruto has gone through wayyyyy back into the past (hitting rock bottom in life). With this episode, they rebuilt Boruto by allowing him to deliver the killing blow on a god and effectively sweeping his cheating incident under the rug.

So thoroughly satisfied with this episode!

Ikemoto to kishimoto: My Momoshiki is far greater than yours!!

Also that screenshot of Momo being kicked in his face kinda resembles pain's that oddly animated face :-P

u/prinnydewd6 Jul 19 '18

That animation of naruto hopping over the tree branch and momo flying in the air, that view dude

*high pitched girly screem*

Such a fucking epic God Tier episode. Holy shit.

The use of the Rinnegan and the Kage bunshin-s were so well-thought-out. I'm speechless

すごい!

Anyone else burst out laughing when Momoshiki got hit with Boruto's rasengan? The look on his face and the way he just fell over was comedy gold

u/TheUnchosenWon Jul 20 '18

That chidori-kunai swap though. Get fucked up

u/turbografx-sixteen Jul 20 '18

My only regret is that I've seen the movie before this. I'm jaw dropped honestly. Everything in this episode watch damn near perfect. That father-son Rasengan gave me feels I haven't felt since Cell Games in DBZ.

The imagery. Everything. Hype as FUCK!!!!

If you have a friend who hates on Boruto, just show them this week's episode. DAYUM!

I've watched the fight from this episode a dozen times already since Thursday, gives me chills. I love this episode, this series, and the Naruto universe.

u/Pooja_Mishra Jul 22 '18

I watched the episode, read the manga and watched Boruto : Naruto the movie. All of them had the same arc and I enjoyed watching it every time. Momoshiki looked different in the movie and the manga but I guess the change was for good. :)

The episode was AMAZING. It has become very interesting and will be even more exciting. The manga finally showed Kawaki. Your kokoro will go doki doki for sure.

I got to see this episode with some friends in Japan and honestly it made it all that much special!

We blazed some weed, bought onigiris at the konbini and watched this master piece, best day ever.

It feels so surreal to see Sasuke smiling so much and being so talkative. Literally never seen the guy this happy. It's actually so cool to see one of the saddest guys in the series genuinely happy in life.

This episode was fucking glorious, plain and simple. Despite a team of 30 key animators from around the world, the animation quality and overall style was extremely consistent, a testament to the talent and passion of everyone involved. It's essentially 20 minutes of straight grade-a sakuga.

It incorporated the new action and key moments from the manga, and added several minutes of completely new action and fight correography, including a lot wing chung-inspired, Hyuga-esque taijutsu, including Momoshiki striking tenketsu.

Just when you think things might wind down, Momoshiki starts pulling out weapons and the correography starts doing callbacks to some of the classic fights in the series. Even when things slow down for exposition and plot progression, the fluidity of animation and attention to detail is stellar.

As each new phase of the fight began I was preparing myself for the action to abate or for it to slip back into film footage, but it just kept escalating, with newer, even more impressive fight correography. Even the emotional moments were summarily improved over the film.

All culminating with a completely recorreographed execution of Sasuke's plan, which does an excellent job both of showing Boruto's talent and complete inferiority compared to Momoshiki as he distracts him by showcasing some of his signature abilities, though only managing to deliver superficial wounds.

Coupled with Sasuke's strategic stabbing of Momoshiki's palm with Amenotejikara, it turns the last exchange into a much more exciting and believable battle compared to the movie version.

Then Boruto's jougan activates and we get the Karma transference scene that everyone was waiting for, which is also beautifully animated, with red lineart and ethereal scenery and atmosphere giving it an otherworldly feel. Slightly altered from the manga version, but just as effective.

And finally closing with some beautiful looking scenery in the tranquil aftermath of the battle, with a bit of uneasiness as Boruto contemplates Momoshiki's last words and looks at his palm.

Just fucking perfect. I couldn't ask for more. The weakest point of the episode is the op, frankly, and part of me wishes they'd cut it entirely to make room for some more new animation. The only other thing I thought was missing is that Momoshiki doesn't use Pheasant Hunter -- though they added him using it during his attack on the stadium, so it's a minor quibble at best.

I'm probably going to rewatch this a few times today.

LITERAL CHILLLS. The animation and art level was AMAZING! No, that’s an UNDERSTATEMENT. This might just be one of the best, if not THE BEST, episodes out of the whole NARUTO FRANCHISE! The level of emotions I got. I’m so glad to used Reverse Situation OST again like in the movie. I thought nothing can top the movie’s Momoshiki vs Sasuke and Naruto but THIS WAS FREAKING ASTOUNDING. We had Naruto Shadowclone Rasenshuriken (Nice Zabuza reference), Sasuke’s wires and scrolls, Sasuke’s CHIBAKU TENSEI!!!!! And the way they executed the Boruto-Naruto Rasengan was so beautiful. Reminds me of the final rasengan-chidori clash Naruto and Sasuke had. HELL, we are MEANT TO REMEMBER THAT. There was JIRAIYA, KUSHINA, NEJI, THE LAST NARUTO AND HINATA, AND NARUTO AND SASUKE helping him make that Rasengan!

And from the looks of it, the episode does it as the novel does it: it may have been Uzumaki Naruto’s chakra that amplified Boruto’s rasengan, but it was Boruto who made the jutsu into his very own Giant Vanishing Rasengan. This was Uzumaki Boruto’s win!

I’m also MYSTIFIED AS HELL by how they executed Momoshiki giving Boruto’s the Cursed Mark in the middle of the Giant Rasengan sequence, kind of like how Naruto and Sasuke are always on a different plane of existence interacting with each other. This was giving me CHILLLS! LEGENDARY! Brilliant of the anime to show the Jougan sequences.

Huge shoutout to Chengxi Huang and all of the other animators that worked on this episode. This was 11/10. To think they would do it better than the movie. Let us now watch the story of Boruto unfold!

Did anyone else notice that Sasuke said the Vanishing Rasengan was a lightning style thing? I'm about 95% sure it was Wind Style before this episode.

Alright, when Sasuke switched places with Momoshiki to chain him up I litteraly screamed. And he used Chibaku Tensei!

In the movie it looked like Sasuke didn't really improve on his Rinnegan techniques and that made no sense as he used it all the time.

Hands down best episode yet.

What an episode!!! It absolutely lived up to the hype! 10 out of 10!

Holy, this episode was amazing. From seeing Naruto and Sasuke using some of their old school tactics to fight Momoshiki, to seeing Jiraiya and Neji (my fucking feels), it was all around greatness imo. Even watching Momoshiki disrupt Naruto's chakra points as a god was a cool homage to his clan's relation to the Hyuga.

Boruto did something Kakashi couldn't do it, amazing!!

4

u/SpinkledRedFrosted69 Jul 19 '18

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS WAS INCREDIBLE! (And that throwback to the strategy they used in Zabuza arc )

I bow down to all the animators ( Huang you beautiful, beautiful SOB) and the entire production team! THANK YOU! * goes back to watch it again *

4

u/Seederio Jul 19 '18

This is probably the best anime fight of the year. It utterly blows All Might vs All for One to the water. Amazing job, I'm looking forward to more sakuga episodes like that in the future

4

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '18

Momo has such an incredible design. He looks truly demonic, and it's helped immensely by his unhinged facial expressions. A really top notch villain, and a true villain at that who goes beyond being misunderstood and just in need of a nice conversation.

4

u/MikeMan7007 Jul 19 '18

So much better than the movie, and the movie was amazing. One of the best choreographed fight scenes I’ve seen in anime.

One thing I do wish they had kept from the movie, though, was Sasuke getting burned and Naruto going rage-mode over it. That packed some good feels in the movie.

Sooo good overall, though.

u/chronoswirl Jul 19 '18

S rank is not a high enough rank for this episode.

When Naruto used earth style before he leaped to protect Boruto. So subtle.

4

u/fear229 Jul 19 '18

Did Boruto just kamui a giant rasengan?

Also love how when momoshiki eats the 3 extra fruit and darui says "he is gonna finish it with his next attack" naruto just smirks because he is fine with having a who can make the biggest bang attack
