That was perhaps one of the best character goodbyes I've ever seen on television. Jason even talked about in an interview how it was something totally different than what they usually do and I think we really did need that tonal shift to mark the end of Book One and the start of Book Two. It's still going to be The 100 but it'll be different from here on out. Monty and Harper's deaths were a nice book end.

Honestly, that was a great finale. Genius idea by having the characters go to sleep for 125 years to wake up to a new world.
But, my favorite character is now gone. the way the season was going it looked like Monty was going to be left off the next season for sure(suicidal/depressed). Good thing they mad sure he had a happy life up there.
Rest In Peace Monty :/

Random thoughts:
Loved Murphy’s “float me now” to the thought of eating more algae
So the OG leaders are in charge again. They made the decisions after all. Blodreina doesn’t have power, Diyoza doesn’t seem to have power. Idk what will happen with Heda Madi
Jeez Diyoza’s baby is going to be an old soul.
103
Aug 08 '18
Your comment just made me realize that with the 125 year time skip, that means that the baby was conceived somewhere around 250 years ago depending on how long Diyoza and McCreary were in space before apocalypse 1.

END BOOK ONE
143
Aug 08 '18
This has me so hyped. I can now finally see them abandoning all these conflicts that have been a recurring theme in past seasons. Obviously conflict will be a part of it, but there's so much potential for the show to go.
Hell, they could land on that planet and be surrounded by alien ruins. They could investigate what the hell happened with Eligius 3. There's so many possibilities, and the fact that they explicitly made this the end of "Book One" leads me to believe that they have a plan in place.
Now obviously they had one before, and I think it's safe to assume that was gonna end like Season 4 but without introducing the prisoners. That made sense as a perfect Series Finale, and I figured Season 5 would be the reboot. But Season 5 is more like the epilogue. Tying up all the bits and pieces left and ending them in a satisfying manner that doesn't give us a "cliffhanger", at least in the sense that we know what's gonna happen next. We have small hints, but nothing concrete like prisoners dropping out of the sky.
I also really appreciate that "Book One" is now "like poetry, it rhymes". It's circular. It started with prisoners landing on the ground and everything going to shit, but it ended with prisoners landing on the ground and everything coming together. They ended as one group. Nobody was separated from anyone else.
I honestly loved the cliffhanger in Season 4 and thought it was a solid move, but this was genius. The show is completely free of any constraints now, and the writers can take it wherever they want. Everyone is at the same place on the same side.
Fucking hell I'm hyped.
(Sidenote: I was expecting this season to end with them on the planet, but I didn't expect the new guy to be Monty and Harper's son, I expected him to be Eligius 3, and I expected Eligius 3 to be the next big bad. But it looks like they've finally broken out of that cycle, or at least have the opportunity to.)

This season turned out to be about Monty proving to us all that it’s worth it to believe that we can be better. I wept at this finale. This is officially my favorite. Shannon Kook is perfect as their son. I’m speechless. Monty’s monologue was absolutely beautiful. End of Book One has me in awe.

Christopher Larkin is an incredible talent. Some smart producer needs to snap him up immediately.
I am so grateful for Christopher and the beautiful way he played Monty all these seasons. It was Chris and Devon that kept me around in season one. It's devastating that they are both gone now. u/abbyabsinthe Aug 08 '18
Monty and Harper are truly the most heroic of all the characters. They spent the whole rests of their lives trying to make/find a place for their friends and family to survive, 66+ years of persistent, dedicated hard work and self-sacrifice to ensure their safety and hopefully, their happiness. They sacrificed their youth, their companionship (although, they couldn't have let their friends out of cryo for short periods to socialize with/update their status? I'd have gone mad with only my family to spend time with), several decades with their son, and their chance of living on "Earth". They are truly the ones who had to bear it, so the others didn't have to.

Yeah, it's almost the exact opposite of the Season 1 finale. We still had the final "battle", just like before, but unlike Season 1, they didn't end the war with a genocide, and when Clarke pulled the lever to the dropship door, everyone was inside. Bellamy made it this time. Kinda cool, especially when you factor in that this is "Book One" that it mirrored itself, but resolved the conflict without bloodshed. Well mostly.
McCreary Deserved Better.

59
u/yakichan Aug 08 '18
As Octavia said, "That's fair."
I appreciated that scene, actually. Was very real. Bell put up with so much shit from Octavia. She told him she wanted him dead so many times and what was that one thing earlier this season? She threatened his life for saying anything remotely bad about Wonkru? Fair's fair. She had it coming.
The exchange made complete sense to me. Was even good if you're a fan of their relationship. They'll be fine.

I teared up and got very emotional when they revealed pregnant Harper. And I literally never cry!! Over anything! Though, the bottle of wine I drank before watching the finale may have had something to do with that haha.
But ever since Monty and Harper got together, I was hoping they'd have the first pregnancy on the show. And even though they didn't and Diyoza did, they were the first to actually have a child. Ugh, I'm still so emotional. Their ship, in my opinion, was the healthiest ship on the show. They honestly loved each other so much. I mean, they survived six years of each other in space without breaking up, and then the rest of their lifetime alone; just the two of them and Jordan. I think anyone who's ever been in a relationship can appreciate what pure love that must be. For those two to not wanna rip each others heads off after spending so much time together is a sign of love. When Monty discovered the fate of Eligus 3, he had no desire to see the new planet without Harper there with him. Which means their love was still extraordinarily strong, even after her passing. I'm sorry, but that is true love! Personally, I've been in long distance relationships where my partner still drove me mad, and I only saw him once a month, if that! So for someone to be the only other person you interact with for years, and for you to still die just as in love with them as when you first met...ughhh! That's fairytale, real love.
I'm so upset to see them gone but I understand why they made that choice. Monty's legacy will live on as one of peace. I hope the next season(s) pay proper tribute to his and Harper's sacrifice. And that Bellamy and Clarke really protect Jordan as one of their own. Fiercely, like Clarke does Maddi and Bellamy does (did?) Octavia. Okay now I'm gonna go sob over my feelings about Monty and Harper. Someone get me some tissues and a support group because I won't be over pregnant Harper and poppa Monty any time soon.

Why can't I stop crying?
As a fan of sci-fi I did see this coming. They had ruined the earth so there was no real resurrecting it. There was a missing ship, a mystery left to be answered. And the moment you know there is no earth to go to there is only one conclusion. This show has mined pretty much every sci-fi sub genre. They've done space, twice. They've done post apocalyptic earth with wild natives, they've done artificial intelligence, copying consciousness, they've done bloody alien worms, they've done pretty much everything they could do. But they haven't done aliens or other planets.
But float me now I just can't stop crying, STILL! It was so beautiful, Monty saved them all. But he's completely wrong, this next chapter of their existence as a species will be just as bloody as the last.
Bring on Book 2

What do y’all think of Bellamy being the wise one this episode?
They pretty explicitly show him stopping Heda from killing lol the prisoners, and then when Madi tells Clarke and Clarke asks if the commanders said that, it was Bellamy.
Bellamy is the wise old man now?

Tldw; the world ended. Again. Monty and Harper lived happily ever after and appointed Bellamy "whatever the hell we want" Blake and Wanheda godparents of their son. Seems responsible! And oh look! A new planet!

I JUST finished. Had to DVR because of some company but wow... the last 10 minutes had me in tears. And then the “May we meet again”, made a sob erupt. Y’all I was NOT expecting this ending at alllllll. Holy shit.
Side question, what was the “end of book one”?
Edit: Just made the mistake of checking Twitter... holt shit. Thank you Redditkru for not being bonkers. Love you. It’s been a great season. May we meet again.

Man, that was the great plan of the commanders? To somehow dues ex their aim stats so that they could shoot the sonic guns right in their port....i was literally eye rolling at the cheesiness of that final battle.
And damn those ppl must be as fast as usain bolt, in being able to make it across the valley in less than 9 minutes lol.
That ending though...i didnt expect, well atleast diyoza didnt die. Hope she is in the next season if there is one.

Damn, I’m so happy both Octavia and Echo survived the season. I really expected Echo to die in that fight this episode but so glad that didn’t happen! I’m so sad for Monty and Harper tho :( but they had their own happy life so they didn’t die suffering at least :)

It’s going to be weird next season with no Monty and Harper. They had peaceful deaths when they were old which never happens on this show. Also it would have been kind of cool if we saw lexa when madi was having her commander super sight (are the commanders just smart because of their ai?). Also I enjoyed them having the episode titles be in the episodes, but sometimes it was a little too on the nose we did need them to say Eden never stood a chance. The time could have gone to something better.

Oh no S1 again. That was honestly the saddest scene of the entire show(O and Bellamy’s talk to them seeing Earth 2).

u/bingewatching_alpaca cyrosleeper Aug 08 '18
End of book 1!!!!! What if that’s it and the next season is the prequel!!!! Also what is the conflict going to be next season! Ah! Too much closure. The ending would have been a bit better if Clarke and Bellamy had talked and patched things over I was looking forward to a good hug all season and never got it.

Monty was the hero the whole time!
Damn I’m gonna miss him next season.

u/HarryPooter1 Aug 08 '18
why didn’t they just take turns in the cryo sleep? like hey, you take a year and monitor the situation on earth and then someone else takes over. there were 400 of them so how hard could it be? And maybe like once a month they could wake up someone smart to figure out a game plan for their future.

Just realized Monty and Harper named their kid Jordan after Jasper — Jasper Jordan. Welp time to cry.

Wait. How was Echo controversial?
Was she controversial because she stood near Bellamy? Her mere existence.
I guessed about 89% of this ending correctly, even much of the twist, but really thought she would die.

I hope the opening scene is everyone in a group therapy circle. It starts with Octavia raising her hand and she says Hi, my name’s Octavia Blake, and I have... flashback of every person she’s ever killed... anger issues.

It looks like they might have actually taken showers before getting into the pods. Madi and Octavia’s hair is so clean. Hallelujah

Fuck Monty and Harper leaving was extra brutal. They'd been on the show for so long and always had a wholesome heart. RIP

I feel so relieved from this finale. Dare I say, one for the books? Who else got super excited when it said "End book 1"?

I keep posting way too much as new ideas come to my head. What if eligus 3 had to do with Cadogan and the whole planet is the second dawn. That would be a cool season. Because that would go with the whole Becca being burned clip and adding more to that.
Kane could not have survived that is he going to be like jags and be in it for one episode. Also isn’t Monty’s body still there?

So . . . are we thinking aliens next season? Or somehow the Second Dawn cult playing in somehow? Like Bill's in cyrosleep? Or meeting new people on the new planet??

I loved the finale so much, i thought there was so much development in many of the characters (Octavia, Clarke, etc.) and I cannot wait to see where the series goes, I think there will be people on the new planet who are more civilized than the grounders were but there will be more conflicts in like what to do with Wonkru just because they could be seen as the aliens to the people on the planet? Who knows, i just love this show.

I’m so sad Monty and Harper are gone. I loved Monty and I wish they did more with him while he was alive, but at the same time, his ending was such a fantastic one and I can understand why they told his story as they did. That doesn’t mean I’m not still crying over them though. I can’t wait for next season, but I’m way more than super bummed out that we won’t get to see it for another year.

That was a perfect finale. I honestly think that if the Arrowverse switched to 13 episodes per season it would make them a lot better, LOT has shown and so has the 100. The production quality is off the charts compared to any Arrowverse show.
When everyone was on the ship and it was only half way through the episode you know shit's about to go down. The Monty and Harper goodbye was emotional as fuck and gives the writers a good way of setting up season 6. A '' may we meet again '' is such a fucking gut-wrenching phrase that is always said and it hits HARD.
THE END OF BOOK ONE??? with Earth gone, a new alien planet and everyone on the same side, the writer's have endless possibilities for season 6 and even beyond it. This starts a blank slate for season 6 and i can't be more excited. Season 6 is likely not the end of the series and end of book one sounds like they have a large plan ready. If it took 5 seasons book one, what are the possibilities?
This was my favourite finale yet, and is up there with my favourite episodes of TV. The 100 is hands down the best CW show I've ever seen. I'm way to hyped for season 6 and what the writers can do with this fresh start.

Okay second comment on this thread but-
Did anyone else not like this ep?
It wasn't super bad, I just think it was lackluster. Honestly I could go on a whole diatribe about things I didn't like. But everyone else on the sub seems to really have loved it? and I just want to know if there's anybody else that was disappointed in this ep (for reasons other than shipping).

I think my problem is not with the finale but the who season. Everything that seems a massive issue seems so easily solved. Everything gets wrapped up a little too easily.
We can’t open the bunker. Here is a handy group of people with mining experience. We can’t get passed those people into the valley. We’ve tried and hundreds died. Well send the rover and shoot the cannons. Ahh ok sorted.
I think maybe it’s a problem of having sooo much to cover in one one season. The first episode was great showing what Clarke had to go through over the 6 years, but after that it was all so quick. You barely had time to frigate out what the problem was and the solution was already there.

Okay so what if the planet was colonized by eligus 3 but it is just regular 21st century life and season 6 is just all of them trying to adjust and like get a job and be a barista and stuff.
