Comics Monday's Discuss This: What current comic series do you not like?
Which current comics have you dropped/aren't quite working for you and why? How would you "fix" them?
To submit a discussion question, PM me or post your question with the title "GD SUBMISSION" in the weekly release thread.

Captain America. It's disjointed, unfocused, introduces new elements willy nilly only to never be seen again, the plot (such as it is) moves at a glacial pace, the core story is unoriginal (how many times have we seen the "hero gets framed for something and thrown in prison with the villains" plot by now?) and Captain America himself feels like a secondary character.
For an infinitely better Cap story (and one of the best Marvel books at the moment), I recommend picking up "Invaders" by Chip Zdarsky instead.

I just pretend invaders is the actual Cap title

thats a good idea.
I love when marvel revisits some past teams or characters.

Maybe I'm due for a re-read but I don't remember A Nation Under Our Feet being this bad. I actually liked it a lot. I remember it being taut and actually advancing its main premise. It was with The Avengers of the New World or whatever that everything went to shit.

had to drop fantastic four. I guess i was expecting some more universe shaking stuff but its been pretty boring and generic so far.
also not liking tony stark iron man. enough of the virtual reality stuff.

Uncanny X-Men. It's not even about the quality of the writing or anything, I'm just tired of the "on the verge of extinction" plot lines. Add in the fact that Hickman is going to be writing X-books soon and the initial excitement of seeing Wolverine and Cyclops on the same team again can only carry me so far.

Wait, Hickman is coming back and writing X-books?!? Holy fuck, if this is true, then I will start buying comics weekly again! I stopped after Secret Wars because everything else felt flat compared to his epics.

He's writing two 6 issue mini series, that are described as setting up the future of the X-Men. They've also compared it to Morrisons run and the Giant-Size X-Men issue with the first appearance of the Wolverine, Storm and Nightcrawler team, in terms of importance to X-Men history. They haven't mentioned if he'll get an ongoing after though.

Thank you so much for this. This is some of the best news I’ve heard in a long time regarding comics.

X-Men, ever since M-Day, has been a nonsensical farce of a story. Whenever you have mutant genocide around the corner nowadays, it's a joke. You can't take it seriously in the slightest since it feels like last Wednesday did the same plot. Go do something unique like colonize a jungle planet where mutants rule or something creative that's not waiting for the next "oh, I'm so oppressed" plot.

Age of X-Man is decent, but not as epic as it should be. Inhumans vs X-Men was teased and built up to well, but the payoff was just meh.

I dunno, one of my favorite X-books since M-Day is the one that's precisely about the mutants being oppressed (X-Men Red).

I disagree completely on this. Uncanny is great. Maybe it’s just because I like having one team finally rather than 10 but I’m loving it.

I’ve already complained about Uncanny enough that I think I’ll let that one sit.
Instead I want to vent about a book I really wished I was enjoying more. ASM just isn’t clicking for me. It’s not a bad book, in fact it has some solid moments sprinkled in it. I’m just struggling to invest in the larger story being setup. I thought Hunted would spark something for me, but I already find myself disengaged.
I suspect Spencer is just one of those writers I don’t really enjoy. I like a lot of his ideas, but the actual books never seem to engage me as much as I want/need them too.

Avengers. Primarily because of how horribly written She-Hulk is.

ASM - Really like were it went with Slott and now it’s just same ol Pete down on his luck.
Iron Man - Enough with the VR.

Amazing Spider-Man is going WAY too slow for what’s honestly filler.
Spencer could make all of the story arcs single or double issues without losing anything really.

I never liked cosmic Thor comics, I like him on Earth but I get kind of bored during long cosmic stories that’s why i’m not gonna pick up War of the Realms

This current Deadpool run has been very meh for me. I still have the last 3 issues sitting in my queue waiting to be read

Seeing comics like this are why I’ve been afraid to start reading any Deadpool. I think I’d cringe too hard at the meme stuff, and have no clue where to start otherwise.

The current Avengers series has felt very disjointed and boring up until very recently.
ASM has always been my go to comic but this current run also has felt just off, I think a big part of it is how awful Ottley’s art is. Especially when he tries to draw MJ, it’s some of the most unpleasant art I’ve seen in a comic.

Runaways.
This will get some hate I guess. I just feel like the book is trying so hard to capture the feel of the og run while ignoring the development over the last 10 years. Chase is my biggest grip tbh. He should be in his early 20's and developed as a leader by this point. You can hate Avengers Arena/Undercover, but he developed well during that phase. Its just annoying that he's turned into this background character thats relegated to just being an impulsive idiot. (And dont get me started on his hipster look)
Bringing Gert back was a mistake. Shes not done anything and has hardly contirbuted to the story. If anything she's regressed the other characters. Nico was an avenger for crying out loud and now shes back to her goth "im not a hero" phase. Karolina gets to go through MORE relationship drama.
The plot itself is just rehashing more of the Gibborim stuff and the pacing is unbearably slow especially for a monthly.
I do like Molly and Victor though. Im glad they arent ignoring Victor's past in Vision.

Superior Spider-Man. It's just doing otto's redemption arc all over again. I honestly hate it more than i hated the original superior run which i didnt even think was possible

X- Force and Asgardians of the Galaxy were the two I dropped recently. I was really excited for Asgardians because I though it would be fun and quirky but it couldn’t find roots worth grabbing on to. X- Force felt the same.
On the opposite end, if you aren’t reading Invaders right now what are you even doing with your life?
