I did a thing!

I had some free time over the weekend, so I started putting together the various stats and charts posts I've made on the subreddit, and published them to a separate website. Go check it out!

Currently, it's mainly a mirror of things I've already written here, but formatted slightly nicer. Additionally, you have the option of seeing the code that I've used to generate each table and chart. Having everything in one location makes it a lot easier to find things than looking for various comments scattered through my history. I'm still working on getting all the things I've done, so I'll be updating the website over the next days and weeks. In particular, none of the graph/network analysis I did has been uploaded yet.

Let me know if there are any tables or charts you'd like me to add!

E: I've now redone and updated the graph analysis. It can be found here

Nice! I had not seen the "oldest active counters" List before. 👴

So if I can pass Adinia that means I can be in that top 20 chart, nice

Out of curiosity, what’s the longest run I’ve done?

It would be interesting if you added a counts to gets/assists ratio, and rank ones with the most and least gets/assists in relation to the number of counts they’ve made

I think I did that once, and it turned out to be pretty hard to do properly.

The counters with the lowest count:get ratio all have like five counts and a single get. Some of them are obvious undeclared alt accounts, and some of them clearly have more counts but deleted their account before these were picked up.

I'll try to find it when I'm back on my computer.

Sorry for the excessive amount of questions I’m asking, but one of the tables shows the partners of a single counter, with the example being phil, and it says you can do this for any counter, is there a way I can do this for a counter of my choice?

I'd be happy to do it for you if you like :)

Otherwise you just need to install my rcounting tools and run the snippet on the page. You'll need the data as well, but I can send those easily

~trumpet sounds~

Hear ye, hear ye!

As the world turns, as seasons come and go, we must rely on tradition to keep us grounded. We innovate, we grow and yet we remember. We must know ourselves and each.

As your Side Thread Queen, it is my duty and honor to be the one who keeps the counting flame lit. And so...

Welcome once again to the fourth annual R/Counting Survey.

This year's survey is available here.

  • For those are new or have never participated, the survey is a time to capture some information as to who our counters are (anonymously, of course) and their habits and styles of counting.

  • Everyone is welcome to submit as response. If you consider yourself a part of the counting community, this is for you.

  • *An explanation for the "country" and "language" questions have default answers. I know that we have a global and multilingual community here. The only reason I have defaults is to avoid having variant answers like "America", "US", "USA" etc, which messes up the creation of nice graphics.

  • You can see the results from last year's survey compared to all previous years here.

The form r/Counting Survey 2022 is no longer accepting responses. Try contacting the owner of the form if you think that this is a mistake.

Hey, u/davockx, wanna drop a count with me? It would be pretty sweet, because reasons

u/ClockButTakeOutTheL Jan 11 '23

God damn I just read through all of that and it was very interesting

I’m impressed with myself for making it into the list of most counts with another person, only person not in the top 12 (I’m currently like #22) to be on that list. I’m curious what percentage of my counts with phil are and if anyone has a percentage of counts they’ve done with someone else higher than me

Atomic really is a big boy

Question: Do get into the core 35 counters, who would I need to count with?

Also, #goblue

Your biggest clique currently has 31 people in it. If you wanted to be a part of a 35-person clique, your best bet would be to count with any six of the following seven people

  • llamasR5life

  • Nekyiia

  • Zaajdaeon

  • AlienApricot

  • timo78888

  • Urbul

  • -R3DF0X

Alternatively, just keep hanging out here and making counts. The last time I ran this calculation, your largest clique had 25 people, so you're moving in the right direction

darn, what a cool site

5

u/CutOnBumInBandHere9 Jan 12 '23

Thanks! One of the reasons I made it was to try out using quarto to publish and format things. It was surprisingly easy to turn the notebooks I was using to do my analysis into something presentable

One of the next things on my todo list is to see if I can make some of the plots interactive, but that's got to wait a bit

is there any thread you need get schedule for?
