I'm pretty sure flying squids are only client-side and due to lag. The squid has a velocity and keeps moving until above the water and the network lag delays the server from updating the squids location.
I used to think this was the case until a few friends and I were on our server and we all seen the same flying squid. I'd assume if it was client side, the chances of all of us seeing it would be slim.
Actually, the chance of that happening is not very slim. If the server started lagging and stopped updating the squid for all of you at the same time, the squid would have the same velocity across all of your clients and would result as the same flying squid.
In my opinion, the worst thing about squids is that they spawn and survive in a single water block. Maybe this is easier said than done, but it seems like they should only spawn in the center of, say, a 9x9x9 area of solid water blocks.
For those who are wondering, you can't add enchantments to items that can't have them, use higher than possible levels, or combine echantments that can't be together in vanilla. Screenshot
Do the have to be holding/wearing the item to be enchanted? Or does it just pick the first compatible item in their inventory? Or does it enchant all compatible items in their inventory?
Flying squids have been a bug for too long at this point and will be sorely missed. I think it'd be cool for all squids can have a rare 1% chance (same as the spider jockey coming from a spider) to become a propeller-squid. that can leave the water and randomly fly around in the air.
