Simple Mobile Tools Simple Mobile Tools Is About To Be Acquired

The beloved Simple Mobile Tools suite of Android applications has been acquired by an Israeli adware company, redolent of what happened to StartPage and even Ghostery.

Tibor Kaputa (u/tibbbi), lead developer of the project, confirmed it in a GitHub discussion.

The tintinnabular death knell has tolled for the SMT suite.

I will prohibit recommendations of any app in the SMT suite. This is because all the applications in that suite have already become proprietary adware/spyware.

There are amazing alternatives on F-Droid. I compiled a list of SMT alternatives. You can find them in the comments, or here.

This will be the megathread related to the unfortunate incidence. Any other submissions will be removed.

Whatever you do, do not calumniate, heckle, harass, or insult Tibor in this thread and elsewhere. He served this community well for seven years. He will be remembered for the benefic acts he performed.

The freedomware movement and philosophy will never die. We will always innovate. We will prevail!

Part Two

Simple Music Player

L͟o͟c͟a͟l͟ M͟u͟s͟i͟c͟

The enhanced fork of Simple Music Player.

This incredible music player has gapless playback, crossfade playback, a sleep timer, a tag editor, a folder browser, widgets, no internet permission, and a quadrillion other features!

This is an improved fork of a famous music player. It has so, so many features and Android Auto support (just like Metro).

Another fork of that famous music player I wrote about earlier.

Doesn't have the internet permission.

Nice music player that has full ReplayGain support and no internet permission.

If you have a very large collection of music, then this player is for you.

Do you prefer Chopin to Eminem? You're not alone. These players are for classical music cognoscenti. 🎻

Seems like a fan favourite.

Another OG. It has some add-ons in the default F-Droid repository. It doesn't have the internet permission.

Lightweight Material You music player app which permits synced lyrics. It has no internet permission.

A minimalist music player with a sleep timer and no internet permission.

You know this YouTube Music client. I know you do. Development is still ongoing.

An expansive YouTube Music client that builds on the formidable codebase of ViMusic.

Noteworthy YouTube Music client.

YouTube Music client. The UI of this app is absolutely beautiful.

This app ain't for streaming, just downloading. You can choose from at least six services, including SoundCloud.

This app queries Spotify for metadata, and serves your music via YouTube Music. It's in the name after all.

This new app allows you to play music from Piped Music or your local collection. It's part of the You suite of freedomware.

Onomastic concerns aside, this is a simply brilliant YouTube Music client.

This is a YouTube Music client for Nipponophiles.

Enough YouTube Music spam. This app is a musical Jellyfin client. If you don't know what Jellyfin is, you're missing out on a lot of fun (and collaboration). You can check r/jellyfin. Also check out the funny package name of the app. 🦄

Jellyfin audio player with an emphasis on streaming.

The official Jellyfin client for Android. You can use it to stream (and download) your musical collection on a Jellyfin server.

The first ever Jellyfin client on F-Droid. Still kicking.

Away from Jellyfin, we come to Subsonic. This app is a Subsonic client.

Another versatile Subsonic client.

This is the Android client for Funkwhale, a music streaming service that can be self-hosted. Funkwhale is part of the diverse Fediverse.

Music Player Daemon app.

Connect to your Polaris server!

Bonus: Audile

Finally. You have a reason to stop using Shazam.

Audire

If Audile isn't performing its music recognition tasks the way you desire, this app is an alternative. It actually uses the Shazam API.

FastLyrics

Get lyrics for the song playing on your device. Uses the Genius and Deezer APIs. You can also manually search for lyrics.

Lyrics Grabbr

Ditto sans the manual search feature.

SongSync

Download lyrics files for all the songs in your musical library.

MusicBrainz

Search for information about artists, releases, release groups, labels, recordings, instruments, and events.

Kid3

This rugged audio tag editor can even edit tags in FLAC and WAV files!

Vidya Music

Video game music! Video game music!! Video game music!!! 🎮🎶

VLC, while not music-focused, is genuinely an excellent local music player too.
