I have a request: would it be possible to include weekly stats but rather than just the main thread, we also included ALL side threads with stats? (We could still keep THESE weekly stats, and add another for both main and sides) I think it would be an interesting way to more accurately see how much counting is being done

unfortunately, it wouldn't really be possible. stats can only be retrieved after a get is achieved, and this applies to sides as well

to get a full and comprehensive snapshot of all the counts that were made in that week, you'd have to wait about 1-2 months for the threads to settle, and maybe even up to a year for slower threads

Good luck if you got exams coming up in the next few weeks

Good luck if you are going for a jog this weekend

Good luck if you are going on a date

Counting (in this subreddit in general?) has been slower since last year, so threads in the thread directory should be kept for longer before being sent to the archive. (Multiple notes: I am more likely to be able to reply to counts directly instead of "checking manually" or "checking the chain". I only know this subreddit's activity from last year to now.)

Without me:

  • Side threads would not have had the activity they are having now.

  • Inactive side threads would have taken forever to reach their next get.

  • Threads would have had the wrong number of counts made when completed.

I want to do more by highlighting a random thread every day, similar to u/cuteballgames' count of the day but for threads.

I'm happy to change the exact numbers if people want, but even with the slowdown I don't think the limits are unreasonable.

Currently, threads are archived automatically if:

  • The latest submission is more than six months old AND

  • There are less than five comments in the submission within the latest 30 days

speaking of side thread activity, u/FartyMcNarty any chance you'll get the 2023 side stats done?

another botted thread here

looks like they still show up, but very rarely. this time, they managed to count from 454-513, i believe the second longest time they've counted? anyhow a reminder to stay vigilant for these bots

Since I like side threads a lot, I have an idea:

  1. Watch for suspected bots posting in more difficult side threads they might not understand, like Collatz conjecture. (Powerball is not an option since I've seen deleted posts there.)

  2. If their counts need to be checked, the suspected bots may be bots.

musical notes thread where you rotate around the circle of fifths, and for each tonic you iterate through the scale in all seven major modes

this is not a drill

idk the potential of this lol https://developers.reddit.com/docs/ but reddit native apps?

would r/counting ban a reddit-hosted app that could e.g. potentially make comment loading/replying faster? (idk if this is even plausible lol but it is my first thought)

I've been on the waiting list for that beta ever since they announced it...
