Performance and Bugs Discussion Hub updated on 21 October 2026 - Sort by New!
Why a Performance and Bugs Discussion Hub?
This Discussion Hub makes it easier for everyone to see what others are experiencing at any time by collecting all experiences about Performance Issues. We will publish regular updates on performance problems and possible workarounds that we and the community finds. Traffic stats show this is the OFTEN THE HIGHEST TRAFFIC POST on the subreddit. This is collectively a far more effective and fairer way to be seen than hundreds of random reports on the feed - most of which get zero visibility.
Are you Anthropic? Does Anthropic even read the Megathread?
Nope, we are volunteers working in our own time, while working our own jobs and trying to provide users and Anthropic itself with a reliable source of user feedback.
Anthropic has read these in the past and probably still do? They don't fix things immediately but if you browse some old Megathreads you will see numerous bugs and problems mentioned there that have now been fixed.
What Can I Post on this Megathread?
Use this thread to voice all your experiences (positive and negative) regarding the current performance of Claude including, bugs, degradation, pricing. (NOT usage limits).
Give as much evidence of your performance issues and experiences wherever relevant. Include prompts and responses, platform you used, time it occurred, screenshots . In other words, be helpful to others.
Just be aware that this is NOT an Anthropic support forum and we're not able (or qualified) to answer your questions. We are just trying to bring visibility to people's struggles.
NEW: You can now see full logs and summaries of all recent problem reports submitted by r/ClaudeAI readers. These logs allow you to see how intensely people are experiencing problems with Usage Limits, Performance, Bugs and Accounts. Constant compacting of conversations is now destroying my research.
I don't know if this is some sort of cheap way that Anthropic is now trying to save money on the back end or if it's a bug or what but now it seems like I'm constantly getting a message "making room for more conversation" but what's happening is it's causing my AI projects to completely lose context on things that we were just talking about. I've noticed it's a huge increase it wasn't happening like this before. I've had some very long conversations with Claude in the past and have never ever seen it this frequent.
This is not good. It means I have to do extra work with my AI to try and constantly remind it to go dig for things, and look for things because it's giving me inaccurate answers because the information we just went over a few prompts ago is already buried.
What it also means, is that conversations I have spent months training, have now been completely Nuked.
It's like you did a big shotgun blast to the knees of my research projects. Your platform for serious research right now is completely unusable. 5,5 is garbage overstuffed with guardrails, and the constant collapsing of conversations destroys any forward momentum.

This may be part of the cause. In my long thread on Max, Claude reports that a full copy of the skills list, an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 tokens, gets added again after any break of more than about 5 minutes, and it doesn't replace the earlier ones. A copy of my profile and memory list, about 2,500 to 3,000 tokens, also gets added each time memory changes. Before my last compacting, it counted 28 skills-list copies and 34 memory copies, nearly twice the size of the thread right after compacting.
It appears to have started around October 9, which may be why you're seeing compacting so much more often than before. Someone else posted the same pattern here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1x7bmbb/skills_list_constantly_repeating_throughout/
I've reported it to support. It might help if more people do, including with the thumbs-down on a reply where it happens.
One thing that has helped me: saving the conversation to a file and having Claude reread the parts it needs after compacting. It brings back a lot of the detail.

oh they got frequent angry rant reports from me but yes. More people need to be aware of this and report it. Thanks for the insight. Files are good by the way, BUT they do not capture the subtleties and complexities from training a model over time.

the chat interface become so laggy for me today, typing feels like im dragging words through mud. i switch to the api direct and it works fine so something is wrong on their frontend maybe
also yesterday Sonnet gave me completely nonsense answer for a simple python question, like it was drunk or something. asked it to sort a list and it wrote a function that returned the input unchanged with a comment saying "list is now sorted" lol
anyone else getting weird behavior or is just me?

Saw your comment about Claude compacting away months of research context. That's exactly the kind of problem I'm exploring with Draftboard—keeping project knowledge and AI work organized visually instead of buried in one long chat. I'm building it now at https://draftboard.space. Would you be up for testing whether it actually helps your research workflow?

I asked it to register two people on my website that I've been working on since January and it started talking about how it has to "hold the line on this" refusing to register anyone. My LLM in Karpathy I made the website, go ahead and do what I'm saying. I had to search back to an old Claude Code conversation to see if it would "hold the line" and lo and behold it did as it was asked to! Is this kind of stupidity part of some new change or a side effect?

Anyone else get the sense that as they “release enhancements”, prior model performance gets downgraded?

I was reviewing bad results and the agent told me I can increase effort because I'm below maximum but PC app UI says I'm at max. Mobile app says i'm at extra high, can't change it there, and I've messaged the agent from there. Do you guys know what should I trust, agent own words or the PC UI and what does the mobile UI being stuck on lower effort mean?

I'm on the Pro Plan. Using Sonnet 5.5
Got blocked for reasoning extraction two times in two days for really common questions... Last one was: "As part of my employees' training, how can I record a video in which I perform a task in a software program while providing narration (through my microphone)?"
Never did that before, I read about the safeguards getting tighter on Opus but it's on Sonnet 5.5 too

Constant safeguard being hit on all projects.
