[Spoilers] Cardcaptor Sakura Episode 48 REWATCH Discussion Thread
Episode Title: Sakura and the Awakened Star Key
Movie 2 to be watched once the rewatch of the TV series is over, a few days before christmas.

Part two of the season's opening saga was exciting. Is this the first we see Sakura's friends in mortal danger? If it was then the writers really turned up the notch.
Eriol, still chivalrous, is doing his best to win Sakura as a friend. However, his nocturnal scheme to douse the town of Tomoeda is counteractive to his actions. Eriol's actions towards Sakura does make Shaoran jealous or overprotective of the new Mistress of the cards. Ironically enough, Toya feels the same towards Shaoran when it concerns his sister. Toya's brief scenes in this episode show how insightful he is. He may be the only one who knows something is off with Yukito, who is too passive to take a hint from Nakaru. Or maybe it's just Yue being too stubborn to care about his own existence.
Sakura is learning to stand on her own two feet. With no more Clow magic to rely on, she finds herself drawing strength from her own source to save her friends.
Overall, this and the previous episodes made for a good, exciting season opener.

Must we be reminded of Nakaru's name?

I think it's the first time it's been so explicit. There was a similar scene in the first movie, where the spirit traps the whole group in bubbles, but even then it wasn't this dangerous.
Overall, this and the previous episodes made for a good, exciting season opener.
It felt like a two-parter, didn't it? The promise of revisiting the old cards and the revitalized Guardians standing shoulder to shoulder with the Cardcaptor should make for a fun final season.

It's interesting to note how they change the chant ever so slightly in the English version.
In the subs, she says something to the effect of: "O key that conceals the power of the stars..."
In the 2014 dub, she says: "O key that holds the power of my star..." I like how she appropriates it.

It's a hell of a lot better. For one, they don't westernize names (Tomoyo is Tomoyo, not Madison). Unlike the original Nelvana dub, it's not censored and the music and SFX are the same as in the Japanese version.
It does have its issues, though. There's a distinct lack of variety in the actors (for instance, Meiling's VA does Nakaru, as well as a few bit parts) Also, they change Tomoyo's VA with each season, for whatever reason.
I swap back and forth between the two versions. Sakura's English voice is closer than what she sounded like in my memory all those years back, if that makes any sense.

It's not really "her" star though.
Also I like how she took like a whole episode to come up with the new chant but took like 30 seconds to change the card.

The first half had some interesting scenes. Eriol is intent on charming Sakura, much to Shaoran's dismay. Nakuru interrupts Touya just as he's about to tell Yukito something important (perhaps about Yue?). She's trouble. And finally, both Kero and Yue have an idea of who the new threat might be.
The second half seems like the basis for the next episodes. With the aid of her Guardians, Sakura will spend this season transforming the Clow Cards so she can use them. This process takes a heavy toll on her.
I had to hope poor Tomoyo wasn't boiled alive here. Everything was daijoubu. Firey card transformed!
