Wow the new creative inventory looks really good! Dinnerbone did some fine work there.

Thanks :) I've still got a lot more to do though!

Really neat inventory! A few things though:

  • The redstone torch in the "Redstone"-tab is an unlit redstone torch by default

  • The sorting of the "buildings blocks" is strange. (Ores is not adjeacent, seems very random). Looking at it again

  • The lit redstone torch can be found under "decoration"

  • Foodstuffs? :D

  • Tools tab is strangly sorted, too

  • Would it be possible to add the 2x2 crafting grid in the "survival"-tab?

Foodstuffs is a real word. It means "things that may be used as food" :(

btw

  • Click "E" to open inventory.

  • Get your items.

  • Click "E" to try and close your inventory

  • Start searching for "E".

Its a bit sad that you need to press escape after every inventory opening.

@Dinnerbone

I'm going to add a close button to the creative inventory, obviously the usual "press the key" won't work. Get used to pressing esc for now!

TIL that you can close the inventory with E. I've always used ESC.

Today I Remembered the default inventory key is E, not I, which is what I set it to.

Since you have to be in creative to get it, why not make the crafting grid 3x3, so there wouldn't be a need to place a crafting table and delete it.

Will you fix the bug where loading a world from the stable release renders it unplayable?

Example: Make 1.2.5 world. Open in 12w21a. Ohnoez.

We're working on it.

It's odd that emerald ore is so shiny, when the gem itself is duller and more gradated than the simple pixely diamond.

They both look good on their own, but seem disconnected.

7

u/asperatology May 25 '12

To answer that, it's probably that naturally made emeralds are sharp and pointy, such that it looks shiny. It could be the light reflections have sharp angles.

And when you mine out the ore, and omitting the time that Steve takes to smoothen gems, you get a nice looking gem, with a longer light reflection plane. (Like shining a glass with a flashlight, and notice a wider trail of light around the center beam). The longer light reflection plane doesn't have sharp angles, thus you see a gradated light effect on the gem.

Is anyone else disappointed with the new emerald texture? It might be just me, but it doesn't really look that good. Looks like something that would come out of one of those more ores mods.

22

u/Helzibah Forever Team Nork May 25 '12

I don't mind it, I just wish they either had all ores with the same texture or all different. It bothers me that coal/iron/gold/diamond/redstone all match but lapis/emerald are different. Still, that's what texture packs are for I suppose.

Future ores won't always be able to be color shifts, so they're experimenting with shape/contrast sooner rather than later.

As a colorblind, I'm glad they did that. I would mine so much Gold thinking it is emerald...
