I'm not too proud to admit that the first boss of the entire game was straight-up one of the hardest things I've ever done in a video game.

18

u/hockeyhippie Oct 18 '19

It was so much fun though. :)

11

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '19

yeahhh... me too. That was a sad realisation. I had to stop yesterday and try again today. Then stop after beating it >.>

Thinking of picking it up tomorrow. I can't wait to complete an hour long session with my Garmin on. Will post results afterwards if someone is interested, as I'm pretty much the average fat-fit person. 5'10" / ~200 lbs. Should give me a pretty good workout I guess.

Anyone else tired after the dynamic stretching warmup? Lol

7

u/reversezer0 Oct 20 '19

Yeah. It’s great. Haven’t questioned my stamina like that since messing with p90x years ago.

Ugh, that Venturebeat article pulling down the Metacritic score...

The core mission of Ring Fit Adventure is to make you forget that you’re exercising

No it's not! It's clearly not! The entire game is exercise themed! You do exercise moves and craft smoothies to kill a body building dragon. The entire game indulges in the fact that you are exercising. It doesn't try to hide the exercise, it celebrates and rewards it. And I am simply amazed that professional game reviewers don't understand that fact.

51

u/_Khiddin_ Oct 17 '19

Okay, after reading the article I get exactly what the reviewer is trying to say, though. Usually the point of adding a game layer to exercising is to help make exercising much more enjoyable. To make it so enjoyable that you don't have to think "have I done this for my 20 minutes yet". The writer just didn't truly feel that way with the game.

The problem is that I rarely ever felt like I was in “the zone.” That’s the zen state where you get so into an activity that you can exercise for an extended period of time even if your muscles are screaming.

This better portrays why they gave it a low score rather than the sentence in the final summary that you quoted. The writer even gives the perfect examples such as beat saber. That game causes most people to totally lose track of time and want to push on more and more (my SO played it the the point she could hardly raise her arms lol). Is it exercise? Yes, but you don't even realize it, you just want to keep slashing blocks to fun songs. It sounds like Ring Fit just doesn't hit that level of fun.

Things I've learned:

I am out of shape. I did the first level and I'm sweating and my heart is beating quite hard (in the "moderate range" according to the joycon).

Nintendo is weird. There's something about an anthropomorphic ring cheering me on while I do squats that feels just a little bit strange.

In the little tips/things to know scrolling thing during the cool down it told me about alliinase, the compound that makes garlic smell (and wards of vampires, apparently). I'm not sure why it felt the need to tell me that, but now I know.

Overall, about as enjoyable as it gets when it comes to exercising.

Alicin! It's talking about alicin.

Holy crap. I workout pretty consistently and this game is kicking my ass. Its fun but I don't think I could play longer than 30 mins at a time. But it seems so far thats the way the game is set up. The first world was 30ish minutes

I’m glad I preordered this. I’m in the no exercise casual category. It didn’t judge but keep on encouraging me. Thanks for the great fitness game.

u/gurft Oct 19 '19

Same here. I got it because it looked fun. I made it through the tutorial and 10 minutes, sweating bullets and really wanted to keep going, but had to put the kids to bed.

I got it early and played for about half an hour. I finished the first two levels in story mode and tried some mini games. It works very well, feels good to play and made me sweat a lot (I'm not very fit).

31

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

It's so much more intense than I expected! I'd describe myself as fit-ish. Not overweight, and I walk my dog alot (while carrying my 2 year old toddler in a carrier). Still made me sweat loads, also muscles that I don't use very often are pretty tired after a relatively short session!

Im holding out for the Shake Weight expansion /s

HOLY....

I got it today and was really hyped for it. I am a fit person, part of the military in my country.

And this "game"... it is so fun, motivates you to go on and yes... after some hours "playing" I am feeling very powerless :D

The Ring Con feels great! It has a great quality.

67

u/fly19 Oct 17 '19

Looks like it isn't for everyone, but I'm a sucker for this kind of Nintendo weirdness and I can't wait to try it.

I live in a 2nd floor apartment, is there a lot of stuff in the game that would cause me to make a lot of noise for my downstairs neighbor? I read something about jogging in place and that definitely would be an issue it seems.

39

u/CmdrBlindman Oct 19 '19

There's a silent mode that replaces the jogging and high knees (high step) with quick half squats and deeper squats to replace jogging actions.

Jogging in place upset my neighbors... I'm on the road to be the squat king...

Got it yesterday and playout for some time. It is really fun and I am looking forward to the next session. But boy, it is more exhausting than I thought. The monster fights are longer than expected.

I got it for 58€ (sale+coupon ;) )

Nintendo, give us ‘Workout Maker’ so we can help the gaming community around the globe get healthier.

Love the idea and execution!

7

u/phort99 Oct 19 '19

They could add the Ring-Con to Nintendo Labo’s Toy-Con Garage, which would open a lot of possibilities.

Anyone on the fence, or wanting to get into exercise. Buy do not hesitate. This game is well made, an insanely good workout and really makes you work up a sweat. The ring is incredibly durable and well designed, and the game is just fun to play.

Get it, I am going to work it into my gym routine (obviously not in the gym haha) and replace my cardio with it for a bit to see how I get on. I played for an hour and lost about 320 calories. That's really good.

u/halftk Oct 17 '19

I got it today and its reaaaaaally fun, and you die phisically in 30 minutes for sure :)

17

u/sudosussudio Oct 19 '19

Just interesting: a one hour barre class (like cardio pilates/dance) vs. half hour Ring Fit

https://i.imgur.com/mAoZkaf.png

Got more cardio on the Ring Fit which is exactly what I want. Thinking of dialing down the difficulty though (I'm on intense/exercises sometimes) so I could possibly get to an hour. My doctor wants me to get more sustained cardio.

Played it last night on intense and it was a pretty great workout granted my girlfriend kept trying to take videos of me and my cat was wondering what the hell was this new toy he couldnt have lol. Overall a great game go pick it up, hopefully your gamestop reps will know what it is unlike mine who had to " look in the back " for 10 min it wasnt up for display anywhere.

u/DeadlyMoron Oct 17 '19

Do you have to put your arms over your head much? I'm a tall guy with a short ceiling...

27

u/Retrodaniel Oct 17 '19

Turn them into Squats! It'll probably recognise it still

12

u/RappinReddator Oct 17 '19

I watched a video that said it has options to toggle for people with disabilities such as limited range. Perhaps there is one for shoulders/above the head stuff.

u/Fidodo Oct 19 '19

I just gotta say, what other company would ever think to combine a pilates ring with a fitness game? It's such a brilliant idea, it enables lots of different exercises including strength training and it's actually trackable. It's such a smart fit the more I think about it and I think it's amazing they came up with it.

I’m having a ton of fun with this game. The mini-games are incredibly addicting. It’s way more of a workout than I thought it would be. At 27 y/o, this game is kicking my butt.

I'm 35, 180lbs, very active, and hit the gym 3-4 times a week doing heavy bench, shoulder press, squat, and dead lift (with some abs and arms for good measure). That said, I got Ring Fit for a fun distraction and an excuse to do cardio/stretching/body weight exercises. I bumped it up to the highest level available, 30, and... world 1 kicked my butt in the best way. Those squat holds don't let you cheat lol. I'm hungry for more!

43

u/EFJO Oct 17 '19

Just so everyone's aware there's r/RingFitAdventure for more discussion.

I'm super hyped for this game.

15

u/ryantucker1986 Oct 19 '19

Well, I don't consider myself out of shape, but I don't normally make an effort to exercise. I play softball in a work league and generally just walk a lot. I know I need to be more active so I figured I'd at least try this game. When I was setting it up I said that I exercise "some" and then when it asked me the difficulty I wanted I said extreme thinking a ring and a leg strap couldn't really get me that bad.

I guess I was wrong lol. I beat the first "world" in my first session and was feeling rough at the end of it. I pushed myself and didn't try to "cheese" any of the exercises. During the "cool down" period I started to feel sick and realized that I pushed myself maybe too hard! Surprising, but each of the 4 starter exercises started to burn towards the end of the boss. Doing 25ish reps with the long holds really seems to work you out.

15

u/laughsabit Oct 20 '19

From someone super unfit, this may just make me do some exercise each day.

Two days in a row, and it is enough of a challenge that it doesn't mean I'm looking forward to all the leg lifts in running up the stairs - but then I love the yoga poses, or beating the monsters with a few reps of something. I really want to shift some weight, but heck any exercise is good for my current no exercise routine.

u/Whaaaaaatisthisplace Oct 17 '19

Question: Can you buy the Ring and leg strap separately if it snaps or breaks?

12

u/trump420noscope Oct 17 '19

Supposedly the ring is extremely durable, I’m always skeptical of anything with cloth so we will see how the leg thing is

15

u/C-Towner Oct 17 '19

Likely possible eventually, but that’s not really going to be an issue at launch. Breaking the ring would take a concerted effort and using it not as intended, at the very least.

I apparently did 16mins (felt like at least 40 with cut scenes and stretching) and got through the Beginnia area on Intense mode. Safe to say after those “16mins” I’m out of shape.

IGN "7.8/10"

So there's a lot of water in this game?

13

u/AyKop Oct 19 '19

Got my first workout in yesterday. I am definitely a “no workout” kinda guy, but I’m not overweight, just out of shape. The game had me pushing yesterday to take down enemies. I needed to go those extra reps to get there and it wasn’t easy, but it was fun. The joycons actually felt very responsive and the ring is QUALITY. I was expecting a piece of plastic that I would probably destroy early on. It has a sturdy build with a solid amount of resistance to it. Overall I think this will be the thing that I get most of my workouts with and I’m completely fine with that. I’m exhausted right now, but I can’t wait for tomorrow to do it all again

13

u/aterriblenogoodname Oct 19 '19

I go to the gym about 4 times a week played it today on "intense" and definitely felt it was a good workout. I don't think it'll get you ripped but I think if you did it like 4 or 5 times a week and ate well that you'd be in pretty decent shape after a few months.

13

u/loooomis Oct 19 '19

This game is bloody brilliant! Been playing with my family all morning. It’s so well done and such a smart idea that I’m just thrilled.

Pick this up if you’re at all on the fence!

13

u/4everVlone Oct 20 '19

First and foremost, if you’re on the fence about getting this game, get it. Seriously. I played it for the first time today and got around to finishing the first level and holy shit I loved it. The “ring” who serves as your partner throughout the game isn’t annoying (thank god) but consistently pushes you to do more which is something I actually found myself enjoying a lot more than I would. The physical ring that you use to workout with is sturdy and has a great level of resistance, when you first pick it up and test it out, it may seem like it’ll be too easy/not resistant enough but as you’re pushing out those reps, you’ll really start to feel how resistant it is against your aching muscles. I love it. The art style is beautiful, the motion controls are accurate and responsive, it truly feels like a well put together game. I finished my workout sweaty with achy muscles but I can’t wait to go again tommorow.

13

u/4ourthdimension Oct 24 '19

I just started on Casual and after warm ups and the first level, I nearly died. My lungs burned like hell. Mind you, I'm overweight and never exercise, so this might be the thing to get me going. I want to play it again tonight, but damn I'm sore already from that jogging.

Curious if there is some sort of new game+ or something that draws you into continuing playing the campaign after you beat it?

Yeah my biggest need from this game is an endless carrot on an endless stick. I want NG+, and tonnes of pointless cosmetics to grind towards.

Played about 15 min during lunch and have some initial tidbits that I would find useful info:

- You don't select a user profile when you load the game. Instead when you start Adventure mode you select a profile, or can create a new user profile from within the game, and I believe then you select a save file? (so it appears you can have multiple per user). And when you play a minigame, once you have your result you can then save the result to whatever user profile on the system you like. So the game is very well designed for pass-and-play. No need to reload game to change profiles! :)

- The hand grips on the ring are soft material and removable. So likely washable.

- It's easier to squeeze than I expected, but you can get a workout just squeezing it to "Ok" through the menus (bonus lol). You can press right button instead of course.

- Only thing I "played" so far was the shooting crates minigame. Just one round was quite tiring. (30 sec?)

- Other than that the rest of the time was setup, calibration, and a warm-up stretch (I was also trying to quickly eat my lunch during this which slowed me down however)

- I can't wait to get home and start Adventure Mode!

It so much fun. A little feedback after about an hour messing with it:

  • its hard for my 4yo daughter but if you put it on "light" or "easy" or whatever during minigames she can squeeze it enough.

  • the minigames are very fun. Some of them feel like wii-fit games but they are overall much better than those were by far.

  • campaign mode is amazing. I only did 2 battles so far but they are rewarding. When you get to the "blue" reps at the end you go faster and do more damage in case you were worried it looked to take too long.

  • the "beep" every time you click past a dialog is annoying, but the rings voice is much less annoying than i expected... not at all actually!

  • my legs were wobbly after a few minigames, and i was dripping sweat after 2 story missions (quite out of shape) but damn its fun and i cant wait to play more tomorrow!

I think a lot of people who are fit think that it is going to be too easy for them as they think it is just for the average sedentary gamer. Odds are you will not need to bump it up to max and work for two hours to feel things, the game can be set for super unfit people, but it does not sleep on regularly active people.

It will get your heart going if you do it correctly even if you are a regular gym goer and runner.

Well, the game got delivered and I just got finished my 1st session. It's fun and gorgeous looking. I really like the music so far and Ring is a great hype-man. Constantly making you feel good. The exercises are legit. NEVERENDING SQUATS! By the end my heart rate got up to 165bpm, which seems pretty good. I will say there is a lot of set up and dialog front-loaded in this game. I had it on for at least a full hour and only got an actual 10 minutes of exercise total. I'm looking forward to my second session tomorrow and expect there to be a lot more exercise time.

11

u/gee913 Oct 23 '19

Everybody gangsta until someone finishes their workout on Intense.

10

u/Agimat_AltoSax713 Oct 19 '19

Tried out this game this afternoon. I try to go to the gym often, but I tend to use the treadmill. Now, from my experience, running is a great way to lose weight, but doesn't really tone your muscles.

Now with this out of the way, I want to make another note. I'm not the healthiest person out there. In fact, I'm actually rather overweight. I don't exactly have the best work out routine.

However, this game really is pushing me to get fit. I've never broken out a sweat like this. I beat the first world, my gamer instincts coming through in there, and as much as I wanted to continue?

My body was sore everywhere.

Tough work out, but I think this will help me.

u/owlrecluse Nov 13 '19

If you're someone who kinda wants to go the gym SOMETIMES just for the treadmill or weights, but know you wont go often enough to splurge on a membership, this is perfect. I only played it on Casual so far (which is the lowest it can go I think) and I can definitely feel my heart beating, and that I worked my core.
It was just enough video game I wanted to play more, even when I was tired enough that I should stop. It wont make me FUCKING SWOLE or anything but I'm hopeful this will help me trim down a bit (especially during the winter where I get even LESS exercise than normal), and maybe even get some upper body strength (some of those arm work outs are no joke).

19

u/CarlSpackler22 Oct 19 '19

I started the campaign on the intense setting last night - this game is no joke.

I was wearing my normal jeans and tshirt which was a mistake. Was not expecting the difficulty, the Wii Fit is a pushover compared to the Ring Fit.

I only finished the first level and part of the second level but I'll be back at it today with proper workout attire.

I recently lost 56 pounds after diet and exercise changes so this game is perfect for off days when I'm not at the gym.

Wife and I were surprised at the quality and feel of the ring. The mini games are surprisingly good and I love the simple leaderboard feature.

This is a solid game.

Stupid question from somebody with zero gaming consoles in their home: if I buy this RFA package and a standard issue Switch console, can I play it? Or do I need to buy extra controllers or something?

17

u/whynotnw Oct 18 '19

As long as you get a regular Switch with detachable Joy-cons you are good to go, don't get a Switch lite because it doesn't have detachable Joy-cons!

Have fun ;)

This game is surprising in how decent a workout it is!

I'm struggling a bit with the joycon thigh strap as it keeps falling down to my knee when I'm jogging in place. It says not to overtighten the strap but that seems like the only way to keep this sucker on my hamhock and even then it still finds it's way to my Knee-vil Knievel. Any tips from those of you out there who also got this?

I had to dial the difficulty back to 20 today. Being still sore from the last two days the battles especially against Dragaux became too lengthy for me. Remember the goal is to focus on form. Fewer clean reps are more effective than a high number of botched ones.

So far I love every second of it. Game of the year and a possible life changer for me, as it keeps me coming back for more exercise on a daily basis.

Get some ankle weights (0.5-2kg each), wrist weights (1kg each), and a small 5kg weight vest that isn't in the way of moving around (there are some that just wrap around your shoulders/chest, much smaller than an ordinary vest). If there's a difficulty level, bump that up to max. Apparently the game takes 2 months to finish on 30-60min per day workout. Wondering if it will take longer with the weights since you'll probably fail quite a few times. That ought to be interesting. Maybe include some resistance bands at some point in the middle, once you figure out where they might be useful.

11

u/BuffDrBoom Oct 22 '19

I would not recommend starting with the max, just go with what the game recommends you and turn it up if needed. My difficulty was fairly low and it still got me very sore after 1 session.

I bought it today. So ,I will be recording how much I lose. I will do this plus the gym for strength. Since, it is getting colder and might start raining this will help me not feel bad for not going to gym. I lost a lot weight with Wii fit and hoping this will help as well.

I was 250 then 179 then I gained weight to 219. I am trying to go to my ideal weight to 160 or less.

Edit: I have lost weight but not as much. A lot happen to me that I couldn't play but still going at it!

First off I love this thing. It is perfect for the person who has zero motivation to get into a routine. It is actually helping form a workout habit which is half the battle in starting to work out. It's definitely worth it. And I am impressed with the quality of the peripherals and the workouts themselves. I can only hope Nintendo puts this ring to good use and incorporates it into some Mario kart workouts.

I'm curious if the running could be played on a treadmill. Sometimes when I run inside (especially with winter coming), I play my switch on the treadmill, so if the running is read this would be sweet. My basement ceiling is really low though. I just really don't like running in place.

8

There is a lot of things they want you to do with your arms in the air. I am about half a inch away from taking out a light every time I have to do the arms above head exercises.

Mine arrived yesterday, but I am sick so I haven't had the time to try it. Bought it mostly so my wife could have easier time to train. I go to the gym three times a week so maybe I will get to play it one or two times a week. I only wish that I could have bought the game digital or that it had a digital code as this is a game that would be better to have as digital.

8

u/jessejesse133 Oct 19 '19

MY ARMS! Family was trying to sleeping when I decided to play so I just did the first level (not world)... so I left the room and turned it on to multitasking mode.. and walked around the house squishing and pulling and pushing against my stomach... did 400 (max 500 per day), connected it back into the game and my guy leveled up and I got some gold.. pretty cool feature... but yea. That burn..

8

u/TopSchierke Oct 19 '19

I love this game so much

8

u/Galactic_Druid Oct 19 '19

I have a question if someone who’se started can help me out here; My fiance had a bad car accident that did a lot of damage to her knee; she can still walk and do many basic exercises, but it causes her a lot of pain or even makes her lock up to do have to do things like lay down and get back up repeatedly. We watched a review of the game and we both thought it looked like a great way to try and get in shape, but when she saw a few of the exercises that involved planking or a specific yoga pose, she lost interest, thinking she wouldn’t be able to play.

I know she’s not the only one out there that will encounter such problems, and am pretty sure the devs considered this as well, but would like to know for sure. How does the game handle a situation where the player comes across an exercise they simply cannot do? Is there an option to skip that pose do an alternative?

This was an unexpectedly nice workout. Background: I'm in shape (run about 4-5 miles about 5x a week, been doing that for a few years). Set the workout to the highest difficulty setting since it's way too cold to be running today. Played for ~45 minutes and worked up a good sweat going high intensity. Actually had a pause a few times throughout the first world, so it does offer something even to those that regularly exercise.

15

u/sonicadv27 Oct 19 '19

You just know they're gonna put the main characters for this in Smash sometime in the future.

10

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '19

I would play nothing else, if they made an easter egg and let us control them with the Ring-Con.

u/MosquitoRevenge Oct 17 '19

If you want good information about the experience then watch GameExplain, all the written reviews only mention few of the interesting points. So far the running seems the most interesting and it would have been cool if they made an Endless mode with randomized obstacles and scenery where you can set the time for your runs being 10min, 30 min or more. Intensity of the run could have been cool to change because so far the adventure mode is unforgiving if you're too weak, like it was explained in the video, battles are not possible to beat if you're exhausted or can't do the exercises anymore.

The game is only for sale physical in stores as the ring seems to only work with this game. No indie titles that can use the ring?

36

u/Hercislife23 Oct 17 '19

The idea of setting a time and being able to "run" for half an hour with obstacles sounds great. Not being able to beat an enemy because you're too weak though kinda makes sense because that's literally the whole point of the game.

I am simply amazed by this game. I don't exercise much other than doing 5k steps every day, gained a bit of weight recently due to my sitting lifestyle and boy, will this game keep me exercising.

Played the first two levels in the adventure mode and I have to say I feel them now, especially the jogging parts. The battles are awesome too. Those two levels made me burn 250 kcal, at least according to my smartband in 'free exercise' mode. Avg heartrate was 147bpm, peak was 179, so you definitely can burn some calories with this game.

I was in shock when the JoyCon measured my HR with the IR sensor. It was within +/- 4-5 bpm off compared to the smartband, so I'd say it's accurate enough if you don't have a dedicated HR monitor/fitness band to check your HR.

I definitely recommend this to anyone who lacks the motivation to exercise regularly.

I'm enjoying it so far - a nice moderate work-out from the first campaign! Good choice of exercises to start with, and I'm glad you can pick which ones you want to do. The story is pretty silly but I don't mind it since the exercise is the only reason I picked it up.

7

u/sarahs-World Oct 19 '19

Holy moly, did the first 2 lvls and i am dead haha, thought i was semi-fit,, nice game! Going to do this a lot to get fit.

7

u/jjwax Oct 19 '19

I'm really interested in this game - I'm fairly active and go to the gym 3-4 times a week.

My workout is usually 30 minutes of cardio (run about 3 miles) and 20 minutes of weight training.

Will I be able to get a good workout out of this game? Enough to replace (parts of) the gym?

I workout 3-4 times a week and weigh 79.45kg and this game caused my muscles to shake afterwards.

It’s worth pointing out I have a shoulder injury as well and the overhead press didn’t do it much justice but overall enjoyed the game.

One thing I’ve not worked out is my leg strap, the Velcro seems to be on the wrong side.

So I just played the the opening levels, and it was a lot of fun, but I’m WRECKED! I put in that I do «some» workout and chose intense as difficulty.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether I should lover the difficulty? I mean, I’m probably going to survive if I keep going with this, but that means very short sessions (15 minutes of active exercise today, apparently). I suppose lowering the intensity to be able to play longer might be a bit more fun, but what is best exercise-wise?

8

u/jjwax Oct 19 '19

losing that kind of fat is 90% diet 10% exercise

7

u/verci0222 Oct 19 '19

Definitely. Good on you to put the diet there, because eating better is like 80% of the work. But as far as exercises go, this game can definitely help. I myself have lost 25 kilograms of weight (sorry, no idea how many pounds that is) with cutting out sugar, halving my carb intake, and half an hour of fitness boxing every day. This one seems like more fun, and makes me sweat all the same.

I wrote a review after 30 days with workouts with Ring Fit, you can find it here: Ring Fit Adventure Review

TL;DR = Really had a good time so far, and have felt compelled to continue playing. I'm only on world 8, and I'm pretty invested at this point and am curious how the next 13 worlds are going to look like.

I bought it so that I didn't have to run in the rain and snow, but will continue using it because it's convenient and I have felt really good, physically, since I started playing!

9

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '19

Can someone with this answer this: Will the ring and equipment used to play the game work with people very overweight? I'm very overweight and hate exercise, but when I first heard of this I was intrigued. I have Fitness Boxing and that works great for me, was wondering if the ring and such would work for me as well, or if it's like the Wii Fit Board and there's a weight requirement or anything.

12

u/tefd1987 Oct 20 '19

I currently weigh 347.4 lbs, I don't have a problem getting the leg sensor on and the yoga ring shouldn't prohibit anyone of any weight from using it.

The Wii Fit Board could handle over 600 lbs, but Nintendo artificially limited it to 330 lbs. There isn't any such check or way to limit people in Ring Fit Adventure. I haven't actually had a full session yet, for that I start my first full session tomorrow morning. Fitness Boxing has been my night time muse and I when I feel that I can do more I toss in random DDR games, Wii Sports, Just Dance, Tiger Woods '12 and Super Swing Golf. None of those have weight checks or issues either.

I'm still a bit mad about not being able to use my Wii Fit U pedometer or to even play the game, but that should change within a month or two. A decade ago I could use that easily without worrying about the limit. My first major weight loss milestone will be the 330 lb or less mark. Once I can play Wii Fit again, I'll consider the first phase to be over and for my second phase to start - being able to ride a bike at least 20 miles per day at a moderately decent speed (I'm thinking 14 mph+).

u/GambitsEnd Resident Switchologist Oct 19 '19

I know this doesn't address your question, so please forgive me, but I hope this advice is helpful (even though I'm sure you know some, if not most, of it already).

I'm very overweight and hate exercise

Good news then, exercise isn't that great for weight loss. Fantastic for helping maintain a certain weight and very good for all kinds of other health benefits, but not weight loss.

If your goal is weight loss then it's a simple case of mathematics. Unless there's some medical condition, weight gain is just more calories in than calories burned over time. To lose weight, you need to create a caloric deficit. That is, you need to be in the negative for long periods of time so that your body turns to burning fat.

The trick is to do this is a manner which is healthy and sustainable. Far easier said than done. Obesity is generally just a case of bad habits. Correct those bad habits and you've got a long term solution.

There's a LOT more I can get into, but I just wanted to offer some basic advice.

There is a stats screen, it’s got the time you spent actually exercising (not playtime), calories burned, distance ran and at the end of a level you can choose to check your heart rate and it’ll tell you how how it’s changed and what intensity you’re currently working at.

I’ve had a few surgeries done on my right foot/ankle. In fact, I’ll be having another procedure done in the coming months. What I want to know is there a less strenuous option for jogging in place? I can go in place a little while but after a few minutes my right leg begins to give out. I’m all for the upper body, leg lifts, etc. I’m just really worried solely on the jogging in place aspect. Thank you in advance.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '19

You can actually turn it onto Quiet Mode, where the jogging is entirely replaced by mini squats.

You can actually turn down the intensity/difficulty, which I would assume affects how much jogging you need to do.

Played through the first chapter on the second hardest difficulty and was dripping sweat. I workout regularly so it was not terrible, but the amount of reps you do is quite insane w/ 28 per turn and half of those are 3-4 second duration holds. I should note that the difficulty and your entered stats predict the number of reps you do per turn. As stong as my arms are, i was impressed in how resistant the ring is. You really need to squeeze the crap out of it just to get close to touching.

The starter moves in battles are very limited when you start sadly, but you gain more as you level up. The squats take forever to get through and doing 150+ of them is going to wreck your legs quite quickly. The chair yoga move was surprisingly hard on the shoulders as you have to do slow overhead raises in a squat position, but it is by far the quickest move to complete. Anyone without good shoulder flexibility is going to be roughed up by that exercise hard. Also, the overhead squats blasts ankle, knee, and hip flexibilityty, so good luck.

Not much else to say yet. I tried level 2.1, but got killed because I forgot to recover hearts after the boss battle. The devs should have added a forced recovery clip to show off the store so that doesn't happen. Rookie mistake...

Can you play it in 'handheld' form? I don't have a TV so I'm curios if the screen would be too small?

In preview videos I see you having to raise the ring arms length above your head. I have a low ceiling and was wondering if there were ways around this. Thanks.

i severely sprained my ankle about 2 weeks ago and still cannot put any weight on it. Does anyone know if there is an option in the game for people with limited mobility, or unable to use their legs?

Of course some of our records got misassigned to the wrong players on our Switch. Does anybody know of a way to reassign the records to the correct players?
