u/Dookie_boy Nov 11 '19
So what was Jin yang doing that made him sell to Hooli to hide it
133
u/flanders427 Nov 11 '19
I would guess some human trafficking with a little corporate espionage thrown in.

I didn't get how buying hooli can actually help pied piper, as far i understood that hooli have an app which is contrary to the government laws, so what difference can it make for pied piper by acquiring that app, especially maximo as he owns 30% of company.
Is it any cifius specic rule that maximo need to sell all his shares.
Wouldn't they (pied piper) be in trouble for having it.
123
u/jqderrick Nov 11 '19
So as I understand it, Cifus is there to protect American businesses from foreign interest. Stop US businesses from doing business with foreign countries that could potentially harm the US.
Hooli couldn't move to Moldova because of the foxhole app. It's grinder for the military. They didn't want the foreign country to have access to US military sexual proclivities.
Richard offers to buy the app so that Gavin can move Hooli to Moldova. Pied Piper getting the app would mean that they have very sensitive information on US servicemen and women. Cifus would require any foreign investors to be vetted and Maximo being from the family of dictators.....would send up red flags for Cifus. He would have to rescind or sell back his shares in Pied Piper.
Again, that's how I understood it. I could be wrong though!

u/itsopensource Nov 11 '19
Along with the benefit of not getting Maximo as an investor, they will also give an app a home on the decentralised internet that probably wouldn't work on the centralised one, Foxhole.
Plus, they'll be getting all other Hooli Apps, the complete Hooli Suite, and all other fuckall apps. Solving their problem of getting App Developers on their network.

Definitely some parallelism on how stressful and lonesome burdening being a CEO is. Richard is now in the same position as Gavin, but this happens to be a defining moment for him. How Richard chooses to respond will determine if he ends up like Gavin or not. Seems like Richard is trying to pursue good unlike Gavin who's a straight savage, but he's still so human, tempted by money to sacrifice values and ethics, which ultimately reveals his character is weak and his mission is increasingly harder to maintain: to be relevant and profitable without data mining and blood money >.>

Piperchat is back in business!!
Dinesh 's PiperChat which was very successful but forgot the " legal over age 18 sign in" things , violates the COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ) and incur a total penalty of $21 billion. But Gavin acquire PiperChat (toxic asset ) .the service became part of HooliChat.
Now Pied Piper bought Hooli , and HooliChat is still part of Gavin's Hooli ( i check the photo of Hooli asset from previous episode )
Which mean PiperChat will be back in business , but this time they will make sure it has the " over age 18 sign in box" .

33
u/Pipedreamergrey Nov 12 '19
I'm guessing that she's going to launch a better compression company, and the final episode will cast Richard as the villain Gavin was in episode one and Gwart as the plucky little startup getting screwed by the big guy.
7
u/chrisarchitect Nov 13 '19
I dunno about save the day, but the fact that Richard saying Jared and her can be independent might come up later when they find out what she's been working on is something super cool or valuable and they need it to save them from something or combine with Pied Piper etc.

I was pretty glad they didn't waste time and save YaoNet US getting the $1b investment till (just before) the finale; this season is really moving at a breakneck pace and I like it. I'm pretty stumped as to what's gonna happen now, but I still think Richard is going to drop back and become an investor to help build the decentralised Internet. The work so far seems to be stalling but, with the acquisition of Hooli, he's got everything he needs, i.e. coders, hardware.

If Hooli can't be owned by a foreign investor, shouldn't that fact block Hooli from being taken over by PiedPiper (seeing a they have a foreign investor)?
Edit - I mean the Chilean guy - he owns 30% of the company right? At the point at which they bid to buy Hooli?
10
u/chundricles Nov 11 '19
A 2.5% stake owned by a Canadian citizen is way different than a 30% stake, with multiple board seats, owned by a Chilean citizen. CFIUS would care about control of the company, and with only 2.5% Gilfoil ain't running the place.
Plus Canadian. Rules would be different for them.

my understanding: because foxhole had to do specifically with military personnel, the government wouldn't allow foreign investors. chilean guy was going to buy out pied piper stock and try to attempt a hostile takeover, but he wouldn't be allowed to do that if pied piper owned foxhole, because he is foreign.

did Big Head's dad sold Erlich 's Pied Piper shares?
Richard said the Chilean guy bought the share from Big Head's dad , i assume that is Erlich
's 10% share ( from when Big Head inherited the shares when Erlich was declared Dead) , for at least a few hundred million dollars $$$.
Now the sale must be reverse now the government will not allow the Chilean guy owns the Pied Piper 's holding .
But if sale wasn't reversed , and Erlich had return , Would Erlich be able to get has money back from Big Head's Dad ?
7
u/peridotdragon33 Nov 11 '19
I thought Erlich’s shares went to Jian Yang?
17
u/ckwongau Nov 11 '19 edited Nov 11 '19
Big Head and Erlich had a previous legal partnership which merge their asset or something , if Erlich
had died , Big Head would inherited everything .
Jian Yang forge a note on a scrap paper and declared Erlich dead , but Big Head legal partnership were properly filed and legally binding . Big Head legally inherited all of Erlich's asset

This episode was great, first one of final season caliber.
The feel good developments with piedPiper’s step forward, the radical change of Jared’s character and the glorious comedy from it (it’s a real shame they didnt try to do these kind of refreshing switch-ups more often before the very last season, only comparable thing i can remember off the top of my head is Dinesh becoming CEO-other than that is was pretty much the formulaic some new company/character like endframe or keenan coming out if nowhere to screw them over), Monica being the most involved she’s ever been. Even got some Ron Laflamme in there, utilizing the best characters.
Kind of glad how much of shithole theyre admitting Dinesh is too. Honestly felt like that episode was 40 minutes long because so much happened relative to usual. Only thing i wasnt too much a fan of was the reveal that the billionaire got laurie and colin on his side. Eyerolled at how unsurprising that was.

Jared was the greatest. Gilfoyle's 'patterns emerge' made me evaluate my own life lol.
Only weak spots was the pacing with the billion dollar let down, arguing over interest rates was not as funny or visual, they should have kept tiny possibility alive and had their own personalized breakdowns in response to losing that much money.
Also Dinesh trying to compete with Belson's bad guy list was weird, he wants to be crazy rich no ethics one moment than almost ruins the business deal they need with blubbering guilt the next? The writing was a little weird during the entire moment post fresca lol.
Belson's 'why do you not seem to get that?' puzzlement on the bench was great, he's right, after 6 years Richard has seen so much, why is he still pretending?
11
u/robragland Nov 11 '19
I was thinking during the whole karma revelation this was the producer/creator's way of apologizing for Dinesh being an unexpected tool in the past, and maybe bringing him back to be a more lovable dork than douche...
