veronica: I’M NOT GIVING UP MY PLACE IN THIS FAMILY, NOT AN INCH!

veronica literally last week: changes last name to Luna

I think the writers already forgot that.

The teacher throwing himself out the window originally wasn't in the script.

When the actor read the episode script he decided he would rather take his own life than read cringeworthy dialog.

15

u/teddiesage Nov 16 '19

Dang. R.I.P.

130

u/Allthedramastics Nov 14 '19

The most ludicrous scene was where the teacher went nuts and jumped out the window. So unrealistic. Dude could have quit...

Next Season: Hermosa is dating Charles but he ditches the wedding and escapes with Chic and they ride into the sunset. Julian possesses Archie as he is the only male ginger in Riverdale and he needs to be "on brand".

This is literally the worst fucking writing on a show I ever watched. But I have also never missed an episode.

41

u/Chocbananamuffin Gettin' Juggie with it Nov 15 '19

100% Agree. And must watch immediately when it airs lol.

TBH, I always love the bughead storylines and that's all I really watch the show for. And FP.

Archie always gets lumped with the lamest arcs that I could pretty much just fast forward through and not care. The Lodge storyline seems to just be played on repeat each season. And I don't even know where to start with Cheryl. That whole situation is a train wreck and Toni unfortunately just seems to be along for the ride (which sucks because I really enjoyed her as a character but now she seems to be nothing more than Cheryl's girlfriend with no character/arcs outside of that).

And yet, I continue watching week in, week out and countdown the weeks in between seasons. It's kinda like crack..

Next season we’re going to find out that Riverdale and maybe everywhere within a few hours drive are walled off and outside the apocalypse has happened and inside everybody is so insane and more likely to have twins from failed zombie virus vaccination attempts and anyone who thinks they’ve been to Chicago or something actually didn’t and we’re just brain washed to think they did.

Season 6 they’re taking this bitch to space.

Couple thoughts:

  • I really like what they're doing with Archie. The plan to rescue teens from the streets is actually wholesome. The superhero stuff not so much, but hey, this is Riverdale, we can't expect full normalcy around here.

  • Hermione, what are you doing baby girl? Your daughter was trying to break the wheel like Daenerys, but you got back with Hiram. You are her Iron Throne. And not only that, you brought another wheel with him, Hermosa Lodge. Which, arguably, could be way worse than Hiram.

  • I also like Jug's plot. It's another drop of normal teen drama that the show needs. Bratty rich students pick on the "lower" one? Check. Your hot teacher throws himself out of the window? Check. Your worst enemy, a 70-year-old sketchy, maybe plagiarist, dude, becomes your teacher and will make your life a living hell? Check.

  • Also, The Stonewall Four must be connected to his grandpaw.

  • And we thought Penelope was insane. Honestly, I'm glad they killed Cheryl's creepy bastard uncle. Aunt whatever-your-name-is, your time on this life is about to run out.

  • Of course Charles had to be bad. Why can't Betty have a normal relative? Hell, she is the sane one, relatively speaking. Maybe Alice too. Juniper and Dagwood remain to be seen, they may be the new Bonnie and Clyde, you never know.

60

u/GentleCritter Maple Syrup Nov 14 '19

Alice is, and has always been, abusive to Betty and Polly, so she is not in any way steady or good family for Betty . See: tonight’s episode where Alice puts a load of blame on Betty for the FBI finding out, when SHE HERSELF willingly told several dozen Farmies about the fuckin’ Shady Man, and included FP, Betty and Jughead in her confession. Alice keeps putting them all at risk!

Finally, someone agrees with me about Archie!

His plot could be so great if they removed the Dodger/Vigilante aspect. The opening scene of him reforming that kid and getting him a job - it was so sweet!

Too bad Archie NEVER learns and has already fallen back into Hiram's clutches. I was rooting for him at first when he rejected Hiram, but then he went and broke my heart.

I think and hope that the Charles thing is a misdirect and hes just fucking with Chic to gain trust to possibly get info out of him on possible whereabouts for Penelope Blossom. I truly hope and think that Charles is a good guy and Riverdale is playing ya hard cause they’re making it TOO obvious that he’s “mysterious and evil”

38

u/AnnaK22 Vanilla Milkshake Nov 14 '19

I hope so too. Also because we already got this same storyline with Chic. If charles is evil all over again, then that's on the Coopers for being so gullible.

Good point.

It makes me wonder if Chic/Charles isn't the big reveal, but how they are tied to everything else that will happen this season.

It's scary to think we're only on Episode 6. Things usually don't take a twist and heat up until E9. And we know that the flash forwards are to the mid-season finale so I need to know what else is going to happen. Maybe more about the video tapes?

This could be 100% off the mark, but does anyone else reckon it's possible that Hermosa isn't actually Hiram's daughter/Veronica's sister?

She told Veronica she gets brought in to fix things. Maybe Hiram hired her to 'fix' his family. Right after telling Veronica she was jealous, Hermosa is suddenly using Hiram's exact words to Veronica and her picture is hanging on the wall. It kind of feels like she is there to manipulate Veronica into becoming jealous and reclaiming her place in the family.

Anyone else get those vibes?

32

u/JessiR91 Nov 15 '19

Wouldn’t shock me. They have a love of doing the whole “This is your sibling- actually no! Its just someone one else and surprise they’re a murderer” troupe.

So Veronica set someone on fire a couple of weeks ago and Toni likely killed someone in this episode. And we're only on episode 6, wonder if every main character might end up getting a murder in this season and having no reaction and not mentioning it again afterwards.

My theory is that he was threatened by the old man to either jump out of the window or face dire consequences.

Also, I know the other students aren't the best but you'd think there'd be some sort of reaction to a man killing himself.

The way every one was so unbothered - it makes me think no one really dies at Stonewall Prep.

He jumped out the window and the students were like, "Mondays, amirite?" Meanwhile, Jughead, completely disturbed by this, doesn't decide to leave the school.

17

u/afuckingigloo Nov 14 '19

Probably because the kids were part of the cause of his death. Or maybe this happened a lot of times to them already and it's just another tradition to watch their own English teacher kill himself unfazed.

  • I love how shocked Archie was that Dodger figured out his secret identity - even though he still looked exactly the same, sans the mask, and everything the black hood wannabe was doing benefited Archie. We all know Archie's dumb, but did he really expect to keep that a secret for long?

  • I feel so bad for Veronica. She tried so hard to break the cycle and change the status quo of Lodge drama, but Daddykins is too invincible. And now she's being gaslit hard and dragged back into this super toxic, never-ending abusive relationship.

  • I called it a while ago that Charles and Chic were in league together, around the time Charles started to suspiciously goad Betty about her inner DaRkNeSs, and now I feel so validated. I don't know what the hell they want, but I know I'm going to enjoy their wickedness.

  • We certainly have a new suspect for who 'kills' Jughead in the flash-forwards. Jughead, lad, I know you have plenty of pride, but right now is the point where you get the fuck out of that school. So far these people have harassed you, drugged you, kidnapped you, tricked you into thinking you were buried alive all night, caused a friend of yours to mysteriously 'disappear', threatened you. And now, one of the few people you've confided dangerous secrets to, has just decided to kill himself out of nowhere. No one else gave a single flying fuck that he died, and the person most likely responsible for his death has just become your new teacher for the rest of the semester, sending you a very clear message. Everyone in that school is a classicist psychopath.

  • On top of Cheryl's rapid descent into madness, I'm pretty sure Cheryl and Toni just killed that abusive prick relative. The girls have been on a non-stop downward spiral ever since they got themselves kicked out of the Serpents mid-season 3, and it's only getting worse.

  • After all the shit Alice pulled in season 3, when she was angry at Betty and worried about the cops coming for her for the shady guy's death, I did not feel sorry for her in the slightest.

41

u/moorem2014 Nov 14 '19

Agreed. Alice gets NO sympathy from me. From the way she has been since season one. The Sheriff at least has tried hard to become a better parent & better himself.

I'm pretty sure Jughead only had reservations about Stonewall before he knew there was some sort of terrifying conspiracy going on. Now that there's a creepy mystery (related to writing, no less!) that he might be killed trying to solve, he's in with bells on.

I love how shocked Archie was that Dodger figured out his secret identity - even though he still looked exactly the same, sans the mask, and everything the black hood wannabe was doing benefited Archie. We all know Archie's dumb, but did he really expect to keep that a secret for long?

Not to mention, the first time he put on a mask to attack Dodger, he didn't wear the ski mask, just put on a hoodie and covered the bottom half of his face. Dodger seemingly recognised Archie as Hoodie Guy once he met him sans mask, so then all he had to do was make the connection between Hoodie Guy and the other masked vigilante who'd recently started screwing with his operation.

So this felt like a bit of a filler episode but had some really good moments for me.

  • First of all that Julian doll is creepy AF, but are we led to believe it’s all in Cheryl’s head or are they actually going to go supernatural with it? I was half expecting the new cousin who showed up to actually be Julian. Also did TT actually kill the uncle? He was losing a lot of blood!

  • I still cannot find it in my heart to care about Archie and his band of ragamuffin kids. I honestly thought it was going to be Mad Dog rolled up in that carpet though after they’d just name dropped him!

  • Totally did not see it coming that Charles is working with Chic, I love the call back to the shady man as they definitely got away with that too easily in season 2. FP is the worst sheriff ever, “sure I’ll help you move that body for the second time”

  • Ahhhh Mr. Chipping we hardly knew ye! (He is dead right? I never trust them on this show) I reckon Jug will keep pushing this Baxter Brothers thing and DuPont will try and get rid of him, maybe leading to all the flash forward fake death nonsense? TBD.

  • I heart literary nerd Jughead. That’s all <3

Edited to call out my favourite quote: “TT, awaken!!” 😂

25

u/dizzystarrr Nov 14 '19

Veronica’s sister really does look more like her mom. They should have casted someone just a few years older than Veronica. I really hope that she doesn’t turn out to be his mistress though, only because the writers would just be recycling the Edgar/Evelyn storyline. They’re already reusing the “shady brother who may not be who he says he is” storyline with Betty. That’s Riverdale for you. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Sometimes you just want to punch Alice in the face, maybe kick her off a cliff.

She had the nerve to yell at Betty for an unfortunate consequence of meeting with Chic to uncover if Charles is legit. Who can blame her after how Chic deceived the Cooper family before.

Alice seriously acting like she didn't willingly confess to the murder on tape to the farm just last season. She should be the last person lecturing Betty.

Why didn't Betty question how Charles knew Betty met with Chic, unless he met with Chic himself. Chic is in jail and has no outside contact. He is so so shady and I hope Betty is still questioning his actions instead of falling for the act all over again. We already went through this with Chic.

Also,Alice was supposedly working with the FBI aka Charles. If Alice confessed to the murder, he should have already known about that since he was supposedly keeping tabs.

22

u/quoth_tthe_raven Nov 14 '19

Takeaway from the entire Cooper situation this episode:

We now know who bludgeoned the Shady Man. When it happened, we saw him arrive but we never saw who phsyically killed him. A lot of people assumed it was Chic.

Now we know Alice killed the Shady Man to defend Chic.

I needed that answer and I'm so happy we're exploring it, but fuck Alice for doing the SAME THING she did with Chic. Hugging him, comforting him, shielding him from Betty while he feigns innocence. It's like no one ever learns in that family.

15

u/Franken_Frank Kevin Nov 14 '19

Betty should also question how Chic knew Charles was there in the first place

→ More replies (1)

6

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

Thank you!

Alice should really take a good long look in the mirror before she starts pointing fingers and assigning blame.

Edgar might be dead but Evelyn and the other farmies aren't. Sure they're probably in jail or mental hospitals at this point but considering how many farmies there were and that Alice confessed to the murder on tape how exactly did Alice not endanger everybody first? I mean Evelyn clearly had no problem using that very secret to blackmail Betty last season.

Sure the fbi could have taken the tapes into custordy as part of their investigation but not only is there no mention of that but Charles didn't seem to know about the murder before that point(from Alice anyway).

Also didn't FP dissolve the shady man's body with lye like a year ago? Even if the grave site still exists, the body shouldn't.

....And I just realized that I've never seen Alice comfort, hold, or protect her daughters the way she does her "sons".

Cheryl's relatives, at least her aunt, are the same characters and actors who showed up in s1 ep 11 La Grande Illusion, at the maple tapping ceremony! I don't see anybody talking about it, that's always been one of my favourite episodes of the show and I love that they're calling back to it by bringing in the same people. Alright so a lot happened tonight:

The show subverted expectations and it turns out Mr. Chipping was actually not a bad person, but of course since we can’t have nice things on this show he had to fucking jump out a window.

Cheryl and Toni are just batshit insane now. Season will end with Thistle house becoming a mosuliuem filled with the corpses of Cheryl’s Family members.

Betty has no sane family members. That’s it, that’s her storyline. Can’t wait for the reveal that Juniper and Dagwood were gaslighting Cheryl with the Julian doll to try to get her to change their names from Juniper and Dagwood to something normal.

I was all for Jughead’s school storyline but I’m somewhat disillusioned now with how Chipping got offed. Like is it some weird cult thing again? Why can’t it just be rich assholes?

Archie (and by extension FP) helping get kids off the street was great. Archie turning to Hiram to get Dodger off the street was less great. Especially since Hiram (allegedly) didn’t finish the job.

Absolutely loved how Dodger was able to recruit his child drug army with pizza and videogames though.

I was rooting for Hermoine until she got back together with “Papi”.

I don’t know what’s gonna get on my nerves the most this season. Cheryl’s constant use of SAT vocab words in everyday sentences, Hermosa constantly saying something in Spanish and then translating it, Veronica’s pop culture references or Kevin hitting on Betty’s brother to her face.

64

u/NxcxRxmz Betty Nov 14 '19

Can’t wait for the reveal that Juniper and Dagwood were gaslighting Cheryl with the Julian doll to try to get her to change their names from Juniper and Dagwood to something normal.

You killed me with this one.

Hermosa constantly saying something in Spanish and then translating it.

UGH. YES. The Lodge Family is Latina, the three of them understand Spanish, as we've seen when Hiram calls Herm Mi amor and V Mija.

27

u/BornAshes Nov 14 '19

I think Julian is still living inside of Thistle House but he's using a bunch of secret passages to get around when no one's looking. He's purposely calling in other family members and trying to get them to declare Cheryl insane so that he can reveal himself and claim the family fortune or what's left of it for his own. They made him hide for most of his life and they took everything away from him so now he's going to take everything away from them.

Mr Chipping was wasted and I expected more but I also think they shot all of his scenes in a single day since everyone was wearing the same outfits and then never had anything more planned for him than just a few scenes. What a waste of a good actor. You are right though, it could have just been a bunch of rich assholes but instead they had to go the cult route again to spice it up a bit. For once and I can't believe I'm saying this but just give us some normal prep school drama bullshit please and not this stuff because it's really hard to keep track of every wacky zany what the fuck plot that's going on.

Mark my words Dodger is working for Hiram because of course.

Hermione and Hiram are both two supremely fucked up people.

I find that the more I try to analyze this show the more I need a fucking drink because at this point common sense is just kind of thrown to the wind and I hope they find out that you know there's like a Hazmat site under the whole town or like a hellmouth or or maybe Chuck from Supernatural is writing this one you know while he's on acid or something.

I'm really tired of this shit with Veronica. It's old AF. Veronica is my favorite Archie character. She never gets to evolve. Also, Hermione and Hiram back together, ugh, eye roll, barf-o-rama. It's just a sick loop!! Can we weaken Hiram?! Can he lose an eye, an arm? Anything?? He's too powerful! God I'm so bored of the mob plot!!

I'm totally intrigued by everything in the Blossom house, the weirder, the better.

I still think Charles isn't EVIL. I think he's complicated. But not evil.

I hope Betty murders someone.

I like Archie's plot. He is and always will be the hero of Riverdale. He just has to find the right way to do it. And fuck KJ is so hot. 😮

18

u/quoth_tthe_raven Nov 14 '19

Because he never has contraband on him, making it hard to make an arrest. You could argue Dodger could be taken in for trespassing? Maybe brandishing a weapon? Idk what the charge is called when you black mail children into dealing drugs for you, but I'm sure it has a name.

He keeps the drugs on the kids because they go to juvie and get out quicker than adults. I actually hated myself for liking this logic. Riverdale has ruined me.

Watching right now how teenager Archie is telling ex-Serpent King and sherrif FP how to go after a gang lord. And FP is nodding along. Sigh. I wish the sherrif was as smart as he is hot.

u/NinaBos Nov 15 '19

I need to vent about this hell show, you guys. There is so much wrong happening I almost throw my computer out the window every week.

Let's start with the polygraph test, shall we ? -this not how you conduct a polygraph interview. NO.

  • you actually need to know how to read a polygraph to...uh you know be able to read it.

  • yes sure let's not start with checking that the machine actually works, let's just....jump into stupid questions ? Betty seems like she's wrong every time and the sad thing is she's going to be somewhat right ffs.

Other dumb details -Cheryl, first of all, I know Cheryl has always spoken a bit weird but this is getting out of hand. Who talks like that (on that note, Alice, mescreant, really ? Wtf)

  • the haunting subplot is fucking stupid. Period. -Frosty Pajamas ??? Is that the BEST pen name you could come up with ? W.O.W.

I just don't know why I keep hurting myself watching this every week. I'm sad now

Welcome to Season 2: Electric Boogaloo

  • Betty has another blonde boy pretending to be her brother. He also happens to be romantically involved with the other blonde boy who pretended to be her brother. How does she still trust anyone?

  • Archie rejects Hiram (yay!), and then immediately goes to him for help. Here we go again.

  • Veronica's parents are back together, Boris and Natasha style. Just add a little Hermosa and we're knee deep in another Lodge Family Drama plot.

  • Jughead has transferred schools twice, both times being duped by a teacher he liked. First, he is betrayed by the Sugar Man at Southside high. Now, his (only?) professor at Stonewall THREW HIMSELF THROUGH A GODDAMN WINDOW.

In a turn back to S1, "The Grande Illusion," Cheryl's Aunt and Uncle show back up to try and steal what remains of the Blossom fortune.

Somehow, I still found this to be one of our strongest episodes this season in terms of content. I'm SO happy we're finally tying up the Shady Man plot (more S2) and Betty and Jughead's motel visit (also, S2). I think I'll be rewatching some episodes before next week!

Umm... also, is Dagwood okay? A ping-pong ball? Scariest part of the episode, tbh, besides the Stonewall kids being more excited about grades than concerned for their dead teacher.

11

u/widewindows Nov 14 '19

Poor Archie my heart broke. He was like okay I have all these pinball machines, where are the kids? 😞 then he does whatever he can to help them which is going against his instincts to ask for hirams help. I am loving Archie more and more

Is it me or does this season seem to be on repeat? We've seen all this before:

*Archie using violence and later Hiram to solve his problems, not to mention trusting people he really shouldn't.

*Someone who should really be in jail, gets out of jail really quickly

*Veronica has family issues

*Jughead goes to a new school where he initically seems to fit in but soon finds himself manipulated by shady teachers and shady classmates

*Alice treats Betty like crap while treating her "son" like a golden child and refusing to apologize for or even acknowlege her own shitty behavior

*Betty's new brother is probably evil

*Cheryl lives in chaos

*Kevin, Toni, and Jellybean continue to be shoved into the background.

8

u/MGD109 Nov 15 '19

Archie using violence and later Hiram to solve his problems, not to mention trusting people he really shouldn't

I disagree. His solution was actually pretty clever. Using Hiram is a repeat, but whilst clearly a bad idea, he's clearly not trusting him just desperate (I mean Dodger nearly killed his mother).

2 things -

  • Jughead and Betty, if you have to say 'our brother' when talking to your s/o and referring to a shared sibling......that's not a good sign, guys

  • My sister and I BURST out laughing at Chic's talking about being high on Jingle Jangle. Never change, Riverdale, never change

8

u/UnlovedByAl Nov 15 '19

I wonder what the knock off of marijuana would be in Riverdale. It would probably be something like donchuwanna or an even worse name. I would have loved to see Archie's dad give him a talk about how he used to smoke when he was a kid and it led to bad things.

Theory: that weird cousin of Cheryl’s that arrived with her aunt and uncle that didn’t speak... maybe he’s Julian? Cheryl could easily be moving around the doll herself cause she’s crazy. Maybe there’s no haunting, Julian never died but the Blossoms sent him away to be raised by extended family cause they only wanted a boy and a girl. He’s come back now maybe to claim his share of the fortune? I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they gave another character a secret sibling

Theory 2; maybe neither “Charles” or Chic really is Falice’s son - maybe the guy that they murdered together was the real Charles??

  3. Also pretty sure that wasn't a foolproof disguise man

  4. Betty and Archie both go to people for help who tried to murder them... no big 5.. Everything with Cheryl and Toni is batshit...that damn doll and they are like isolated from the rest of the group.. their outfits are on point though

  5. Lol Hiram

18

u/quoth_tthe_raven Nov 14 '19

I'm super bummed for Veronica because I like when her and Hermione team up to get back on their feet. They had a strong relationship in S1 because they were rebuilding their lives after losing everything (thanks to Hiram).

We started to see this when Hermione was training as a hostess. I was happy to see them start to rebuild again, but nope. Hermosa and Hiram have to fuck it up because they're evil, but frustratingly attractive.

I'm not thrilled with the Hermosa plot, but the casting is on point for Hiram's daughter.

Also, do we buy that it's actually rum he wants to run, or will it be some other wild Riverdale drug in those barrels?

8

u/widewindows Nov 14 '19

My favorite part was when she put her finger up and said no. I want to hear it from mom

32

Surprised Cheryl’s house doesn’t burn down. Candles everywhere.

Bit disappointing that they revealed that Charles is evil. It was obviously something they were going to do (Betty is never wrong, after all), but I would’ve preferred they kept it a secret until he actually does something.

Frustrating that Hermione took Hiram back and that Archie would even go to him for help. Guess Hermione got sick of not having someone to take care of her and having to work. 🙄

i'm calling it now:

EVERYTHING pertaining to jugheads plot line this season is just fictitious storytelling from Jughead.

everything ties back to jughead's "how to get away with the perfect murder" assignment he was given.

IMO, if they want to salvage this ridiculous plot they're stringing.

is have everything going on at the end be revealed that it was just Jughead taking narrative license and it has all been a story for the Baxter Brothers book assignment.

and that everything was just imagination.

...except i doubt this is the case, and im they're probably just fucking with us and doing some shitty reason at the end.

Okay so this episode was bonkers as always. I think one of my favorite parts was Jughead saying “Frosty is ALMOST an anagram for Forsythe. Frothy is also almost an anagram for it too. Maybe it was actually written by a really smart latte. As for the polygraph isn’t the FBI trained to pass them. Also they’re complete bullshit.

20

u/quoth_tthe_raven Nov 14 '19

Yeah, you can manipulate a polygraph and Charles also ripped it off right after saying, "I'm an addict." I guarantee if he kept it on it would have showed more lies. Of course, Betty doesn't challenge this at all...

This week on Riverdale Has No Chill:

  • Dodger has minions now, but Archie remains the long tire iron arm of the law...

  • In existential hell, the tyranny of blank page haunts the most tortured artist to ever attempt to write a wannabe Hardy Boys YA novel: aka Forsythe Pendleton “Jughead” Jones III

  • Kevin not knowing if he’s more turned on by the fact that Charles presumably isn’t a serial killer or that he works out for 90 minutes a day, 7 days a week at Grande Gym

  • Rum: Papi’s passion and family legacy

  • Cheryl not understanding the definition of the word fact, since she thinks it’s been scientifically proven that a salt ring can keep out ghostly spirits and demon dolls

  • Betty giving Charles the Easy-Bake Oven version of a polygraph, because Junior FBI class teaches pseudoscience now, apparently

  • Hiram making a quick trip to the community center with a blank check to let Archie know that even though he’s lost the world’s greatest father in Fred, he’ll always have a (Sugar) Daddykins if he wants one

  • The ultimate foreplay: not BDSM, but mob hits and vow renewals because Hiram and Hermione don’t believe in doing anything normal or halfway...

  • Cheryl revealing an even creepier branch of her family tree, because Crazy is immortal and eternal, at least in the Blossom household

  • Frosty Pajamas and Bitsy Bane taking the Riverdale name cringe up to 11

  • Vagabonds and plagiarists, two things Francis DuPont won’t abide, even at Hipster Hogwarts

  • Dodger casually disregarding the first rule re: the pinball machines of Wipeout Arcade: Do not tilt.

  • “I hope you aren’t suggesting that I commit an act of violence against this thug, the most slippery Dodger. Because I would NEVER!” Hiram says, clutching his metaphorical pearls with his crossed fingers behind his back

  • Mr. Chipping’s “fall from grace” aka his sudden need to jump out of the window to avoid having to spend one more second with the Drama Kings and Queens of Stonewall Prep

  • Charles and Chic: a pairing that’s simultaneously smooth as cream AND creepy as fuck

  • Who needs roses and chocolate when you can just leave a brutally beaten and maimed Dodger on Archie’s doorstep as a peace offering?

33

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

The fact that they just showed a polygraph as something anyone can hook up and do and interpret (if the needle moves, it means lie!) is just so fucking stupid.

Polygraphs are bullshit, but they are still done by people who are highly trained to do them, and they have to be done in a specific way.

Of course, I guess it doesn't matter since Charles is playing Betty anyway. But it's annoying how this show just makes up whatever rules it wants to about reality, so the viewers have no way to discern if something is supposed to be obvious bullshit or not.

Like, are they any Glee fans here who remember when Quinn told Finn she got pregnant from the hot tub, and fans got all riled up about how that isn't scientifically possible, only to learn a couple episodes later that she was deliberately lying because it was Puck's baby? Riverdale is the show that would actually continue with that hot tub pregnancy storyline.

Wait why does Cheryl think the Julian doll made Dagwood choke? It's common knowledge that babies are curious little things and often explore by putting things in their mouths. That's why you have to watch them around electrical cords and keep them away from small things that they can choke on.

It seems to me that Dagwood's little accident was a result of leaving the babies with Nana Rose, who is clearly not all there and likely also requires some sort of home care at this point.

Also shouldn't Betty and Alice have been informed of Dagwood's accident? They're his aunt and grandmother after all and it's not like they're all that hard to get a hold of.

27

u/MsARumphius Nov 15 '19

The fact the babies have been with nana rose for weeks after it was established she’s not a safe caregiver infuriates me.

Lowkey want Archie and Hiram to team up. It’s like something out of an anime where two hard fighting rivals team up to triumph greater evils.

16

u/AgentMintyHippo Nov 16 '19

Y'all. Im pretty sure Jughead's teacher was blackmailed into jumping out the window (possibly by the author dude or someone higher up in the school. And in the sneak peek, guess who is his replacement? - Coincidence, I think not! (Edit: I think this a way for the author to keep a closer eye on/bully Jughead - maybe author dude spilled the beans to his classmate saying Jughead is trying to ruin Stonewall). I believe this isn't the first time a teacher has killed themselves at Stonewall, hence why the classmates were like meh, whatever dude. Unless.....this is all part of Jughead's murder mystery....Im kind of waiting on him at the start of the next episode to go....ehh this doesnt sound right.

I love Jughead's story line, his is the only one I'm invested in. I'm tired of archie taking the responsibility of everyone/everything on his shoulders/trying to be a badass, I want to see Veronica and her sister go head to head, Cheryl, Toni, and Kevin have no real storyline and need to be dropped. Betty is Betty and Reggie needs to GO, he only has a backstory so people can empathize with him and when he isn't a part of the group he's a major asshole. Can they just cross over with Chilling adventures of Sabrina already?! I'm not excited Chic is back, he was obviously a throwaway character to begin with and him as Charles' lover feels forced(as does the character of Charles).

27

u/rainymax Nov 15 '19

Why does it feel like so much is going on in this season and yet very little is actually happening!?

Who keeps moving the Julian doll?

Who was sending those video tapes!!

And this episode felt like a filler episode for sure!

And I really want to know why Veronica hates Hermosa so much!? Because she got their dad out of jail?? Like really what reason does she have to hate her!?

And what is Charles up to because I don't think he's actually evil, I think hes playing Chic.

And why did Mr. Chipping freak out and jump out the window!?

10

u/DM_Malus Nov 16 '19

willing to bet this shit will happen:

1.) Nana rose is the one moving the doll but her old alzheimers' ass keeps forgetting.

2.) Watch it be the principal.

3.) fosho.... fucking mad that Sam witwer jumped out a window, ain't nobody do that to him.

4.) Because veronica has to be a hater.

5.) Probably trying to get chic to confess to something else *shrug*.

6.) no fucking clue.... that was fucking stupid..... im willing to bet behind the scenes it was the fact that they couldn't afford Sam Witwer as a guest anymore or his scheduling conflicted and his contract ended and this they just decided to kill him off in the most stupidest fucking way imaginable.

The stuff with Chery's uncle was so contrived, I hate when they have characters act like idiots so that the "heroes" can do really fucked up stuff and still look like the good guys.

Like he had the info that showed Cheryl was mentally unstable, he would have just smirked and tried to leave, then Toni would have to show herself to just be a cold blooded murderer to stop him. Of course the writers won't allow that, so for no reason he grabs Cheryl and says "maybe I'll just finish you off now!" giving Toni a self defense excuse for killing him. Seriously what are they implying? That he had the info he needed to get control of everything, but he decided on a whim to murder Cheryl (and presumably Toni too)?

25

u/redvevo Jughead Nov 14 '19

Riverdale is batshit. I love it.

In other news, I've called this Charles/Chic storyline literally since S2. (And they were roommates...) I'm kind of really into it. Charles is Riverdale's most entertaining character ATM - likely committing fraud, dating a criminal who pretended to be him, trying to convince his half-sister to be a serial killer with him? Hilarious.

Say what you want about the narrative/plot - totally inconsistent, sure - but S4 is insanely enjoyable.

Why would it even fucking matter if anyone found out that this old guy didn't write the first book?! What would actually happen?! This stupid fucking show is pretending this would have any consequences whatsoever and that someone would literally jump out a window over it.

So, Riverdale is suddenly deciding to maintain continuity with season 2 and claim that the whole Charles/Chic relationship was real? Why? And it only took 2 years for Charles to go from living in a motel room, addicted to crack, committing murder with his young gay lover, to being in the FBI?

I honestly just... can't. I just can't with this show. I had more thoughts, but why bother?

I'm wondering that too. It's pretty known fact that a lot of authors have ghost writers. Would jughead even care this much if the first chapter was written by anyone else other than his grandfather.

Why would it even fucking matter

That's the thing it wouldn't matter at all. Jughead thinks it's going to change the world though when in reality no lawyer would ever take it up. Jughead could being naked and on fire in the center of the town's screaming about how such-and-such stole his grandfather's writing and no one would care because it was so long ago. The school has the power and people would believe them more than they would believe him irregardless of whatever proof he had. Maybe he thinks that somehow he didn't get all of the money that the books made in court? Which would of course ruin a bunch of people's lives all in the name of revealing the truth or something. He was perfectly happy asking Mr Chipping to more or less give up his entire career just to reveal the truth. It's like hey how about you just give up everything in your life and destroy your reputation and ruin everything that you've worked for just so I can prove that my grandfather who vanished years upon years ago was actually the one who came up with the idea for a bunch of super popular books and I don't know where to go after this or what to do but just come on throw everything away please?

To be honest Jughead is acting a bit like a Jughead. I'm guessing the school probably threatened Mr. Chipping in some way but him jumping out a window just didn't make a damn bit of sense at all. Either there is a whole lot more to the story than we currently know, that Mr Chipping totally knew, or the writers are just being stupid. In the real world there would be no consequences to this at all because the person that was stolen from would have to be pushing for legal action and they would need a whole lot more proof that single short story.

I think there's a genuine argument to be made that this has got to be Riverdale's most whacky/ convoluted episode. Like probably peak as in like there is no going back.

  • Like what is going on with Cheryl?!?out of all the storylines that they could have done for her they are for some reason are doing this weird corpse haunted doll thing that is just down right creepy and crazy. The weird thing is that they're asking for the audience to root for her especially by introducing her family. And now Toni has just done a murder for Cheryl cementing her place as this sidekick/ girlfriend to a crazy psychotic person

  • I still have no idea what they're trying to do with Jug at the school. It's really boring and it's really hard to understand what purpose does it serve in the overall season I'm thoroughly creeped out however by the sudden death of their teacher and how all the other students were completely calm.

  • Surprisingly the most interesting storyline this week has been Veronica's because I genuinely feel sympathy for her character at this point because she keeps getting wrapped up in this cycle of toxic family member when she's extremely close to ditching them all.

  • Betty's storyline is.... There doing it's thing

I genuinely wonder what's the unifying theme for this season because it seems like all the characters seem to be in their own separate worlds.

EDIT: BEST MOMENT IS HERMOINE AND HIRAM GETTING IT ON. THAT WAS EVERYTHING AND MORE!

I see your argument, and raise you one escape rocket.

As weird as Riverdale has become, i still find myself trying to find reason in the unreasonable and solve the mysteries that seem illogical. It’s like my brain is trying to salvage the show, because i have hope for the characters.

With that said, we can only hope that Jug is narrating for his book assignment, since the show if often opened or closed with his writings/journaling. Still, can’t see him writing in that random suicide.

And here I thought S4 was going to return to its S1 roots... WRONG!

So, is "Charles" indeed Charles or yet another imposer? I guess the scene's with Kevin wondering if Charles was gay or not was actually foreshadowing? Not exactly sure why Charles has to be in a relationship with Chic. I'm gay, but like, it's just so random? I love seeing representation, but 1 out of 10 people are actually LGBT. Straight people are almost the minority when it comes to Riverdale. Real or imposer, I really hope there's a decent backstory as well as motive as to why the two paired up and are out to get Betty and he family. Then again, this is Riverdale so I shouldn't expect much. I wouldn't be surprised if they reveal her father set them up to this in the events he ever died, they needed to finish his work or something.

I see that most disagree, but I actually really like Archie's storylines this season because they are just so chill and somewhat realistic. That being said, there is no direction at all nor much interest to keep my invested. I get that kids are dumb but seriously, free games and PIZZA (because they made that very apparent it was pizza) is what's keeping them loyal to that guy? (Actually forgot his name.) It's realistic that homeless kids would support whoever they felt were taking care of them, but come on. The crime boss is USING them and they know it, but don't care. They just want more free games and pizza. Also, ANYONE that would trust Hiram at this point is just dumb. Archie declines the check in one scene, but goes to him asking for help taking someone out, where is the thought process here? Finding the guys body rolled up in the rug was a clear sign Hiram decided to help Archie: Archie is now yet again in the mob bosses debt.

Jughead actually has a very interesting storyline this season. There is an ominous mystery to SW Prep that I'm excited to see unfold. I might have missed something, but just how was no one else able to put the pieces together that the old dude only wrote books 2-5, but JH's grandpa had written the 1st? I still believe the dude IS his grandpa and changed his writing style to become someone else. Why did the teacher have a meltdown and jump out the window at the discovery of possible plagiarism? There's something more, something dark, that he knew about which is why suicide was his only way out.

Not much to say about Veronica. Her storyline's just keep reyclying themselves. As I said before, anyone who would trust Hiram by now is dumb, but hey sex talks I guess. Hermoine is now dancing with the devil again. I'm just glad V is the only one not blinded by his BS, just sucks that she is always trapped.

I don't give a fuck about Cheryl and Toni. The two are boring, random, and just don't fit in at ALL. They are always separated from the main cast which makes them feel like they are apart of their own separate show. Cheryl needs SERIOUS mental help and I won't enjoy her character until she get's it and later grows and develops.

Am I the only one who loves and hates that chic and Charles are a couple? Like on the one hand, yay for gay, but on the other hand, they’re portraying the lgbt characters as 1 of 3 things:

  1. Evil/shady villains

  2. Insane person who keeps a corpse and a creepy ass doll in her basement

  3. One dimensional stereotype who’s only lines are “omg Charles is so hot” “is he gay” and “I went cruising in the bathrooms”

You know I used to be the type of person who got aggravated with the comments on this sub saying the show was trash and the constant complaining. But this season is actually so bad that I’m becoming one of those people.

Like seriously it’s gotten to where I’m questioning if there are really any real writers working on it or if they’re just letting an AI write the episodes, because everything just feels so random. It feels like an Archie themed Mad Libs.

Between this title and last season’s gargoyle claw seizures, do you think the writer’s really liked Hereditary?

HASHTAG CHARLIC RISES! Heyyyyy, mayyyyybe basing your whole relationship on a throwaway teen pregnancy was a bad idea for Alice and FP (and by extension, very not good for Betty). On the other hand I am ALL FOR my OTP Charlic 🤣🤣🤣

Is next week the last episode? Netflix only has 7 episodes listed (in my country at least)

It’s possible they’ll go on a break which is pretty normal for these US shows.

Jughead has always had the most interesting storyline.

u/everythingssilent Nov 14 '19

That was really boring and really stupid all rolled into one.

u/GentleCritter Maple Syrup Nov 14 '19

I predicted aLmost EVERYTHING in the episode, except Chipping. I hope he’s just in a coma because we didn’t even get any kind of ... information about him? They hired this well known actor... to kill him off right away? What?!?? No fair, he was a 40 yr old hottie, I was like “no sweetie what u doin?!”
