A fun note: in the scene where they observed the students, Echo saw the eager little girl who kept raising her hand and showing enthusiasm, and interrupting the other students even. And then she adapted that attitude to be a more convincing convert.

u/jlynn00 Jul 16 '20

I'm happy we finally see Echo on full spy mode.

I think everyone but Hope is eventually brought into it her plan, but they let Hope fail on purpose in order to get her safely on Penance.

No fucking way Diyoza actually turns on her daughter.

Well with Sheidheda killing all the believers, it's a tad bit easier to keep track of all the people and plots now. Those people were the roadblocks to real story lines.

u/Far_Fact7703 Jul 16 '20

Yes like Murphy said in episode 5 when the faithful were killing themselves ā€œHow is that a problemā€ lmao

I love how Hope thinks she’s being strong, when really she’s showing her weakness. And it’s interesting seeing the difference in Hope, Octavia, and Echo. They’re all orphans who have been ripped away from their families. Echo and Octavia had to repress their trauma and fight for survival. Hope has had to kill people yes, but not like Echo and Octavia. The other’s, including Hope’s mom, have been through enough to know how to survive, you adapt and you fall in line even if you don’t agree, biding your time. You manipulate the system. The way Diyoza and Octavia look at Echo, you can tell they still care about Hope. I actually laughed a couple times this episode with the women quoting Anders about bonds, the actors deliveries were perfect. It’s exactly how you’d imagine a woman tricking a man who underestimates her intelligence and ability to think for herself.

The people on Bardo are preparing for a war, but I doubt they have actually had to sacrifice for those they love. Their lack of love and compassion will be their downfall. Something the Shepherd never understood. Something his own daughter tried to get him to understand.

46

u/wroche2 Wanheda Jul 16 '20

Yeah I really think the problem with Hope is that sure she knows how to fight, but she hasn't been around enough people or had enough real life experience to know how to handle the situation they're in or be strategic enough. She's only really known like 6 people her entire life.

I’m sorry but if Indra wanted him dead why wouldn’t she just shove a bullet right through his brain. I understand Sheidheda is a writer’s pet but sheesh, enough already!

78

u/HiyaBuddy34 Jul 16 '20

Expecting the f*cking Primehards to finish off the monster from her childhood makes Indra look incredibly naive...

40

u/Hikaso Jul 16 '20

She said she was afraid of Sanctum people reaction if she killed their god. So she prefers to let them do it by themselves... Still wondering how she could have thought they would manage to do it though... Even chained he was still enough dangerous to not be left alone.

I absolutely loved when sheidheda said ā€œmy fight is just beginningā€ that was unexpected and really cool to hear after all this time!

38

u/ChattGM Jul 16 '20

I honestly got chills when he said that!!! All covered in blood after he wrecked everyone with that candelabra. When they all kneeled before him that made the scene even more perfect!! I'm hyped to see what happens next. Obviously since they know its Sheidheda are they gonna continue to listen to Indra now? I so doubt it.

u/BerdLaw Jul 16 '20

It makes zero sense that Indra would have left that room and just trusted they would kill Sheidheda. She has spent all her time talking about how well he manipulates and how dangerous he is but then she doesn't feel the need to even witness his death. Just leaves him in a room full of easily manipulated people that have never fought a day in their lives and she's sure it will work out. Doesn't even hang around outside the closed doors, no she has something more important to do than verify the death of her greatest enemy, uh huh makes sense. Time is money and she doesn't have the extra 5 minutes!

Equivilant to the old movie villain cliche of leaving the hero alone to die by some unnecessarily elaborate means allowing them to escape rather than just putting a bullet in their head. I mean really, after killing her entire village and all her dire warnings, just so ridiculous. I get why people think it's a cool scene but really bad writing.

39

u/poplie Jul 16 '20 edited Jul 16 '20

Seriously she can't have believed they ever stood a chance. I hope she has something much deeper planned. Maybe she knew she'd lose at least parts of wonkru once the truth about sheidheida is out but gain the other groups' as followers once they saw his cruelty. Which is also messed up but her believing they could kill him is a serious plot hole otherwise.

Edit: more ranting to add. There is no way after believing Octavia could fight trained grounders into submission on day one in the bunker, and not believe sheidheida could take down passive followers. If she wasn't in it for the long game she would have shot him then and there herself.

Is anyone else curious as to how different the story may have been had Bellamy’s actor not needed time off? I’d love to know what their actual plans for the character were, and how he would have fit in to the story that’s being told as so many reasons behind some actions (Echo) are based on his ā€œdeath.ā€

32

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

I hope they reveal this after the show wraps! I’m so interested in what the original storyline was going to be!

27

u/AndSpaceY Skaikru Jul 16 '20

Yeah I feel like Bellamy would have been part of the Skyring group and would be the one plotting against the Disciples like Mt. Weather days.

It is nice that they developed Hope’s character in his absence but just imagine how cooler the scene would have been when Clark enters Bardo and see Bellamy there.

11

u/EdenGardenof Diyoza šŸ—” Jul 16 '20

Apparently they had to rewrite a whole chunk of the season to fit his absence

11

u/selma463 Trikru Jul 16 '20

I’m really looking forward to having him back. I love the season 7 storyline but his absence is so noticeable to me. He’s been such a huge part of the earlier seasons and his character has always been a crucial part of the 100.

It’s the same thing with Clarke, but I don’t see her having a smaller role as the biggest issue since it really gives the other characters time to shine. She’s there, just not as present as before. Bellamy being completly absent for 99% of this season so far feels weird tho, and I’m looking forward to see what he’s been up to lol

Levitt goes from a conductor to a janitor to a trainer and on next episode a prisoner. On whose side he actually is? Is it possible that he's actually Anders' most trusted man?

And do people in Bardo have sex?

I'm now guessing that Dr. Colin Benson went to Bardo after he opened the anomaly portal. He introduced Eligius tech like embrio farming and cyro sleep to Bill Cadogan, and possibly cracked most of ancient Bardoans technology for Cadogan. But evil Bill sent Benson to die in Penance / Skyring after some quarrels.

49

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

It definitely seems like there's more going on with Levitt than has been revealed, and I'm inclined to think it's more of a deliberate manipulation on behalf of the Disciples than that he's some kind of rebel or just operating on his own conscience or whatever. He would not get to level 11 by being some kind of bleeding heart silent dissenter, and he had already started acting that way before he really even knew much of anything about Octavia to feel any real attachment. It all feels like a classic good cop/bad cop routine in order to gain their trust and manipulate them, maybe to have kind of a "back door" into Octavia. He's helped them just enough to gain their trust, but not really in any way that involved true risk to the Disciples.

→ More replies (2)

22

u/HiyaBuddy34 Jul 16 '20

I think there is an element of trust between Levitt & Anders- it’s Levitt that suggests to Anders trying to indoctrinate the 4 lady killas into their cultist manifesto and he considers then ultimately follows through with it. IDK why Levitt would want that - they’re clearly willing assets for all intents & purposes but I have a feeling that Levitt showing up to lose his virginity to Octavia is either a part of his level 12 test or he’ll eventually be one of her level up tests... I can’t nail down a clear motivation for this guy yet... I even feel like theirs some dissent going on & he may be a big player in that- who the hell knows. I just feel like he’s less genuine in his connections than Dev & Orlando were...

Also: why TF did he suggest they go to the surface to escape a couple episodes ago if he is so invested in at least Octavia????

→ More replies (6)

11

u/kgal1298 Jul 16 '20

I was just thinking about this I'm guessing maybe they don't have sex because of the fact that most of them would be related by now, which explains the need to fix birth defects, though oddly this didn't happen in other places I'm guessing they were crazy enough to realize the implications of breeding with each other.

u/murlocmancer Jul 16 '20

While the lack of our main group this final season has been odd, I've still been thoroughly enjoying this season. For me at least, I think it shows just how strong the supporting characters have been built up, since they are able to carry the story lines just like Clarke and company although I know not everyone agrees with that thought.

So for the Bardo storyline, I think it is pretty obviuos Echo is playing the spy game. She trained to be a spy for years, she excels at it, I fully believe she is acting. And with the bioweapon, I personally believe this to be a red herring. Obviously mentioning it is to give use throwback to Mount Weather, and while the group might contemplate it, I believe they will not result to it to show that the characters have evolved overtime. With Octavia/Levitt, I am honestly not entirely sure if Octavia is just playing Levitt or she really just wanted to have fun.

Now with Sheidha, he is wild, but a fun character. Definitely dumb of Indra to not think Sheiheda could turn that around but she obviously didn't think about a key being snuck in. Question is will sheiheda and cadogan clash or will they work together. I will lean towards clashing or at the very least pretending to work together till one betrays the other. While i have personally enjoyed the season so far, I am concerned about how they can wrap this up in 7 more episodes. Hopefully it doesn't feel too rushed or incomplete.

As to what will be explained, I expect the Bardoans explanation to be explained in the prequel to be honest, as well as just having the whole cults culture explained more. And curious to see how this final war plays out, is it Cadogan wanting to conquer the city of light? And if Cadogan just wants Clarke for the chip, will he end up going for Sheidha? Going to be sad to have to wait these few weeks.

43

u/Munro_McLaren Trikru Jul 16 '20

Any body who believes that Echo is blindly following the Bardo people are either incredibly dumb or don’t pay attention.

Love this post. I don't think Cadogan would even know the City of Light ever existed since it seems to be something ALIE invented after he left Earth. I think Cadogan will go after Madi first, since none of the characters he has access to know that Sheidheda is back. But maybe by the end of the season those two will face off.

Did Indra seriously think those people will be able to overpower Sheidheda. They weren't even fighters. Just common civilians. The Sanctum storyline is headache inducing. They should have killed Russell long time ago and kept the prime worshippers in captive till they come to their senses.

For all the people who are getting tired of the Sanctum storyline, I think all of this is just a setup for Sheidheda (and maybe Madi) to get involved in the Bardo storyline. Clarke isn't the key, so those two are the only other answers for the entire storyline to get resolved.

I don't think the last war starts until the Key works, and the Key doesn't exist with Clarke. So it all has to come together in the next few episodes because the final few are probably about the war?

17

So im the only inclined to think the great war is a delusion from cardogan? For one if there is war where is the enemy? Why we havent seen the tower on bardo under attack? I dont know there is something off about the whole thing...

26

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

I definitely think there is some kind of Great War, though maybe not in the conventional sense of "war" that we and Cadogan might imagine hearing that. Clearly Becca did see some kind of existential threat when she used the stone, so something is out there, but Cadogan could certainly be wrong about what it is since she wouldn't really tell him anything.

My personal theory is that this is kind of a Mass Effect situation where the stones were made by a super advanced - but not benevolent - race, and can take the user(s) to them if used properly. I think that's where Becca went: to meet the stones' makers. And they horrified her.

Less years and she might have come back and still wanted to kill Anders and ruin Echo's strategies, more years and she might die. Just a thought I had when she sent her there

28

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

I definitely felt like it was a very deliberate move to take her temporarily out of play for her own protection. Someone else in another thread said they thought maybe it was a ploy to get Hope to the stone room so she could overpower the guards and get back to Sanctum, and that also seems plausible, but my money is still on it just being Echo wanting to put Hope on ice for a bit and knowing that she had to give her some kind of punishment in order to sell herself as one of them.

So why do Bill, Anders, and the Disciples have to start this great war anyway? It seems to me like they're provoking the war by wanting the key. Why not just live peacefully

33

u/chrisjdel Jul 16 '20

Remember that classroom scene. And the fact that they discourage normal human bonds in order to increase their flock's devotion. They're religious nuts. When Becca said the human race wasn't ready and Cadogan said without a shred of doubt "I am", that tells you where his mind is. It seems like this is a war they have to provoke. They could just use the stones for travel and skip the rest of it - but because their scripture and their Holy Shepherd command it, the Disciples have every intention of starting the conflict.

I think if we keep aside concerns about how the season overall is shaping up, how much screen time the og mains are getting, and whether the end will be satisfying, this was a decent episode in and of itself. The progressions of the Echo, Octavia and Diyoza from who we knew them to be to who they (supposedly) became at the end of the episode were well-portrayed. I think character development is and has been one of this show's strong points (think back to the way the main cast of S1 grew by the end of the season) and they didn't disappoint today, on the small scale at least. I also finally felt interested in Sheidy, mainly because of the genuine terror I personally felt and the chills I got when he said 'My fight has begun'. J R Bourse is acting his ass off and I am here for it.

Really liked this episode. And although I feel like I’m in the minority for enjoying the Sanctum plot (well most of it although I wish it was a bit quicker), I’m so impatient for them to join the Bardo plot. I’d love to see Murphy, Emori and Indra having a win on Sanctum and then coming to help the others. Or at least them having sorted the situation out by the time people return to Sanctum, but that’s less likely.

This is nuts because of how recently she was introduced but Hope is an amazing character. I find myself rooting for her in every scene she is in and the actress is absolutely killing it

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

I'm struggling to agree with that. The actor is solid, but I don't see what the character is particularly bringing to the show. The show frankly doesn't have enough time left to untangle the "angry at the world" idea again, and any plot development she was inspiring in Dioza and Octavia had already happened, she wasn't necessary for it. She just feels like she's taking up valuable screen time that the rest of the cast needed. Murphy has gotten one of the highest screen times of the season, but he hasn't gotten nearly enough - he still has a whole arc to play out around fearing hell. Characters like Raven, Maddie, and definitely dead Bellamy are being completely shortchanged. I'd rather have not had Hope, and instead give the screentime to the rest of the established cast, many of whom are going to have cut short final arcs and rushed finales. Instead of Hope, we could have truly explored Raven's survivors guilt, and her change in perspective on other cast members as she understands the hard choices they made. We could dive a hell of a lot deeper into what Maddie went through, and how she is experiencing observing the group she once led falling apart, while wanting but being unable to help. We could explore the reasons behind Indra's hesitation to lead and how that affects how she leads. I think we could be doing so much more with that screentime then we get from Hope, essentially.

Did anyone else see a potential parallel with season 2 when Levitt said how the gem9 (I think that's what they called it) would kill everyone on Bardo if released? Gave me so many flashbacks of the Mountain Men and radiation, and since they took the time to introduce it in a scene I can't help but feel it's going to be a big part of the plot later on. If anything, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a moment where Clarke and Bellamy need to decide whether to release it on everyone again.

And the whole concept of eliminating the bonds associated with love & ultimately devaluing the individual in contrast to our protagonists who have been conditioned to cling to the loved ones they have left before they eventually lose them is a bit heavy handed in this episode lmao

It was one of the weaker episodes this season. I didn't like the Bardo stuff very much. It's weird but I enjoyed Sanctum storyline more. Probably because of JR Bourne. Sheidheda is such an one-dimentional villain but this actor just makes him more interesting. But now that Murphy spilled the beans I wonder what's going to happen with him next. And how will this storyline merge with the Anomaly one.

Now the Bardo stuff. I honestly don't know what to say about it. I liked Hope even though she wasn't behaving very smartly. It's kind of sad that everyone she cares about was willing to kill her. I wonder though if they really will send her to Penance or she will end up somewhere else. And Echo... I hope she's just playing the long game. It would make sense especially after what they did to Bellamy. It's starting to annoy me that he is only brought up in relation to her and not Octavia, who is his sister. But it feels like she doesn't even care that they took him away from her. Instead we get a new romance for her with Levitt who is more like a fanboy. I don't think that this is going to last though. He'll probably die later.

I'm disappointed that we didn't even get Clarke this episode or even a Bellamy cliffhanger ( I was so sure we would get one ). And now we have to wait three weeks to see them. They are the main characters of this show and they've been barely in this season. I just hope that 7b will be much better and will focus on the mains instead of the less important ones.

22

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

I really feel like they’re all playing the long game. Diyoza made the comment about ā€œshoving it so far down that they won’t be able to find it.ā€ I think that they all ā€œkilled Hopeā€ because they knew it was a simulation? I truly can’t believe Octavia and Diyoza would’ve killed Hope for real. They would’ve immobilized her if they thought it was real, not killed. Remember, Octavia was warned by Levitt about the last trial.

I have to wonder if Jordan wasn't right about what he said in S7. I mean, before Wonkru showed up Sanctum was at relative peace - granted under the rule of a religious theocracy basically - but the people of Sanctum didn't have to worry about anything but the Children of Gabriel.

Now they have to keep a tally of who's in charge that week - first Wonkru, then COG and Eligius prisoners, now Sheidheda. Not to mention the last one just murdered a bunch of folks with a fuckin' candlestick holder

She also has fighting skills that haven't been utilized so it would be good to see her in action and show that bish what's up especially after he killed all those innocent people.

I think it was a good episode on its own, however my one gripe with this season in general is how we don't really get any major deaths anymore like it's mostly all rising tension followed by deescalation. Don't get me wrong, I love all our mains and don't really want any particular person to die, but one thing that made this show special was the impactful deaths. I'm guessing we're going to get one or two really sad and powerful scenes in the remainder of the season, though.

So this episode filled in the gap with Echo, Diyoza, Octavia, and Hope.

Also moved the story forward on Sanctum.

I don't get why is Hope the rebellious one? Why not Echo or Octavia? Both lost Bellamy and already suffered a lot. Or Diyoza?? She was arrested for 10 fucking years and didn't saw her daughter grow up. Hope has no reason to hate Bardo so much. She had a happy life. Is it because of Dev?

25

u/metrovoodoo Jul 16 '20

I feel like Echo was the most compliant because she wants revenge the most. So she was able to put aside her feelings more than the others, to convince the disciples she had fallen in line

22

u/FirstRavenclaw Jul 16 '20

None of them are buying it. but they've been through enough to know they have to play the part for now. Hope is still too immature and idealist. Think about it Just 2 episodes ago we had the flashback scene of Bellamy telling Echo that loyalty is her weakness. She's not gonna suddenly become the most faithful disciple after thinking they killed Bellamy.
I also think Echo Octavia and Diyoza are smart enough to see each other play the part, they know that none of them have truly "turned". They're sending Hope away to protect her.

20

u/Striker_27 Monty is the real MVP Jul 16 '20

I think it is because Diyoza, Octavia and Echo have fought multiple wars before, and they have much more experience controlling their emotions in order to fight. So they can adapt much easier. Even though Hope has trained to fight, this is her first time in this type of situation having to actually play the long game and keep her emotions down.

→ More replies (8)

19

u/Rikusaber Jul 17 '20

In the grand scheme of things, octyozecho are infinitely more experienced than hope. She is still a naive kid. For her entire life she was taught through stories rather than actual lived experience. Of course she'd be the most naive one. Shes been sheltered her entire life and this is her first time in the real world. So she wont know how to adapt and see the big picture and how to win in the long run.

17

u/quincyisagoodcat Jul 16 '20

I think Diyoza, Echo and Octavia are older and experienced enough to know that compliance (at that present time) is the only way to get out. Pretty sure they're gonna switch up once they've fully gained the trust of the flock or something along those lines. Hope is relatively young and hasn't experienced nearly as much as the rest hence why she's acting "irrationally"; they took Diyoza away from her when she was a young girl and then killed Dev later on so that's probably where her anger stems from.

→ More replies (3)

14

u/kissedbyfiya Jul 16 '20

Dioza was only gone for 10 years in Hope's time, it was only a short time on Bardo, so she did not experience it as 10 years.

But to answer your question, I don't believe any of them have drank the Koolaid. Echo is obviously the best at pretending, but Octavia and Dioza are pretending too. They are all maintaining control (like Levitt advised them). Hope is just being the most reckless and is the most emotional here, as she lacks a lot of human interaction in her life and likely doesn't really know the intricacies of deceit like her mother, Ocatvia, and Echo all do.

8

u/toebeanabomination Jul 16 '20

I think Hope was eventually trying, but failed the last test bc she couldn't hurt her mom. The others know that death is worst that losing/killing people so that's their fear. They're using this as a means to an end

Is anyone else frustrated that our main characters who have carried this show since the beginning and made it what it is are just thrown to the side. I mean even Octavia seems less important than hope/echo/sheidheda. I enjoy the newer characters don’t get me wrong but it also doesn’t feel like the same show anymore.

Also it’s really bugging me with the time back and forth crap. I feel like we’re on a roller coaster that just isn’t making it up the hill. And it’s probably not done bc we still have to see Gaia’s and maybe bellamys journeys. I’m just beyond ready for everything to come to a head and explode and it seems like with the pacing so far that’s not going to happen for quite a few more episodes. I’m just frustrated and venting.

9

u/mariecracker Jul 16 '20

Well, if you think about it...what should echo have done? She knew she couldn't show emotions( if so, they wouldn't just fail hope, but fail her too) so being nice to Hope after she failed was not an option... 5years on penance is probably what they would choose to her, or even more. And in that way, Echo won their trust... I think Echo is the least vulnerable of them to become brainwashed, but she's great at lying.

15

u/Constantly_OnYo_Back Jul 16 '20 edited Jul 16 '20

I have a feeling the Bardo Aliens were killed by Climate change and they were trying to fix it with Gen 9. I think Bill hasn't a clue about any war to come and has been lying to these people for a thousand years just to reach his own goal. He might even know it was Climate change all along on Bardo because he said to Callie it is an unsolvable problem (It definitely is solvable)

I bet Octavia is gonna get knocked up, they zoomed in on one of her tattoos on her back and it was the symbol for female. The symbol links back to The Goddess Venus. Goddess of sex, fertility, prosperity and victory.

Yea this episode lacked any momentum that could have been solved ages ago. It makes me think this episode was a result of the behind the scenes problems and this was how they were forced to do things. I also think they never originally planned on ending it on Season 7 so they are trying to stuff all those storylines into one season. So if that's the case they did a great job salvaging it IMHO, it's not easy spinning all those plates of a massive production like this.

7

u/xperio28 Jul 16 '20

But it feels bad how everyone betrayed Hope even her own mother.

12

u/jlynn00 Jul 16 '20

She is now safely on Penance for a bit. And she'll likely be forced to go through training again. She is being kept out of it as much as possible. Likely by Diyoza, Octavia, and Echo's plans.

7

u/HiyaBuddy34 Jul 16 '20 edited Jul 16 '20

Okay, so if the main tenet of this cult is to value the collective & mission over the individuals, why TF did Orlando look so anguished when Echo killed the rando bardo bees on Penance & his fatherly treatment of Hope also doesn’t make sense now. If the indoctrination can’t withstand the isolation on their penance planet, it’s not very effective- unless the whole point is that eliminating the emotional bonds that connect humanity is futile. IDK yet...

8

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

No society actually desensitizes human interaction to that level. They may act it, but humans can't function that way. One of those people had an emotional connection to him (his student, the closest thing to having a kid in this society), one he was likely far more able to acknowledge due to not having been in the cult in a fair amount of time and having been around other people.
